Nathan leaned forward one more time to capture Jessica's lips and feel their softness in his when he suddenly stopped mid-way feeling different.
His wolf, restless.
A curious frown appeared on Jessica's forehead at his odd behaviour, "What's wrong Nathan?" She asked, reaching out to caress his jaw.
Something felt odd, he could sense Kiara's presence which wasn't possible because it was only he and Jessica in the room.
Or was it?
The room was dim so it was a bit odd to see a shadow reflecting through the door and a brighter source of light reflected into his office from the opened door the shadow of a figure reflecting through it.
The door was opened?
He turned sharply, walking away from Jessica who was seated indecently on his desk to his door and was met with the last person that should see him in this position.
Kiara.
She looked lost and was frozen to her feet, her eyes lacking the vibrance they always carried.
He could see brimming tears underneath her lids threatening to fall.
Kiara could hardly comprehend her own emotions, she was somehow lost in them unable to find a way out. The pain she felt wrecked her insides to nothing.
This can't be happening truly, can it? Was she asleep making this one big bad nightmare?
It has to be.
Her heart raced hard against her chest, frantic and scared as she pinched herself to wake up but each time the pain sears from her action, it didn't change anything. Nathan was standing in front of her, his expression holding worry as he stared at her. She glanced at his desk and saw her.
The woman he was with.
Her green orbs pierced into her own, and a smirk was stained on her lips. "Kiara..." He started softly but she cut him off her hands waving off any explanation.
Nathan closed the door behind her but she hardly cares if it was open or not. Her mind played back to her and Luna's conversation.
"Nate has a mate and she would take her rightful place."
How could she miss it?
How could she be blind to the truth staring at her in the face?
Keeping her expression blank, she looked straight ahead ignoring Nate's dark orbs resting on her face.
She was hurting deep within the pain of betrayal eroding whatever she thought they had.
She thought they mattered, she and Nate. Their love but she was wrong.
"She is the mate your mother talked about," she whispered, realization in her voice as it was unbearably shaky.
"I guess I was never one for this pack, your family and you," she whispered the last part, he could feel the weight in her words, she craned her head to look at him, her eyes boring into his sapphire orbs, he soon averted it.
The guilt in them was visible.
She wished he was the Nate that still loved her. The one she chased after in the woods days back, the one that kissed her under a waterfall. The Nate that loved her to the ends of the earth and back but he wasn't that Nate anymore.
Nate dropped his gaze to her and surveyed her briefly.
She was dressed up in her favourite gipsy long skirt looking very beautiful, her dark hair in waves resting on her shoulders while her face was lightly made on.
Why was she dressed up for? Her tears glistened in the dim lights radiating from the lamp lights in his office, threatening to fall anytime soon.
She is the mate your mother talked about.
His mother told her about Jessica. "Mother told you?" He asked, unsure of what he heard.
"And I just confirmed it." She whispered disappointment laced in her voice, trudging into his office and staring pointedly at Jessica, her eyes catching her undone dress.
Disgusted, she averted her face away from both of them.
She couldn't explain the pain searing in her heart, she felt weak to every cell in her body it felt like her world has ended but she living through it.
If she had not interrupted them they would have been intimate. She wanted to cry so badly but her sobs were choked up in her chest, alongside her breath.
Nate could feel guilt eating him from every corner, Kiara has never looked at him with such disappointment in her eyes and he could see how much suffering this alone is putting her through.
He reached for her hand holding them tightly in his and drawing her close to him, he wanted to look into her hazel eyes but she gazed at everywhere but him.
"Kiara please look at me, please," he pleaded, reaching for her face and cupping her sides causing her to look at him.
"Don't touch me," Kiara said, disgust expressed on her as she peeled his hands off her."I don't need your explanation, Nathan. I would be fine without it. You should have let me know earlier you had no more interest in whatever I believed we once shared-" She paused trying to remove emotions from her voice "So you won't have hurt me in this manner, your mother was right when she said I should go for a severance. I would take her advice." Kiara couldn't believe those words came out of her mouth. Never in her life did she believe she would sever her ties with her mate.
He was everything to her.
Was... Right.
"Nate would never agree to that and I won't as well." Her words to his mother rang into her ears, reminding her she promised to never go through with a severance but in a few hours so much has changed.
Everything had.
She can't stay here anymore, it was torture. It felt as though she is punished for the sins she never committed.
Her legs turned to the door and attempted to go by it when long hard fingers wrapped around her arm and drew her back to where she was previously.
She is met with Nate burning orbs, he seems infuriated. The irony.
Was he mad at her?
That was her place, not his."I. Won't. Be. Breaking. My. Bond. With. You," he spelt it out, coldly.
Kiara felt anger burning her insides, the anguish his actions are putting her destroyed whatever authority he thinks he has over her. "I would do that tomorrow in front of the council, the pack, your parents and you." He could feel her words scald into his skin. Those words made him uncomfortable for some reason he can't see himself without Kiara.
Whatever illusions Jessica's return brought were squashed. Jessica wasn't as important as Kiara, their fate as mates weren't the same as what he shared with Kiara.
He closed his eyes dreaming of the woman he wanted by his side, the woman to rule by his side, the mother to his children, the woman he wish to grow old with and it was Kiara.
Not Jessica, how could he let messy attractions of whatever cursed bond he and Jessica shared ruin the real deal?
Why did he lose the one thing an Alpha is supposed to have? Self-control, now he is lost in this dilemma.
There was this feeling inside of him as her hazel orbs bored into his in anger, she was defying him. It was fear, fear she would go through with Jessica couldn't believe her ears as she heard those words fall off Kiara's lips.
She would be divorcing Nathan.
This is like dream but it is real.
She felt overjoyed, but it didn't last for long when Nathan reacted in the manner he did.
He doesn't seem too happy with what Kiara has decided on but moments ago the kiss and their make-out sessions together implied to her, he was just as crazy about her.
She could feel it, what changed now.
Was Kiara more important to Nathan than her?
She assumed he wanted to get back with her, what's the need of hiding with your fated mate when you can be with her for real?
Her attention was drawn away from her thoughts to the two, she could see the fear in Nathan's eyes.
He doesn't want her to break their bonds, but what of her? What importance does she have in Nathan's life?
Was she just an ex?
"Kiara, you don't love me anymore?" He asked, his eyes searching for hers as she averts her face from him.Her retort echoed through the room and she passed a condescending stare at Jessica then back to him, "You didn't think of our love when you decided to cheat."
"I made a mistake everyone does but I can't afford to lose you because of my poor decisions.
"Mistake?" His voice echoed in her head."I am your mate, Nathan!" Jessica asserted, walking towards him. She has had enough.
He can't downplay whatever they just shared.
Kiara detached herself from Nathan's hold and watched them, uncertain if she could handle whatever they wanted to say.
The fact she asserted herself as Nate's mate pointed out there was more to what Nathan let her through."I was your first mate and you are my fated mate, not her. I deserve all of this, to be by your side, to be called your Luna. I was destined to have this position, not her!" She reiterated, her voice a pitch higher than her last.
She was his fated mate? Kiara was dumbfounded at the reveal. She was his mate, really, but why hurt her in the process of getting back to his first mate? Why did he make her fall in love with him all these years? Their love and his presence became the source of joy in her life.
Kiara felt her eyes brimming once more in tears but she kept it at bay. She won't cry in front of him.
Jessica ran her fingers through her blond curls, taking in a deep breath in a bid to calm herself down before she continued."And whatever we shared, was definitely not a mistake," she turns around to face Kiara, her face scrunched up in contempt. "And why do care so much about your relationship with her? She is ready to free you from it, Nathan. She is giving you another chance to correct your errors. She is the mistake, why do you want to continue with it." Her hands reached for his hands, she was clearly agitated holding them tightly in hers.Nathan slowly peeled her hands from his, his voice cold and lacking any emotions, "One last kiss you said, and I gave you just that. I have done my part, Jessica, leave my life and this pack just like you did four years back. I have realized nothing equates to you and Kiara. She is not a mistake but the moon goddess made a big one making us fated mates. "
Her eyes widened with every word he said, disbelief worn on her face. "You can say those things but we know they are not true. I didn't come here to leave Nathan, I came here for you!!!" She screamed, her tears spilling down her face, ruining her makeup as dark tears streamed down her cheekbones.
Nate seemed irritated by her tone, his blue orbs filled with anger gripped her arm and forcedly walked her to the door."Get out! You should leave this night, it's in your best interest." He warned coldly before throwing her out. She stumbled in her steps a bit before stabling her feet.
Jessica was pained by his actions and his harsh words, as they pierced through her heart and shattered it to nothing just little fragments mirroring the state of her life presently. She was a fool to believe physical intimacy was enough, as long as Kiara was in the picture Nathan would never see her deserving of him. It was her, always her.
A hybrid stunt has what she wanted always.
With Jessica gone, Nathan felt confident he could convince Kiara not to go through with a severance. It was odd having the two of them together in his office, one was his past and another his present And the tension in the room made it worse. He turned to Kiara, observing her briefly,
"Kiara," he started unsure of where to start.
She looks at him abruptly and it was enough time to see the pain riddled underneath her orbs, the pain he caused. Then a tear fell from her eyes but she quickly averts her face from him and hurried to the door walking out without a last glance or chance.'Shit,' he cursed and ran after her.
Shit,' he cursed and ran after her. He called her consecutively but she didn't stop for his calls, she ran like her life depends on it, her hair bouncing in the air just like the time they ran in the forest."Please listen to me, Kiara, I am sorry." Her hands swapped at her face, perhaps erasing the tears falling on her face."I am truly sorry, please don't go ahead with it." She suddenly stopped on her feet and turned to face him, keeping her distance. Her face was overflown with tears, strands of hair smeared to her wet face. He attempted to come close to her but she yelled, "Stay away from me, don't come any closer and please answer these questions?""Jessica is the reason our relationship spiralled this past few days and your mother..." She paused, her voice shaky as the said the next part. "She was aware, right?" You can't have a stunted hybrid as the Luminous stone pack, Luna. It's a shame people are already talking, Nathan recalled his mother earlier talk with him Or how s
Jessica drew the door of the backseat open, Kiara's lifeless body falling out almost immediately as she was rested against the door to keep her steady during the bumpy ride. Taking a brief look at the bloodied mess her car was in, she patted herself one more time for using a polythene wrap to cover her seats and the surfaces of her car to prevent a mess such as this and suspicions that might grow from it. Dragging Nate's dead mate out of the car, she was slightly overwhelmed by how heavy Kiara weighed for such a petite woman. She held her tight in her arms while the rest of her body was drawn across the wet soil. Jessica stopped momentarily to rest, her arms aching before carrying on once more, she dragged Kiara by the shoulder till they reached the edge of their destination. A downhill, overgrown with bushes, perfect for hiding her body till she is found dead or maybe not. The fact remains no one comes here, it's beyond the pack border and close to a highway sidelined with tall t
Xander felt his knee crouch to the ground, the moon bright enough to illuminate to some extent the woman in front of him. He could hardly see what she looked like but her body was covered in blood and wet mud. Her long dark hair was wet with mud which smeared all over her face. His heart raced at the thought she was dead but who did this to her? Who went through the effort of seeing her die so painfully? What if she had a little life in her? He leaned closer to her unsure he should still be in the forest after seeing the bloodied body of a presumed dead woman. What if her death is linked to him? He can't have the police and Estoc men after him. That would be too much for him to handle alone and further investigation might reveal things about himself he would rather keep hidden. He stood to his feet and walked slightly away from the body. 'I should get going,' he thought to himself, walking towards his car. Estoc men can't find him now, he needs to leave. His hand reac
Xander couldn't bring himself to leave the hospital or to be specific, leave her alone. He hates the fact he feels obliged to a total stranger but he has a good reason, more especially when she has no one by her side to call her family. Changed into his former blood-stained free clothes, he walked towards the ward that houses the woman he rescued. Pushing the door open he is met with a rather disturbing sight. There was the lady he rescued, still unconscious and two men hovering over her with devious smiles on their faces, it didn't seem like they had sensed his presence. He recognized the doctor instantly but not the man beside him."Don't you think she would be of great interest?" The doctor asked, a sly look growing on his face. The other man with dark-blonde hair mix, drew closer to her, the lust in his eyes obvious, Xander felt sick to his stomach, "She looks human to me, more ethereal than any woman I have ever seen." He leaned towards her, taking her hair to sniff. The doctor
The rays escaping from little spaces through the curtains fell on his face. It was morning his groggy mind registered. Nathan flicked his eyes open and immediately familiarized with his surroundings. He was in his room his left hand in their normal ritual reached out to the other side of the bed to touch Kiara but oddly it was empty then it occurred to him why it was so.Guilt ripped him apart, it was all his fault this happened.Kiara has been missing for three days because of his actions. His messy feelings for Jessica misguided him and when he realized Jessica can never par with Kiara it was already too late.He threw the cover off his body feeling suddenly depressed, he can't give up on his search for her.He must find her.He walked into the bathroom to have a shower and repeat the routine he started two days back before any other thing read the reports for the search of Kiara. Desperation gnawed at him to know if there was any progress on her case. If she wasn't in the pack
Xander felt his feet press softly on the floorboard as he walked across the hall the last thing he wants was for her to wake up. Her, the hazel-eyed lady he brought to his cabin home a day back, the last time he checked up on her she was still asleep. It was worrisome because it has been a day since he took her away from the hospital, he hoped cutting her from her medications doesn't have any serious effect on her. He felt perplexed about her situation and could only hope she gets awake. His eyes scanned the dusty condition of his cabin home. It's been so long since he came here, memories flooded his head as a wave of nostalgia rushed through him. He missed Blake, his Aunt and Raven but he knew they are faring better and safe without him. If they were here with him, as usual, he would put them in danger. He walked gently to a dusty platform hooked to the wall, his index finger swapping at it, collecting a dusty film on his finger. Everything looks the same, just the way he
"I know you," her soft tired voice whispered before her lids closed finally but not to the dark abyss she always finds herself in she felt conscious but weak. She only closed her eyes because she felt weak to her bones and could not lift a finger to save her life if she was in any danger. Being practical, she was in danger. She was in an unknown location with a beautiful stranger. His soft brown eyes floated in her head with her eyes closed. She had no idea who he was or might be and why he is with her. She was supposed to feel cautious around him considering they share no familiarity whatsoever but she loved how she was temporarily gathered in his arms. His presence basking her in comfort, she felt weirdly secure with someone she is supposed to be wary of. Warm big hands fondled her cheeks as if trying to wake her up. She flicked her lids open but they only ended up half-lidded and tried to close back once more. She is met with his familiar eyes, they stared down at her with co
For the first time since her fall in and out of unconsciousness, it felt as though she was truly rested. Her mind wasn't as foggy as before and she could hear her thoughts clearly but the fatigue remained and a slight stabbing pain behind her head and by the sides of her temples. She felt a burning ache as well around her stomach, as her body felt heavier, why is she feeling these things? She didn't yesterday but it felt as though her whole body was set on fire or was being smouldered with a steel rod. Opening her eyelids open, she is met with a rather bright blinding light, white rays of the sun blinded her. She was forced to close her lids as she could barely see. It felt different seeing the sun, it felt as though it was her first time seeing such a light, especially when in recent times she was only in the dark abyss her unconscious mind trapped her to. Seeing the sun was different but refreshing, something she would like to get used to. Gently she flicked her eyes ope
She closed her eyes tight when she noticed she was in the air instead of falling. Her chest still rose and fell as her nostril greedily dragged in the air. Why wasn't she falling anymore? She felt the soft breathing of a familiar man“Xander,” she mutters, her eyelids fluttering open. “Selena.“ He smiled as their forehead touched, his free arm holding her tightly against him. The strain and muscle pull his right arm suffered was nothing compared to the joy of holding her alive in his arms.A tear slipped out of her eye. “My trust belongs to you, Xander. Only you. I don't care how many wrongs you might have done against my people in the past, one thing is certain you've redeemed yourself.“ Xander pressed a desperate kiss on her forehead, her hair strands smeared on his face. “I won't fail you. I promise.“ A loud voice echoed from above the cliff, “Kiara!“ Nathaniel. Selena felt her chest tighten in guilt. Why was she hiding the truth from Xander, she was so scared for their love,
Xander turned around, finding it odd that Lena hadn't come since. He ignored Nathaniel's ramblings as to whether she was his mate or what not. “Selena!“ He yelled for her but only silence met him.His eyes met the spot where Jack was supposedly unconscious but odd enough His body wasn't there. His mind alarmed and alert, he brought out his Glock and walked towards different sections of the house, about to go to the back when…Jack's voice echoed through the house. Xander found himself pausing his steps up the stairs, gently he turned his neck to see him, and his world stopped.“Selena.“ A whisper left his lips.“You forgot too soon Alexander, that I hate you more than Estoc does and I yearn for your pain more than he wants your blood.“ A wide smile was strewn on his face. “Kiara!” Nathaniel rushed forward, desperate to get to Estoc. “Careful, wolfman you come any closer I blow her head off.“ He revealed the gun behind her head. Selena seemed unconscious, her frail body dragged on
Xander stared at the dark wolf watching Selena intently, he found it unbelievable to fathom a beast just saved her from Jack's to kill her. It seemed too aware of its surroundings. Eyes flickering at every one occasion before returning it to Lena who was packed with shock. He drew her closer to his chest, aware of how traumatic the situations his past introduced her to were. But for the first time she wasn't drowning in his touches, she was rather stoic, her gaze following the dark beast around. The dark wolf turned around, dragging a dead guard towards a pillar, it then stood behind it and slowly became invisible. After some minutes had passed a man emerged from it, wearing the guard's trousers that wrapped tightly around his thighs and groin. He was muscular, his muscles ripped and taut, his biceps flexing as he walked forward. His face was the only part of his body that hadn't properly shifted. Xander watched him aware instantly of who he was, a shifter but by far the biggest h
Jack felt his world blurring up as he only looked into her eyes, he couldn't look away even if he wanted to. It was like she had him in some kind of trance. “Do you want me to show you how I killed Fred?“ Selena said in a whisper.Estoc watched as the scene unfolded before him, he did nothing but watch. Jack never mentioned Alexander's lover is just as dangerous as him.He wanted so badly to put a bullet through her, the need was greater than the urge to end Alexander. Both are irritating. One thing he never expected was she to be equally as strong and a challenge to deal with. He expected her to be this weak woman that Xander desperately wanted to save. Except he guessed more work has to be put into making her his preferred version of her. He cares less whether Fred brought her or whether she had him killed. She was here. That is the main deal.~~~Xander sat his box on the floor, running his fingers through his knives and selecting his best ones, before tucking his Glock. Maybe he
Xander paced restlessly around the guard Quarters as he stood outside, the headguard noticed him.“You look new.“ He said.Xander hummed in response not wanting to push the conversation further but the headguard who goes by the name Gideon was relentless.“You were employed today?“ He asked. “Yes.“ Xander replied, feigning a smile.“Hmm,” Gideon remarked. “I guess Sam was fired. You might not know Sam. He was a good fellow, you know but he had a drinking issue.” Xander nodded, fully aware of who Sam was. And what mysteriously happened to Sam?“Excuse me, I've got somewhere to be.“ Xander excused himself about leaving the head guard's presence when he got called back by the damn man. “What now?“ He said through gritted teeth, shocking the guard mildly.“You are not allowed to go beyond the premises at night.“ The guard said.“Whose orders?“ Xander asked, his temper rising.“Jack and the damn owner of this place.“ Xander drew closer to the man, till he withdrew slightly, a frightene
Xander drew his cap low to cover his face as he strolled around Estoc's home premises making sure not to pass out as suspicious. His disguise to look as big as the former guard was Ehhh…? Okay. He made do with the little resources his hands reached. The small round belly he gave himself fell each time off his toned abs, and his slender muscled form didn't quite resemble the bulky form of the former guard but he didn't plan on disguising himself for long. He just needed one night to confirm Selena was here and safe. He feared for her more than her, and this wasn't a risk if he had done much worse. His one prayer now was that Estoc or Jack didn't pay the guards too much attention to notice any oddity in their looks. The sound of man's shoes scratched against the gravel of the ground. Making Xander pause on his feet and listen. The legs moved further one more time, and this time oddly closer to where he stood. A voice spoke out and he instantly recognized the owner of that voice.
Xander couldn't stop the voice ringing in his head, "You need to protect her." He reached the ward door and pushed it open slowly. For the first time, his eyes landed on the woman he rescued the night before, she was different from the bloodied dying woman covered in mud. His legs trudged closer to observe her closer, something felt different in the air. And she was the cause. She was like an angel and a peaceful one in her unconscious state. Her pale golden skin reflected against the rays of the sun softened by the curtains while silky long dark hair rested past her shoulders, some falling in little strips of hair on her oval-shaped angelic face. Her skin looks smooth and flawless except for a noticeable depression on her right nostril, which made her nose look more pinched and aquiline. His eyes roamed over her face, her little plump lips parted slightly in sleep. Above her brows where the big bump with an acute cut was, was wrapped in a bandage. Xander couldn't explain why
L Nathaniel alighted from his car before walking into a coffee store, he was tired and groggy. And he needed to use a restroom to freshen up a bit. A strong coffee won't be bad. He found a place closest to the window. His eyes roamed about the streets on the outside of the environment as he tried to absorb more into his new noisy environment. He took a sip of the freshly brewed coffee he was offered, sipping contentedly, his mind going back to Kiara in a restless manner. Though he still perceived her scent strongly, it was like she was everywhere but nowhere, pockets of her here and pockets of her movement elsewhere. He would only be moving in circles if he didn't catch a direct glimpse of her soon. Tense for no exact reason he breathed in deeply to calm his senses, before running fingers into his hair. A loud chaos outside caught his attention and screams and pockets of loud whispers soon turned into chattering. “The car would run her over.“ He heard a man say. Nathaniel intrigu
Lena felt like crying, she was so clueless and outrightly deceived by a goddess. She felt the evening cool air swirl around her, her hair billowing in the wind and she knew who was about to make herself appear. The air felt charged and electrified, her abdomen region burning for some reason. She closed her eyes at the pain and dust swirling in the air. Soon her bright white appearance formed in front of her eyes. Her body was covered in white glowing tattoos, and her hair billowed in the air, her eyes weren't as ferocious as Lena expected them to be instead they had a soft expression enamoured to it. “I am sorry.“ The goddess apologized, as tears poured down Selena's eyes. She was shaking with emotions she didn't know existed. Her reality and her fate weren't in her hands. She never had a choice in the beginning. All this while she wore the furs of a wolf that couldn't even help her when she was kidnapped, refused to help when she was almost killed by Fred, and let her be awa
