'SLASH!'

Laylin felt flustered for only a second before she alleviated his sword and dagger with her aura pointing right at his neck. One from behind the other from the front.

“I’m in a bind right now. I’m sure God won’t punish me for killing an assailant.” She seemed like a veteran criminal going about her crimes as if they were justified.

Her cynical mannerism chilled him to his bones.

His lips parted as he eyed the daggers in the air. Laylin's palm was getting sweaty as the footsteps grew closer. She needed to run for her life.

"I wonder, why you aren’t getting rid of me, in that case.” he hesitantly baited her.

She pursed her lips, There was no way she could carry the King out of here on her own and there was no telling when her aura will wane away.

She was surprised, it hadn’t already. She had never used her aura for anything more than warming her tea or her bath water.

Laylin’s eyes widened in incredulity before she scoffed up at him.

“I need you for manual labor but I c

“Sire!” She tried to separate them but Ambrose looked murderous. His eyes glazed. He must be losing his senses. The poison was supposed to dull them... It was getting out of hand and he wasn’t letting him go. She raised her hand to use her aura but the shattering of glass beat her. The guards outside must have found a way in because of the voices. A second later a commotion broke out “Sire, we need to leave!” He turned to her, his eyes livid. She knew at once he wanted to fight to take back his throne instead of leaving. Rurik flailed about, struggling to breathe as Ambrose choked him with one hand. “...Sire, I wish to leave. You can come back but you are poisoned now. Both of us will die.” Looking into his eyes, she felt herself go numb under his blank stare before she finally summoned the courage to push him away from the dying man and he let her. Rurik fell on the floor, coughing ad wheezing. The King turned to her before he wordlessly stepped away from Rurik. The commotion h

Her eyes fell on her husband who was now moaning in pain. He was unconscious and she could feel his life vitality slipping away. She tried to light up the fire again but it only flickered in her end and died down. Her head spun, making her lose her sight for a second. Her sigh conveyed her frustration. Her aura had almost run out. Laylin nodded. A good distraction will give them a good fighting chance. “Okay, but we need to move fast.” As she said that she felt the ceiling again, men weren’t that close. They were probably out of these prison walls surveying the place looking out for them. After listening for several seconds, she peeked up and indicated him to move up. He at once dumped Ambrose on the floor but Laylin was fast in cushioning his fall. “I’ll pull him up and when the guards come for him we can escape safely…” He went on explaining his plan as with his both arm he climbed up. “...From there we just need to find a passage that leads out of-” “Rurik.” “… The Palace

“What in the seventh hell is that thing?” She was lost for words in her fear-induced state but that shock didn’t last long. That thing was nearing the unaware band of soldiers who were led by Rurik who was running while screaming hysterically. In the commotion, they might have mistaken the camouflaged monster for tree leaves. The beast crouched ready to snatch one of them with his pointy sharp sword-like toes when Laylin shot her aura at the monster and threw Rurik in the air. The monster shrieked deafeningly and the soldiers finally realized the presence of the uninvited guest. A good distraction. She almost smirked. Rurik who was in the air landed finally. After a massive collision, he crashed right beside her. The tiles beneath him gave out. With one look at her, he crawled back shaking and wheezing. In agitation and rage, he lowly mumbled, “How could you do this to me?! How could you throw me to them…?!” He went on with his rant but her focus was on the monster who had recoil

When they were right at the boundary of the Palace, Laylin noticed the hole they had escaped from was cemented and her heart skipped a beat. Her vision blurred for a second before returning. “No! No! Why is it here?!” She hysterically banged on the wall. Rurik parted his lips in astonishment, he was the one who had supervised the reconstruction of this wall. It had broken down by heavy rain but he thought better than to tell this nutcase PRincess that. Who knew if she would launch on him? Though he did wonder how she knew the escape route so well. She had most likely had been through this escape route before. He could only speculate with who. “...What are we going to do now?” He asked but like always, she treated him like air. Feeling his muscles ache, he pulled down their King carefully. Ambrose must have done it after he took her here in case she tried to escape. Her heart beat erratically as a commotion nearby drew closer. She looked up but the wall was too high to climb… but s

“You can call me Esmer, Esmer of Ehan.” Laylin's eyes snapped up at her in surprise. The witch was insanely powerful, much more powerful than Berilla so she wasn't surprised that she wasn’t a resident of Rakhbar but Ehan wasn’t a witch-friendly place either. Rurik too looked pointedly at the Princess of Ehan. Laylin too decided to imply. Her foot was pricked by something on the rough path. “Did you happen to see me in Ehan? I noticed you knew us already. If it isn’t much to ask, can you elaborate on how you were so quick to recognize that we needed your help?" She inspected her sore foot and waited for the witch's answer. The witch was a suspicious character. They walked the roughly paved path. Laylin could see the silhouette of the hut already. “I live in a village nearby. Words travel fast, beside you don’t look like a Rakhbari at all.” Snorting, Laylin turned to give her another look, “You don’t look the part of a Rakhbar citizen either, in fact, you don’t look like you

“No way.” Esmer was taken aback and her hands trembled in disbelief. “He really marked you.” Rurik also stepped forward, eyes filled with disbelief as he looked on. How could it make sense? The King had marked a human, a witch to be exact but he doubted the King knew beforehand that the Princess of Ehan was a witch. “Damn!” As he blinked in disbelief, he realized that the death of the King would trigger the Princess to go berserk. “Now it makes sense.” Princess Laylin appeared confused as she posed her question. “… What marked?” She knew what a chosen mark of beasts was but it didn’t make sense that she was marked by him. Her eyes lost focus as she tried to remember any instance. Esmer gently shook her to grab her attention. “Do you remember him biting you here?” Laylin frowned, wrinkling her forehead. “…There was this dream, and when I was sleepy.” Both slumped back in resignation. Obviously, he did so when she was barely conscious. “Darn it that sly mutt! If he dies now, you

When we are on the subject, what did you mean by the witches have returned back and how do you know it?” “The Foretold came true.” the witch murmured, her face bleached in sorrow. “The Sarsang Tribe will be discussing how they are going to proceed from there. They must be looking for ways to close the gates to the other world. Witches naturally attract demonic entities so they will likely be the first to feel threatened.” Laylin stilled, her strange dreams came to mind. “…Foretold?” Esmer stared at the Princess for a while before sighing, “You were to die today with your husband. A new destiny began. Though nothing about Foretold is realistic. It's like a seer's prediction." "Witches have known about the Foretold for far longer than humans or beasts. A popular one is, Foretold could only come true if fate was cheated. Fate can only be cheated by something unnatural that break

Outside the makeshift hut, a small table was placed and both, the witch and the soldier, sat there. One of them tended to vegetables while the other sharpened axes. He had stopped in front of a tree. He was planning to cut it for firewood. Thankfully there was an axe that was functional. Stretching a limb overhead as he loosened his limbs up from all the standing, he began. 'CHOP!' 'CHOP!' 'CHOP!' Wiping his sweat, he watched the witch sitting in the corner solemnly, having a leisurely afternoon. It didn’t even feel like they were on the run but apparently, these witches were something else. They should be planning an escape from here but here they were waiting for the King to open his eyes. Last night he had come out for a walk and seen several soldiers. He thought he had been caught but they walked away as if they hadn’t seen him. Apparently, till you stay inside the witch's shield the outsider only sees a big creek. This relaxed aura in the hut, a different cry from the chao

But shock registered when they met the eyes of the person standing where the wall once stood. “I see. I almost missed all the fun.” There stood Princess Laylin scowling at her torn dress getting wet and an equally pissed woman behind her. “Did you really have to go this far? How am I going to walk around in this now!” Valerie was about ready to knock this stupid Princess out. Every man on the ground, thanks to the knee-high water flooding the palace, was shocked at the carefree women barging in as if they were taking a stroll in the garden. Ivan’s eyes widened. ‘That foolish Princess was here, in the middle of a battle! The King was right out of the door. If she dropped dead here, they wouldn’t b

She kept her hand on her belly and smiled solemnly. He was a piece of her and her husband. An heir to her lover. “Ahh.. To be young. Though I don’t really like the man, I certainly despise him less than your mother does. I’m not much of a success as a Red Witch so I have no such obsession with bloodlines or species. I just care for my family.” Laylin bit her bottom lip, shrugging. “Mother is... She will come around.” “Hmm, hope so. But I see... you look madly in love.” Berilla teased, looking at her distracted expression. "It must hurt your pride to love him more than he loves you." “What? No!” Laylin rolled her eyes, her smile still playing on her lips. “He’s the one who is chasing me. I just set my grace on my eager lover.“ She was flexing when both of them knew, Laylin was crazy enough in love to dive head-first in a war zone or in front of a raging monster. Laylin looked away. Her smile deepened. She did love him more but it didn't matter as long as he loved her back. A silen

The palace stood tall and imposing, its marble columns reaching the sky. It had been days since the rightful King had set foot in the home he despised and lived for.But now, with a burning sense of urgency in his heart, he returned to reclaim his throne. Laylin was expecting, he could feel his spawn growing stronger by the day. ‘SHIIINGG!’He walked solemnly, his two long swords dragging behind him. Electric zapping brutally filled the silence as his swords screeched.Previously when he had imagined her carrying his heir, he had wanted to keep her on feathery cushions day in and day out, lavish her with jewels but now he wanted to kiss her the path she walked on.He had no patience left for morons. His Queen was carrying the future King and she deserved better than a humid cave.As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden hue over the palace walls, Ambrose stood lonely at the grand entrance. The military he had himself cultivated stood before him, pointing trembling spears

"N-No, please!” The startled young witch screamed and poured her aura in with all her strength as her life flashed before her. ‘FWISSSH…’ The witch toppled back on her ass, waiting to die but as the creature collided with the magic circle it emitted a bright, blinding light. The monster's movements slow, and it gradually, in a fraction of a second, evaporated in the air. It became quiet and all the witches huffed in disbelief, as if under a spell. “Good work.” Laylin turned to the witches with a smile. “This is how any witch, weak or strong, can make the teleportation magic circle.” She clapped her hands, “Well, nobody’s dead, so let’s go under the lake.” It may sound twisted but she enjoyed their fear especially Valerie who was pale. She felt gleefully satisfied. Now, sure, no one will question her about the potency of her magic circle. She felt bad for Eloise but it couldn’t be helped, she was the weakest witch and thus the perfect person to show them the spell worked. Seizing

With a deep sigh, she went to the young Princess. “You think you can handle it after all the… commotion?” She was talking about the things she heard them talk about. The Eldest of the Red Witches looked at the Princess with a faint smile. Laylin remained still. Her countenance was quite ample as she looked ahead at the lake in front of her.Ultimately it didn’t matter if Laylin could or couldn’t. She will have to. For the sake of everyone. For the future.Valerie sighed, “We can do it ourselves too.” Laylin knew it too.The witches could very well pull off a teleportation spell but they didn’t trust her or the magic circle she had drawn especially after Aunt Berilla couldn’t perform the designation spell. The battle with demonic monsters will take more than just technique, hesitation could cost these witches their lives.Only Laylin knew Berila couldn't do it because the Great Mistress had made that spell to pull her into the memory abyss. So the witches needed to believe any of them

‘AAACK!' She pointed the dagger at him and flicked it down. His leg bent at an unnatural angle, his bone stuck out bringing him into a half-kneeling position. “Keep it down. I don’t want a commotion.” She was so calm that it was creepy. Her lazy eyes fell on the Dark Wizard and she smirked. The Dark Wizard tried to cast a spell but nothing worked, he couldn’t take anything as the source. The Dark Wizard had little to no aura or couldn’t control their auras like Valerie. There are two sources for using magic. One is auras that are taken from nature and one is life sources. Dark magicians fuel their magic with life forces which means they kill to do magic. But it doesn’t have to be beasts or humans, depending on the magnitude of the spell even insects can be used for simple spells. She had protected every living being with her aura in the perimeter. Her snake rubbed its head against her neck, and she caressed its scales with a smirk. She enjoyed the Dark wizard's desperate attempts
