"Mommy will never come to your castle!"

The small, loud voice instantly startled me and shook my heart. I reflexively turned my head quickly to the origin of the voice, and I saw a boy of about 3 years old standing with a young woman holding his hand.

For a few moments, I could only stand transfixed. My eyes were wide open, and my whole body felt as if it was frozen into immobility at that moment.
