THE LAUREL SPRINGS EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM - ARCHER

Archer

"Heading onto main and hopping the fence. I'm sending Rambo over. If anyone can meet over there, do so ASAP!"

The inflection in Ransom's voice over the radio causes my heart to pump faster. The adrenaline I've come to recognize flows through my veins at a high rate of speed, almost as quickly as I drove my patrol car to get here. Tapping my radio, I answer, "almost there."

As I come around the corner, there the suspect is. "Hands up." It's a direction, not a question. He glances at me, then at Rambo, before turning around and attempting to scale the next fence.

Rambo barks wildly, running at full-speed to where he is and grabbing him by the leg.

"Get him off me, " the runner screams.

Hopping onto the fence to try and bring him down, I get jostled. A stinging sensation starts at my eyebrow and the feeling of blood is immediate. "Son of a bitch."

Once I get him down on the ground and attempt to put him in cuffs, my gaze li

Alisa "You're really doing it, huh?" Stella questions as she takes a seat next to me at the nurse's station. "Doing what?" I lift my shoulder up in an innocent gesture. She cuts her eyes to me, a smirk crossing her face. "Must be the full moon, right? That's why you agreed to go out on a date with Archer."Sighing, I bite my lip, my stomach doing this stupid fluttery thing it does when I think about him. "That's totally it. Has nothing to do with the fact he's lean, hot, and inked in places you can't see without a shirt on.""Famous last words." Stella laughs.Glancing at her slightly rounded stomach, I give her a look. "You'd know. Number two on the way with a hot, lean, and inked K-9 handler.""What can I say? Since the first date we went out on, I haven't been able to say no when it comes to him."That's exactly what I'm afraid of with Archer. I've been there before, with a man I couldn't say no to. It got me in way more trouble than I'd ever imagined it could have. That,

Alisa"Want me to walk you out?" I ask Stella as we clock out for the night. Although she's older than me and she's obviously able to take care of herself, I like to make sure she's safe. Especially since she's pregnant. If I were in her shoes, I'd want someone to look out for me. Ransom's tried to request she be on an earlier shift, but she refuses to ask for special treatment."You don't have to." She takes a drink of her water. "I don't have to, but I want to. You'd do the same for me.""You're right, I would. I appreciate it." She smiles, tired lines at her eyes. "I'll take you up on it. It'll make you feel better and when I tell Ransom about it later, he'll be impressed I let someone help me."Together, we make our way out into the warm early morning. Even at almost three am, it's still warm and muggy. Welcome to south Alabama. "How do you like it here?" Stella asks as we walk into the security lights. "I love it!" "It was that bad at Calvert City?" A lot of the

ArcherWaking up is painful as I realize I've rolled over on the side of my head with fresh stitches. Back in my college days, I could play football in the quad, get tackled by fifteen different guys, and wake up without much soreness the next day. Fuck, I could even go out that night and have a great time. It's amazing how a few years on the body can change the way it reacts. While twenty-two-year-old me would've been hopping up, heading to Waffle House, and getting a plate of hash browns scattered, smothered, and covered. Today? I'm fucking hurting. Gingerly, I lever myself out of bed before putting my feet on the floor and dropping my head into my palms. Beside me, my phone beeps with an incoming message.AL: Are you awake? How are you feeling? AR: Just woke up and feeling pretty rough.AL: Want some company?Looking over at the clock, I can't believe she's up and at 'em . The last time I talked to her was about ten hours ago. AlisaI've never been one to spill my guts to others I barely know, yet here I am about ready to tell Archer everything about my life. Starting with the bitch who took my boyfriend in middle school on up to the professor who grabbed my ass in nursing school. There's an easiness to him that allows me to talk without feeling self-conscious. Together, we clean up the mess from the breakfast I brought. With anyone else, I'd already be trying to leave, but I can't help but want to stay. "I guess I should get going?" I phrase it as a question since I don't want to. I enjoy spending time with him and I want to spend as much as I can.He reaches out, grabbing my hand. His large palm encases my hand, warming me from the inside out. "You don't have to. I'd love it if you'd hang out with me. I won't be up for more than probably lying on the couch and maybe taking a walk later, but you're welcome to stay."His soft words warm my chest. "I'd love to. Archer"You're good to go."       Nodding, I grin, before hopping off the examination table. "No restrictions?" I question the doctor.        "None. You might have a little scar. If that bothers you, I can refer you to a plastic surgeon."       I cut my eyes over to him. "I think it gives me a dangerous edge. What do you think?"      "Definite danger."His tone is so dry, I chuckle. "Thanks for backing me up.""I'll have your release sent over to the police department. It's up to them when they want to put you back on shift.""Thanks, Doc. Don't take it personal, but I don't think I wanna see you again.""None taken. Be safe out there, Officer.""Will do."My steps are with purpose as I leave the doctor's office. Although I've enjoyed the time off, I'm ready to get back to work. I worry about the men taking over my shift. They're already doing overtime and tired. My being hurt has put our already-stretched department even more thin. Getting into my SUV, I head for the

Alisa     Although I got a good night's sleep, I'm still dragging ass this morning. It's what I get for working all hours. I'll be glad when I'm on a set schedule, but who knows when that'll be. Since I'm the newest nurse over at Laurel Medical, I'll be waiting a while.I try to convince myself it's not so bad as I get up and get dressed. My morning routine is pretty standard: brush my teeth, do skincare, and do my best not to fall back asleep standing up. When I get it done, I realize I'm going to need something to help me kickstart this day. Looking out my balcony, I notice Eden putting out her daily board for A Whole Latte Love. Coffee and a pastry is exactly what I need.Decision made, I head down the back stairs and out into what I hope won't be muggy air. It's still warm. But not sticky.I'll take it. As I make my way across the street, I have a one track mind. All I want is a cinnamon roll and a vanilla latte. Entering the shop, I inhale deeply. The smell of fresh ba

Archer"Show me out with a car at Lanier Park," I radio to dispatch the next night. I call in the temporary plate, trying to give whoever is inside time to get their shit together. I wouldn't have stopped tonight, but there's been some break-ins at the neighborhood behind here. We're stepping up patrols and doing our best to make our presence known.       More than likely, this is a couple of either high school or college kids who've snuck out to get a little alone time. Which is why I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, so I don't see something that'll scar me forever.       Walking up, I tap on the window.       Color me surprised when it rolls down to reveal Devante and Eden. She's fixing her lipstick and he doesn't have a shirt on. "Seriously?"       "What?" Devante asks. "Her mom's in town and my mom's in town. It's been a rough week."       Chuckling, I shake my head. "So you decided to come to a park in the middle of town?"       "A park that's closed,"

Alisa"Why the long face?"       Glancing up, I notice Stella's taken a seat across from me. She puts her feet up, sighing deeply.        "I don't know how to keep my heart safe from Archer," I admit, sighing right back at her.       She giggles, smirking. "Girl, why are you even trying? Those guys on the police force are the best ones I've ever known. All fucking hot as hell, especially my baby daddy."       "I haven't had the best luck when it comes to putting my faith in others. The fact of the matter is, I've been disappointed more than I've been surprised. At some point in the last few years, I started protecting myself and     not letting anyone get too close. I was fine with that until I moved here. Archer and you have started to get under my skin. I haven't even allowed myself to have friends in forever."       "And here I am, coming in with leftovers for you and an iced coffee. How dare I?"       My eyes roll heavenward. MenacePresent TimeIt's been a hell of a day. One where I got here late in the afternoon because I had meetings. Something I've learned since taking this position a few months ago is that it's mostly meetings. It's keeping people happy and kissing a lot of ass.        My legs ache to get back out on the street, to do a couple laps around downtown, or to drive a car fast. To chase a speeder with the lights bright and the siren blaring. I miss it more than I thought I would.        It's close to midnight and I know Rina will be wondering where the hell I am, but I wanted to get a look at what went on today by reading the reports of the officers. This is something I do everyday so I can try to gauge how my officers are doing. It's important for me to know if there's an issue in town. If someone is a nuisance, do we need to step up patrols in certain areas?        Community policing is the name of my game and I take it seriously.       Reading the last report, submitted by Caleb

ArcherA Year And A Half LaterNerves make circles in my stomach as I stand outside of Laurel Springs Medical waiting for Alisa to come out. She doesn't know I'm here and, the truth is, I didn't know I was going to be either. I've been carrying this ring around in my pocket for the last year and a half of the two years we've been together.        Waiting.       For what, I'm not sure.        The right time?        The perfect moment?       We live together. I could've done it a million times, but there's something different about these stars against the inky blackness of the sky. They aren't crazy bright, but they aren't muted either. They're sparkling. The perfect backdrop to the plan I have.       Tonight, as I helped a woman leave a dangerous domestic violence situation, I realized I'm wasting precious and valuable time. Even after dealing with Calvert County, it didn't hit me that seconds are to be treated with the same reverence as the big events in life.        Lo

Alisa"Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?"       "Yes." I nod as I sit before the grand jury to give my testimony about what happened with Officer Fugate.       "Please tell us when you first met him," the attorney instructs.       Archer is sitting in the back row, all hot in his uniform. I don't know how he managed to be here, but he has      and it's one of the sweetest things he's done for me. I'm not sure I could be doing this without his dark eyes staring back at me. "I met him when he brought a suspect into the ER. It was obvious that man had been beaten badly and it didn't happen only once. After that day, it happened on a regular basis…"ArcherUshering Lis into the station is like sending a babe into the belly of the beast. She's never been here before, doesn't know how things work, and could honestly be scared, given everything she's dealt with.       I'd like to kill Officer Fugate with my own two hands.

ArcherIt's a gully washer tonight, as my instructor at the Academy always said when it rained hard. Visibility fucking sucks and I've worked more accidents tonight than I have in the previous three months. It's as if when it rains, no one can remember how to drive. It's hard to even see out of my windshield but, as I pass one of the abandoned gas stations on the outskirts of town, I see another cop stopped. They're an eyesore and, at the next city planning meeting, there's going to be a vote on demolishing them. They're a breeding ground for drug use and criminals. We've put up cameras to show what happens at night when there aren't patrols going back and forth. Since it's raining and dark, I figure I'll hit them, just to make sure nothing's going on that shouldn't be.As I round the corner. I'm surprised as fuck to see Alisa's car parked next to a Calvert County patrol SUV. She's kneeling in front of a cop who has a taser pointed at her. My heart gallops in my chest as I wonder

Archer"Chief Harrison wants to see you," Tank tells me as I make my way into the squad room.        I have no idea what I've done and am immediately  questioning what the hell is going on. I try to do everything by the book and I can't remember anything I might've done that was untoward. My stomach rolls as I head toward his office. I've never been called before him before and, truth be told, I never wanted to be.       When I reach the door, I knock with a double tap.       "C'mon in."       Opening it enough so that I can sneak my head in, I glance at the Chief. "You wanted to see me, Sir?"       "Yeah, come in and have a seat. There's a few things we need to discuss."       I don't like the sound of this shit at all. Going in, I have a seat in the chair facing his desk and prepare to get my ass handed to me.       "Officer Fugate has made a complaint and I'm bound by state laws to investigate those complaints."      "I told you what happened," I defend myself. "He'

Alisa"Thank you for coming tonight," he says as we enter my apartment.        "You don't have to thank me. You've saved me more times than I can count." I grin, taking my jacket off. "Come sit over here on the couch with me. You look a little stressed."       "They do that to me." He waves his hand toward the street where his parents have just left. "They always make me feel like I'm not good enough, as if I should've done something different with my life."       "I know how that feels." I beckon him over with a crook of my finger. "Let me take care of this tension for you, Archie. Let me show you what the fuck your parents are missing."       Something about the way they don't appreciate their son has me wanting to show him just how much I do. How important he is to my life. One of the ways I can think of  showing him is with my body.       Fuck if that isn't exciting.       Reaching for my shirt, I pull it over my head, motioning for him to do the same. ArcherI'm heading into the squad room at the station to pick up some supplies when the phone in my pocket rings loudly. There aren't many people I have set ringtones for, but this one? I hate when it rings.       It's my parents.       Not wanting to make whichever one this is wait, I hurriedly answer. It's always struck me as odd. They were so quick to get me out of their lives, yet they do everything together, including share a fucking cell phone. That's right, they share this phone, which means I never know who I'm going to talk to when I put it to my ear.       Talk about a surprise every time I answer.       "Hello?"       I wait for the response. It's always delayed as if they're on some far away phone line. "Archer, it's Dad."       No fucking shit.       "Hey Dad," I answer, wondering if he'll continue on or if I'll have to pull the words from him like teeth. "What's going on?"       "Your mom and I will be in Laurel Springs tonight. We'd like to have dinner w

"Please don't stop," I beg as I rake my hands over his strong back before digging my fingers into the hair on his head.       "Never gonna stop," he promises as he sucks at the prominent tip, before letting it go and moving further down.       I'm still unsure of how we got our clothes off. All I know is they're in a pile next to the bed. He moves down my body, kissing my stomach before he drops onto his knees and pulls me to the edge. Separating my thighs, he props them up on his shoulders, gazing up at me with those dark eyes before he dips down.      His warm mouth covers my pussy, going straight for my clit and lapping against the trembling flesh. Archer "Look guy." I hope me using that term pisses him off. "This isn't even your jurisdiction. What the fuck right did you have to pull her over?"       "It's Officer Fugate," he corrects me, before continuing on. "She failed to signal a turn."       I'm real annoyed. "You got that on your dash cam?" I point to where his camera is mounted on the dash.        "It wasn't on." He shrugs.       "How fucking convenient for you." I smirk, shaking my head.       "It's something the garage knows about, but the budget is lean over in Calvert County." He eyes me.       My gaze is on Alisa who's sitting in her car with her hands locked around her steering wheel. She's white-knuckling as he and I stand out here, yelling at one another. "I'm not allowing you to ticket her without proof. Did you radio it in?"       His cheeks go red, which tells me all I need to know. "You son of a bitch. You think you can intimidate her? Officers like you give the rest of us a bad name." Going in
