Adrian
I dropped his toy train and walked over to meet Steven, the pack doctor, who was now gathering up his equipment.
“Steven” I turned around to look at Milo, to make sure he couldn't hear me “What do you think? When do you think he would be able to talk?"
From his expression alone, I already knew what he wanted to say and it wasn't good news.
He simply shook his head, not wanting to add salt to the injury. Disappointment washed through me as I walked him out. Every time he paid a visit, I had always hoped that he would give me good news, that he would talk real soon.
Ever since Asher, my former Beta and his father passed on, he had been like this.
Milo was his father's son and the only thing Asher held dearest to his heart. Their bond was so strong that when Milo realized that his father wasn't coming back from the war like other men, he fell ill.
To make matters worse, Hailey, his mother, left him because she wasn't able to cope with his illness.
Milo had no one to care for him so I took him in as my son. Not just because he was alone, but because Asher was my best friend and confidant. This was the least I could do for him so he could rest in peace.
By the time I got back to the room, Milo was already in bed so I crawled in with him and patted him to sleep. That was all he ever did. He played with his toys a bit but most times, he just slept.
It bothered me because I didn't want him to grow up alone. I may not be there all the time and I wanted him to have people around him to be there for him.
The door opened and Nora stood in the doorway with her hand over her mouth. She signaled for me to come outside and I shooed her away. Slowly crawling out of Milo’s bed, I made sure he was asleep before shutting the door behind me.
“What is it?” I met up with her in the drawing room upstairs.
She crossed her hands against her chest and pushed herself off the wall. She gave me a once over and I already knew there was something in her mind. I just couldn’t guess what.
“You haven't given me an answer to my question.”
I racked my brain but couldn't seem to even remember what the question was.
Nora wasn’t my beta officially, but she does everything a beta would. And she did it good.
“You said you were going to think about what I said." She sounded exasperated.
It still didn't ring a bell.
“You. Getting married. Again.”
I rolled my eyes and held the door handle.
“I was never married before. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be doing something important."
“Okay, wait.” She grabbed my hand. “This time around, it's not just for me. Listen, things aren't looking good with the wolves from the Red Moon Pack. If we want them to actually sign the treaty, then we need a Luna.”
“Red Moon doesn't have a Luna." I wanted to roll my eyes.
“But at least, the Alpha has been married. Listen, just think about it and this time, try to do something about it.”
Deep down, she knew that I wasn't going to do anything about it. Not now, not ever.
“Adrian, you-”
“I’ll think about it, on one condition.” Her smile fell. “How about you find your mate first?"
She burst out laughing.
“I'm not like you, Adrian. We're not in the same situation. Besides, men are trouble. I'm fine the way I am."
We both laughed and as she walked away, I actually put some thought into what she said.
Maybe Milo needs a motherly figure to finally talk.
“Finally, you're speaking a language I can relate to.”
Of course, it would take a topic like this that would get Allister to finally show his ugly face.
He is family, and like every family, he is the most annoying of all.
He had been one of the supporters of Nora's campaign to get me another mate but no matter what they did or planned to do, their plans won't work.
“Forget it, it's not going to happen.”
Right now, my primary and only focus was Milo. The only thing that would make me so happy was to see him talking, nothing else.
“But just think about it. If you find a new mate, you'll be happier. Milo would have a motherly figure which every child needs and you'll be able to sign the treaty with Red Moon."
I ignored him because it was the only thing to do. The moment he started his rant, he would never shut up. I had never met a wolf that talked so much.
“Adrian, just-”
“Forget it, Allister. Just drop it. How many times do I have to tell you that I'm not interested in being with someone else? Have you forgotten so quickly what Emily did or have you forgotten what Hailey did to Milo? The way she abandoned Milo just like that? You can't possibly expect me to forget all that and move on!"
The memories were still very fresh in my head. The pain, the way I felt when Emily left me, the countless days that I tried begging her to come back. The horrible days after she left, how hard it had been for me to pull myself from that darkness. No, I couldn't possibly move on.
Just the mention of her name made me feel a pang in my chest, but I quickly shoved it away. I was over this, over her.
I had promised myself after everything that I wouldn’t waste my time with women ever again. I would never marry, or claim a mate. And this little plan they have to push me to do it isn’t going to make me change my mind.
“Adrian, I didn't mean-” Allister started but up I cut him off sharply.
“Forget it." My tone was final.
He got the message that I wasn’t in the mood. They both didn’t try to speak again.
I still wasn’t back to normal, after the unnecessary reminder of Emily and what happened with her.
I couldn't concentrate so I walked out of his room and went back to mine before changing my course and heading towards the door.
A run in the woods was the perfect thing to take my mind off all this talk that was annoying me.
Quickly changing out of my formal wear, I put on normal clothes and slipped into the dark woods.
KayaI was sure it was Serena's voice I had heard coming from behind the mask. She was my sister, I couldn't possibly mistake her voice but somehow, I had still wished that it wasn't her. I hoped that it wouldn’t be her. That she wasn’t as bad as she portrayed herself, and that my sister was in there somewhere. The person took off the mask slowly, and the scar was the first thing I noticed. And all my hopes shattered. “Serena… What's the meaning of this? What are you doing? Let me out of here?” I fought against the thigh ropes and she laughed. The sound was like a dagger to my chest. No, seeing her was the dagger to my chest. That just turned it more, causing more pain and making me bleed even more. After all the things she has done, I’ve never felt as betrayed as I do right now. I regretted giving her a chance all these years, for believing there was some good left in her. That my sister was in there somewhere. She isn’t. She never has.“Let her down, boys." One of the men steppe
KayaI was waiting for it, the sharp quick death Serena was going to give me. Or maybe she'll make it slow and make sure I suffer in pain as she watches my blood drain into the ground. Whatever my death may have been, it did not come in soon, I felt the absence of the knife against my throat. Slowly, I opened my eyes in case Serena was still there but there was no one there. She wasn't there and neither were the other men who were standing with her. What the hell? What was going on? Did she have second thoughts? Knowing full well that Serena wouldn't pass up an opportunity to get rid of me, I looked around properly to see if this was just another trick to see if I would actually run away and then catch me in another trap. That was when I saw it, the green glowing eyes approaching me. If that wasn't a wild animal, then it would definitely be a-His growl was the next thing I heard and I froze. Those bastards, they had left me here to be food for whoever this was. I couldn't fight wh
KayaThe guy dropped me on the floor as more footsteps approached us. Had Serena gone back to bring more men to fight him? As we stood waiting for whoever was approaching us, I took a quick glance at him. I had never seen anyone so relaxed in a moment like this. He had a stoic face and looked straight ahead like he could scatter whatever it was, with his mind alone. My ankle was throbbing badly but there were more important things to face right now. “That’s them!” I looked up to see Serena pointing right at the both of us. No, she hadn't gone to bring more men. She brought my father, Jackson, and more guards. This bloody bitch actually had some balls. “Get behind me, it's fine.” The guy whose name I still didn't know, pushed me behind him but he didn't need to protect me, this was my family. Or so I thought.“What are you talking about, Serena?” She went to stand beside my father and held his hand. “Dad, this is the rogue she's been having an affair with. I told you I'd find pr
Adrian They say you learn new things everyday but I never thought I'd get to see a wolf treat their own child like this. As I watched the way these people treated her, it drove me crazy because they were the ones who were supposed to be protecting her. Lycans valued their children, they loved and died for them but it obviously wasn't applying to these people. They treated her like a slave not worthy to stand before them. Her father just stood there in silence, not saying anything to defend her while the girl, Serena, just kept feeding him with lies. What good father would stand still and watch as his daughter is hit by another man in his presence but he didn't even move an inch. I would have ripped his hand off first for calling me a rogue, then for having the guts to raise his hand on her. But I couldn't blame him, he didn't know I was an Alpha. But I was a King only in my Kingdom and by Red Moon rules, Kaya and I should be sentenced to death. This was one of the rules that was
Adrian If the members of my pack saw me right now, a war would break down. Their King, shackled and bound like a prisoner. I'd reached out to Nora through the mind link and she was furious. The first thing she asked me was how the hell I got there in the first place and frankly, I didn't even know. I just have been so out of it while running that I didn't know when I crossed our lands into theirs. Anyways, I told her that I'd explain later and she should just make my identity known before they hung my neck from a guillotine and Serena would have her long term wish if seeing Kaya die. No, I couldn't allow her to die. “Hey Asher!” There was no response. “Wake up, you lazy shit.” I called to my wolf, whom I named after Asher when he died. “First off, I wasn't asleep. Secondly, that's a very offensive thing to say to your best friend.” “Whatever. Where were you when I needed you? We should have fought off those guards and maybe then, we won't be in this mess! We're locked up, Asher.”
Adrian I pushed open the wooden door, the bright light being the first thing hitting my eyes, in contrast to the darkness in the dungeons. Nora stood up immediately, bowing her head to me and there seated on the couch like little rats were the rest. Alpha Hank was the first to kneel, then his daughter followed reluctantly. That toad that slapped Kaya was next. I wanted to deal with him myself and I hoped that I got the chance. He actually dared to lay a hand on what was mine. Not only did I find it disrespectful, I saw it as a threat. He wanted to see what I could do. Ignoring them, I walked past them and went to sit on the couch, taking off the clothes I was wearing. Due to the scuffle out in the woods, I was wrapped in mud and dirt. ”I brought you these.” Nora handed me my royal attire asn I almost smiled. She knew all the right things to do. When I was fully dressed, I addressed the unfortunate situation before me. “Jeez, how the hell do I handle this trash?”Hank was an A
KAYA “Do you want to keep staying here? With them?” I looked at Adrian who was now on his feet, just a few meters away from me. I'd have to be foolish to agree to that. These people had made my life a living hell and I had looked forward to the day I'd get away from them. For the years following my mother's death, I'd lived at their mercy like some slave looking up to her master just to see the next moment. My father was looking at me with wide eyes, like he hoped I'd say yes. He had always been delusional. Always refusing to see the big picture. That was why my mother died. When she was sick, he was the one who refused to take her to the hospital because according to him, werewolves never got sick. I had a bad feeling about her illness and I begged him to get the pack doctor but he refused. Now, he wanted me to stay back so that he and his golden daughter and her boyfriend would continue to mistreat me. No way. “No. Over my dead body.” That finally got a reaction from Jackson
ADRIAN “How do you know that when you haven't spoken to her yet?”Did I really have to speak to her? If she had something to say, she would have talked since. “Besides, I need to determine if she's worth it. If she's worth loving. I can't just jump right into it again.”I'd made a mistake before and I wanted to avoid making it again. “So, what are you going to do with her?" I looked at her and she was still in that position. What was going through her mind? “She’ll stay with us for now. Since her wolf is hidden, it gives us time to get to know her very well and I'll need to see how she is with Milo.”Milo didn’t like a lot of people. It took time before he got used to Nora and that was one of my greatest fears when thinking about a mother for him. What if he didn't like Kaya? What would I do then? “What the hell, Addy-”“Don’t call me Addy!" I hated it when he called me Addy. Both he and Nora did it to piss me off and it worked every time. “Just admit that she has been everythi
KAYAI slept in my room alone again today.Right now, I wasn't fighting with Adrian but I didn't want to be in the same room as him. Because no matter how much I tried to avoid it, we would most definitely fight. And right now, I didn't have the strength or will power to get into a fight with him. He however, didn't understand what I was trying to do.He wanted to fight. And I didn't.So he came to my room that night to look for me.I didn't even know it was him. I thought it was Milo who had come to tell me that Lana had fallen asleep. I had to leave her with him because I was falling asleep and since she still had so much energy in her, he took her.“Come in!” I simply shouted without even turning aroud. When I heard the door opend and shut, I close
KAYA“Detective, I'm sure it goes without saying that a man who killed his wife won't jeopardize himself. Tim didn't do this.”I'm pretty sure he had gottne that memo so I dismissed him after reminding him to find Lucy's phone quickly.I didn't think that whoever took it would be stupid enough to leave it on but I had to count on that little possibility that they were and hope that they could find the phone. When the detective left, Tobias remained.“Nora, can you check on the kids for me? Lana should be having her second bottle by now.”She nodded and left, realising that I didn't want to speak to Tobias in front of her.“Tobias…”“You realise that what your officers have done is unforgivable. What if we are never able to find who
KAYA“When Tim told you that he had seen a keychain and a bag on the counter, why didn't you believe him?” “Because we didn't see it for ourselves. We thought he was trying to throw us off. He had just been caught with his wife's body. He'd do angbting to get out.” While that was right, it was also stupid. Would he kill and stay here to mourn her? “He was crying. Tim was crying when he was found right? Would a murderer cry after his killing? Or would he run as fast as he can so he won't be found?”Seemed like there was a whole lot more to police work than passing the military exam. “My Queen, psychopathic serial killers have done worse from cutting up the victim's bodies to -” “Is Tim a psychopathic serial killer?” That question threw him off guard but he had to answer it. I needed answers. “My Queen-”“It’s a simple question, detective. Is he or is he not?” “He’s not.”I was tired of speaking to him. It was annoying. “So why would you classify him with them? Do you have proo
KAYA“Twenty minutes isnt a lot of time to do all that.”I brought out my phone and called Nathan. “Nathan, I need your help okay? You don't have to be scared. I want you to help me go down to the dungeons and give Tim the phone. I need to speak to him.” I thought he reject to do it. I didn't want to have to call Adrian. That was if he was even at home and not going around with his new son. “Okay.” I stayed on the line while he went down to the dungeons.I needed to hear what he had to say about that day and not what he told the police. He had been under a lot of stress at that point and it was only reasonable that he would tell them what they wanted to hear just so that they would leave him alone. Nathan gave the phone to the guard at the gate so I could tell him to let him pass through and take him down to Tim's cell. “Um mum, he's here.” “Tim, can you hear me?” Someone cleared their throat in the background. “My Queen, yes I can hear you. Is there any problem?”“Tim, I'm i
KAYA I looked over the calendar. It was obvious that she had used this yo time her missed periods, fertility window and the time she'd get pregnant. “That is not enough proof that she was cheating. We can only speculate. There are still a lot of loose ends.” She was right. “Why don't you look through their personal effects and I'll check through the house?”I nodded and she left me in the room. I was here to find out about Lucy's life so I would check her things first. There were some papers on the nightstand. All they were were cards and random notes. I looked through her clothing, hoping to find a safe or something that the police hadn't looked through yet. I searched her entire closet but nothing came up. Did Lucy have any secrets? As a woman, if I had something to hide, where would I hide it? The police had already been through this place and they didn't find anything. Hmmm, maybe I should read the case files. Maybe then, I'll have a better picture of what happened.
KAYAI ended up sleeping in Milo's room that night because I really didn't want to sleep alone. So I decided to sleep with him. In the morning, I had just opened my eyes when the door opened. Nora stood in the doorway, already prepped for the day and she signalled me to come out since Milo was still fast asleep. I slowly removed my arm from under his head, trying not to wake him up. “Tobias is here, in the waiting room.”Already? What time was it? “Nora, I need you to do something. Go to his office and get the files of Lucy's murder. I want to go through them. After that, I'll meet you up at the house. We need to go through her house to know what her life was like.”I'll just ask one of the guards to take me to Lucy's. “You’ll question him alone?” “Yeah, I just need to shower first.”I genuinely felt like I could use a few more minutes in bed but that phase of my life has passed. At this point, I should be grateful that I even got time to close my eyes at all. “Adrian was loo

KAYA“Kay-”“Adrian, please. I'm trying to get some sleep. Sleep that I couldn't get because you left me in that cell for days! Please, leave me alone.”I walked over to my side of the bed and pulled the covers over me. I didn't have time to banter words with him. “Why’re you acting like this? I thought I already apologized. Why are you making it to be something it's not?”I knew what he was doing. Riling me up so I would talk. But I won't give in to him. I had to get up early tomorrow. Tobias was coming and I was almost definitely going to be spending the first part of the day alone since I wanted Nora to go and get me the case files. After I saw Tobias, I would meet up with her so that we would go to Lucy's house together. From what I gather, the house had been closed down since the murder. I just hoped that no one had gone into the house after the murder to mess things up. “Kaya, going to bed while angry isn't going to make things better. Besides, I had no idea you were going
KAYAThat's exactly what I did when I got home.I headed for Lana's took where I saw the maid feeding her.“My Queen.”“Is she crying? Let me see her?”I dropped my bags and headed straight to take her. She seemed heavier as I carried her and her face lit up as I called her name.“Hello, my princess. Did you miss me? You seem to be going well.”I didn't know whether I should be happy that she was doing fine or I should be sad that she probably didn't notice that I was gone.“Maaamma!”I just froze, not being able to say another thing.I looked at the maid who had a big smile on her face.“Is that her first word?”Th
