I cried all the way to the Lycan King's castle, paying little notice to the attention I was gathering. It was the first time in years a human would be brought to the Lycan Kings residence and of course, I attracted a lot of curious onlookers. I had just been cruelly separated from my mother. Why did it feel worse than watching her die?
Please heavens, keep her safe. She's all I have left, I prayed, sniffing. We finally arrived at the huge gates leading to the castle and the soldiers stopped walking dropping me to the ground. I let out a yelp, my entire body hurting. Carrying myself to my feet, I watched as the soldiers spoke with the guards and they opened the gates, letting us in. It was my first time seeing anything as grand as this, so I was dumbfounded. Despite the Lycan Kings horrible reputation, the castle was the most beautiful thing I had ever laid my eyes on. A well kept garden adorned the huge land leading the to the doors of the castle, with a splendid water fountain standing right in the middle. Other than the guards who were stationed in their posts, they were very little people moving around. Yet, they still seemed very shocked seeing a human walking into the castle. We finally at the grand stairs and I stared at the huge doors thet had the head of wolves at its doorknob, my heart palpitating in my chest. A soldier glare forced me to move and I climbed up the stairs, letting out a shaky breath as the door was opened for us. Inside the castle was much darker and colder than outside. I shivered, wrapping my hands around myself as my gaze darted around, looking for him. The maids who had been walking about froze when they saw me, their mouth open in shock. Why? Is it because I'm human? Uncomfortable, I dropped my gaze to the ground, squeezing my clothes to my dress. Why did I agree to this? "Has she returned?" A deep voice cut through the silence and I flinched, my fingers growing cold and clammy with sweat. He was here. "Yes, your majesty." One of the soldiers answered, his voice tinged with fear. I bit my lips, willing my body to stop trembling. I didn't hear him approach us, but soon I could feel his presence and his piercing gaze on me and I cowered slightly, my heart racing in my chest. When he didn't say anything, I tried to peek a look at him and stopped in my tracks. Maybe because the first time I saw him was in the dead of the night and I was completely disoriented, because I didn't remember him being so huge and... Intimidating. He looked larger than life, towering above everyone present. Wearing a huge robe that trailed behind him, with his long dark hair falling freely over his shoulders, he was the most handsome yet terrifying man I had ever laid my eyes on. He caught me staring and I immediately averted my gaze, feeling my cheeks burn. He stood before me for a moment and I became tongue tied, cold sweat breaking out of my body. I noticed that the soldiers who were standing next to me were trembling as well and I shivered. Then he walked past me. "Please, your majesty... " One of them began to plead as the sound of steel cutting through the air was heard, followed by a low yet forceful thud. Something tumbled to the ground but I was too afraid to check what it was until something warm spayed on my cheeks. Reaching my fingers to touch it, I realized it was blood and I screamed. Heavens, he's a monster. "Tighten the security around the walls." He instructed in a bored tone. "I don't want this to repeat itself." He added. He then turned to me and I stumbled backwards, the adrenaline pulsing through my veins numbing my senses. Grabbing my chin, he forced me to face him and I squirmed, trying to get away from his grip with zero success. "As for her, have her cleaned and bring her to my chambers" He growled, his yellow eyese boring holes into me. Letting me go, he turned around and left. I watched him go, feeling myself start to hyperventilate. Oh, I'm going to die. He's going to kill me. After the Lycan's Kings order, the maids who has been standing on the sidelines immediately swooped in, taking me and dragging me to one of the empty rooms in the chambers. I looked around in a daze, my heart hammering in my chest and body trembling as they brought it a huge tub, filled it with warm water and set up soap, fragrant oils and several clean towels next to it. When they advanced towards me, attempting to take off my clothes, I wrapped my hands around myself, scrambling away from them. "Don't touch me!" I growled, my voice weaker than I intended it to be. They wore a bewildered expression at first, then ignored and proceeded to get rid of my dress anyway. I was soon standing naked before them and the guided me to the warm bath. "You don't have to bath me, I can do it myself!" I cried out when one picked a sponge and began lathering it up. She just scoffed and proceeded to scrub my back while I watched in horror. All my life, only my mother had bathed me and even she stopped once I was old enough to bathe for myself. So, this made me feel particularly exposed and vulnerable. I sat through their torture, staring at them as they cleaned me till my skin shrunk and my skin turned pink from their rough scrubbing. One of the maids poured a generous amount of fragrant oil into the water, and the scent of jasmine wafted up, filling my senses. But even the pleasant aroma couldn't calm my racing thoughts. They rinsed off the soap off me and helped me out of the water. My hair was combed and styled, fragrant oils applied on my skin and finally, they handed me a silk dress and prompted me to wear it. The dress was smooth and soft against my skin and after the buttons and ropes had been tightened, it sat on me rather comfortably. Despite myself, I checked my appearance in the mirror thet was set up in front of me and a soft gasp escaped my lips. I almost didn't recognize myself. My hair looked longer and smoother than I had ever seen it, my skin resplendent. The dress, though simple was incredibly beautiful. Apart from the wound on my shoulders, I looked so many more prettier than I have ever remembered. Reality came crashing back and I shuddered, realising why this was happening. I was going to the Lycan king. What is he going to do with me!? Turning to the maids who were already cleaning up the place, I mustered up the courage to ask. "The Lycan king... What does he want from me?" I whispered, my gaze darting amongst them. Most of them ignored me, except one who seemed younger than most. I fixed my gaze on her, silently pleading while she hesitated. "We also don't know. This is the first time he would be having someone like you in the castle." She finally said, ignoring the glares from her peers. My heart skipped a beat and then began pounding. That doesn't sound good. "We're all done now. It's time to take you to the king. We must not keep him waiting." Another maid snapped, her voice filled with disdain. I stiffened, sucking in a deep breath and following them. As was walked along the maze like corridors, my thoughts started to spiral. Is he going to hurt me? brutalize me? Kill me? Why did I do this!? We arrived at a seperate wing in the castle and the maids stopped behind me. "Only you will be proceeding from here." The one who had answered my question earlier announced. I snapped my head to look at her, my eyes widening in shock. What the...!? "His chambers is at the end of this hallway. You can't miss it." She added and my mouth fell open, dread pooling at the pit of my stomach. "Remember, don't keep him waiting." The angry one added a stern warning and they all turned around to leave, leaving me standing there, confused. Looking back at their retreating figures, I turned my gaze back to the long hallway and began to walk. As I walked, I noticed that this part of the wings looked like it had any visits in a while. Except for the torches flickering and bringing light, the windows were sealed shut and the air felt stale. I arrived at the end of the hallway and there, a huge door stood, dark and ominous. Swallowing the lump in my throat, I inched my fingers towards, gently rapping against it, my nerves all over the place. "Come in... " A deep voice growled from within and I shivered, goosebumps breaking out of my skin.My trembling hands reached for the doorknob and I pushed it open, walking into the chambers. One step in and I had a chilling realization. If I thought the hallways leading to this place was dark, I was dead wrong. It was pitch black in here. Everything had been shut and the air quality was even worse. How was he living in this place!? I bit back the cough building at the back of my throat, closing the door behind me as the darkness consumed me. My body started shaking, my eyes struggling to adjust to the lack of light. "You summoned me, your majesty." I called out, my voice quieter than I had wanted it to be. But I knew my captor would hear me regardless. He was the Lycan king after all. I stayed pressed against the door, looking around for where he might be with no success. "Your majesty?" I called out again, my voice lower as I dared to take another step forward. Still, nothing. Wasn't he here at all? Already, my heart had begun to race in my chest, my skin clammy with sweat. Th
My heart rattled against my ribcage, my body growing deathly still as he pressed his body harder to mine, and a gasp tore from my lips, followed by a whimper as terror filled me. "I asked you a question... " He growled, his voice filled with so much fury, my bladder threatened to fail me. "Where. Are. You. Going!?" He bit out the words, every syllable filled with rage. "Nowhere, I swear!" My body trembling. "I thought you were asleep so I wanted to leave you alone." I rushed out, but he turned me around, slamming me against the door, my words cut off as pain shot up my spine. His yellow eyes had ringlets of red and horror filled me. He was truly furious. "Did I ask you to leave?" He snarled, his hot breath against my skin, and cold sweat broke out of my skin. I shook my head vehemently, my eyes prickling with tears. "I. Prefer. Words." He grated out, the low voice having a chilling undertone. "No, your majesty! You didn't ask me to leave!! I'm sorry. Please let me go, you're hurti
The air is thick with acrid smoke, choking me with its bitter taste. My eyes burn, the stinging sensation making them water as I struggle to see through the haze. I cover my ears with my hands, curling into myself as ear-piercing screams ring out from every direction. The terrified, horror-filled cries send shivers down my spine, making my body tremble to the bone.Though my sense of smell is weak, the coppery scent of blood still assaults my nose, making my stomach roil with nausea. The smell is overpowering, and I can almost taste the metallic tang on my tongue.Mother told me to hide. Father said not to come out until he called my name. Brothers said, My brothers said that I would be no help and they'll come find me when this is all over. But it's been hours now and nobody is showing up. The air in this tiny hallway is getting hotter by the minute, the smoke growing thicker and more choking. I need to get out before I suffocate."Mom?" I call out, my voice barely above a whisper. T
It had been days since I was thrown out of the Lycan King's chambers, and since then, he had never summoned me again. Nor had I seen him, or anyone else in the castle, for that matter. Helen's words began to ring true - it was indeed hard to catch a glimpse of the Lycan King in the castle. It was even rarer to find anyone talking about the reasons behind his reclusive nature. Every time I raised questions about it, all I would get in return were resentful looks, Helen included. As the Lycan King's slave, I had no real duty or purpose. It seemed like he had even forgotten he brought me here. Still, I followed Helen around whenever she was assigned to a duty and assisted her when she worked. She was still the only one who ever bothered to be nice to me, despite her stance against my kind. The other maids had openly shown their disdain, especially because of the Lycan King's interest in me.Nighttime in the castle was even harder. It was a struggle to sleep as my thoughts were constantly
I could feel their gazes on me, and I squirmed, feeling grossly uncomfortable.Lady Nymeria spat, her voice tinged with disgust. "She is human," she said, as if it was a dirty word. "Is he out of his mind?"Alfred shook his head. "We have no idea, your grace. He hasn't done anything with her since she arrived."I bit back a groan. Can't he just stop speaking?! Lord Mortis's expression turned resolute. "I need to see him," he announced. "Could you please inform him of my presence?" he asked Alfred."Yes, your grace," Alfred answered, starting to leave when Lady Nymeria called him back."Inform him of mine too," she said, her voice tinged with pain and anger.Lord Mortis let out a defeated sigh. "I don't think you're needed, Nymeria."Lady Nymeria's eyes flashed with anger. "I don't care," she snapped. "I'm not leaving him alone. He's suffering, Mortis. Now is not the time to abandon him, letting him to do what he pleases."Lord Mortis rubbed his forehead, looking tired. "Okay, fine. In
A knock came on the door, shattering the blissful silence I had slipped into for a while. The sound echoed through my chambers, and I squeezed my eyes shut, hoping that whoever was behind the door would give up and leave me alone. That did not happen. If anything, the rapping grew louder, more insistent."Your Majesty!" A loud yet familiar voice boomed, and my dormant beast began to prowl inside me, its presence stirring up a mix of emotions I'd rather not face. "It's me, Mortis. I want to see you." He added, his voice firm. I growled, curling myself into a ball on the couch. "Go away..." I muttered, my voice barely audible. Why couldn't everyone just leave me alone?"I am afraid I cannot do that, your majesty," Mortis replied, his voice unwavering. "The issue is of utmost importance, you have to come outside." He stated, and I frowned, my mind foggy. What issue could be so important?"No. Now get out." I snarled, holding my head in my hands. The headache that had been assaulting me
Lord Mortis returned after a while and Lady Nymeria who had been pacing around for a considerable amount of time stopped abruptly, rushing towards him. "How is he? Did he call on me?" She asked hurriedly, her face hopeful as she brought her hands to her lips."Well, he isn't in a great condition but he's going to be fine. As for summoning you, he said he'll call on you when he needs you." Lord Mortis answered. Some of the tension erased from Lady Nymeria as a tiny smile adorned her face. "In that case, I should get ready then." She muttered to herself, turning on her heels and marching down one of the hallways. "Maids, come prepare me to meet the king!" She called out and several other maids who had been standing around promptly followed, leaving me alone with the Lord. I felt his gaze on me and I immediately lowered my head. "You, come here!" Lord Mortis announced, his voice stern. My entire body tensed, but I took in a deep breath and walked forward, keeping my gaze to the groun
The sounds would continue till early evening, where it had come from loud screams to broken groans. The eerie echoes seemed to reverberate through the corridors, making my skin crawl. As shocking and nauseating as that was, what was more surprising was everyone's response to it. The soldiers didn't seem fazed by what was happening, their faces impassive as they stood guard. The maids, on the other hand, were... jealous!? Crazy as it sounds, they were. I must have caught a couple of them wishing it was them instead of the woman in the room with the king. They whispered among themselves, their eyes gleaming with a mixture of envy and admiration.Everyone just went about their normal business while I lingered around, uncomfortable. I tried to make sense of what was happening, but my mind was reeling with questions. Finally, it came to a stop, and a long while later, the door creaked open. Lady Nymeria limped out of the room, her well-styled hair already disheveled and sticking to her s
I trudged back to my room, my feet heavy with the weight of Lord Mortis's revelations. The dimly lit hallway seemed to close in around me, the flickering torches casting eerie shadows on the walls. My mind reeled with the words that had come out of Lord Mortis's mouth, yet I knew he wasn't lying. The signs were there, hidden in plain sight. The Lycan king was cursed, unable to form a mate bond, and if he continued down his destructive path, he would succumb to a fate worse than death: going feral.I felt like I was drowning in a sea of despair, my heart heavy with anguish. "But he knows this, so why is he still doing it?" I had asked Lord Mortis, my eyes stinging with tears. Lord Mortis's expression had turned somber, his gaze growing distant as he replied, "He's grown tired of living. Over two centuries, and ever since he was a little child, not a moment's happiness. Of course, he would seek death."I stifled the sob that tried to escape my mouth with my hands, anguish twisting my in
"What do you know about the Lycan king? Why is he the way that he is?" I cornered Helen in the hallway after I had been released from the kings chambers, barely acknowledging the wounds I had sustained. My arms throbbed with pain, the wounds from Kael's claws still oozing blood. I clenched my teeth, trying to ignore the discomfort. She wore a puzzled expression as she took in my appearance. Her gaze raked over me, her eyes widening as they stopped at my bloodied arms. "What do you mean?.. What the!? You're injured! What happened in his chambers?!" She cried out, alarmed. I growled back, moving even closer, my eyes blazing with intensity. "My wounds don't matter right now," I hissed, my voice low and urgent. Ensuring we were alone, I whispered tightly, my words barely audible. "I asked a question earlier. What do you know about the king? Why is he the way that he is? What is it?"Helen's expression faltered, and she took a step back, her eyes darting around the hallway as if searching
He asked suddenly, his words taking me by surprise. "Don't you hate me?"I stiffened, ice flooding my veins. Fiddling with my fingers, I looked away from him, my heart pounding. Realizing he was expecting an answer, I forced myself to speak. "Well, although my feelings hasn't changed, you're still my master, and I have no choice but to serve you." I muttered but it felt like a lie. He didn't speak for a moment and I was already raring to leave. But I couldn't do that without an order. Finally he let out a groan, his next words leaving me dumbfounded. "Do you want still want to leave?"I stopped, my heart skipping multiple before racing. Stunned, I turned to look at me. Of course, he was staring at me, and those gaze held seriousness. He really meant what he said. "If you don't give me an answer soon, I might be forced to hurt you." He threatened and I snapped out of my daze. "Ye-yes." I stuttered out without thinking. Realizing what I had said, my cheeks grew hot and I swallowed t
Aira I'm in another dream again. This time I'm in a forest, moonlight scattered on the ground through the thick canopy from the trees. I hold my breath, looking around me and freeze when I see the beast lying in front of me, his back covered in arrows and it's magnificent fur marred with blood. A soft gasp escapes my lips at the gory sight, something squeezing my chest tightly. With a bated breath, I inch towards the beast, gently crouching by it's side when I'm close enough. It's breathing is shallow, and it seems unconscious. I reach out to inspect the gaping wound by its side and it's ears flicker, a low groan of pain rumbling in it's throat. But it doesn't open it's eyes. Something warm trickles down my cheeks and when I inspect it, I discover I'm crying. Why do I lose control of my emotions when I'm near this mighty beast? I have no answers to that question but I soon find myself running my fingers through it's fur, in an attempt to soothe it from the pain it's feeling. The u
It didn't seem like I heard him properly so I asked, "What did you just say?"Lord Mortis snarled, his eyes narrowing further and I bit back a whimper, shrinking to myself. "I do not like to repeat myself." He gritted out through clenched teeth. "Alfred, prepare the dishes and make her take it to the king.""What!?" I was panicking now, my eyes darting around wildly. "But, he's going to kill me!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. "You're a slave, are you not?" Lord mortis snapped and I recoiled, tears filling my eyes. "Yes... " I whispered, my voice breaking. "Yes, I am.""So, your life has no meaning here unless you're serving your master. You are taking the food to the king. We're done here." He stated with a note of finality. Alfred glanced at me, beckoning for me to follow him. Giving up at the protest they was stuck in my throat, I let out a pained sob and followed after him. He led me to the palace kitchen and I watched as he instructed the workers to prepare a tray filled w
A powerful roar tore through the castle, shattering the eerie silence that had settled over the halls. The sound was primal, a raw expression of fury and power that sent shivers down my spine. It was followed by the frightened screams of a lady, her shrill voice piercing the air and striking everyone dumb. I froze, my head whipping to the corridor leading to the king's chambers. My heart pounded in my chest, racing with a mix of fear and confusion. Is that the king? Another roar came again, this time more powerful and ferocious than the last one. The sound seemed to shake the very foundations of the castle, causing the walls to tremble and the floor to vibrate beneath my feet. Every person in the hallway stopped, fear and panic radiating in their eyes as they stared at the hallway, paralyzed with terror.Alfred was the first to rush forward, a number of guards at his heels. "Where is Lady Nymeria!?" he asked, his voice firm and commanding. Everyone exchanged furtive glances, indicat
Aira. After my mother was ripped away from me for the second time, I sobbed my heart out till I fell sick. A fever so severe assaulted me, I was unable to get out of bed for a few days and I genuinely thought the worst. Fortunately, Helen looked at me with pity and offered to care for me till I recovered. Even then, going out felt like too much work so I spent most my time indoors. I couldn't bear the curious yet disdainful looks of the workers in the palace as I walked around, since most of them had heard about the incident and my reaction to it. Luckily for me, even the king had stopped stepping out also, retreating into his chambers for a 'self imposed' exile as Helen put it. That filled me with some sort of relief as I had no idea what I would do if I saw him again. The hatred I had felt for him had grown in leaps and bounds since that incident and I wondered what was going through his mind, making me meet my mother only for him to rip her away from me. He must have wanted me t
I was starting to grow restless staying trapped in this castle and it was telling on me. I could no longer plot my escape without the fear of the Lycan king catching me again and severely punishing me for it holding me captive. Apart from that, it seemed like everyone, including the guards were now keeping their eyes on me, making it nearly impossible for me to make another attempt at escaping. My nightmares were now more intense, most of it being with the same beast and it made no sense to me. I was still worried about my mother and I wanted to see her. If only I knew that the worst was yet to come. I was in the maids quarters, washing sheets with Helen when two burly knights matched up to us, their expressions set into a grim line. Rinsing off the soap in my hands, I stood to my feet, wondering what they would be doing here. "You have been summoned by the Lycan king. Do not keep him waiting." One of them growled, his gaze fixed on me. My heart skipped multiple beats, then began to
I strolled through the hidden hallways, my footsteps echoing off the cold stone walls. My hands were clasped behind my back, a habitual gesture that betrayed my introspective mood. As I walked, my thoughts drifted to her - the human who had been trying to escape my castle for what felt like an eternity.'She keeps trying to leave,' I thought to myself, a wry smirk twisting my lips. Every moment she spends here, she keeps trying to escape from this place. The thought made something odd flutter in my chest, a corner of my lips quirking up but not quite forming a smile. It was nice to see she wasn't giving up yet. The fire in her eyes hadn't died yet. It was exactly what I needed.I returned to my room, the heavy wooden door creaking shut behind me. The space was still shrouded in darkness, the only sound being my gentle breathing and the soft whirr of the wind rushing into the barren space. But I didn't need light to see; my eyes could pierce the darkness as if the sun were shining brig
