First mate?

“Yes my brother had a first mate” I didn't realize I had said that first part out loud till Kain responded.

“I know everything that transpired, plus one secret that might change your views on what type of person he is, a secret that might save your life all for a deal” he whispered fanning the flames of my curiosity.

“What kind of deal?” I asked, my voice quieter than I intended. There was no backing out now. I needed to hear what he had to say, no matter how much I hated it.

Kain leaned against the wall, crossing his arms, eyes dancing with amusement. “I know all about your little situation back at home. Your stepfamily, how they treated you like dirt. How you were practically a slave in your own house.”
