Nolan grinned, walking towards me, as the short man left and walked out of the room. He unhooked the chains from the wall and threw me over his shoulder, then turned and headed into the hallway.
Angry, I was hitting and kicking him the best I could with my wrists and feet bound, trying to get him to let me go. He laughed. "Try all you like. It will not work."
Finally, I gave up and turned my focus to my surroundings. Two things were certain I was underground, and this was a castle. It was like I had gone back in time. Which means I’m no longer in North America. Which begs the question, just where the hell am I?
Nolan carried me into a medieval-looking room. Chains hung from the ceiling, there was an iron maiden in the corner, and the rack, which is the most common in medieval torture, sat in the middle of the room; they had iron claws on a table by what looked like a giant stone altar and a giant iron chair, and another chair sat in another area of the room. The room was terrifying. Objects I have no words to describe hung on the walls, along with whips, knives, axes, and handcuffs.
“What momma didn’t hug you enough, so you turned into a psycho killer?” I joked at Nolan, trying not to show my fear. In response, he dropped me to the floor like a sack of potatoes, which resulted in me hitting my head on the corner of the stone altar. Cursing, I sat up, glaring at the man. “That was unnecessary,” I scolded, touching my now aching temple.
The brute or Nolan was what looked like a tall, muscled giant, scarred from battle, and was missing his right eye. He must've been the large black wolf I saw with the silver one.
He shrugged, walking to the side while the short man walked into the room with two men following him. He looked at Nolan, “why haven’t you started yet?” anger clear in his voice.“You didn’t specify what you wanted done, Sir Ronan.” Nolan replied as a half-turned arm clawed him in the face, nearly taking out his other eye. The two men behind Ronan flinched, but did nothing. For Ronan to change only a part of his body into wolf form means he is ancient. I noted to myself. That's something that a wolf takes hundreds of years to learn.
“You were supposed to torture her for the information we need! I have not waited around five hundred years for nothing!!” Five hundred years. What exactly is this guy looking for? Why does he need Una and Murdina and who are they?
Ronan stalked up to me, picked me up again, and placed me in the chair that sat in the corner and strapped me in. Strong for a little fella, I laughed to myself. I wondered where the hell they got an electric chair from, as they stuck electrodes to my head and legs and removed my restraints just to securing my wrists and feet into the chairs built-in ones.
“Things are about to get interesting,” I joked, knowing that as much as this would hurt, it wouldn’t kill me, or it wouldn’t in a week when I turned twenty-one and froze into immortality. I frowned. What a predicament I’ve gotten myself into. I tested the restraints and couldn’t budge them. I guess they were magically reinforced.
They thought witches weren’t good enough to be mated to wolves, but they can profit from and buy their abilities. “Hypocrites,” I hissed under my breath as anger built
“So, are you going to tell me where they are?” Ronan questioned with an evil smile on his face.
“Like I said before, I don’t know who they are?” If I did, I wouldn’t tell you. I finished in my mind. Bracing for the pain, I knew was coming.
Nolan flipped a switch, and electricity shot through my body, causing my muscles to tense. The electricity shooting up and down my body came as a sting and not as excruciating pain as I had thought. It absorbed into my body, settling in my midriff and built until it was uncomfortable, but not painful.
Nolan switched it off, and I looked at them as they smiled, thinking they had hurt me. I’ll keep that little tidbit to myself. I’ve never really used magic, but I had felt this bottled-up electricity could help me. My mother did specialize in elemental magics and electricity does not differ from lightning. To my surprise, the two men behind Ronan were not smiling, but concerned. Were they aware of what happened or were they concerned about me? What do I care? I scolded myself. They are the bad guys?
“I’ve waited five hundred years wanting to know where Una and Murdina are. I had to wait for you to be reborn and you are not leaving here until you tell me where they are and what you did to them!!” he roared.
I couldn’t help it. I laughed. “YOU ARE NUTS!!!” I yelled back. “Even if I lived another life, and was reincarnated, you, in your five-hundred-year wisdom, should know more than anyone that people don’t just remember their past lives. What do you want them for, anyway?"
“You would and you do, Danu!” he hissed. “As you already know, they are the keys to the prophecy.”
"What prophecy?" I asked, confused, as Nolan flipped the lever and electricity shot through and into me again. The electricity continued to build as a ball that slowly grew bigger and bigger till I felt like I was going to explode. Although the electricity itself wasn’t painful, the gathering up of it was. I could feel it pushing and building till I couldn’t stand it anymore and I screamed, as I vomited electricity, spraying it and hitting everything in front of me. Lights exploded and Ronan shot into a wall, Nolan quickly flipped the switch, and everything stopped.
Gasping for air, I couldn’t help but laugh at how this had backfired on my so-called captor. Someone slapped me hard, and I sobered, looking up at Ronan, who was sitting on the floor with his eyes filled with fury and the hair which fell loose from the bun was standing on end, his face reddening, caused me to explode with fits of laughter. He looked quite crazy .
"What are you? What was that?" He roared as he struggled to his feet and stomped towards me.
Sobering again, “Why would I tell you? You caught me and should know who and what I am. You came after me! Remember!” I accused. I'm not getting out of here alive, am I? I thought as I felt something crack across the back of my head and everything went black again.
When I came to, I was hanging from a hook by chains holding my wrists together. They had not realized I was conscious because the four men were standing across the room talking. When I get out of here, I am going to enjoy killing these assholes.
“Tavish, go tell Alpha Kylen that we need more time and what has occurred here.” Ronan snapped, then turned to Nolan as Tavish walked away “Get information from her. Do not use the chair again or any electricity. I need to find out what the hell she is!” he snapped, walking towards the exit before turning to the last man, "What is it, Taven? You look like you have something to say?" He spat at him.
“What if she is speaking the truth and doesn’t know them and we grabbed the wrong person?” Taven queried.
“Not possible. Faye doesn’t mess up her magic.” Ronan retorted, walking away, with Taven nodding with a frown before following behind him.
Nolan, now left alone, turned and stalked towards the wall, grabbing a whip with a ball on the end and walked towards me. “If you’d cooperate, I wouldn’t have to do this.” He paused; his voice was impossibly low. "Will you tell me where Una and Murdina are?”
Eyeing the whip, I did my best to shrug. “I’ve already told you. I don’t know who they are and I’m not who you say I am.” I bit out bracing myself when he shrugged, shook his head, drew the whip back and struck me across the back causing a scream to erupt from my lips. He stopped to repeat the question, and I bit out again that I did not know them, which was met with another lashing. Pain vibrated through my body as each lash hit my back, causing my shirt to tear as my skin ripped and bled, each lash causing more pain than the last.
Eventually I felt myself go numb and after what felt like hours of this, Nolan stopped, lifted me up to take my wrists off the hook, and put me back in my dark cell. I collapsed onto the floor, unable to move, as tears streamed from my eyes.
I fought back the tears, refusing to let them win. As I lay there bleeding on the floor, I realized it didn’t matter if I knew these people or not, they would never believe me. I’ve never even tried to unlock any past lives I may have had; I never felt the need to. If I didn’t try, though, I would die here, or would they keep me alive until they got what they wanted from me? Would I even be able to control my magic enough to do so in the first place?
I concentrated on trying to call up my magic, trying to unlock anything that could be hidden within my mind; but without the control I so desperately needed, it was futile. I then tried to contact my wolf, which I could never do either, but was hoping this once I could, and she would help heal me, but no answer.
As there were so few hybrids, there was no one to get information from. I have never met another hybrid, so everything felt like a gamble for me. I hoped that with my birthday things would figure themselves out and make more sense for me, but that hope was also met with much pessimism. Now, being trapped here, would I even reach my birthday?
There was no one to even look for me. My parents were dead. I felt tears slipping down my cheeks. Trying not to show weakness, I struggled to keep them in, but could not. I continued to sob. It had been weeks since my parents' death and yet this is the first time that I had stopped and think about them and let myself grieve. They were dead, and I was truly alone. Tears fell until I slipped into a fitful sleep.
In my dream, I was running as fast as my feet could carry me. Two others were with me as a group of hunters got continually closer. “Run…. We are almost there!” I yelled through the mind link while I jumped over a fallen tree. The woman and the wolf with me did the same. The woman was tall, slim, and curvy, with long blonde hair and amber eyes. She turned and threw magic back at our pursuers, hoping to slow them down as my sister and I ran in our wolf forms. Alpha Darian (My sexy mate, how I loved my complicated man) wouldn’t be too far away. We just had to reach him. We had been running for what felt like hours to reach our pack's land and had gone out hunting but had gone too far, thinking that we were in neutral territory. We thought it’d be ok, but it turned out that another pack had claimed it as their own. “Darian is going to be so mad at me.” He grew angry anytime I had put myself in danger and scolded me in the most inventive ways. Eventually, we ran to a cliff and wer
A scream pulled me from the darkness that had consumed me. Fighting my drowsiness, I opened my eyes. Looking around, I tried to piece together where I was. I remembered being in North America and fighting against the Shadow Moon Pack. We were both after the same target. My father had killed his former Beta, who had run from the pack with his witch mate. It had taken years, but he had finally found them, and we followed pack law and executed them. We had not counted on them having a child, although she was not a child anymore. She surprised us by killing two of our pack. She was a sight to behold. Her Long black hair braided and falling to her waist shimmered in the moonlight which brought more attention to her piercing green eyes and small slim but curvy frame. She wore blue jeans and a red t-shirt with two swords strapped to her back. The weeks when we had pursued her, she awed me with her survival and fighting skills, although it was a disadvantage for us. She was quick on her f
“Where are they” I yelled at the wolves in the room. I had tasked them with finding my father and brothers. I was furious that they had left me behind in the first place. They left me in charge because I was the youngest and they knew I had no intention of leading, and it infuriated me that they left me in charge, anyway. Leaving me behind like some weak pup. My father and brothers hadn’t checked in with me in a few days, which was unlike them, seeing as they liked to keep tabs on me. Like I didn't know their spy was checking in, making sure I was doing my job and not womanizing. They didn't trust me, but this was just too far. I'm not just a womanizer. I have my uses and I'm smart with battle strategies and reconnaissance missions, but do they see that? No. The fact they hadn't called raised alarm bells. I knew the Shadow Moon Pack had showed up in North America and had crossed paths with them. My father was convinced that they were trying to find the keys that the prophecy had men
Nolan walked down the hallway after roughly flinging me over his shoulder. He opened the cell door and threw me hard against the wall of my cell, my head smacking against the hard stone wall before Nolan turned and left, slamming the door. I crawled to the corner and curled up, trying to get comfortable. Using the cool stone bricks to ease the pain in my head. I sat there, concentrating on my breathing. My body hurt, and I didn’t want to move. Scratch that, I didn’t think I could move. All I wanted was to find my mate so I wouldn’t be alone anymore. Before I had my parents, now I felt lonely. I wanted to live a normal life. Instead, I’m curled up on the floor, looking bloody and pathetic. Embarrassed and appearing weak in front of anyone caused me to become angry. A lot of good all the training did when I still ended up captured mere weeks after my parents’ death, unable to avenge them or escape this shitty situation. The man I had met at the bar was Anders or I guess now Alpha Ande
I awoke noticing someone had bandaged my back with whatever cloth they could find, mostly pieces of my shirt. I looked at Anders and Thane, who were now both awake. Confused. I uttered, “Why?” “I told you, your wounds needed tending.” Anders stated simply. “And I told you, let the pieces fall where they may.” I retorted grumpily, sick of the weird dreams and nightmares of my parents. Now, to top it off, I had a bipolar cellmate. Shall I kill the lass or help her? I’ll help her and kill her later. Again, mimicking his voice in my head. “You should’ve left it, but thank you.” I grumbled at barely a whisper, surprised I hadn’t woken up when he had bandaged it. Thane looked at me, puzzled. “What are you thanking us for?" he paused and continued, "Why are you here, lass?" I shrugged. “For bandaging my back. They think I know something I don’t, or I don’t know maybe the same reason you guys hunted me.?” I accused, causing him to flinch. "I am sorry about that," he looked at Anders. "I d
As I watched her sleeping in the corner and my brother who had fallen asleep on the floor. It left me alone with my thoughts. I was so confused. Had she been right about us putting her in danger when we had killed her mother and if it were true, why did it matter when she was supposed to be executed, anyway? When I had bandaged her wounds, it hurt me to think of her in pain. I wanted to kill the assholes that had done this to her. Her scent was a lure to me, making me want to draw her in closer, so I could embrace more of her and breath her in, letting her scent fill me and calm me. Why did this petite, beautiful, and strong woman draw me to her, was it her witch abilities? “Why do I feel guilty for helping kill her parents, and why do I care if these guys injured or killed her?” I was following orders. My father loved his Beta like a brother and he still followed the law and beheaded him, as the pack expected of him. “Maybe because you know what you did is wrong.” My wolf Vilkas su
The next few days went by in the same fashion as the others. They questioned me repeatedly, and when i told them the same answer they tortured me. I knew they were getting increasingly frustrated. The dreams repeated as well, and I decided I had known Una and Murdina, but it didn't matter because I didn’t know them now. Even if I knew them or had found them, I would not serve them up to their… no, our murderer. The brothers weren't tortured again; I guess because they were hostages while Alpha Kylen waited on the third brother's reply. They had only tortured them the once, giving up rather quickly. “Wonder how long they are going to take to come back. From what I can see, they return at least once a day.” They brought food every evening, I guess to keep me from starving. If I were a transitioned wolf, I wouldn’t need to eat as often. “I don’t even know how many days have passed if I’m being honest.” I stated. “It is hard to tell when you have no way of seeing the sun. There are no w
“I said leave her!” I shouted at Thane, “You know what she is?” after I had processed how many problems she would create if she lived. No matter how I felt, it wouldn't make a difference. She would still die. “An injured wolf who needs help!” Thane argued as her sleeping body fell limp in his arms, unwillingly causing panic to rise inside me. Alec checked for a pulse. She was still alive. Did I just give a breath of relief? Why she was born with a death warrant over her head? "You can't leave her here." Vilkas yelled. "She means something to you. Are you really going to fight your instinct and let her die?" "You know what will happen. They will find out what she is and expect me to kill her. At least this way it is not by my hand." I argued with him. "If you do nothing. It will be as if you had executed her." Vilkas stated. Damn wolf had a point. “Why do you want to bring her, anyway?” Alec asked Thane, curious. “Whether or not Anders wants to believe it, he’s smitten with her.”
Something brushed against my cheek rousing me, I opened my eyes as I moved closer to Anders, resting my head on his chest, breathing in his scent. “Morning love.” “mmm” I mumbled as I reached my hand up, rubbing his neck and shoulder. He chuckled, “We can’t stay in bed all day.” I sighed, moving to stretch, “Actually, we can because you are the Alpha and can boss everyone around.” I teased. He sat up, grabbing me by the waist pulling me to him, “You know it don’t work that way, love.” “Well, it should.” I pouted as he kissed me. “If you want me up so bad then let me go, so I can get dressed.” I laughed as I pushed him away, heading to the closet and grabbing clothes. “What are the plans for today, anyway?” I asked as I pulled my jeans on. “We have to come up with a game plan. The stuff with the Shadow Moon Pack is not finished and we need to find somewhere to hide your new weapon.” I forgot I had the immortal scythe in my possession now, I barely recalled grabbing it before he
Something took over my body. Power erupted from me as the scythe flew from Elder Zeebs hand into my own, my arm swung out as Alpha Kylen seemed to appear out of nowhere stepping in front of his father, the blade sliced through his neck. He fell to the ground as Elder Zeeb stood in shock, then screamed “My son, you little bitch, you murdered my son, as he knelt holding his son's head, his Luna ran to Alpha Kylens body sobbing throwing herself at him. Behind Zeeb, the army moved to attack me. The scythe was poised again as power continued to spill out. "Leave!" an unfamiliar voice ordered as the wolves' heads snapped up and Elder Zeeb and the Luna looked at me and the others in shock. "What the hell is going on?" one of the Shadow Moon Packs wolves asked confused, "What is she?" Instead of an answer, Zeeb looked around at the wolves behind me as if gauging the situation. “This isn’t over, we will get revenge for what you have done!!” Elder Zeeb yelled as the Luna and the Shadow Moons
Once the battle started, everything became a blur as blades slashed through the air, growls and cries rang throughout the field. Isla and my brothers beside me we blocked and defended heading towards Alpha Kylen and his father, I glanced over as Isla was being pushed away by three wolves, attacking her in unison she blocked and defended moving farther from me. I turned to follow as an onslaught of wolves surrounded my brothers and me, biting back the worry about her safety. I focused my attention on the enemies in front of me, blocking blows and swinging quickly, bringing down the lower ranked warriors. Looking around, I realized my brothers and Isla were nowhere to be found. I worked my way through the army blocking and dealing blows as I weaved my way through the carnage, bodies scattered the ground, some wounded, some dead, blood marked the once green field as the fighting continued. An enormous man charged at me, his lance poised to impale me, I dodged at the last second and sna
As we need neared the border, the tension among the pack members increased, I could feel their emotions, their anxieties. Taking a big breath, I exhaled, the feelings clearing my mind. “Imagine what you will feel when you claim him as well.” Daciana laughed. “Bitch.” I scolded her. Unlike the males claiming bite, a female wolf claims her male by publicly claiming that he is hers and as a result a tattoo of his mates wolf appear on his bicep, if he were ever to betray her the tattoo would become poisonous and slowly kill the male wolf, just as a marked female who betrayed her mate would slowly bleed out from the bite she received from her mate. The only way to escape such a fate would be to publically reject each other and have both parties wanting the rejection. We approached the clearing from earlier along the border stood the shadow Moon Pack Alpha Kylen stood at the front facing us with his father Elder Zeeb by his side. Anders and I stood in front of our pack as they fanned out
“I’m on my way.” I yelled as we ran as fast as possible to the Northern border. "Be safe, there is one hell of a fight going on," she informed. "Don’t tell me you went to where the battle is happening?" I yelled back angrily. She wouldn’t dare get involved. “A wolf cried in pain. I can’t just ignore it.” She retorted. “Fuck, we need to go faster,” I ordered to Vilkas. “We are going as fast as we can, not to mention she isn’t some helpless she wolf she can handle herself.” “You don’t know which wolves are from which pack. Just wait for me!” I yelled, as panic and worry surged through me the dreams replaying in my head. In all of them, we had been separated, and she had been killed. “How far are you from here?” she asked. “Minutes away. just wait. Please.” I begged. “She’s not going to listen.” Vilkas shared as we jumped over some brush, “She won’t allow a pack member to be injured never has. It’s one of the things we love about her.” “I can’t lose her again.” I declared as we
I ran towards the direction the howl had come from, the sounds of battle were becoming louder and louder. “I’m on my way.” Anders yelled into my head as I continued in the noise's direction. "Be safe, there is one hell of a fight going on," I informed back as I exited the trees and emerged into a clearing. Ten wolves were fighting, blood sprayed the ground, multiple wolves were unconscious, all of them were injured in varying degrees. "Don’t tell me you went to where the battle is happening?" He yelled back angrily. “A wolf cried in pain. I can’t just ignore it.” I thought back as I descended upon the battle. “You don’t know which wolves are from which pack. Just wait for me!” he yelled, I could feel his urgency in his voice as he was trying to reach me and the panic and worry that radiated through him. “How far are you from here?” I asked as I stopped, turning around and retreating back into the treeline. “Minutes away. just wait. Please.” He begged. “I can tell which wolf bel
My brothers followed the sentinel into my office. “What’s happening at the border?” Thane asked before I could. "The Shadow Moon Pack is gathering at the northern border, we believe they are planning to attack soon, we saw their scouts and have followed their movements." “Thank you, we will need to prepare as well.” The sentinel bowed and left. I turned to my brothers, “Seems Zeeb has informed them of our plans. I bet he had Ashina take Isla as a way to distract me.” “I know you want to find Isla, but we need to know who is loyal to our pack first, we need to have the pack members swear an oath of fealty or we are putting ourselves at risk in this battle. We don’t know who Zeebs followers are.” Alec advised. “I agree, at least she is safe with Ashina. They are blood related after all.” Thane added. “Blood related or not, she is a threat. We don’t know what her plans are.” I sighed, knowing I had to focus on the upcoming battle. "Gather the pack in the dining hall. We will see wh
After looking out the window and making sure her henchmen were not guarding the door, I left the cabin, closing the door silently behind me. I headed back up the path, careful not to make too much noise; I searched for the door into the castle and could not find it. Maybe it was a portal. I thought. “Okay, so no door now what?” I spoke to myself. “Guess we get back the old way. We can’t be too far from the castle; I can sense it.” Daciana shared. “It still could be far away.” I noted. “We will run all night if we have to. The fact that Ashina took us now means the Shadow Moon Pack is planning their next move.” I nodded in agreement and shifted. We took off running through the trees, stopping to smell the air to get a sense of what direction we needed to go in. “If that door was a portal, it would make sense that it wouldn’t be there anymore, but at the same time, what witch or witches are helping her with this?” I thought as we continued to push forward into the thick forest. “We
“Maybe I’m paranoid, but Ashina and Isla are taking a long time, are they not?” Thane asked, looking at the clock on the wall. We had discussed a new battle strategy and were about to go over when to attack and decided that night was the best time to catch them off guard. “It has been too long. It's been over an hour.” I tried to mind-link with Isla, then Ashina, but was unable to. It was like they were being blocked from me. I rose and headed from office and down to the kitchen. Two men lay unconscious in the destroyed space, panic overwhelmed me as I looked for her, but she wasn’t here. I grabbed the closet man and shook him. “Where is she? Where is Isla?” I yelled at him. “She… is safe with Ashina.” In shock, I dropped him. Had she betrayed us? I looked at Shaw. “Where would your mother hide someone?” He looked at me and replied, “To be honest, I barely know her, she was never around, and I don’t even know where she stays when she’s here. I’m sorry.” He was right; he spent m
