Marcus rounded the corner of the bedroom door, glancing briefly over his shoulder before disappearing. Jessica rambled on about finding me some clothes, while I cringed at the thought of being dressed like a Barbie doll.

My thoughts wandered to what Marcus' mother was speaking to him about. Was it about Jason and the lycans? Did she know more than she originally said?

"What size bra are you? 32B or 32C?" she asked, eyeing my boobs as if I weren't attached to them.

A blush traveled along my face, and I hated myself for being so timid. I wanted to be the girl I once was before everything happened. When I danced around in my room with Emily—

"Emily," I blurted out, not realizing I'd even spoke aloud. "He'll go after Emily."

Jessica stopped her rampage of words. "What?"

"Emily. My sister," I said. "Have you seen her? Jason will remember, and go find her. He'll hurt her—," I shoved past Jessica and ran into the hallway. Marcus stood with his back to me, tension rested in his wide shou

Hey Melissa! I’m fine. We’ve been dealing with the stomach bug, ear infections and strep at our house since August. *Knock on wood that we’re clear for now.* I’m hoping to get back to a steady routine.

Hex fumbled around in his kitchen, pulling out whatever it was that he needed to mask our scent. His house was hot as hell, even in the autumn air, but he never seemed bothered by it. Lilly sat with her knees pressed tightly together, her palms clutching them with nerves. She jumped at any sound outside, her body language on high alert. Hex wobbled back into the living area, holding a bag of some crushed up powder. "This should do it for at least a couple of weeks. You smear it on your foreheads, and it'll take care of your scents." Hex stopped in front of Lilly. "He hasn't marked you, has he?"Unable to stop it, my wolf growled, clearly pissed at the idea of someone marking her. "No," she said quickly, shaking her head. "He planned to do it when … when we married.""You were his betrothed?" Hex asked. His wise eyes met mine, and he gave me a look that could only mean you're in for it. "That's not good news for anyone. Here." He unzipped the bag, stuck two fingers into the powder, a

I sat on the couch, tears dripping down my face as I silently cried. I'd become accustomed to it over the years, crying in silence. So that Jason wouldn't hear me, and prey on the weak like the vulture, I knew him to be. Marcus stood at the window, one hand in his pocket, and the other scrolling on his phone. I could tell he'd known Hex a long time, and the fear of him dying because of me felt deafening. I hadn't even realize someone knocked on the door when Marcus walked over to answer it. A blond-haired man stalked inside, with a tall red head behind him. I stood, out of habit, and interlaced my fingers in front of myself. The man stared at me with a kind smile. He looked a little like Marcus, with blond hair, but his eyes matched their mother, Barbie. "Well, you must be Lilly," he said, offering me a handshake. I took it carefully. "I am.""I'm Scotty, Marcus' other brother. This is Heather."Heather looked exotic, and something about her screamed paranormal, but not a wolf. I'

You're stupid, my wolf growled. You had her right there, and you just stopped. I shifted uncomfortably on the barstool from the kitchen, trying my best to ignore my wolf. Lilly stood beside the living room table where Heather sat, her brows pulled down in concentration, while she bandaged Heather's wing. She hadn't turned away from Heather, and part of me thought it was because of what happened in the bedroom. The thought sent my wolf into a tizzy, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't have me on the verge of tossing all the pack laws and pack morals out the window of the penthouse. She'd tasted like chocolate covered sin. So sweet. Her body soft, but needy. The fact she couldn’t make the first move pleased my wolf. A wolf loved a submissive mate, and Lilly was definitely that, but I hated the reason behind it. Heather hissed beneath her breath. "Sorry," Lilly whispered. "It's not too bad, it should heal in a day or two. I'm assuming you heal quicker than a human?" Heather st

Marcus was different from anyone I'd ever met. The way he watched me, how observant he was while I ate, making sure I ate. He'd been right. Jason never cared that I ate anything. Most of the time there wasn't much left after the lycans finished their meals, or he forgot to come get me from my room.So the hardly there dinner was all I had. It was more than enough to keep me alive, but I partially thought he enjoyed me being small. He always commented on liking 'small-framed' girls.I was definitely that.I slid the last piece of pineapple past my lips, and savored the taste of it. The lycans didn't have much of anything other than meat. Even their snacks, as you would call them, were beef sticks and slices of meat. The pineapple brought me back to my youth. My mother would cut them up and put them in my lunch for school.Marcus grabbed my empty plate before I could, and tossed it into the dishwasher, before turning to face me. "You like pineapple? Noted.""It's been a long time since

The bastard gave her nightmares. I could only imagine the torment he put her through. She looked like she saw a ghost when she woke up in a sweat, eyes full of fear. If God allowed it, I would make Jason pay. However, at that point, I just wanted him dead. So we could go on with our lives. So I could slowly earn Lilly's trust in peace, without looking over my shoulder because some deranged lycan wanted my mate. At least The Dragon King was Blaire's other mate, and not some random supernatural man that wanted her just because he staked claim on her like Jason. Jason wanted her because he was entitled, cruel and used to getting what he wanted. But this was one battle that he wouldn't win. What he didn’t know about the Reed Brothers was that we weren't quitters, and would fight to the death for our mates. It was in our bones. Our pack laws were strict about respecting our mates, and fighting for them was without question. I cooked some pasta for the both of us, and offered it

Red. White. I didn't care at this point. The chilled liquid running down my throat felt like magic in a glass cup. It made all those negative thoughts disappear. It drained me of those stupid memories at the kingdom, and the look on Jason's face as I hid my head in Marcus' shoulder in fear as we flew away. The liquid was magic. I felt like magic. Marcus' strong hands steadied me as I sat down my glass and walked toward the lake. "Hey. Hey, Lilly. You need to slow down. You've never drank, and now you want to swim? I'm not practiced in CPR," he said with a chuckle. I glanced up at his dark eyes, and smiled. "I can swim, Marcus. Come on. Let's cool off. It's hot out here."Without thought, because who cared about those, I shrugged out of my t-shirt and tossed it. Those dark eyes flashed a midnight black, and he turned his head away to sniff the air. His fingers curled into fists at his sides, but I didn't care. All the things I would have said if I were the same girl from before

I watched Lilly breathing, her small body moving up and down as she laid on my lap. Bridesmaids had kept her attention all the way until the end, but she fell asleep halfway into The Avengers. I watched her eyes as she watched the screen, the smile that blossomed across her face. It made my wolf happy. It made me happy, which was something that wasn't part of my life prior to saving her. And I felt myself slipping into that darkness again. The anger inside of me reared its ugly head, and wanted out. It wanted blood. We had one day together before we went in for the kill. To save Luther. He was still alive, because the pack would have felt if he was hurt. Axel was alive or his pack would have felt it. They were alive, but for how long? I brushed my fingers over the back of Lilly's hair and down her back, to her slender hipbone. She stirred, mumbling something incoherently in her sleep. I sighed, rubbing my eye with my thumb. My phone vibrated in my pocket, and I realized how late

The promise Marcus made me swam around in my head like unleashed tadpoles as I watched the lycans from across the field. The distance made it hard to see who they were, but I was sure I would recognize them. I remembered all of Jason's henchman's faces.A shiver raced down Marcus' spine, and I watched as he fought off his wolf. We were in broad daylight, in the middle of a publicparking lot. Shifting into supernatural creatures wasn't a good idea."Marcus," I said, but he only gave me a look that said do what I say.Quickly, I raced toward the rental and made it to the passenger side. Marcus stalked toward the field on the side of the apartmentcomplex, meeting the lycans halfway.I was thankful for the distance because I didn't want to see them fight up close. I knew from experience, and growing up aroundlycans, that just because it was one-on-one didn't mean he'd lose. In fact, I had a feeling Marcus could take care of himself. Freedom never tasted so sweet. It’d been three weeks since the last fight with the lycans, and not a thought of Jason. I knew he was being detained in the dungeon at the pack house but I didn’t give one damn about it. I was safe in Marcus’ arms, and my parents knew I was alive. We’d drove for two days to get to them after the fight. Marcus looked more nervous that I had walking hand-in-hand up the small driveway toward my parents humble two-bedroom house in Georgia. We hadn’t called first, because I wanted it to be a surprise. At first, I didn’t think they realized who I was. Then my mother reached forward and touched my cheek, drawing me into a hug that lasted longer than any other hug in my life. They both looked older. More older than I expected, but I sensed it was from the stress of their daughter going missing in the woods. Dad didn’t like Marcus. Well, not that I sensed, anyway. He thought Marcus had something to do with my disappearance, which I didn’t bla

All the vampires are here, Luther’s wolf said through their mind link. I’d spent the entire morning regretting not taking Lilly to her parents’ house the night before. I would have missed this if I had, but I wouldn’t have been sad about it. Though they deserved my help. I’d broken the plan and slipped into the kingdom that night. I hadn’t started it, but I’d helped fan the fire. My wolf skimmed the surface, stirring awake, and longing to be set free. The flashes of white zoomed by, a blur of speed that a werewolf didn’t have, and I’d be the first to admit it. My wolf shredded my clothes and landed on all fours in a giant thump. The gnashing of teeth and tearing of flesh fed his desire to join the fight. The dragons landed throughout the courtyard, while several wolves guarded the cells. They were here for Jason. To release him. And I couldn’t let that happen. I couldn’t let them release him. One because he wanted Lilly. And two because he wanted Selene. My wolf p

I scrubbed the filth from my skin and remembered the last time I’d been in the shower with Marcus. His rough hands were on me, doing things I’d only ever wanted to do with him. But as badly as those memories drove me up the wall, I couldn’t get Selene out of my mind. She looked horrified that Jason was her mate, and I felt the same way. Jason’s kingdom didn’t treat their mates with respect, hence his first mate meant nothing to him. But he was stubborn and would go after Selene just to spite Axel and Luther. After finishing my shower, I stepped out and dried myself off. I changed into some sweats and braided my wet hair down my shoulder. I felt sore from the rough flight over with Alaric. He hadn’t given two cents about me. The only reason he took me along with them was because of Blaire. He was the perfect anti-hero. He’d sacrifice the world to save his mate. I opened the bathroom door and yelped. Barbie, Selene, and Jessica all sat around my room, looking worried. “He

This wasn’t happening. As if we didn’t have enough problems, now we had a mate issue. And I didn’t mean the dirty threesome, Alaric, Blaire, and Luther. This was the bastard fighting over my mate that was now mated to my sister. For a brief second, I thought I’d fallen and hurt my head while fighting with Jason. But that would have been too good to be true. Alaric’s deep chuckle broke the brief silence between the group of us until Axel jumped forward and lashed his claws across Jason’s face. Lilly jumped, and I nudged her to stand behind me. I noticed a sword hanging on her side, and I was pretty sure she didn’t have it before. I’d ask later. Now I needed to come up with a plan on how to get us all out of there before the vampires woke up. It wasn’t as if we couldn’t fight them, but our wolves were tired enough, and adding blood-suckers to the agenda would only cause more problems. We could lose more warriors. It wasn’t worth it. Jason flipped Axel off him, and they squa

The flight over had been a close second to a night in Hell. Probably not, but it put the fear of dying in me. Alaric seemed unfazed by his tight turns and uncanny speed, while I prayed he didn’t let me go. The wind sucked the breath from me, and I became still, praying that we made it over in one piece. When Alaric dropped me in front of Marcus, and I scurried over, I’d been hopeful that Jason finding his mate—and it affecting him the way it did—would deter him from everything. Wishful thinking. Mindless dreaming. Standing to the side of Marcus, I held him closely as Jason convulsed and fought to stay in control. “Jason found his mate when we were younger, I thought, he said it was his mate,” I whispered. “Some wolves have more than one. Seeing he’s a Lycan King, and not around his first one, it's not uncommon that he has another one.” My gaze shifted around the yard, wondering who had drawn such an unlucky card. Jason screamed, looking up with red eyes, his wolf began to cra

The wind blew into my wolf’s fur, making his journey to the kingdom the calm before the storm. It’d been many moons since we’d went on a run, and I hated the reason behind it. Leaving Lilly, my brother, and the others behind with the potential ghost of the castle, didn’t sit right with me, but I had no other choice. I knew Alaric would protect Blaire, and Blaire would make sure he protected everyone else, as well. But it stung to do it either way. My wolf’s paws slid into the dirt as we neared the kingdom and came to a stop. The other wolves following, slid in around me, and then the dragons landed with a giant thump. Heather’s wings shook the drizzle of rain from her, and she stopped in front of me. “We’re all here. Where to first?” I glanced around the giant brick wall guarding the grounds, and the tall front gates. The woods gave us enough coverage to hide from the lycans, but it wouldn’t be long before the wind from the thunderstorm carried our scent to them. All eyes o

Marcus let the bedroom door shut behind him once the guards made it into the hallway. My gut felt like rocks lined the insides. My heartbeat was still out of control from my dream—nightmare—with Jason. He'd pulled me through the courtyard by my hair, and I found little relief in massaging my scalp. The bastard had kicked me, taunted me, laughed at me, and when he shoved me down onto the ground, I knew he planned to rape me. The look of outrage on his face caused panic to knot in my throat. I'd never felt so helpless pressed against his body and the ground before. It was worse than the wolf's bane. It was worse than my leg. It hurt my pride, and my dignity to think he would take that from me. There was gravel beneath me, but no rocks big enough to do any damage. Jason's fingers tightened around my throat, and I gasped for breath. Kicking my legs wildly, I heard the sound of wings above me. I'd never prayed for another man to show up and save me as I did Alaric. But I couldn't see h

Lilly's warm body stirred beside me, but my wolf was too exhausted from alpha duty to pay it much attention. Moments dragged by when her leg jerked again, this time, shoving the covers away from her. Turning on my side, I glanced into the darkness to see someone standing over Lilly's body. I'd never moved so quickly in my life. I jolted upward, coming in contact with a cool gust of wind. Spinning, I watched Lilly begin to thrash around in her sleep, obviously in a dream with Jason. I turned on the lights, brightening the room to see Alaric's shadow dancing in the corner. "What do what?" I barked, desperately shaking Lilly's shoulders to wake her. His chuckle hit the back of my neck. I swirled around to see his silhouette perked in the corner of the room. "Stupid wolves think they can defeat anyone—," "What do you want?" I screamed, my insides melting into a batch of hatred. Alaric's gaze turned to Lilly. "Are you interested in saving Lilly, Marcus?" My jaw clenched into a jaw kn

The dragon in front of me was huge, his wings tucked tightly against his back, and his long black hair tied at the nape of his neck. If I hadn't known him, I would be intimidated. But his kind smile always pushed any fear I had about him away."This was my daughter's sword when she was a child," he chuckled, a playful look in his eye. "Believe it or not, dragons are small when they are children."I smiled and eyed the shiny blade. "It's beautiful. Did you carve the handle?"He nodded. "I do woodwork in my spare time.""Have you always been in this coven?" I asked, taking the blade from his strong grip, and admiring it up close."No. My mate was from this coven. When her parents grew old, we moved here to join this coven. When she passed, I stayed because my daughter grew up here. Now she's mated and found a new coven.""Do you miss her?" I asked."Very much so, but she comes to visit a few times a year. She would love that I'm teaching you a few moves with her sword."I ran my finger
