*********** Three years after ***********
I am wearing my blue robe with gold embroidery over it. I roll the sleeves back. My hair hangs loosely around my shoulders; it is shorter now since it’s harder to train with long hair. A thin golden chain hangs by my neck with a tiny crystal hanging on it.
It was a celebratory gift from Caius as we started our plans. Caius promised that if all goes well, not just a Luna, but I will be the Lycan Queen of Dunkerson Kingdom. Truthfully, Caius said that we needed another year to prepare our plan, but I told him I would rather die trying, than live another day waiting for vengeance for the humiliation done to me! Besides, instead of one year, it has become three years already!
And so, I roughly bite on the meat and swallow in anger. We are within the Dunkerson Kingdom. My vengeance is close!
Suddenly, Caius chuckles beside me. I glare at him, but he only teases me. “You are eating like a peasant. Maybe that‘s the reason you were cheated on?”
I smack his hand away when he tries to reach for my food. We are currently in one of the restaurants. “Oh really? Don’t tell me you’re giving out insults again just because you treat me to a meal this time?” I ask.
Caius beams. With the glamour around him, no one would know that he is a descendant of the original vampires. I remember when I first met him. He looked so beautiful with his blond curls and white-gold eyes. He is elegant and regal, even without his crown or robes. It is so hard not to stare at him. Besides, I’ve always been appreciative of beauty, and unfortunately, Caius has a few features that are considered attractive.
He gives me a sidelong glance. “Your glamour is working perfectly.”
I grimace. “Of course it will work. For the past few years, I have mastered using glamour. Even when I am unconscious, it will never break.” He laughs, and I give him an annoyed look. “I’m serious. Do you doubt my skills?”
“Well then, maybe my glamour ain’t very good. When I am unconscious, it will revert.”
I roll my eyes in exasperation. “Did someone tell you it is good?” I ask.
“Well, none yet,” he starts. “But complimenting myself ain’t that bad.”
His grin grows wider as he chews on the juicy pork on his fork, his sharp fangs visible.
“Enough with the gloating,” I say, my voice tinged with anxiety. “Your fangs are showing,” I hiss at him.
Then one of the servers approaches us. Caius looks at her with a hungry gaze, and she stammers if we have any additional orders.
“My lady, would you like to go outside with me?” Caius asks.
“Excuse me?” the waitress asks.
“I will pay triple your daily wage. All you need to do is play with me.”
I groan at the same time that the server understood Caius. She blushes and makes a brief nod. Seems like I will be alone in my room tonight.
Caius stands up. He drapes his arms over the woman and says to me, “Register for that magic competition. I will meet you tomorrow morning.”
I nod. And the next thing I know, I am standing under a tree, feeling a chilly breeze brushing against my skin. I look at the magicians queuing up for the competition. They all look excited, just as I was when I joined four years ago — all done so my husband, the Lycan King Gideon, will notice me. Not knowing that it will be my downfall.
A couple of minutes pass before a voice calls out, “Next! Who’s next?!” “It is Hera of the Liddicoat Kingdom,” I answer. “You plan to become a citizen here?” A young man asks with suspicion in his eyes. “Tired of all the vampires there?” “Yes, and maybe,” I answer. “What kind of spell do you use?” “Mostly elemental spells. Potions.” “How about combat?” “Not much.” “What do you mean by ‘not much’? You’re not even carrying any magical weapons!” The guy rolls his eyes and takes notes down on his sheet of paper. “I will let you join, but are you really sure? It will be a crazy competition,” he warns. “You know how popular the Lycan king is. Most female mages want to be the new Luna.” I nod, perfectly knowing how popular Gideon is. He is so popular, in fact, that he will cheat on a wife who’s done nothing but love and serve him. “That’s why there is competition, right? To decide who deserves him.” The man behind the table snickers, “Well, that is, if he will ever be at home for t
I stand in the center of the arena, surrounded by dozens of other competitors. I close my eyes and reminisce about the feeling of standing in this exact spot four years ago. Back when I was gullible and oblivious to the world. However, now, I don’t feel the same jitters and excitement. No more sense of anticipation and trepidation. I open my eyes. On the banners, on the stage in front of us, are the written words ‘Luna Festival Competition’, the same contest that will decide who will be the next Luna for the Lycan King. Then the announcer’s voice booms out from the loudspeakers, which echoes across the arena. “Welcome, audience, judges, and competitors, to the Luna Festival! This year’s competition will be even more spectacular than four years ago! You will be tested in every aspect of your knowledge and skills, from the warrior’s arena to the alchemist’s laboratory. But before we begin, let us remember why we are having this contest: to earn the right to be the next Luna who will s
There are only fifty remaining participants after the tool invention challenge, and the spectators cheer as usual. I glance around. Lycan King Gideon is in his assigned seat. He is as handsome as ever—dark hair, onyx eyes, and tanned skin—all features that make me so infatuated with him. He looks older now. However, that only makes him more handsome. His shoulders look broader, and he looks more muscular than before. I snort. I wonder who he is physically hurting with those arms and fists? He sits beside Queen Marinella, who seems happy to see her son early. Just the bare minimum, and she is already this happy. She really spoiled him rotten. And then I look at the five women seated behind him. Caius said those are the Lycan King’s current concubines whose only job is to bear him a child since the Luna seat is empty. Three of them are pregnant. He already made a couple of them pregnant, huh? ‘Such a loving husband you are, Gideon.’ Instead of wallowing in that thought, I look aroun
-- Gideon Dunkerson’s POV -- “Serra, my Luna…” I whisper with such heavy feelings. I have been searching for her for over a year. When I lost her, I lost it too. I didn’t know then that losing her would spiral me into an acute grief that would render me invalid. It was not until an old monk suggested traveling and getting away from the place we’d been together that I was able to stand up on my feet again. No, not stand up, but crawl and try to survive. However, it teaches me sympathy, and I gain the courage to search for her. “I didn’t want to be the same average-looking Luna,” she starts, her voice soft. She is what I remembered her to be. “Yet you deny that to me as well.” “I am sorry,” I whisper, and I can’t help but reach up to her cheeks. I caress them, not quite believing that she’s back. Every time I dream, it’s her face that I see. “You really are back….” “Can you still take me as your Luna? Even if I lied? Even if I used glamour to hide myself?” “Oh, Serra,” I whisper. S
My dreams have always been about the pain of my years of training. I spent an entire year in the Liddicoat’s family house. It is where their family library stands, underneath that big, old house. And there, I scour ancient tomes and scrolls, learning more spells that might come in handy when my quest for revenge starts. In my dream, my fingers will dance over different parchments, tracing the arcane symbols and incantations of long-lost spells. Caius also provided me with seers, monks and alchemists. And because they are being blackmailed by the vampire prince, they are forced to share their techniques with me — all poultices, elixirs and enchantments. But handy techniques and skills are not the only things I peruse. I also worked on my skills of using powerful and potent spells, like that powerful sleeping spell. ‘Revenge is worth any price,’ I will say to motivate myself, when things have become so hard. And then, my dream will transport to an island, where I spent another year o
If Gideon is really serious about treating me well, sending his concubines away is the bare minimum. I know that now, but if I were the same Serra as before, this piece of news would have made me very happy. But now, it did nothing to quell my need for revenge. “Children, huh...” I whisper. “We don’t have one...” “We can have one, if you like.” He kneels before me and takes my hands in his again. “When I lost you, I needed to sire heirs, but now that you’re back, we can try again.” It was not so long ago that I was desperate for a child, but now, every thought of it fills me with hatred, remembering how the child in my belly died due to all the stress and pain of being his wife. “I can’t, right now,” I answer in a small voice. “I don’t want my child to get embroiled in an inheritance war, especially with all your other concubines...” He squeezes my hand. “They won’t be!” ‘They?’ Don’t tell me he plans to have more than one child with me?! The thought alone repulses me! “Only you
Gideon’s voice breaks me out of my trance and I glance up at him with a small smile. “Thank you, Gideon,” I say. Queen Marinella looks between the two of us with a doubtful expression on her face. “It seems like there is more to your story than meets the eye.” Gideon chuckles lightly and reaches for his glass of wine. “There’s nothing more to say, mother,” he says smoothly. But Queen Marinella doesn’t look convinced. “Well then, how about we play a little game?” she suggests. I feel a knot form in my stomach as I turn to look at her. What kind of game is she talking about? And why does it sound so ominous? “What kind of game?” Gideon asks. “A truth or dare game,” Queen Marinella declares, her eyes still fixed on mine. The thought of the childish game almost makes my heart leap — that is, in its stupidity. Was I really this gullible that she thinks I will reveal all my secrets in such a foolish game? “Okay…” I answer, as soft as possible. Queen Marinella claps her hands togethe
I roam the once-familiar corridors and grand halls of the palace. Gideon has sent me an assistant named Claire. She is mid-thirties and is supposed to help me acclimatize to the castle’s inner workings. This castle, the same place where I felt both unimaginable happiness and pain, will be mine soon — or sold, or destroyed. Anything. As long as in the end, Gideon and his family will live like slaves amidst every piece of rock and stone of this castle. As I pass through the different offices and rooms, Gideon’s closest kin watch me as if I am some kind of apparition. Their glances are a mix of curiosity and disdain. Claire then leads me into a room filled with luxurious furniture and paintings adorning the walls. “This is where the King and his Council members hold important meetings and negotiations,” she explains, gesturing towards a large mahogany table in the center of the room. I nod, taking it all in. “These paintings weren’t here before,” I say, pointing at one depicting a ster
I groan as I stretch my sore muscles, a side effect from the intense lovemaking sessions with my husband, the Lycan king, Gideon. Right now, he is lying next to me, a satisfied smirk on his face.“Enjoying the aftermath?” he teases, trailing a finger down my arm.I roll my eyes and slap his hand playfully. “Shut up and let me recover.”He chuckles and pulls me into his arms. “You know I can help with that.”I laugh and kiss him on the lips. “How? Run me ragged again?”“It should be ‘ride you ragged’, but then again, you’re the one who had ridden me last night, or was it earlier morning?”I hit his chest as we laugh. “I wonder what they will say, since we missed the official announcement of the martial combat winners this morning.”“They will say that the Lycan King and his Luna are busy on some marital duties,” he responds, caressing
The arena is a sea of colorful banners that represent different noble families. The sun is glinting off the weapons that are wielded by the skilled combatants, their sweat and determination evident on their faces. The crowds cheer and jeer as they watch the intense bouts, adrenaline pumping across the arena. I sit beside Gideon, his hands intertwined with mine. He moves closer to me and whispers, “Do you think that after this we can return to our rooms?” I smile at him. Lately, he has been insatiable. He is worse than I was when I drank Caius’ blood. If I don’t know better, I will say that he’s jealous of my need to visit Caius from time to time. It’s as if he is afraid that he will lose me again — as if the previous is not entirely his fault. “My king, we are in the middle of a competition,” I scold Gideon teasingly, yet I inch my leg closer to his. He smirks and leans in to me. “Yes, but it’s becoming hard to wait. I need you now.” I can’t help but giggle at his eagerness. “Ther
However, Gideon seems oblivious to my discomfort. He pulls my skirt down and places a kiss on my neck again. When he gazes at me again, he looks as if he is glowing with joy.“All well?” he asks, placing a kiss on my hair before sitting straight on the couch.I straighten my gown again and smooth it out. I also reach to my hair and try to fix it. I know I look like a mess. My cheeks might probably be flushed, and I look disheveled.“Enter!” Gideon bellows. And then, Caius, Prince of Liddicoat and my partner in my revenge against the man who was just between my legs earlier, enters the room. His white-gold eyes land on me and his eyes shine with amusement.“You called for me, King Gideon?” he asks, bowing a little to him.“I did,” he starts, moving closer to me. “You’ve been going around the castle, making passes on the servants. Is the Liddicoat royalty not afraid of siring bastards
I beam at him and reach out to gently brush a strand of hair away from his forehead. His worry is lessening, replaced by desire instead."Should I ask Claire to retrieve all my work and transfer here?" I ask. “So I can work with you?”"Yes, please," he says, kissing the side of my neck, his arms still around my waist. Then his mouth goes to the top of my chest, all the while kissing. I place my hands on his shoulders as he continues to bury his face on my chest, then on my stomach."Oh, Serra..." he whispers as he goes down on me.And then he kneels before me. He takes a look on my face before he buries his face on my crotch, taking a long sniff through the fabric."Gideon…" I whisper. "It's still early.""I want you now, Serra," he whispers, pulling up my dress, his fingers grabbing my legs.I hold his chin and make him look at me. "Can we do his after dinner with the Queen? I don't want to look disheveled and flushing in front of her.""It's good, right? She'll know that we are busy
On days when Gideon and I are not lazing on the bed, I methodically weave my web of influence and power within the castle walls. With Claire’s help, I familiarize myself with every nook and cranny of the grand castle, re-learning the names of those who fill its halls. Despite facing skepticism from some members of the court, others welcome me with open arms. They share stories of the changes that have taken place in my absence — the wars waged, alliances that are forged and broken, births and deaths of nobility, and scandals erupting. Basically, Gideon’s world without me. “Ah, Lady Serra! It really is a pleasure to see you back in our midst,” Lord Ryland greets me with a bow. “Thank you, Lord Ryland. It is good to be back,” I reply with a smile. “I have some information for you,” he says, winking at me. I listen intently as he fills me in on the latest gossip and political affairs. While I may not be thrilled about returning to this life of courtly politics, it is necessary for me
The morning sun filters through the sheer curtains, casting a warm glow over Gideon and I as we lay tangled in the sheets. Our bodies are still entwined from our lovemaking the night before. But it’s not really the sun that wakes me up. It is Gideon’s morning kisses, which are stirring me again, even after just a few hours of sleep. His touch is gentle and yet demanding, as if he can’t get enough of me. As if it’s him who just drunk blood from a vampire instead. “Mmm,” I murmur against his lips, my eyes still closed. “Good morning.” He chuckles, the sound vibrating through my body. “You’re finally awake, sleepyhead,” he teases, kissing the corner of my mouth before trailing down my jawline. His lips leave a trail of fire on my skin as he moves down to my neck, nipping and sucking at the sensitive flesh. I tilt my head back with a soft moan, arching into his touch. “I could get used to waking up like this every day,” I say breathlessly. Gideon hums in agreement, his warm hands sli
The smell of grilled steak and roasted vegetables fills the air as we sit across from each other at the dinner table. But our focus is not on the food in front of us; it’s on each other. Gideon sits confidently in his chair, his dark eyes never leaving my own. I get up from my chair and move to him. I then straddle him, my legs wrapped around his waist as I grind down against his hard length. “You’re going to distract me from eating,” he playfully scolds with a smirk. “You are already distracted,” I reply, nibbling on his earlobe. “Besides, I can think of better things to do than eat.” “You always could.” “Well, my dear Lycan King, are you not going to take me again this morning?” “It depends if you want me to.” I reach down his pants and start pulling it down, freeing his manhood from its prison. “I won’t take this out if I am second guessing.” He chuckles at me and starts to tug at my underwear, too. We help each other out until we are both bare from the waist down. He captur
I feel my cheeks flush as I pull away. Slowly, I sit up, never breaking eye contact with him. My body is still tingling from our previous activities, and the way he looks at me only heightens the sensations. “Lie on your side,” he orders. I obey, and he lies behind me. Without a word, he reaches out and guides my hips until I am positioned just how he wants me to be. “Like this?” I ask breathlessly, my legs spread out. “Perfect,” Gideon replies before gripping onto my hips and entering me again from behind. “Ahhh!” I moan loudly at the feeling of being filled once again. Gideon’s strong hands are holding onto me tightly, guiding our movements together in perfect sync. As we continue moving together, I can’t help but feel incredibly desired. I can feel every inch of him inside of me, and it only added to the overwhelming pleasure coursing through my body. “God, you really feel amazing,” Gideon whispers in my ear as his hands reach for my chest. I moan, unable to form any cohere
Without hesitation, I lift her into my arms. She wraps her legs around my waist as I carry her to our bed. We fall onto the soft mattress with a thud, our lips crashing together once again in a passionate kiss. Her hands tangle in my hair as mine roams over her body, memorizing every curve and dip. She presses herself against me, igniting even more fire within me. Every touch, every kiss is like a spark of electricity between us. Then I remove her clothes, taking in every inch of her bare skin. The scent of her arousal fills my nostrils, making me even more aroused. I lean in to taste her neck and she gasps softly, arching her back. My tongue darts out to trace the delicate vein before teasing it lightly. Her breath hitches and my kisses send shivers down her spine. Her taste is like honey on my tongue, sweet and addicting. I move down her body, taking her breasts into my mouth. I knead and suck them, and when I touch her heat, it’s already wet and ready for me. An urgent need mak
