Harper woke up with a start. Something has awakened her. A faint scent.

She stirred on the small bed, where little Hector was lying on his back. A little smile crept on the side of her lips. How can someone be so little and just laugh and sleep all day?

Harper snuggled closer and planted a peck on the baby’s cheeks. She couldn’t help but smile and adore the little baby.

When a knock was heard on the door, she already knew who it was. And she’s certain for what reason it was: food.

The islet was resourceful and abundant with everything they needed. She’s done with the tour and now, she knew what lies in every corner and folds of the islet. Which was a necessity.

“I’ll just take the food for me, Grandma. Hector just had his milk before he slept. I don’t want to overfeed him.”

The old woman nodded and carefully placed the small bowl of baby food back on the tray. She picked up the spoon at the side and dug a bite out of the pineapple. It tasted sweet and tangy at the same time.

Damon shot Harper a look which made her gasped. The usual calmness of his eyes was now gone, replaced by fiery embers of rage. “Please… don’t do this. You don’t want to do this. I know.”Her eyes watered, not wanting to hear his next words. Deep down, Harper knew what they’re going to be. And that she won’t like it. None of it. Harper reached for Damon’s arm, hoping her soft touch would be enough to make him change his mind. “Step back, Harper…. I don’t want to hurt you too.”Harper froze. No, she shook her head. This isn’t the person she knew for the past year. This isn’t Damon. It’s only a stranger hiding in his skin. On the base of her throat were the words of begging… again. It’s there on the tip of her tongue, wanting release. But she has begged enough… and it was all unheeded. To do another one would be futile at best. Harper was torn in between. What does she do now? She can’t just let him hurt her in any way. For a swift motion, Harper stepped in in front of Grandma Laur

Alpha Draco came for one thing only: Laura’s life as payment for the things she has seen in the past. All of the things she shouldn’t have seen. And the word “son” coming from his lips fell like an atomic bomb.“What did you just call me?” – Damon asked, hoping he only misheard it. “Yes, that’s the truth. You’re my son. My first-born.”Damon froze in his place. The two men following him looked at each other in disbelief. None of them has expected what they just heard.“No… that was a lie. You’re not…”Alpha Draco smirked. “I know you already know, Damon. You don’t need to pretend like this is new information for you. I can see it in your eyes.”Damon gulped. Yes, since the time he heard it from Grandma Laura, it hasn’t left the back of his mind. He wanted to believe it was nothing but a well-established lie… but when he saw Alpha Draco in person, that first look, the first resemblance of their eyes and bone structure, a part of him already knew. Yet sometimes, denying the truth wo

Ignorance is bliss, they say. When you don’t have an idea on what bad things have occurred, you have no ground to be upset. You continue with the status quo you know, avoiding the fact, especially when it hurts or when it’s unacceptable. To Harper, hiding in the safest keep she could find, everything that’s happening outside was only a part of an annoying nightmare. Anytime now, she’ll wake up. She’ll open her eyes and realize that all of it was over, like an opening act done right the first time. Harper cradled Hector and thanked the little angel for not making any noise. Outside wasn’t as noisy and chaotic as she expected. What was happening in there? Damon and his two men were clearly outnumbered. She has been hiding for an hour, and when the 61st minute hit, Harper decided to get up and peek at the window, hoping to see something as good news. She saw nothing. Could it be possible that none of them advanced and only stayed on that limited area of Middleland?Harper still knows

Silence sometimes can be louder than words itself. Harper and Damon sat next to each other on a fallen log. The air between them was nothing but awkward. Hector was bouncing the small of his feet on his lap. It was few of the times that the small child was comfortable with his father’s presence. Well, one of the few. Countable fews.“You know it’s going to be different now, right?”“Different is an understatement.” – Harper said, with gritted teeth“I know. What I meant is that it’s not going to be easy with Alpha Draco being on the scene. However, it won’t be of any effect with me and you… and how we run the pack.”Harper scoffed. Who was he kidding? It cannot be possible. Now that his presence’s known, he would manifest it everywhere. He would be interfering with a lot of things everywhere. “You know that’s a lie.”Damon exhaled… then stood up. The place is getting quiet… quieter every second. The fact that there’s only him, Harper and the keeper of the place here isn’t something

It took Brayden a minute to notice what the others did see. Members of the pack arrived and he saw the one he was waiting for. She. There she is: his one and only mate who’s taken away from him.Harper also turned and met his eye. She frowned and whispered something to Asher’s right ear. The latter replied and Brayden read the words through his mouth: “I don’t know what happens now.”What happens now is the extreme takeover. When Brayden got the news that they’re moving to the camo because of the Great Alpha’s orders, he was enthralled. He didn’t say anything to object to such plan. What he said is that he’s supportive of whatever the Great Alpha decides on. Then they were told to pack up immediately. So here they are.“I missed you too, Harper.” – Brayden said as soon as he reached the area. Harper only gave him a meaningless look“Not much of a talker, huh?” – he teased even more after seeing Damon’s annoyed face. “There, there. You two should talk about this matter soon. Only o

  • The Lycan King’s Claim   Brewing Victory

With a tissue paper, Harper wiped the edges of the glass where the lip mark of Brayden was left. It was a simple potion really, one that she learned from the books and saw the witches brew in person. Upon wiping the mark on the edge of the glass, she folded the tissue paper and placed it on the side. Now, the brewing part. She only needed a small burner and a clay pot. Upon getting them from the potion room, she locked the door of her room. This has to be brewed for 12 hours so if she needs it tomorrow, she should start brewing it today. She dropped the tissue paper at the bottom of the clay pot and ignited the burner. A half cup of water, half cup of the special incense the witches do themselves. Once it brewed, she poured the purplish liquid. She emptied the vial. Perfect.A little grin crossed her face as she did that. The swirling of colors on the pot, together with the unending dances of smoke. In her mind, she was imagining what would come of it: their stupid combat games to

No one sees farther than what meets the eye. Just in plain view, it was only a dress. Harper kept on checking the small bulge under her voluminous skirt. It was where she placed the vial. It’s still warm from reheating the brew. Feeling the cylindrical vial with her skin, a small smile crossed her lips. She has this small, victorious but fleeting feeling of knowing that somehow, whatever will be the outcome of the combat games, she has gained a little bit of control about it. As if on cue, she saw a server coming out from the kitchen with two glasses of water. Instantly, Harper jumped on the opportunity to come and approach the woman. “What is this? Is this for the men?”The woman’s eyes widened upon being stopped by the wolf queen. “No, my queen. It’s for the alpha and the king.”Perfect, Harper thought. “Let me handle it. I’m heading there anyway.”The woman didn’t agree, but she was quick to grab the tray handle from the former. It’s a good thing that the glasses weren’t crys

The anticipation was killing her. She knows it happening. Harper’s wristwatch tells her it has been 12 minutes since Brayden has drowned the liquid down his throat. The latter didn’t notice it as he was giving his last-minute instructions to the combaters. Damon was listening intently. Or so she thought. For the first time in a long time, Damon was thinking on whether he could win this match or not. Unlike the past occurrences, this one’s the finale. All the others won’t matter if he loses this one. “… and when you hear the bell, that’s the signal that the combat is over. Neither of you is allowed to move a muscle by then.” – finished AsherNo more words were left unspoken. The crowd was giddy and excited of what’s about to happen. “Alpha Draco requests your presence, sir.”The messenger talked in a slow fashion, careful that the Virgo Alpha would hear it properly. Marion just finished settling on an old room inside the common room. It looked like it belonged to a royal she-wolf, based on the expensive paintings on the wall and the hand-sewn dresses inside the closet. “Tell him I’ll be there shortly.”“He said it’s urgent, sir.”Marion nodded. There’s no excuses with the Great Alpha. Besides, he’s not in his territory. He’s at the Red Blood’s, the first time he got out of the roundhouse and housed in a different setting actually. The messenger left the door open. Marion put down the third pillow case he packed with him and followed the former to the main room of the common room. Inside, Alpha Draco was waiting. He’s sipping jasmine tea from a small teacup. A lady in waiting was at his side, holding the kettle by its handle. With a plain breakable plate placed under it.“You called for me, Great Alpha?”He lo

In front of them were the men, the woman and the little baby that they all hated: the ones they denominated as “rebels”. They were on the front of Marion and Alpha Draco.“We meet again…” – said Damon.Harper and the rest of the group stood behind their alpha. The men were carrying their own choice of weapons, their own poison against the enemy. They stood gleaming at the site of fresh dead bodies on the floor. Proudly. The look on Alpha Draco’s face says it all. He wanted the war to be over. He wanted the war to begin as soon as it can. Right in this moment. Right in this spot. “Finally… I’m tired of chasing after your tail, Damon. You and Brayden can come here and let’s finish this once and for all. I’m tired of chasing and of canceling this to another schedule.”Damon licked his chapped lips. He has the same ideas. He didn’t come here to visit his father. He didn’t come here for peace. None of them believes in peace anymore. “I cannot agree more. Later, then. Once and for all.

Just when the silence stretched between Harper and Brayden, Damon got up from his sleep and pulled Harper closer from the waist.Brayden’s eyes followed where Damon’s hands were and gulped. In a moment, he turned to the other side and tried to forget what he has seen. He managed to turn and keep his eyes and body that way.“You’re up early…” – muttered Damon with a raspy voice.“Yeah… my body clock’s messed up these days.” – replied HarperThat was a lie. Her body clock has nothing to do with it. It’s always her thoughts that keep on saying something to her. It feeds her negative ones instead of empowering her to think of solutions. And of course, the place and the ambience did help with the thoughts. It even made the way for it. It even made her feel worse.“Is that because of the war?”“No, something else.”Harper looked at the ring that’s still on her finger. If Anthony didn’t cause a distraction, would that scary man really cut off her finger? For the sake of proving a point? Are

These droplets of sweat blurs his vision as they get past his eyes. “Do you have some news?” – Elias already has some expectations in his head. Hopefully, this is going to be good news. And hopefully, this is about the Great Alpha too. “Yes. you should go outside to see what’s up.”Elias nodded and then he got up to check if there’s really someone inside waiting for him. As it turned out, there’s a small crowd gathered outside over something. The question is, what’s the cause? Who is there that everyone seemed to be alarmed?“Is that…”The rest of the sentence got drowned in the air. the guard who brought Elias the news did not even let him finish. The boys walked closer to see what he’s pointing to. Then, Harper followed. She already knows what it is, she only got closer so the others won’t speculate. They cannot know she’s been here before. “This is where your safe place is?” – Asher asked with a huge question mark on his face.“Yes. This is what I meant by that.”They all didn’t look impressed. But then again, they’re hiding from Marion and their men. Anything safe that they can use will do. Just not to be caught. Anything. Just not that. They cannot be captured. Not this time. With Brayden leading them, they approached the mouth of the cave and got inside one by one. Among them, only Hector seemed to be enjoying the show.“H

“Goddamn it, you have a knife! I don’t care if you cut her finger!”Harper’s eyes widened when the huge man on her right got a knife from his back pockets. It’s a new one and surely sharpened just before they went to the roundhouse. The slight shin of the knife reflected the fear in her eyes. Damon’s hip still hurt with the hitting. He was held by four men, struggling as he throws all sort of cure words upon Marion. The man with the knife neared Harper and she stepped back, pulling the two men with her. They can’t be serious. They surely cannot just cut off her finger when Marion tells them to. Or she could be wrong. It’s also possible that these men are Marion’s puppets and would do anything he tells them to. No matter howbrutal or illogical that can be. “Damon, just go… “ – Harper’s vision blurred as the tears welled on the corner of her eyesDamon shook his head. No, he’s never going to leave her. Damon kept on looking behind him. He hasn’t seen Harper yet, the entire time that they were inside. The last time he did was when they were sitting on the benches. The slight gap on the door cannot hold a person going out yet. Whoever attempts may be squeezed. “Harper? Harper, where are you?!” – the question roared in the air. They were stuck in the main room with lots of the Virgo aiming at them. Not to mention that the great number of its members were clawing their throats to make their way out. Aside from that, there are two Virgo men who’s at his back as he shouted. They were trying to catch him and bind him with a thick rope. The rope was too thick and Damon noticed that if that will be used against him, he cannot break it with his fists. He cannot set himself free from those.“Harper!”And then, like a mira
