Joana's POV
“Ma'am, Ma'am,” The lawyer tapped me, pulling me out of my endless thoughts. “Yes, did you say something?” I asked with my tear-filled eyes. “We wanted to know if you would like to sign first or we should proceed to the Alpha to receive his signature,” He answered. Realization hit me that I was still at my father's funeral. We had just finished burying him, and I was sitting by the staircase after they finished reading his will. “Does it matter? Give him to sign,” “But ma'am, we can't find him,” The lawyers said with a confused expression. The truth was that I was too tired to think about anything else. I knew my father's death wasn't an accident, and I intended to prove it. I wanted Dire to pay. “Send it to his beta, he will do the proper procedure,” I muttered as I stood from my seat and walked to Sasha who was sobbing terribly by the sofa. “Are you okay?” I asked softly, barely whispering. I couldn't find my voice, I seemed to have lost all my strength. “Yes. Are you?” There was no response for her question. How can I say no? I left him for five years, and the moment I brought my cursed ass back to his life, he died. I looked out the window, and I saw Lucien venting his anger on a tree with an axe. It's a technique my dad taught us. He claimed a person shouldn't pour his anger or frustration on his fellow but instead work his muscles until they were tired. “Did Dire come?” I asked, staring at every corner for any sign of him. “He did but he headed out some moments ago. Didn't you guys come here together?” “No, I had been sleeping here in the mansion,” I replied with a forced smile but I knew Sasha could see right through me. We turned to Lucien, who walked in, sweating profusely. “ There are some people who would like to see you in the dinning chambers,” He voiced, panting heavily. “I would hug you, but you reek,” Sasha said to him, causing a smile to appear on our faces. I left them and went into the dinning chambers. I walked in, and I was met with devious and fierce gazes. I recognized the men. They were part of my father's stockbrokers. “Can I help you?” I asked. “We are here to help you girl, so sit,” One of them instructed. His words made my stomach boil like steaming water. I was done with collecting orders from men and being bossed around. “Excuse me? I asked a question that has not been answered properly. You are in my house and I won't be told when to sit like a dog,” I didn't know what I said that triggered their amusement but they all burst into laughter. Their eyes almost popping out as they laughed heartily. “You think you have a sudden right to everything, just because your father died?” The biggest of them asked as the rest cussed and joked. “I don't understand,” “What he is saying is you can't lead. We prefer skinny Lucien to you. If you think we will let a barbie girl lead our organization to the ground, you must be sorely mistaken,” He replied with a smile and his mouth stuffed with food. His black clothes had food stains at every point making my disgust for him even way more intense. “So, you want me to lay back as you guys run the shot? Is that what you want?” “Oh yes. I almost thought you were dumb,” the big looking one replied again. Clearly, he was the one in charge of the weird coup they were trying to enact. “Ah! I know you!” I exclaimed with a smirk and a loud voice. “You are those peasants who take advantage of gullible CEOs. And you just thought you had just seen your biggest dummy. A girl forced into marriage and away for years.Perfect?” “We don't have time for this Thorson. You listen carefully, you run decisions through us f…” “Shut your stupid fat mouth!” I cussed angrily with a fierce look, cutting him short before he could finish the garbage he planned on vomiting. At that moment, I felt like plucking out his balls because they had no use other than to diminish the power of the female community. He had been gawking and staring at my boobs all through our conversations. “What did you just call me?” He asked in shock. “You might be a Thorson but you are not vulnerable,” I took a look at him and I decided to calm my temper. I won't disrespect my father's name because a couple of lowlife didn't know their place. “Get out,” I said. “What did you say little gir…” “Get the fuck put of my house!” I growled at him . “Can you repeat that?” He and his crew jested and burst into laughter. Suddenly their laughter stopped as they stared behind me with fright. Their jaws dropped, face flustered. “I can repeat it,” Dire said with a smile as he stepped into the room. His presence changed the tension of the room. They all stood to their feet as soon as he walked in. “My wife wants each and everyone of you to get out of her house,” “Alpha Dire! My name is Luca Fern…” “I don't care,” Dire spoke softly with a deep clear voice. “You all are dismissed from the building. Theo, see them out,” His beta stepped into the room with a sword in his hand and everyone in the room cleared out instantly. It was just the two of us. “Are you okay?” He asked with his hand behind his back. He appeared so calm and gentle but I knew he was far from innocent. “Thanks for coming,” I muttered swiftly and walked past him. “You should be cooperative, wife. After all, we will be sharing everything henceforth. Why the tension?” I had no response, instead I continued walking till i got to the front yard. There I stood and watched him step into his car and drive off. “Ma'am, there is a letter for you,” one of my workers approached me. I received it and it had the Armstrong's seal. I wondered if it was from him because why should it be, we had just spoke. I broke the seal and it read, ‘ See you at home wife.’ He wanted me to return to his mansion that day. The audacity, he didn't even have the courtesy to tell me to my face. Was I terrified? Yes. Was I going to obey? Over my dead body!Joana’s POVPeople who had lost someone talk of a silence after the funeral. Where they feel a cold silence when the guests returned home after the funeral party. I felt the cold silence during the party and I felt like death after. I could hear nothing but my own ragged breathing. Tyler and Sasha were helping the workers for the clean up while I locked myself up in my room. A room that felt nothing like mine because of how empty it was. “Ma'am,” someone knocked on my door. “Who is…” I wanted to ask but there was no strength in me to speak..I seemed to have lost my way to speech. I opened the door and it was my house manager. She looked moody and sad when she stared at me. “Hi Naomi,” I muttered softly. “Young mistress, how are you?” She asked with a smile but anyone with vision could see the tears welling up in her eyes. “I am fine Naomi. I just needed some quiet to myself,” I replied. “I need to talk to you,” She started softly, gently rubbing the back of her head nervously
Joana's POVI stood in front of Dire, my heart racing. This wasn’t just strange, it was straight-up abduction. But the way he acted, the smile he gave, and the casual gestures, it was as if he didn’t think anything was wrong. Or worse, he knew something I didn’t. His authority was unquestionable, yet he masked it under a layer of disturbing niceness. It was unsettling. I had to get out. “I want to leave.” I said, forcing a smile. I tried to keep my voice steady, trying not to let him see how terrified I really was. Dire raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a smile as if I had just made an amusing request. “Of course, wife. You may leave whenever you want.” He said smoothly. “But do make sure you’re back by nine. You wouldn’t want to miss our evening together, now, would you?” The way he said "wife" sent a shiver down my spine. His tone was too casual, too calm, and it only made the fear inside me grow. I wanted to snap at him, to lash out, but I couldn’t. Not yet. The fea
Joana's POVCold, that would be the word used to describe how I felt. I slowed down my breathing to control my anxiety as I clenched on to the documents in my hand. I could hear them murmuring, whispering and laughing maniacally. They were all in the room, the whole family. “Good evening,” I muttered with a smile as I walked into the room. Suddenly the chattering stopped and they all turned to me with a sinister stare. They didn't even try to hide the hate and anger in their gaze. “What is it?” My husband, Alpha Finn asked. “It better be good. As you can see, I am having a fun time,” He added as he slowly wrapped his hand around a strange lady's waist. I recognized her scent, her fragrance rather. It had been coming off Finn anytime he claimed he went for a business trip. “How do you stand this wrench, brother?” My brother in-law Josiah asked with a sneer. “I have told him countless times. This lady can't be an Alpha’s wife but he wouldn't listen,” His wrinkled mother said with
Joana's POVI had to stay back a few days to conclude the divorce process. And damn, it was the best days of my life. Finally, it was time to head home. I had missed my pack, the scent of cold wind as you drove through 53rd Avenue, the laughter, the coffee. It was amazing. “Ma'am, where are you getting off?” The driver asked as he approached my father's company. “Just drop me at the parking lot. I will make my way from there,” I responded with a smile as I watched workers walking in every direction. Thorson Infrastructure was the number one company in Genesis, infact in the entire Western hemisphere. “Please take my luggage to the mansion. Inform the steward of my return,” I instructed the driver as I alighted the car. “Ofcourse Miss Joana. And welcome home,” The driver remarked with a warm smile before driving off. Nervous? Yes, I was terrified. I had no idea how I was going to be welcomed after leaving home for years without contact. Whispers and stares followed me as I walk
Joana's POV “You knew. From when I walked in,you knew my father had planned all this out,” I broke the awkward silence between Lucien and I. He came to pick me up and was taking me to the Armstrong's company. “It wasn't my place to tell you and besides I didn't want to ruin the surprise,” He replied. “It was more of a shock than a surprise. I am to marry a man I know nothing of,” “Wasn't that what you did when you got married to a scum? Joana, stop making it seem like it's a bad thing,” Lucien said as he pulled over in front of the Alpha’s company. “Not a bad thing? I came here to take over what's mine, not to be handed to be someone else's,” I grunted as I stepped out of the car with a fierce look on my face. “You will correct that annoying grin on your face and make yourself look presentable,” “I won't be forced into doing something for a man. I can't be controlled and I won't be,” I responded angrily and proceeded into the company. The Zion Gold company had belonge
Joana's POVI couldn't sleep, my eyes were wide open all through the night. Every sound rattled me because somehow I felt I was being watched in the quiet but massive bedroom. “Is this what my life will be ?” I thought outloud. Suddenly my phone buzzed, drifting me out of my thoughts. I turned to it and it was a text, from an old friend of mine. A friend I spent the first half of my lfive years trying to forget and get past because I knew my absence would hurt her more than anyone else. She was like a sister to me,She wanted to meet up for coffee that morning, so I responded with a time and place. It was already six, so I showered and cleaned up. I laid down waiting for it to clock ten. Time became deviously slow. It felt like forever and as soon as it was time, I wasted no second before leaving the room. I signaled to one of the staff who had the driver tag on his uniform. “You are a driver right?” “Yes ma'am.” He replied with a smile. “Okay good. You are now my driver,” “Sor
