I should have known something was wrong since the very first day. I should have followed my instincts and persisted until she told me everything.

Even when I noticed she was uncomfortable the whole trip after her encounter with Damon at the party, I should have expected it.

And even the message from my emails sent to me about her secrets seemed suspicious; it kept me in my office for hours, troubled me more than I expected, and I didn’t want it to be true.

"I need a smoke," I uttered to myself as I went by my study balcony to clear my head, lighting up a cigarette not until I noticed two figures that stood in the garden.

It was Brynn and... Thalia? What the fuck was Thalia doing here? Before I could even question why she was in my estate so late, I saw her push Brynn down to the floor and a feral rage rose in me. "What the hell?" I muttered.
