Just one today.
KEENA I rush up the stairs and away from the dungeon. I feel my lycan itching beneath the surface of my skin, begging to be let out for a proper run. Unlike werewolves our lycans aren't a separate creature from ourselves. A werewolf's wolf has its own name and personality, but my lycan is me. A monstrous part of me. She rarely speaks to me in my mind. I usually only feel her emotions and wants and right now she wants to run. No, she needs to run. My clothes are already torn and tattered from training as I run out of the back door of the royal mansion. It has started to snow. Big fluffy snowflakes are falling from the sky all around me. Making a beeline for the trees, I allow my lycan to come forward as I run for the trees. I have been training so often and so hard that I can shift mid stride with little to no effort. Within a few strides I am once again in my lycan form. I think that is the quickest I have ever shifted. I wish Ward had been here to see it. The sno
KEENA Sylvia cracks her knuckles and an evil smirk spreads across her lips as she takes two steps towards me. Suddenly her limbs start to break and shift. She has shifted into a magnificent brown wolf. She growls at me as she takes several steps towards me and I react as quickly as I can. Conjuring the wind, I make the snow swirl in a vortex around her. Her wolf becomes confused and whines loudly. Taking a step through the wind, I can see her wolf looking every direction trying to find a way out of the spinning vortex. From outside of the wind I can hear the other witches begin to chant and I know that I only have moments before they join their magic together to defeat me. I may be strong enough to beat one witch alone but I am not sure about a whole group of them. Sylvia wolf cowers down on her hind legs and tucks her tail between her legs. Suddenly, I see Alpha Francis's lifeless body lying on the ground in front of me and my confidence wavers. The snow that is swirli
WARD I spare one last look at Sheila that is now laying lifeless on the floor of her cell and I run up the stairs. I burst through the door to the basement and run right up to the bedroom that I share with Keena. "Keena," I yell out loudly. There is no response. "Keena," I call out again in desperation. "Where are you?" The sirens around the royal mansion are blaring loudly and my mate isn't where she promised she would be. 'Princess. Where are you?' I call out through the mind link. 'Ward, I took my lycan for a run. I caught a scent. I think that Jarek is-" She is panting heavily through the mind link before it cuts out. 'Keena,' I scream through the link. Panic rises in my chest as I pace the bedroom. 'Princess, please answer me.' Running my fingers through my hair before I raise down the hallway. The King's office door is open but he is also nowhere to be seen. The fighting outside of the mansion is getting louder and I know that I need to get out there an
KEENA My lycan stands on the edge of the front lawn of the royal mansion and it has turned into a full blown battlefield. There isn't an inch of snow that is untouched by blood. I scan the battlefield for my mate. 'Where is Ward,' I mumble to my lycan. Opening the block that I put up in case I got hurt I can feel Ward's pain and suffering through the mate bond. I can feel Ward taking attack after attack. That is when I see it. I see a cluster of rogues on the front porch of the mansion. All of them are snarling and growling at a single lycan. The lycan lifts his head and scans the battle as he takes hit after hit from the rogues. Even from this distance I can see his hazel eyes sparkling in the moonlight. It is Ward. 'Keena, I love you,' his voice is loud in my mind but I can hear the pain in his voice. He is injured. Taking a deep breath I look at the group of rogues that have surrounded my mate. 'I am coming for you,' I tell him before his mind link snaps shut.
KEENA Holding Ward's head in my lap I beg for him to get better. Why didn't my lycan healing work? Perhaps all of my powers are gone now. I can hear the sirens of an ambulance blaring in the distance and I know that they are coming for my mate. Gently I run my fingers through his dark beard and over his soft lips. His eyes flutter open and he tries to smile at me. He mouths the words, "I love you," before his eyes roll back in his head once again. "Save your energy," I beg of him. "You can't leave me." A soft hand rests on my shoulder and I look up to see my mother standing with a shirt in her hand. I look down at my body and realize that I am mostly naked. The remnants of my clothes are nothing but rags hanging off my body. I know that I should be embarrassed but right now I just don't care. All I want is for my mate to be better. Pulling the oversized shirt over my head, I look up at my mother with tears streaming down my cheeks. "Is there anything that you
KEENA Kayla releases me from her hold and uses her fingers to wipe the tears that are streaming down my face. Placing a kiss on my forehead she pulls me in for another hug. "Go to your mate," she whispers next to my ear. "Thank you for being here for me," I tell her. "When all this is over with I want to see your lycan," Kayla says as she holds me at arm's length. I nod my head and get to my feet. Following the doctor back through the double doors, I give Kayla one last look before they close slowly behind me. The doctor moves quickly through the hallways. He takes several turns and I try to memorize the way. But my mind is too preoccupied and it feels as if I am walking through a maze. Finally the doctor stops outside of a room. I try to look inside the door but the curtains around the bed are pulled. Lifting my nose to the air I search for the scent of my mate. I can barely smell the scent of peppermint but it appears to be mixed with other scents. "What yo
KEENA "I am afraid that it isn't just your witch abilities that you have lost," the doctor says with a frown on his face. "I am afraid that you may have lost your lycan abilities as well." Panic fills my chest and it begins to feel like I am unable to breathe. "That can't be possible," I tell the doctor. "I was able to shift after I sent out the pulse." "Did you try to heal your mate when you shifted?" The doctor asks me curiously. I ignore the doctor's question. I know that he already knows the answer. "Are you telling me that my lycan is going to be trapped in the recesses of my mind again?" "It is hard to say," the doctor taps his pen annoyingly on the chart on his nap. "So, once again I am nothing more than a human," tears are streaming down my face. I run my fingers up and down Ward's skin hoping to feel the tingles of the mate bond. The sparks of electricity still erupt under my fingertips and I let out a sigh of relief. "Princess, I am sorry to be the o
KEENA The bed beside me feels cold. I reach out my arms for Ward but there is no one there. My eyes fly open and I look to Ward's side of the bed. It is empty. I had hoped that the night before had been only a bad dream. My whole body is sore, it feels as if I have been in a terrible car accident. Gingerly I get out of the bed and stumble across my bedroom to the joining bathroom. Walking into the bathroom I catch my reflection in the mirror. I am a hot mess. My hair is knots with sticks and grass sticking out in odd directions. I peel off the old t-shirt that I was given last night and slowly begin to unwrap the bandages from around my torso. My skin is covered in bruises that are in differing stages of healing and the wound that is on my stomach is finally beginning to heal itself. Reaching back into the depths of my mind I look for my lycan. I let out a sigh of relief when I find her sleeping in the recesses of my mind. I turn on the shower and step into the water

Willow POV Faris's body floats to the middle of Lycan City Lake, just like his father before him and his grandfather before that. Horns play loudly, signifying the beginning of the lighting ceremony. I watch from a distance as the leader of the Royal Guard raises his hand in the air, and three archers light the tips of their arrows with flames. The leader lowers his hand, and the arrows fly into the air before hitting their mark. As Faris's body is engulfed in flames, I find myself shedding a tear. Not for the man Faris was at the end of his life, but for the man he was before I became his assassin. The uncle who would sneak me out of my house with his mate and feed me ice cream before dinner. The uncle who never missed a school event and treated me like his own flesh and blood even though I was not. Liz pulls at my black dress and looks up at me with her bright green eyes. "Are you okay?" She whispers, pulling my attention away from the end of my uncle's ceremony. "I'm
Willow POV As I watch Endora’s ashes fly away, the runes on my back begin to burn. It feels like someone has poured salt on an open wound. I drop to my knees and claw at my skin through my shirt. My mother and Cordelia rush to my side, ripping my shirt off my body. I look at the runes on my arms, and they are glowing bright red. “What is happening?” I cry out in pain. “Since Endora has been killed, your link to the Coven of the Lunar Star is broken,” Cordelia tries to smile even though I am in pain. “The magical bindings they put on your skin are breaking down.” “They are disappearing?” I ask as I attempt to get to my feet, but my knees buckle under my weight. Exhaustion has finally caught up with me. Wincing through the pain, I look at Faris lying beside me. His face looks peaceful like he is sleeping. I look around me, and all of the fighting has stopped. Faris’s Royal guards must have felt this tether to the pack break when he died. Now they are all on bended knee
Willow POV My two-hour training session turned into five hours. By the time Cordelia is done with me, my arms feel like jello. My feet drag as I walk from the training area back to the farmhouse. I am exhausted, and I cannot wait to crawl into bed for a few hours before Osiris wakes me. As I approach the farmhouse, my heart sinks. A group of rogue warriors is already gathered outside of the farmhouse. Osiris is standing on the porch giving them a speech. When he sees me, he raises his hand and gestures for me to join him. Mumbling obscenities under my breath as I approach Osiris, I realize I am not getting my nap. Plastering a fake smile on my face, I stand beside Osiris. Osiris wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me in close to him. My fake smile turns into a real one as I feel the tingles of the mate bond spread throughout my skin. Osiris's shoulders relax as I nuzzle into his side. He wraps his arm tightly around my waist and continues his speech. "We were att
Faris POV I leave Natacha sleeping in my bed. Her new mark shimmers under the morning light shining into the room. I had expected her mark to match the one I had given Kayla, but it is different. A beautiful rose blooming under a full moon now resides on her neck. Natacha had been more than willing to accept my mark. The lovemaking between us had been patient and gentle. I was worried about hurting the pup that grows within her. But when it came time for Natacha to mark me in return, I couldn't let it happen. It felt too much like I was replacing Kayla. Natacha pretended she understood, but I could feel her pain through the bond between us. She was disappointed. Pulling on a pair of sweats and a t-shirt, I head into the office that adjoins my bedroom. Sitting down at my desk, I begin to make plans on when and how to attack the rogue camp. But my heart isn't in it. Now that I know I have an heir, nothing else seems to matter. It all feels petty. "Why shouldn't I let
Willow POV After much negotiation with the doctor, he finally agrees to let me leave the hospital. The wound on my neck is almost healed. I have not been brave enough to look at it. I don't want to see the damage that Osiris has done to me. After taking a shower in the tiny hospital bathroom, I open the bag of clothes that Osiris brought me from the farmhouse. I roll my eyes when I see a pair of bright red lace panties and a matching bra. Sticking my head out of the bathroom, I hiss at Osiris. "You couldn't have brought something more comfortable?" There is a mischievous grin on his face. "They looked comfortable to me," he chuckles. I shut the door in frustration, and I begin to pull on the leather pants and black t-shirt. I pull my hair up into a ponytail and walk back out into the hospital room. But there is no one in there. I peek out of my hospital room and see nurses and doctors frantically running toward the entrance of the hospital. I can hear the sounds of
Faris POV It is the wee hours of the morning when I finally return to the royal mansion, but the mansion is already buzzing with activity. I quietly slip past all of the Omegas who have already started their morning chores. I go upstairs and past the room that Natacha is staying in. Her scent of lavender and roses is wafting through the door. She barely smells like a rogue anymore, and I wonder if it is because she is carrying my child. Slowly, I turn the doorknob, and I am surprised to find it is unlocked. The door opens with a slight creek, causing me to cringe. I consider walking away, but curiosity draws me further into her room. Natacha is sleeping peacefully. I have to admit she is beautiful. Not as beautiful as my Kayla, but still beautiful nonetheless. Tiny puffs of breath leave her full lips as she sleeps. She is sleeping in an oversized t-shirt. A smile crosses my lips when I realize the t-shirt is one I had left behind at her apartment. The t-shirt has ridd
Osiris POV Ella grabs my hand and teleports back to the hospital. The wind swirls in the sky as the witch sisters appear out of nowhere beside us. I am unsteady on my feet as the world comes back into focus. "I don't think I will ever get used to that," I grumble as I choke back the vomit rising in my throat. "You will get used to it over time," Ella says as she gently rubs my back. I shrug off Ella's hand and turn to the four witches. "We don't have time to lose," I say. "We need to get to Willow." Once I have regained my balance, I head into the hospital with the witches following behind me. As we walk through the halls, people scatter away from me and the women walking with me. Whispers follow us through the corridors. Many of my pack members have not seen so many witches together in one place, and their eyes follow us as we make our way to Willow's hospital room. As we approach Willow's room, the doctor is waiting for us. He looks the witches up and down before o
Faris POV Natacha follows me into the royal mansion, keeping her head down. As we walk through the mansion, I can hear the whispers coming from the Omega servants. They are wondering why I have willingly brought a rogue into Lycan City. My personal Omega, Jessica, is leaving my bedroom when I reach the top floor of the royal mansion. Her face blushes deeply when she looks at me but quickly disappears when she lays eyes on Natacha. Jessica's nose wrinkles as she catches Natacha's rogue scent, and a scowl tugs at her lips. "How can I help you, Your Highness?" Jessica says with a fake smile spread across her face. "This is my close friend, Natacha. I need you to set her up in the room next to mine," I instruct Jessica. Jessica doesn't try to hide her displeasure at the thought of a rogue staying within the royal mansion, but still, she gestures for Natacha to follow her down the hall. Natacha hesitates to follow the young Omega. "Are you coming with me?" She asks nervou
