The Look of Death

Harper woke up with a start. Something has awakened her. A faint scent.

She stirred on the small bed, where little Hector was lying on his back. A little smile crept on the side of her lips. How can someone be so little and just laugh and sleep all day?

Harper snuggled closer and planted a peck on the baby’s cheeks. She couldn’t help but smile and adore the little baby.

When a knock was heard on the door, she already knew who it was. And she’s certain for what reason it was: food.

The islet was resourceful and abundant with everything they needed. She’s done with the tour and now, she knew what lies in every corner and folds of the islet. Which was a necessity.

“I’ll just take the food for me, Grandma. Hector just had his milk before he slept. I don’t want to overfeed him.”

The old woman nodded and carefully placed the small bowl of baby food back on the tray. She picked up the spoon at the side and dug a bite out of the pineapple. It tasted sweet and tangy at the same time.
