I kept all my thoughts in my head as a compensation to myself for my pains.

"No specific reason but we've sent sources out to find out why."

Then he got up "I didn't give that order. Do you want them to see us as weak ? If they actually cease supplying us with food, we plan an attack and force them to submission."

How stupid could this guy be? What was starting a war against many packs going to do to us.

We were strong and no one could beat us but for how long could we force them into submission?

I wasn't sure how long I could act like a respectful Beta around him so I nodded after saying "When the sources return, I'd tell them about your decision Alpha."

The word Alpha came out more as a sarcastic comment and I think he noticed cause he glared at me as I walked out. I could feel his eyes piercing the back of my head.

As I left the room, I prayed to the moon goddess to return Dorian to us. It was going to be hell without him. All of us knew.

I walked down to my room, I saw a maid cl

I shook my head, clearing the cobwebs. I must have been hallucinating. I was just stressed out because of that encounter with Bolton and Arachne, that's all.I took a deep breath, attempting to calm myself down. I needed to focus on the task at hand: finding out what Arachne wanted.I walked out of my room, determined to put the strange encounter behind me. But as I walked down the hallway, I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off.I decided to distract myself by actually going for a run. Perhaps the fresh air would clear my head.My senses went alive running through the forest: the wind in my hair, the sun on my face, the birds chirping among the leaves. But even as I ran, the feeling that I was being watched refused to be shaken. I turned over my shoulder, but no one was there.I quickened my pace, my heart racing in my chest, then heard a rustling in the bushes ahead of me.I slowed my pace as my senses went into overdrive. Then I saw her. Arachne. Standing right in

I watched the Kyrexi fall, who never even stood a chance against the masses and ferocity of the werewolves with all their magical and technological power. I had watched the defeat and devastation of the Kyrexi-entire civilization in ruins.Arachne's voice cut through my visions, her eyes aglow with excitement. "You see, Derek," she said, "you are the last of the Kyrexi, the son of the ancient ones. And you have a destiny to fulfill."Confusion and agitation reeled inside of me. A Kyrexi? Me? I had lived my entire life as a werewolf, and now suddenly I was something completely different?Arachne's smile broadened. "The ancient ones were all-powerful, magical beings," she said. "They were known to be the race of beings that had with them the powers of controlling elements and wielding magic. They were the rulers of this land and the werewolves their servants."I listened with horror as Arachne kept telling me, "But soon, time after time, the werewolves took their being uncomfortable wit

Just when I thought all was lost, I heard a loud roar echoing through the forest. The werewolves hesitated, their ears perked up in surprise. And then, a massive grizzly bear emerged from the trees, its eyes fixed on the werewolves. The werewolves all yelped at once as the bear charged them. I used the distraction to make a run for it, darting for the trees as the bear swiped at the werewolves.I could hear the snarling and growling behind me, but I dared not look back. I kept running, my heart pounding within me, until I was sure I left werewolves and bear in the dust. Finally, I slowed down to catch my breath and looked around to get my bearing. Tall trees seemed to stretch up to the sky, and I knew I was deep in the forest.I took a deep breath, trying to breathe calmly. I was going to have to keep a clear head if I was going to survive this.I listened as, suddenly, the bushes rustled. I turned to see the bear emerge from the trees, its eyes fixed on me.But then he did not attack

The poor girl swallowed hard before continuing. "His friend mentioned that Arachne was a witch. I thought you should know, sir."I lifted one eyebrow, my interest piqued. "You're telling me this because?"The little maid ducked her head; her tone turned sheepish. "I just want to make sure our Alpha's in good hands, sir."I growled low in my throat as warning. I wasn't sure if the little maid was a spy for Derek or if she was really worried for the pack."Why did you decide to tell me?" I asked, my eyes boring into hers. The maid finally looked up, her eyes locking onto mine. And then, she did something that left me dumbfounded. She burst into tears; her small body shook with every labored breath. I watched her, taken aback by her sudden outburst. I hadn't expected her to break down like that."S-since -since he became Alpha." she stuttered out, her voice shaking in fear. "The pack -it's been falling apart. I sighed. This guy just won't let me go. "What exactly do you want?" I asked tired of playing games."I want the truth."he replied curtly."I'm just a maid trying to get a roof over her head but you keep making it difficult for me." I replied with the same old answer I had prepared for situations like this."You don't fool me. Now speak"I thought carefully, if I speak the complete truth, would he rat me out? Then it occured to me at that very moment, that I'd sound crazy if I did. So I asked unfazed"What exactly do you want to know?""What's the relationship between you and the Beta?" His gaze was fierce and the glow of his eyes showed he wasn't backing down so easily."Nothing, he tried to touch me inappropriately and I warned him not to do so." At least, if I told him this, he would think I was the victim and spare me the skepticism. But oh, how wrong I was. My response only led him to question who I really was."You warned him? I thought long and hard. I didn't come in contact with chestnuts today. Then I remembered something, that sneaky fogwart. I cursed inwardly, I should've given her a dirty slap but I was still confused, why chestnuts? I tied them all in a nylon, making sure to empty my pockets completely. I even put two small tangerines I saw on the table in my pockets to eradite the smell of chestnuts.I was going to show her what it meant crossing the path of someone who had faced death twice. As I got to the dining hall, I spotted her and rushed over pretending not to see her "Sorry, I was just in a hurry to find out what was happening."She sneered and rushed to Gina's side.Apparently, Gina couldn't breath. She looked bloated like a pufferfish but her face was covered with large red spots. The make up on her face made it less scary but I could still see them. Everyone was in a frenzy but soon the doctor had arrived, administering an injection that instinctively calmed her.It didn't take ten minut

But little did I know, my troubles were far from over.I walked back to my quarters, feeling like someone was watching me. I quickened my pace, my heart racing in anticipation. Then I heard footsteps behind me. I spun around, ready to defend myself, but it was just one of the pack's guards."Aurora, the Alpha requests your presence," he said, his voice firm but polite.I nodded, and curiosity overtook me: what could the Alpha want with me now? I followed the guard to the Alpha's chambers, my mind going through many possibilities. When we arrived, the Alpha was behind his desk, a stern look upon his face. "Aurora, I have been made aware of the incident with Lucinda and the Luna," he said in firm tones but then his expression softened. "I must say, I am impressed. The smile fell from the Alpha's face, replaced by a gaze of steel. "Then you will find yourself in a very unfortunate position. I don't like loose ends, Aurora."I swallowed hard. There was no way out of this, not right now. If I refused him outright, I wouldn't make it out of this room alive. But if I agreed, I would be walking a tightrope with no safety net. But what happened to the Cida that looked like he recognized me? I was so lost right now."I will need time to think over it," I finally said confidently, though fear was gnawing at my insides. The Alpha nodded with a tinge of satisfaction in his eyes. "Fair enough. But don't take too long. Time is a luxury you can't afford."He waved his hand, dismissing me, and I wasted no time leaving his chambers. Out of sight, I leaned against the wall and took some deep breaths, willing my heart rate to settle. She came as a ghost, her step as silent as breathing, her presence cold that seemed to penetrate to the very heart of his pack. She stood before him, her eyes bottomless black as always, her lips as cold as ice."You owe me, Thane," she whispered, her voice sweetly tinged with threat. "And this day's payment."Thane's ground fell away beneath him. All that it had cost him those years of running, that effort to remain one step ahead of his devils, had been for nothing. He had seen today on the horizon, but there before him, weighed down by the burdens of his conditioned responses, a strangling sense of despair struck him.He looked at his pack, whose faces he vowed to protect, and knew he could no longer flee. He had to go back to Arachne, and face the wrath of what he had done, however repulsive. "As you will," he breathed out, his voice slick and unfaltering. The grin of Arachne spread wider, her hunt gleam eyes burning hotter."Oh, Thane," she breathed softly, her voice silky as poi

Bermont’s throat had been ripped out, his body lying lifeless on his desk, his empty face blankly regarding the ceiling. And beside him, Lyanna, her elongated body twisted into an impossible shape, her beautiful face contorted into face of terror.Thane's stomach lurched. This wasn’t a clean kill. It was a massacre. The room was trashed, desecrated by gigantic claw marks bigger than what any wolf could have left and through his friend. Obscene symbols, painted red, thick black smudges, painted on the walls. It was an abomination of deformed, ritualistic butchery, painted to look like that of some horrific supernatural being.Backwards, his wolf started snarling in shock and horror, receding and receding until Thane backed away. Not this. This kind of killing was not what he had signed up for.He suddenly felt like he was being watched. From a corner he saw her. Arachne. She had emerged from the shadows, her hands and lower forearm smeared with freshly-shed blood. She glowed."You—" Th

Years Ago-The room in Bermont's study glimmered blackly with unwritten things, weighed down by pungent smell of burnt pine and acrid taste of bitterness. Bermont, a huge fat man, collapsed over his enormous wooden desk, his shadow falling on pieces of paper here and there. His wife, Lyanna, at the window, statue of coldness, her eyes over some point far away beyond frosted glass. The theatre of authority, its rough tactlessness."You know you can’t be Alpha, Thane," Bermont told him, his tone laced with thoughtless disdain of a man who was certain he was in charge. A pet, perhaps."The second half of that tense almost-snarl, cautious bite.Thane's fists were balled, fingernails pressing crescent moon shapes into palms. The reality struck me like a sledgehammer. I respected her, I looked up to her, and never ever admitted that I loved her, not even to myself. I was just too afraid, too occupied being the person I was supposed to be, too afraid to be rejected. But now that she was in danger, I could not play games anymore. I loved her, had loved her for years, and would do anything to win her back in one piece. There was a knock on the door, shattering me out of daydreaming. Greggory stood there, his face creased with concern."Alpha," he said, "we have a problem."My heart sank. "What?""We've been told by the border patrol," he explained. "Words are breath, Alpha. An oath of loyalty must… be flesh." I touched him, my hand tracing the harshest plane of his jaw, feeling the shuddering under his flesh. "Kneel, Alpha," I commanded, my tone falling to a silky pitch, but supported by adamant authority."Pledge yourself to me, here and now, before the ancient powers that lie in wait within this caravan."There was a flicker of defiance in his eyes, the lingering of his Alpha pride. But that was quickly overwhelmed, smothered by the crushing weight of his desperation. Reluctantly, he knelt down, slowly, his gaze still on mine, an internal battle unspoken."Repeat after me," I ordered, my voice low and rich, calling on the inner strength that coursed through me, generating a sense of drama around the event. "I, Killian of the Skyline Pack…"He echoed the words, his voice rasping, just audible, every syllable a concession, a fragment of his freedom surrendered."Promise my allegiance."He stood before me, the gravity of the word

Shakira's POVMy frantic investigation had turned out to be nothing but murky suggestions and dead ends. Ancient texts mentioned domination spells, psychic intrusions, everything apart from the inexplicable, mass damp that hung over Killian's pack.I really couldn’t admit that I knew nothing of what was happening. Not to Killian. My well-crafted reputation of an infamous witch demanded an aura of omniscience, of proficiency at the divine crossroads. To reveal my fallibility, would be to destroy the illusion, to jeopardize all that I had struggled for. And to lose Killian… that was something I was not going to allow to happen. My defense would be in deception. I would pretend to have a solution, to stall and keep Killian in my control, while I desperately searched for a real one, or… created one myself.I got up from my chair, the groaning old wood grumbling a welcome creak in the still caravan. I gazed about at the crowded shelves of jars, bottles, and desiccated herbs. Ingredients. I

Killian’s POVThe weight in my chest was more than crushing, it was overbearing. Every beat a leaden weight in my chest, every breath a struggle. Shakira's words haunted my quarters, taunting me. What did it even mean, to yield to another, to a witch with such a reputation as that? The very thought sent a shiver down my spine. And yet, the happenings in my pack flashed through my mind, the stunned horror and fear on their faces, the unearthly incantation of "Simon is Lord!" ringing in my ears. Dexter's sickening smile, insincere, repulsive, revolved through my thoughts like a record stuck on a groove. My pack was falling apart, family by family, and here I stood, contemplating and hesitating to submit to Shikira's request.Delaying was not going to cut it any longer. Her journey would be challenging, but giving up was not an option. The weight of a new life was heavy on Aurora, more heavily even than any material weight. She was the White Luna, a goddess reborn. Those words hung heavily in the empty garden, alone-an affront to all she had ever conditioned to understand about the world. She was an Omega, the lowest one to exist within the pack, born to take orders and not give them. This… this could not be. And yet, visions, power flowing through her veins, Selene's presence here-everything screamed for a truth she could not help but believe."Preparations?" she managed to croak with a throat parched and raspy. "For what?"Selene's visage became unbroken. "For war coming. The war you saw earlier. One to raze not your pack alone but all the packs. A war unlike any other."Her mind was a wild knot of possibilities. The rumors of the Thane of Redblood-whispers of another foe-it fit together all too sickly. This, however, was not a pack war; this was a war against something older and far more evil than anything imaginable. Survival war."But..but I am just myself," she stammered without faith in herself, helplessly waving her hands. "I know nothin
