Venessa's POV
It was a long flight but soon the plane touched down at Texas airport. It was bustling with people. I took in the new smells of the place. This was going to be my new home. I got down from the plane and walked into the receiving point. People were out with cards to welcome their friends and loved ones but I was alone in this cruel cold world. There was no one to love or welcome me.
I hired a taxi and headed to a cheap hotel. There was no way I could buy a house with the little money I had on me. I needed to work in order to afford a place for myself and my child. I rubbed my tummy to comfort my growing baby. I was going to do everything I could for him or her.
The hotel was fairly comfortable and I had some space to think about what had happened to me so far. I held my head in my hands and images of the garden came flooding back to me. My heart ached in sorrow and betrayal. I had loved a monster but he didn't even give a damn about me. What kind of life had I been living? The moans if the lady with him filled my ears and I closed my ears with my palms in a futile attempt to block them out. My head was literally spinning and I thought I would throw up. Immediately ran to the bathroom and washed my face with cool water. I looked at my reflection and saw that my eyes were swollen and miserable. I was a complete mess. It felt like it was only just yesterday that I had spruced myself up, looking forward to a romantic dinner with my mate. I was a fool to believe that he would ever see me that way. And the thought of them getting rid of me so they could have my baby was disheartening. No one was goyto raise my child. It was going to do it myself with all the love and care in my heart.
I exhaled and dropped my head sadly. My heart was on the verge of shattering but a few fragile strings were still holding it in place. I had to be strong for my baby. I couldn't let him go through the stress I was going through. He was going to have it better in life. I went back to my room and recounted the money I had. It was enough for a few nights in the hotel and for some food. I would use the spare time I had to find a job. It might not be good paying but at least it would give me enough money to keep me off the streets and probably, I could find free accomodation.
I lay on the bed and stared at the plain ceiling. I was starting a new phase of my life. I had always dreamed of being free but now that I was free, it felt strange and foreign. I was so used to having Rogan yell at me and now, not hearing his voice was different and the silence was chilling. One would expect me to get a goodnights sleep but sleep was far from me.

Alpha Rogan's POV
I was nervous. Never have I been under such pressure. How come I didn't know that Venessa was my mate? How long had she known? I was probably why she was so kind and loving to me though I treated her like trash. My heart sunk in my chest. I wanted her. The longing was so strong because of the mate bond. I stayed awake looking at the sky hoping it would reveal some mysterious sign to tell me where she was. My countenance bothered Jaycee. She was not having any of it.
"I thought you said that you didn't love her? That she was–what did you call it–a contracted wife. Why are you suddenly all over her?"
I was angry and lashed out against her. I was her Alpha so she dared not to resist me.
"Don't you ever even think of calling her a contract wife again. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes My Alpha," she said trembling with a low bow. She had never seen me this angry before. Immediately, I dismissed her and was finally left alone with my thoughts in my room again.
"Venessa," was all I could mutter to myself. She was my mate and was carrying my flesh and blood. As much as a mate was wanted, I needed an heir. I needed a son to take over my legacy and if it was a girl, she would become the most feared female leader and warrior of the pack but sadly, none of that could happen unless Venessa was found. I looked at my empty bed. It was going to be cold for the night. I closed my eyes and I realized that I yearned to have Venessa in bed with me. Maybe I didn't admit it before, but she was much sweeter that Jaycee and I hadn't been able to explain why for a long time. I thought it was just how I probably felt but now I knew that it was more than that. No, I had to find her. I couldn't let her go. A mate, a worthy Luna was vital to every pack and mine wasn't going to be left out.
Soon I heard a knock on my door. I yelled a harsh 'come in' and a servant holding a dinner tray came in.
"My Alpha, your dinner is served."
"Put it on the table over there."
The servant meekly obeyed and dropping the hot, steamy food on the table. He bowed to me and then left. My chef was a wonderful cook and always out did himself when it came to my meals. But my mind was so troubled that not even the tempting aroma of the food could lift my spirits. The only thing that could cheer me up was if Venessa could magically reappear in my presence. There was so much I needed to make right with her. She had truly suffered in my hands. Even I couldn't blame her for wanting to run away.
Venessa's POVI woke up and looked around my hotel room. It felt different waking up in a place that wasn't my mate's home after so long. I turned my head to the window. The sun hadn't yet risen. I looked at the clock in my room, it was barely past 3am. I lay awake thinking. Had I gotten far enough from my mate? What if I didn't find a good job here? What if my baby and I died?"No Venessa! Don't think such thoughts," I told myself. I got up and headed to the sink. I turned on the tap but there was no water. I tried the shower but the same thing was the case. I sighed exasperatedly. I tried to call room service but the landline was disconnected.Great! First day in Texas and everything was already going so well. I saw the blue light reflect in her eyes and I saw the reflection of a game in them. She was playing solitaire. It took a cough from me before she could not
Alpha Rogan's POVI sat down in my throne room sadly. It had been almost three days since Venessa's disappearance. I was depressed. I had refused to eat and soon Belinda came into the room. I didn't even raise my head to acknowledge her presence."Why are you still sulking my Lord?""Go away."But she didn't move. She stood where she was looking at me with a scowl on her face."You know, she might be dead. You need to move on.""Belinda, I said, Go. Away."I wasn't in the mood to entertain her small talk."Why do you suddenly care? I thought you hated her. Now that she is gone, just like you've always wanted, your now looking miserable like a wet cat. What–at the last minute–made her so special?""You won't understand."I felt the anger in me rise. I had just wanted to be alone and now Belinda was here asking me questions that I was certainly in no good mood to answer."Understand what? That you are now in love with a slave girl?""Don't you dare call her a slave girl!"My anger escap
Venessa's POV I cried and soon I heard a scratching noise. I raised up my head in surprise and looked around. The sun was out and I could see my prison quite well now. The sound came again and I turned my head to the far right of the dungeon. It was a rat trying to scale the wall. It was injured but was trying to escape the hell hole it was in. I watched it and was inspired to get myself out of this disgusting place. I wasn't going to die in a dark, damp cell with my baby. I looked around me but all I saw was the bone that lay in the corner. It was all I had. I picked it up and banged the cage with it but my efforts were futile. It was locked. I looked at the padlock and put one and two together. I hit the bone in the floor and it broke into many sharp pieces. I scrambled to the floor looking for one of perfect size; then I found it. I picked it up and examined it and looked at the lock. I had lived with my cruel dad for a while and picking locks and escaping the locked rooms h
Venessa's POVI looked at the handsome Alpha as he introduced himself. He had beautiful eyes."Well Alpha Kristen, I am Venessa. Venessa Bryant. He looked at me and proceeded to walk around me slowly. "Why are you here?""I told you my name, didn't I? Isn't that enough for you?"He exhaled in frustration. I was really giving him a tough time. "Need I remind you that you are in my territory."I exhaled. He was right. I was kind of trespassing but I was still angry about the whole being 'thrown in jail' thing."I left my pack to search for greener pastures.""So the pastures in your pack aren't green enough?" he said with a smirk. Was he trying to mock me?"I had been abused so left my pack to escape fromy abuser and find my feet somewhere else and start afresh."He stopped circling me."What pack are you from?"I looked at him angrily."I've told you the most important parts of what I need to tell you. What pack I am from should not be of any concern to you."He looked at me but I wa
Alpha Kristen's POVI hurriedly had my bath and proceeded to the dinning room for breakfast. I didn't want my 'guest' to be the one waiting for me. It was 9:30am when I got to the dinning table and as I sat down, my eyes locked with a beautiful figure."Nice of you to come so early, Alpha Kristen."It was Venessa. By some kind of magic, she had come so early to the table. I was pleasantly surprised and smiled. The servants brought the food and soon we began to eat. I stole glances at her as we ate in silence. She wasn't a dainty eater but she didn't eat like a pig either. Her bites were lady-like and she ate to her fill."Were you royalty by some chance?" I asked as we ate in silence. She looked at me and put her fork and knife down. Before she spoke, she swallowed the food that was in her mouth."I was told, it was rude to talk while eating."I couldn't help but smile at her humour and sarcasm. Chapter 14Alpha Kristen's POVThe boring meeting with the council finally came to an end. It was the worst one I had ever gone to. The head of the council was worried about nothing very serious in particular. Just a couple of hearsays here and there. Old people's ears were always sharp to catch rumors. As the council dismissed, I called back Don De la Vega."My Alpha," he said with a deep bow."De la Vega. You made some very good points during the meeting."De la Vega smiled. "I thank you for your kind words, Alpha Kristen, but I'm very sure that you, My Lord, were not paying much attention. I know that you hate when the council calls for a meeting. So I guess it is safe to presume that there is something else that you would like to talk to me about."I smiled back at De la Vega."You know me too well. Yes there is something I'd like to discuss with you. Do have a seat."We sat back down at the round table and De la Vega looked at me seriously. Anytime there was something to discuss
