Jade pov

"How many times do I have to tell you this, there is absolutely no way we're just going to send her out of this pack!" Jude yelled, banging his hand angrily on the desk in front of him.

I was pissed off too.

The elders were ranting nonsense, they were all biassed due to their fanatical way of life. Believing that their own cultural value is above every other thing.

"Keep your voice down when the council meeting is going on," father corrected but it only passed Jude off even more.

"Fuck the council! Do you guys hear yourself?" Jude rose to his feet and I did nothing to try and stop him, no one dared. "She fucking lost her memories and you’re here claiming she’s lying. Even if she was, do you have any sort of proof? So I’m supposed to agree with sending my mate out in the fucking wild. Remembering that we had already found her unconscious.”

“Settle down please,” George, Brenda’s father said hoping to actually call my brother down but that turned out bad.

"Brenda it's 7am," I grumbled but she continued to make her way to the curtains and she swung them open, making the early morning sun meet with my eyes. I groaned even more. "It's actually past nine and I don't know if you heard," she paused to look at me. "Heard what?" I asked, dumbfounded. "There's a general clean up today for the entire pack estate and both pack members and non members are compelled to do it. Unfortunately, I was assigned to baby sit you because those two numb nuts gave a good review of my last job with you," she sounded displeased but I knew she enjoyed my company. "So they don't let me step out to get my own food but will allow me to slave myself away?" I peered. "Yes, that is correct.""Right," I sighed, wondering what everyone would even think of me. "Besides, this is your chance to prove to everyone that you're not

Katherine pov All the noises were loud, yet the people were so far away. My head hurt and I couldn’t open my eyes or my mouth. I felt myself being lifted from the ground. “Katherine, please stay with me!”The screams did not help how my head hurt. Being lifted by other people helped me understand that even my entire body hurt. The place where the wolf had taken a chunk out of my flesh stung more than anything in life. It was all amplified and so much that I thought I felt even everyone’s emotion. “What happened?”“She fought the dead wolf.”I fought the dead wolf.“She’s badly injured too.”“That’s new, she should be healing by now.”These conversations went on over my head and I heard it all so clearly, it was hard to think I was imagining things or dreaming. I thought I would scream out and cry when someone gripped my arm grazed over the open wounded flesh. “Oh shit!”“What is it?”Yeah, what is it?“It’s wolfsbane.”That explained a lot now, didn’t it. Katheri povThe sound of people murmuring drove me out of my sleeping state. Squinting my eyes, I try to look at the blurry moving figures across the bed further. “What is going on?” I mumbled, shuffling around the bed and trying to sit upright. “Shit, we woke her up,” a familiar voice said. “Isn’t it a little too early to be this active in the morning?” I asked, scratching my eyes and finally being able to see Jude and Jade. “Boy am I glad you’re okay,” Jude sighed out. He always was the soft one who had the tendency of petting and spoiling anyone with care. I couldn’t help but smile at both of them. “Good morning,” my voice still remained like a mumble but I believed they heard me properly. “Finally,” Jade said out loud. He had his arms crossed and looked a little puzzled. I stared back at the both of them, wondering if I had done anything wrong in my sleep. “What happened?” I stuttered, removing the sheets from my body and trying to stand up on my feet. Katherine Pov Her eyes focused on me like she was trying to uncover a hidden truth. I managed to keep a straight, yet worried look but Luna didn't seem like she was buying it much. "You know the council decides what the Alpha says," she said, circling her finger around the edge of the cup she held on to."I figured," I said, still very clueless of what was going on. "You really don't remember anything about yourself? Because you're making my husband and I be at a tight spot here. It's harder to keep them calm every single day that passes," she sighed out, frustrated already. I almost felt bad, but my fear of betrayal still overshadowed my sympathy. I didn't care if they threw me out, all I wanted was to enact revenge and save my pack. My eyes turning red was most likely because my father died and I was the last alpha blood in the pack. It increased my obligation to rescue my people from the monster that they all suffered from since the coup.“I’m sorry for causing you and your fa

Katherine Pov"I got it!" I dashed back to where they were. The boy was still stuck in his form and position and I felt more pity for him when I realised that he would have to suffer a little wolfsbane as a child."What's your name?" I squatted in front of the little child."Sean," he replied, squeaking. "You know what wolfsbane is right?" I asked, not being able to bring myself into giving it to him without his permission. He nodded his head and I smiled."I do," Sean whispered."I'll have to inject it into your vein, along with some other medicine, the pain will only last for a few seconds," I paused to look at him with a reassuring smile. His eyes never left mine as he thought well about his next decision. We could always wait till he got really tired and turned back to human but no one knew how long it was going to take. He was a child, he was full of energy, so it could be hours before he wore off. And with the look of things, he still had no idea on how to control his wolf, mea

Katherine Pov"You know, I think I'm getting used to this your quarantine free days," Brenda said, breaking our silence. We were at a porch, across the pack house and enjoying the sunset. This time, I wasn't trying to escape, I was just enjoying the company beside me and how much she understood me. "I know, I'm the best," I chuckled and eventually we both stumbled into an impromptu laughter. "Tell me though," Brenda whispered as soon as the laughs died down. "You and your mates, how're things coming along with them? From my angle, it doesn't seem like the three of you acknowledge one another."I took a pause, contemplating on how to respond to her in a way that she might understand. "Well, I won't say I haven't acknowledged that we're mates. I just haven't accepted it yet and we're all willing to wait. You know, no rush," I shrugged, hoping she understood where I was coming from. I partly lied, the only and main reason I hadn't accepted them was because I was afraid of being hurt

Katherine pov "Do you ever wake up early?" I frowned at the voice that spoke."Leave me alone, it's still too early," I shuffled around my bed. I knew who the person was. Jade had been trying to wake me up for the past ten minutes but sleep was getting the best of me. Then the bed sheet that was cuddling my body close was pulled down from me and I whimpered as the cold atmosphere met my skin."Jade, will you please leave me alone?" I pouted, still refusing to open my eyes. I feared that if I did open it even for the slightest time, I was going to lose the sleep and nice dream I was having.I heard the curtains being dragged open but I didn't flinch until the brightness of the sun came in contact with my eyelids."Jade!" "Oh, it's morning already," I mumbled, putting the pillow over my head. "Yes and you need to get up," he urged me. "I will, I just need you to help me close that freaking window that is opened, it's so cold right now," I begged. Jade looked at me, turning his head to the side, to watch my moves. "Okay," he said slowly, then he walked down to the window and shut it closed. The wind stopped blowing right immediately, I muttered a thank you to him and he nodded, still watching me closely. Sniffing from the running nose I have had since last night, I walked down to the bathroom. I was nowhere near okay and it was not any better this morning. Jade had his suspicions but I could not afford to let him clarify it. He won't let me out of the house or room again. Turning on the steamer, I let the water steam

Epilogue Katherine Pov “You’re going to die with the child in your womb.”I stood stunned as Castro revealed the shocking news – I had a baby growing inside me, amidst the fierce fight raging between us. This discovery hit me like a thunderbolt, as it began to make sense of the mysterious waves of sickness I had been experiencing lately.I had never even thought about the possibility of being pregnant. My reduced sense of smell and sight had gone unnoticed, and not even I or anyone else had picked up on the signs. The realization that I carried a new life within me was both thrilling and worrying, a bittersweet discovery in the middle of our clash.I grappled with the conflicting emotions rushing through me. On one hand, the news of my pregnancy filled me with a sense of wonder and the promise of a new life. Yet, the timing could not have been worse, as I found myself locked in a high-stakes duel with my sworn enemy, Castro. How Castro had uncovered this information remained a myste

Katherine Pov “A holmgang?” Castro raised his brows, laughing out loud for a moment. “Is something amusing to you?” I glared daggers his way. “I refuse,” he shrugged. “You can’t, even the council knows that you cannot do that. If you do, the entire kingdom will by law be forced to turn against you and pick a new ruler by themselves. Your head will be cut off and as will mine but unlike you, both our deaths are a price I’m willing to pay,” I explained, knowing that the consequences were too brutal for him to reject. His gaze changed from a playful smile to a death glare at me. I had fearlessly challenged my sworn enemy to a fight to the death, leaving him with no option to refuse. The stakes were incredibly high, and the outcome would determine both our fates. In my heart, I firmly believed that only two possibilities awaited us: either I would lose my life, or Casto would suffer his ultimate defeat. If I were to fail in the fight, I acknowledged that I had no rightful claim to r

Katherine povSusie. My heart skipped a beat, and I swiftly turned around to locate the source of the sound. However, my joy quickly turned to concern as I noticed Susie's mother hastily covering her mouth with her hand, her eyes pleading with me to stay away. She shook her head and I could have sworn I saw tears cloud her eyes. So I stepped back, I stopped. Seeing Susie brought me a sense of relief, knowing that she was safe, but I couldn't ignore the fear that clouded the expressions of both mother and daughter. It sent shivers down my spine. In that moment, my disdain for Casto intensified. They had stripped these people of their freedom, confining them in a state of constant fear and oppression. The sight reinforced my determination to fight against the oppressive forces that had taken hold of our once vibrant and free community.I lived these few months in joy while my people suffered and even now that I had returned, I was helpless and they remained hopeless. JADE PovMy blood boiled with anger as I watched the council's woeful display of decision-making. I couldn't fathom how they could be so blind to the consequences of their actions. Standing there with my brother and Jasmine, I had to endure the painful ordeal of hearing the council members' proposition. They callously suggested that we should return Jasmine, tearing her away from our side, and take back Katherine in a misguided attempt to avoid war and mitigate further loss. The very idea left a bitter taste in my mouth. How could they believe that sacrificing one person for the sake of appeasement would bring any true resolution?I clenched my fists, feeling an overwhelming surge of indignation. The council's incompetence enraged me. They failed to see the bigger picture, the human cost of their decisions. They were willing to play with lives, treating them like pawns on a chessboard.Jasmine stood beside me, her eyes filled with apprehension and vulnerability. I couldn't bear the th

I felt a blossom inside me and wondered if this was what people referred to as butterflies in their bellies. However, I had no time to think about how Ethan made me feel. “Oh, apologies. We were too engrossed—”“They have her!” I remembered how much I was gasping for air from the shock and fear I got from panicking. “Katherine!”My words were broken down, but I believed they understood the message I was trying to give because right one cue, Jade and Jude dashed right past me, towards the direction of her room. Katherine povAfter what felt like hours, I finally reached the door. Stretching my hands out, I reached for the handle but instead of drawing closer, it drew farther away from me. Frey was the one who dragged me out of the nightmare, it felt like it went on for years. Something was not right but I could not pin point it. I could not even open my eyes fast enough because of how bad my head felt. Eventually, my surroundings started to come into view and it looked nothing like my room or anywhere in the pack house. It reeked of shit, literal poop and that was the first sense that hit me. My sense of smell. It was horse shit and it was disgusting. Unfortunately, I was covered in it and there was nothing I could do about it at the moment. I tried to move but I couldn’t, not just because

Katherine Pov7:39 pm…I was being watched and I could feel it at the bottom of my belly. No one was in sight but I knew something or someone was following me. Every once in a while, I would swiftly turn around but the sensation vanishes once I look towards the direction. The commotion from this morning had come to an end before it was even noon, everyone had gone back to their daily lives, and the victims were admitted to the hospital. To my surprise, the council had not called for my attention concerning Jasmine but I believed Jude and Jade had something to do with it. Once again, I abruptly turned on my heels, trying to catch the made-believe stalker by surprise but I still ended up with the same result. Nothing. “Are you okay?” Sonia questioned for the umpteenth time and I nodded in approval. It was going to raise false alarms if I had called attention to how I felt at the moment, especially because the entire territory was on its toes. She was due in about a week or earlier t

Plus she just vanished into thin air and by the time we all woke up this morning, people lost body parts. Permanently,” I retorted, mirroring his glare, disappointed that he was more worried about my whereabouts than the safety of the pack.
