Josh looked at Vanessa as he replied, “I haven't been telling stories to anyone.” He couldn't understand why she would claim his story didn't match reality when he had never told anyone anything about himself. Vanessa's grin widened sensing she had struck a nerve in him. He wasn't even denying the fact that he came from a wealthy background anymore, and that meant that she was right about him. “Oh, come on, Josh. Don’t play dumb with me. You may not have said anything, but you haven’t exactly corrected anyone’s assumptions either, have you?”

Josh's eyes narrowed slightly, frustration creeping in as he thought of a way to respond to Vanessa. Her interrogatory questions and smug attitude were beginning to grate on him. He couldn't help feeling annoyed by her relentless curiosity. She had no business investigating his background.
