"Wake up, Princess."

Cinnia ignored the sweet voice that beckoned at her to leave the warm embrace of sleep. She rolled from her back to her side and carried on sleeping.

Abruptly, the warmth she was cocooned in was torn from her body. She whimpered at the loss and her eyes finally flew open to meet Denzel's brilliant green ones.

"Denzel, I love you, but please, you cannot wake me up so early in the morning. I'm sleeping for two remember?" Cinnia pouted.

"It's already noon. From your wonderful speech last night, I should be the one still asleep not you. Especially since you slumbered through most of yesterday." Denzel shook his head at her disapprovingly but a smile still played on his lips.

Cinnia's lips formed an 'O'. He was right. She had given him a whole lecture and still woke up later than him despite having more rest. She vaguely remembered reading a book on her phone till around three in the morning but didn't recall falling asleep because she had promised herself tha

Sebastian paced around Cinnia's unconscious body. His face was a stone-cold impassive mask that gave nothing away to the glee and expectations that danced through his mind in a mad rhythm. To him, Cinnia was a beauty. A rare picture of perfection but that wasn't what concerned him. What had his attention was the blood rushing within her veins. The blood contained not one but two contrasting elements. The world’s first hybrid. The flames from the fireplace reflected in his glowing red eyes, igniting the danger that lurked beneath them. His hungry gaze ran across Cinnia's face, to her chest, and finally, her protruding belly. His sclera slightly darkened as he inhaled the scent of Cinnia's perfume and the baby powder she had dabbed on earlier; he bared his fangs and placed his cold hands against Cinnia's tee. Unsatisfied, he lifted the tee and rolled it under her breasts. Sebastian's breath hitched once his hands came in contact with Cinnia's skin. He listened and soon, the wonde

"Maverick Montgomery! Tell these brutes you call guards to let me in!" Sophie yelled from the gates of the Nightfall pack house. She rattled the heavy iron bars with all of her strength but they didn't budge. "Agh!" She cried out in frustration, slamming both palms against the smooth iron while the two guards watched her with zero expression. She narrowed her eyes at them. "You both are enjoying this, right?" When they didn't respond, she rolled her eyes and resumed her banging. "Hey! Maverick! I know your hearing is perfect! Come out. It's important, please." She tried once again. Minutes later when Maverick failed to show up, she turned around and was about to leave to think of a different way to alert the wolves about her vision, when Maverick called out her name. "Sophie." She stopped in her tracks. The energy she once had in rattling the gates evaporated from her body simply by the sound of his voice. She felt her knees go weak as she remembered the last night they spent t

  • The Lycan King's Hybrid Mate   The measure of power

Cinnia hummed a tune from one of her favorite songs as she knocked her head against the chair she was tethered to. With her magic cut off and her inability to free herself from the heavy chains, there wasn't anything else that she could do to escape from captivity. While she murmured the lyrics of the song, she recalled the prophecies from the fae and Sophie. 'Many would lust after her blood', they said. That was her ongoing predicament and Cinnia felt her chest constrict with hate for prophecy. Cinnia tapped the sole of her shoe against the concrete floor, to the rhythm of the music in her head. Just then, her stomach rumbled loudly causing her to let out a resentful chuckle. A tear slipped from her eyes and rolled down her cheek while she continued banging her head against the chair. Abruptly, the door was opened and Cinnia turned her head slightly to the side to see who had decided to finally grace her with their presence. The second her brown eyes clashed with the striking red

"What is it?" Mya who was seated opposite him, laid her warm palm on the crook of his elbow. "You've only been asleep for ten minutes. Did you have a dream already?" "Ten minutes? Felt much shorter than that. Anyway, no... It wasn't a dream. More like..." "You could hear the sound of her voice like she was right beside you?" Mya completed. Denzel released a breath that did nothing to ease the burden that weighed heavily on his shoulders. "Yes." "I understand, Alpha. It was the same way when Brandon was kidnapped. Hell, I heard his voice everywhere. It didn't even matter if I was asleep or awake. He was always there." Mya squeezed Denzel's elbow gently. "I got him back with your help. Now, with my help, with everyone's help, we're going to get our Luna back. The entire werewolf clan will have their queen back in one piece. Now, sleep. You look like shit. Unless you want Cinnia to be repulsed when she sees you," She teased. Denzel's lips perked up into a small smile at her jab.

Sophie woke up with a sharp gasp as if she had been deprived of air for the longest time. "Fuck, I was about to take you back to the compound," Denzel exclaimed as he let out a sigh of relief. "Why? What happened? Wait, why am I on a bench?" Sophie asked and forced herself into an upright position. Denzel furrowed his brows. "You don't remember. You passed out without warning. It's been almost..." He checked his watch. "Twelve minutes, Sophie." Sophie puckered her lips to the side from disbelief. "Bizarre. Anyway, I'm perfectly fine right now. Shall we continue? I have a feeling that we're very close." "Are you sure?" Denzel prodded, concerned about her health. "I am," Sophie confirmed. Later in the afternoon, Sophie stopped in front of an ancient-looking catholic church. Its towers rose to the sky and Sophie imagined that the dirty, stained glass windows would have been glistening in the hot sunlight once before. From the outside, the church seemed to be abandoned judging

TRIGGER WARNING: READERS' DISCRETION IS ADVISED FOR THIS CHAPTER AND THE NEXT. Ever since Cinnia was born on that unexpectedly stormy day twenty-two years ago, she had been marked for death. Infused with abilities that should have never existed, Cinnia unknowingly grew up to be the most powerful being in the world. A hybrid. To save her only child from a prophecy that spelled doom, Manara—Cinnia's mother—bound her strengths. However, Cinnia unleashed one side of it. The very part that alerted Sebastian's bloodlust even in his death-like slumber. Cinnia was no stranger to loss. It hung over her like a cloud every second she was alive. Her parents' deaths changed something in her and until she met Denzel, she had thought she would remain that way forever. But Sebastian wanted to take someone from her. Someone she had contemplated getting rid of but found herself striving to protect every single day. Her daughter, who would become just like her. A hybrid. Lycan and witch. Cinn

TRIGGER WARNING: READERS' DISCRETION ADVISED. Denzel raised his head in alarm. Cinnia's tortured shouts split through his head as he and his army of warriors came to a stop outside the old church. He clutched the sharpened wooden stake strapped at his waist—one of the many he had hidden in different parts of his clothing—till the skin over his knuckles was stretched taut. Anger, rage, and a boiling hot need to tear people apart raged within Denzel. He gritted his teeth and with a short, hand signal, he ordered his pack warriors to follow him into the church. Just then, the air thickened all around them and they slammed into an invisible forcefield one by one, with Denzel hitting it headfirst. "How in the world am I supposed to get to my girl now?" Denzel muttered, beginning to question himself. When they stumbled back from the barrier, Mya appeared at Denzel's right side and shook his shoulder. "I thought you said that Sophie was bringing the barrier down! Why is it still u

Denzel's joyful and relieved grin faded the minute his eyes landed on Cinnia's pale and limp body on the altar. Her eyes bore darkened rings around them and her chest was barely moving at all. "Princess?" Denzel called out shakily. He tried to move a muscle, anything to be close to her, to be completely sure that she was still alive and with him but Sophie's magic held him in place. Andres hefted Cinnia off the altar stone and dumped her frail body on a pew. A soft moan escaped from Cinnia's lips before she went silent. That silence all but ripped Denzel's heart out of his chest. "Cinnia!" He yelled. The veins in his neck strained as he screamed out her name over and over again. "Will you stop that, Alpha Denzel?! She's not dead yet or you'd have felt it by now." Sebastian rolled his eyes as the witch who delivered the child handed her over to him. That exchange would have seemed innocent if not for the situation surrounding it. The simple trade filled Denzel's heart with res

Six months later... It is during the time of peace that one should fear the occurrence of war. However, the prospect of war was a distant threat. One that Cinnia didn't even want to think or worry about. Sebastian was gone; so were Elijah and all the other vampires and hybrids he had created. Therefore, Cinnia only sought to enjoy the relative peace that had settled over West Volken for the last six months. There had been a lot to do after finally defeating Sebastian. The wounded had to be attended to—fortunately, they healed quite quickly, some faster than others—and a lot of collaboration among all the factions had to be established to ensure that adequate excuses and compensations were given to the families of the humans that had been turned by Sebastian and the matter hidden from the press. In the two months after New Orleans, although everyone constantly reassured Cinnia that none of the deaths was her fault and nothing was held against her, she still couldn't help but occasio

Fucking son of a—Agh!" Cinnia balled her fists and kicked a pebble in front of her, sending it flying. She ran her fingers through her hair and sank to sit on her heels. A muscle in Denzel's jaw ticked. He wanted to break something, to kill someone but he had to keep his anger in check. There had to be another way. "When could he have done this?" Denzel murmured to himself as he stepped further into the rubble, not minding the smoldering ash that licked at his shoes. Mya moved ahead of him, kicking away crushed stones and waving her hand in front of her to block away the dust that threatened to suffocate her. Some minutes later, they returned to where Cinnia still sat, her fists shaking in her lap. The look on their faces said it all. The tree was gone. Cut down and burnt to a crisp. Only a single root r

"I feel I should be surprised but weirdly, I'm not," Cinnia whispered to Maverick whilst keeping her eyes on Denzel who stood ramrod straight as he stared down at the bloody heart in his palm. "Me neither," Maverick replied with the corners of his lips raised in satisfaction. His brother always had a way of showing up at the right moment. "Can you please find me some water around here? My throat is dying," Cinnia requested to Maverick. "Sure." The moment he left, Cinnia took slow steps to Denzel. The clangs of weapons, grunts and growls of the supernaturals, and the whimpers of the wounded echoed through her ears which created a nagging feeling in her chest. Something was wrong. Sebastian was dead, wasn't he? Then why was the battle still ongoing? His creatures should have dropped dead...even the one she had granted the illusion of choice. Yet, when Denzel's eyes met hers finally, all previous thoughts melted away and she picked up the pace and ran to him. A huge smile lit up Den

Cinnia's heart pounded in her chest as she waited and hoped that Sebastian was truly messing with her and Maverick wasn't dead. She didn't think she would ever be able to forgive herself if he died because of her rashness. She gasped when Maverick landed face-first on the ground right in front of her. A relieved smile grew on her face but promptly bled out when she noticed that he wasn't moving. "Why isn't he getting up? What did you do to him, you bastard?!" Cinnia yelled, struggling against the bonds that held her back. She felt the skin on her neck break and begin to bleed but she paid no mind to it. She screamed her voice hoarse, yanking at the chains but it was futile and all to Sebastian's glee. "What did you do?... What did you do to him?..." Cinnia sagged against the chains that held her down; her voice reduced to a pitiful croak. Sebastian sat on his heels and bent his head to the side. A wide smile that immensely irritated Cinnia was stretched out across his face. "It's

"Beg your pardon?" Cinnia quirked up an eyebrow, uncertain about whether she heard properly. "Kneel before your King," Sebastian repeated, dragging out each syllable like she and Maverick were dim-witted five-year-olds. Cinnia and Maverick exchanged a glance. Then, Maverick scoffed while shaking his head and clutching the fresh wound caused by the grazing of the silver bullet, on his arm. "I only have one king and I don't even kneel before him..." Cinnia bit back. A second later, she added as an afterthought, "Often... And I certainly won't do it if he demands it in that tone you're using." As she spoke, she kept her right hand behind her with a portion of her mind focused on chanting a spell and channeling power to her fingertips. Sebastian barked out a laugh. "I do love your sense of humor. It's refreshing. Very rarely do average people make jest in dangerous situations." "Thank you for recognizing my immense potential." At the last word, she fired two bolts of crackling ligh

  • The Lycan King's Hybrid Mate   To be feared

For the first time in a long while, Denzel had a dream. One that he remembered the moment his eyes fluttered open to the dimness of his room. A smile grew on his face as he recalled the events. He was happy. There were no foes. Just him and his princess. Yawning, he stretched out his muscles and then turned to pull Cinnia closer to him. But the sheets beside him were as cold as ice. He shot up from the bed, his heart racing in alarm. A glance at the bedside clock let him know that it was almost four-thirty, half an hour before the pack would assemble by five a.m. He got up and threw open the curtains. As someone who never slept for long, he should have been awake thirty minutes before. "Princess?" He called out to the eerily empty room, hoping that she was in the bathroom and just being extremely quiet or holding her breath or something. Yet, from his incredible hearing, the sinking realization occurred to him and his eyes widened. In a flash, he washed his face, threw on some c

Cinnia watched from her window as Denzel drove off with Maverick, Mya, Kai, and five of his best gammas. As Luna, without even being told, everyone was looking up to her to run things in the absence of their Alpha and Beta. However, she didn't feel like doing anything pack-related. Earlier that morning, she practiced various spells from a grimoire she had taken from her mother's house before the Darah Haven witches decided to try and drain her of her magic. Yet, she still experienced some difficulty in performing some of the more complicated magical spells and it made her throw the entire book aside from frustration. Cinnia leaned her head against the window frame and heaved out a melancholic sigh. Just as she was about to lock her door and try the spells again, someone knocked on her door. Her shoulders dropped as she bowed her head and let out another sigh. "Come in," She called out after a beat. Conall stepped in and shut the door behind him. "Do you people not have off

Mya scoffed and folded her arms across her chest. "When last has anything been good around here?" Denzel shot her a look that made her zip up her mouth. "Well? Speak up, brother," Denzel pressed as his index finger drummed an anxious beat on his thigh. "Sebastian has made more vampires out of innocent humans. The council just sent a memo about a meeting tomorrow because of all the disappearances the human faction have had to cover up as freak accidents or kidnaps," Maverick informed. Denzel raised an eyebrow at him. "You aren't telling me everything." "Can this get any worse?" Mya mumbled while tracing a pattern on the ground with her foot. "It can. It has," Maverick answered her. "I don't understand how Sebastian has done it but the smaller packs have been recruited into working for him. He's making an army of vamp

  • The Lycan King's Hybrid Mate   The aftermath

Cinnia wordlessly threw dirt onto the little coffin in the freshly dug hole in the ground. Three days had passed since Sebastian's victory and barely a word had left her mouth. To someone who wasn't privy to her situation, they would think she went about her days like a normal person but those who knew her intimately—especially Denzel—were aware that she wasn't the same. The Cinnia he had met that starry night in Bromsken was gone and replaced by a hollow shell of the woman she used to be. Maverick was like Cinnia. The only difference was that he buried himself in business, pack duties, and hunting for Sebastian. Sophie's death had changed something inside of him. Though he never properly acknowledged the relationship they had, it didn't make him feel any better. In those three days, he was filled with unwavering regret that he couldn't have been with her the way he wanted. He finally understood just how Denzel felt about Cinnia even though she was part witch. Worst of all, he cou
