ISABELLE’S POV
“You think you belong here?” one of the women at the head of the circle sneered. “With such an ugly dress? Did you sew it yourself?”
The circle erupted in laughter. “Honestly, the audacity of some ugly paupers to show up to the palace New Year banquet in nothing but rags.”
My blood boiled as I watched the scene unfold.
My attention remained fixed on the group gathered near the bushes. At their centre stood a tall slender woman, with dark luscious hair, her voice sharp as she mocked a plainly dressed girl clutching a necklace.
“You dare bring this cheap trinket to a royal ball?” she sneered, yanking the necklace from her hands.
The girl in the middle held her head up high despite the humiliation and mocking. “That necklace was my mother’s. Please return it,” she asked calmly, although her voice was shaking with emotions.
The bully's lips curled into a cruel smile as she held the necklace up with one finger. “Why would I return this trash to you?” She mocked.
“Please, d..don't….” Before the girl could finish her sentence the bully turned and tossed the necklace into the snow.
“Fetch it, then, if that piece of trash means so much to you.” she spat. The girl's distraught gaze followed the necklace as it disappeared into the thick snow.
The other noblewomen all chuckled, their laughter piercing through the cold air. My wolf growled in my mind, demanding I take some kind of action.
‘This is absolute wickedness,’ I thought, watching the poor girl kneel in the snow scrambling to search for her necklace. ‘She shouldn’t have to endure this.’
But I didn’t move. Not just yet. I turned to my maid, bent my head and asked in a low voice, “Who is that woman?”
“That’s Tania Whitmore, my lady,” my maid replied. “Her father is one of the royal maquis. No one ever dares to challenge her because of her status.”
My jaw tightened. “A title and noble blood doesn’t give anyone the right to humiliate others.”
As I eyed the situation, thinking of my next move, a familiar voice spoke behind me. “What are you doing, Isabelle?”
I whipped to find Beta Rowan watching me, his piercing eyes studying me intently. “Nothing,” I replied, my tone clipped as I averted his gaze.
His expression tightened, a dark scowl appearing on his face. “That’s not true Princess?” He muttered.
I didn’t answer, instead, I turned around and returned my attention to the scene. Tania and her entourage of mean-spirited women had begun to walk away, their laughter echoing through the garden.
The girl remained on her knees, brushing through the snow frantically with trembling hands.
Finally, I pushed through the bushes and stepped forward, my heels crunching against the icy path. I could hear Rowan's footsteps following me, but I was determined to ignore him till he gave up and left me alone.
“Here,” I said, kneeling beside her and retrieving the necklace from a patch of snow where it landed. I handed it back gently with a kind smile.
“It’s beautiful. Your mother has a nice taste.” I complimented.
She looked up at me, her eyes wide with surprise. “Thank you so much, Lady?…” she slowly drawled out waiting for an introduction
I raised an eyebrow. “I’m Lady Isabelle,” I responded.
She simply nodded, clasping the necklace back around her neck. “I’m Lila Stormborn.” her voice was tiny and barely audible. “I have never seen you before.” She remarked, watching my expression closely.
My smile softened. “You know Tania Witmore had no right to treat you that way. You shouldn't let her talk to you like that, no matter her status in society.” I said my tone firm.
Lila hesitated, then lowered her gaze to her hands. “ I know, I shouldn't let her walk all over me but…” She paused and I could see her eyes were shining with unshed tears.
“But what?” I pressed softly.
“My father is a noble, but he fell from grace a few years ago when our family fell into ruin. My mother is just a mere Omega, so we’ve always been looked down upon.”
My expression instantly hardened. “Your bad circumstances do not define who you are. Remember that.”
Lila’s lips trembled as she tried to hold back tears. “Thank you, my lady. I truly appreciate it.”
I placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. “You are the victim, you should never be blamed. The blame is on the bullies and the discriminators.”
After bidding Lila farewell and she walked away, I rose and brushed the snow away from my dress.
I turned to head toward the palace hall for the main celebration, only to find Beta Rowan still waiting for me.
“That was very kind of you,” he said, his tone soft and calm
I merely shrugged, trying to walk past him. “It was just the right thing to do, nothing more.”
He fell into step beside me, his gaze lingering. “You’ve changed.”
I glanced at him, my body stiffening, and my expression tight and unreadable. “I don't know what you're talking about Rowan.”
His lips twitched into a faint smile, but he didn't say more.
I quickened my pace and left him behind, my heart suddenly racing.
My wolf stirred, clearly intrigued, ‘Why is he always around lately? Could he still have feelings for you?’ She asked, her voice dripping with suspicion
The thought almost made my steps freeze. Was it possible Rowan was interested in me? My mind swirled with the unimaginable thought.
I quickly dismissed the thought with a shake of my head and a dismissive wave. “It doesn’t matter. I’m not looking back.”
I took a deep breath, swallowing hard as the double doors swung open, and the royal announcers declared, "Her Highness, Princess Isabelle!"
As I stepped into the grand banquet, the hall was buzzing with energy as nobles, all in lavish gowns and tunics shimmering under the golden chandeliers, whispering among themselves all sipping wine.
ISABELLE’S POVThe murmurs instantly ceased, and a line cleared amongst the crowd as they quickly stepped aside for me to walk past all bowing in unison. I walked in with a tiara that accentuated my royal bearing, but as I stepped inside, I could feel Rowan's presence right behind me.I quickened my pace, to put some distance between us, but I could still feel him trailing close behind me, his presence frustratingly too close.I threw a sharp glance over my shoulder, my voice low but firm. “Why must you follow me everywhere?”Rowan smirked, unfazed by my question or my demeanor. “It would be improper for me to distance myself from the princess, don’t you think?”My wolf snickered, clearly irritated by his cockiness.I quickened my pace, determined to shake off the rumours that my entrance with Rowan would soon spark. I could feel the eyes of the crowd boring through us, I knew they would soon start gossiping about us being back together.I needed to escape him so I quickly strode tow
ISABELLE’S POV The intensity of his sharp look sent a chill down my spine, but I refused to let it show one bit. Instead, I cocked my head at him, arching my eyebrow and maintaining my composure. My wolf didn't stay quiet. ‘Told you meddling in his affairs wouldn’t end well. He seems furious. Are you satisfied now?’ she growled with disapproval.‘He’ll get over it,’ I shot back inwardly, not backing down for a second.Tristan stepped forward, his eyes darting between us, he could already sense the rising tension in the room and let out a light chuckle to diffuse it. “Then let’s forget about it,” he said, dismissing my proposition with a wave of his hand. The crowd began murmuring once again, their tones shifting.“It seems the princess has truly moved on from the Beta,” someone remarked.“Yes, she wouldn’t have proposed it otherwise,” another agreed.Once Matilda stepped away, the crowd eased up and dispersed. Rowan shot me one last look before he also turned around and walked away
ISABELLE’S POVI arched my eyebrows, tilting my head towards her. “And what is this matter that must be addressed?” I asked incredulously.I could see the envy shining in Tania's eyes and the clear irritation under her skin as she looked at Lila. She was going to find a way to bring her down at any cost, even if it meant lying. Her dark gaze shifted to Lila, her eyes narrowing with clear disdain. “This girl owes me something—an item that rightfully belongs to me. The necklace around her neck.”The room fell silent as all eyes turned to Tania with full attention. My expression hardened, and my wolf growled softly in my mind. ‘This girl’s arrogance knows no bounds.’ She snapped.I took a deep breath to remain calm, and then I cocked my head and asked, “And how does the necklace Lila is wearing suddenly belong to you, Lady Tania?”Tania straightened, clearly thrilled her plan to humiliate Lila seemed to be working. “Her necklace is a delicate piece, silver with a sapphire pendant. Lila
ISABELLE’S POVMy breath caught in my throat, but I quickly masked my reaction. “I am doing nothing of the sort, Rowan. I’m simply acting with what I see and observe. Perhaps you should do the same.”His eyes darkened, and his expression tightened. “Do you actually believe that I have any intentions towards her?” He growled, his frustration evident in his clenched jaw.Swallowing my unease for his closeness, I squared my shoulders. “Yes, Rowan. I do. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’d like some time alone without you following me around.”My heart was pounding from the tension between us, heavy and charged, but I refused to look down and walk away. His words hung in the air, heavy and dark. I stared at him, my mind racing. Why had he been waiting for me? What did he mean by what he was saying?Gathering my composure, my gaze flickered over him cautiously, “Tell me exactly why you were waiting for me?”His piercing gaze met mine and he stepped even closer, till there was only a single inch
ISABELLE’S POVThe surface of the water broke through with a huge splash as I was plunged into cold darkness. My lungs burned like they were being pricked by icy needles as I tried to scream. I kicked frantically fighting against the powerful tides, my body sluggish in the cold water. The current pressed down on me, tightening its hold with every second I spent gasping for air.I struggled hard, my arms flailing above me but it was no good. I was going to drown.Just as the thought ran through my mind, a strange warmth spread through my chest through to my whole body.I felt like I was being pulled hard, away from the depths and into… a dream.I opened my eyes slowly, blinking from the sudden blinding light. I found myself standing in a fog-covered field, alone. I stumbled forward in confusion. Where am I? And how is my dress dry?“Welcome, Isabelle.”I whipped around in fear as a shiver ran down my spine. My eyes widened as I searched for where the voice was coming from.Standing a
ISABELLE’S POVI sat up in shock and my back immediately straightened. I glanced around the room and clutched my head in frustration. “I’m doomed!” I shrieked, feeling the weight of my wolf’s words slowly sink in. I am going to die.“If you’re still fixated on Rowan, you’re just wasting the time you have. The clock keeps ticking and when the time is over you will die” my wolf replied.I bit my lip, fear clawing at my heart, my mind drifted to Beta Rowan, his devastatingly handsome face and green eyes, his confidence and intelligence shining through every command. That was what I admired most about him—his sharp mind and wit. I knew what people in the pack whispered in secret when they thought I couldn't hear them. They all call me the lazy and foolish princess and the only reason I was protected was my brother. And Rowan was the opposite of that, he had raw power in his mind.“Isabelle,” my wolf’s calm voice broke through my thoughts. “With your looks and your status as a princess, y
ISABELLE’S POVI stood by my window, watching as snow fell thick and heavy, blanketing the grounds in pristine white. My maids rushed around me, changing me out of my dress and brushing through my tangled knots. My mind was racing with the ordeal of today. I could still feel the presence of my wolf in my mind even when she was silent. My maids carefully dropped a fur-lined coat over my shoulders, sweeping my hair to the side.I turned around to face the mirror, my eyes inspecting every part of my figure. I looked up above my head, nothing was there but empty air but I knew the truth. There was a timer over my head and when the time ran out, I would die.Desperation clawed through me as I silently begged the goddess for the next target to appear or I would turn the pack upside down to find the person myself. My maid walked between me and the mirror sliding hand warmers onto my hands. I broke away from my thoughts and turned towards the door to leave for the palace.A chill ran throug
ISABELLE’S POVAs I climbed onto the grand palace steps, a surge of warmth spread through me, even in the chilling cold. My gaze stayed fixed on the figure kneeling in the snow. I cast a glance at the guards standing stiffly at attention by the double doors. “Who is that man kneeling in the snow?” I asked, brimming with curiosity. The guards stiffened, and one answered, “That's the pack Zeta, General Kael. He was originally stationed at the border to defend the pack, but he recently returned.”My wolf’s voice echoed in my mind as she pranced around. “This is your chance. Go and introduce yourself.”I considered her suggestion, my gaze flickering back to the figure but I had other priorities right now. One thing first, I thought, pushing down the strange warmth in my chest as I walked into the palace beside Rowan. The huge doors closed with a loud thud behind us and we approached the throne room silently. My brother's face lit up as he saw me, his usually stoic expression breaking

ISABELLE’S POVAlan looked away, his voice barely audible. “You are clearly of noble descent. And I'm just a struggling painter trying to make ends meet. We are from very different worlds.”For a moment, I stared at him and didn’t know what to say. Hearing such words from Alan touched me more than I expected.“You’re wrong,” I spat out, my voice sharp and firm. “Alan, you’re one of the most confident, most talented people I have ever met. Our worth isn’t defined by titles or wealth.”Alan’s eyes flicked up to meet mine, and for a moment, there was tense silence between us.I leaned in closer to him, our warm breaths mingling in the air between us. “I don’t care about status or wealth,” I whispered, my voice gentle and tender. “Those things don’t matter to me.”His face turned a deeper shade of crimson, his body trembling beside mine. I giggled softly, and I couldn't resist leaning in and pressing a gentle kiss to his cold cheek. Alan froze, his heart pounding loud enough for me to he
ROWAN’S POVShe hesitated for a second, biting her lower lip. “She’s already invited me, hasn't she? Maybe... maybe it’s time I stopped seeing her as my enemy. I don’t think she hates me anymore.”I studied her closely through the mirror, my brows furrowed. Matilda had always been timid, hiding behind others. But deep down, I knew she wasn't a bad person.“Well then, I guess I'll come with you,” I said after a moment.Matilda smiled faintly. “Thank you, Rowan,” she whispered.Despite my calm exterior, I was feeling a strange tension gnawing at me. Something was disturbing me and—it was Isabelle. For some reason I couldn't explain, I also wanted more interactions with her. Ever since she suddenly stopped clinging to me or chasing me, I couldn’t shake the unease I was feeling in my gutIt was as though I lost something without even realizing it.ISABELLE’S POVOnce I left the supermarket, I went straight to Alan’s modest home with the groceries I bought. ISABELLE’S POVI turned around, only to find myself face-to-face with Beta Rowan. He had a dark scowl on his face, but his stern expression immediately softened when he saw Matilda still lying helplessly on the floor. Before I could say a single word, she scrambled off the ground and rushed towards him to stand behind his towering figure, clutching his arm and casting a wary glance back at me with an innocent expression.Rowan watched the scene with confusion, his gaze flickering between us. His frown deepened when he looked down at Matilda behind him.“What’s going on here?” Rowan asked, his deep voice filled with concern as he looked between both of us.Matilda, looked up at him with her doe-like eyes, “I-It’s nothing, really. RYKER’S POVI stared at Isabelle in utter shock, her confident confession hanging heavy in the air between us. Her words were bold and direct, cutting through my usual stoic defences like a sharp blade.“I’m here because of you,” she said and I couldn't get her voice out of my head.It wasn’t just her words but the way she said them—with so much sincerity and brashness—that managed to throw me off balance. For the first time in so many years, I was not sure of how to respond. For a man like me, used to control, logic and order, the raw emotion I could feel in her voice left me almost speechless. My wolf growled, urging me to respond and acknowledge the feelings stirring deep within me. But I just couldn’t, I needed to leave.I was flustered under her prying gaze, my face turning a deep shade of red that spread down my neck.I took a step back, “I...
