Mercedes held her breath when the attention of the 3 werewolves was on her now. She was in the spotlight but she was not afraid. But she was still cautious but deep down she believed that these wolves killing her would be the best thing that would happen to her than living on the run for the rest of her life. Initially, she thought starting a new life would be easy but in a few moments, a realization dawned on her. Like that man chased her, her past would be on her tail, following her everywhere she goes. So she stood her ground. Running was clearly not the solution so she had to face whatever came on her head-on.

I mean what could be worse than what she had to face in the past few days till now.

The 3 wolves analyzed her but never approached her. They looked much calmer than before and none threatening. Even she could not understand how they were not doing anything but just staring at her. The gush of wind blew and their thick fur moved along with it. Mercedes envied how unmoved they were. That the cold was not affecting them as it was her.

Simultaneously, they too retreated to the shadows. Mercedes was left standing alone and she sighed in exhaustion. She found herself back on the ground with a loud groan. All the adrenaline in her system began to vanish leaving her body frail. Her body was freezing and numb. Her mouth was dry and she desperately needed even a drop of water. The exhaustion weighed on her body and she was unable to move. She stayed down and marveled at the night sky littered with stars. She thought of counting them but she didn't even have the strength for that. Everything was taking a toll on her and she needed to rest. Her eyes eventually became heavy and she gave in. There was nothing she could do. She had nowhere to go anyway so she spent the night on the forest floor all alone. She didn't even care about what could happen at that time.

Mercedes cracked her eyes open. The sun welcomed her to another day. She stayed down for a second to assess where she was along with trying to remember the events prior. It all came rushing and hit her like a ton of bricks. She quickly sat up but she was no longer on the forest ground. She was on a hospital bed or she assumed it was a hospital by seeing hospital-related charts on the wall. Fear consumed her when she saw herself in a hospital gown and out of the clothes she had on. She was confused and she had questions that needed answers. She carefully got down from the bed and headed for the door.

But she was too weak and she fell forward, on her knees. The door opened and she saw long slender legs, clad in gladiator sandals. She looked up and saw a woman a little bit older than her in a white coat, black bob hair, blue piercing eyes that creased on the corner, and the brightest smile anyone has ever given her. The surprises never ended. It was one thing after another.

" Hey there. I see that you are already awake." Mercedes willed all the strength she had and stood up to the women's height. She was on the downside. The woman was taller than her. She did not say a thing, not really knowing what to say to a stranger or doctor.

" Oh, I'm sorry," she giggled. " Where are my manners. My name is Crystal Perez. Doctor Perez," she clarified offering her hand for a handshake. Mercedes took a second and linked their palms together, not wanting to be rude to the first person to talk to her with a smile on their faces. " Uh... I-I Mercedes," she responded. She was also amazed by how beautiful the woman in front of her was. Her silky black hair, small button nose, and long elegant neck. She started to feel insecure. She hadn't even showered for days and she surely had a bird nest for hair. She inwardly groaned and cringed imagining her awful appearance.

" Alright, Mercedes. How are you feeling now?" she asked helping her back on the bed and laying her down.

" Like I have been run over by a truck over and over again." She was not going to say that out loud but it just came out. Crystal smiled. " I feel you." She examined her and she silently jotted something on her. clipboard. She was very focused on what she was doing but Mercedes interrupted her. " I'm sorry Doctor... Crystal but can you tell me where I am?"

Crystal paused and looked at her. " You are in a clinic. You were found in the forest and you were brought to me for treatment." Crystal made sure to answer as cryptically as she could. She could not afford to let it slip that she was in the White Claw Pack clinic. She saw that Mercedes was going to keep asking questions so she quickly decided to divert her attention.

" You were in pretty terrible shape when they found you. Barely breathing and your heart rate was low," she informed her, scanning her expression to try and read her. But she was blank. Her eyes were just empty and she could not figure out what she was thinking. Crystal wanted to inquire about the scars that marred her body but she felt that she would be overstepping or maybe it was a sensitive topic.

" Thank you for saving me. You shouldn't have but thank you," Mercedes said to her leaving her confused. She was wondering if Mercedes wanted to die. Was she suicidal? She was told to try and gather as much intel she could about who Mercedes was and what was she doing outside pack borders being chased by a rogue. Crystal just had to find out anything that could help. She really felt sorry for Mercedes. She looked so young by she was already looking lifeless. The scars attested to her struggles.

" No need to thank me. I must save lives," she smiled tenderly and placed her hand on Mercedes's, and to extended her support. A strange emotion went through Marcedes. She was experiencing new things. She just met a person who had nothing but sweet to her and it almost felt unreal. Everyone saw her as nothing and just treated her like shit. It was strange for a person to talk to her for longer than a minute.

" What happened out there, Mercedes. Why were you in that state?" she asked with her tone laced with worry If only her mother treated as half as Crystal treated her in the last couple of minutes. But there was no use in thinking about it now. " I-I don't know," she replied in a daze. " I had a long day and I was trying to get away from something but... someone followed me. I had to run into the woods. I-I s-saw something that I won't ever forget. I didn't know it was possible in real life. Last night's events are a bit hazy," she concluded. Mercedes purposefully left out the part of seeing a human turn into a werewolf because who in the world would believe that.

They would immediately send her to the psychiatric ward for evaluation. So she couldn't risk that. She would keep that fact to herself. " Did you see that person's face?"

Mercedes shook her head. " No, no I didn't get a good look at his face but the was one thing that stuck out. He had a bug scar-like he was attacked by an animal. " Without realizing it, Mercedes was disclosing what happened to Crystal. Crystal listened tentatively to what she had to say. She surmised that it was a rogue werewolf who followed and tried to hurt her. She was rescued by the border patrol.

She smiled. " Well, I am glad that nothing happened to you. All we have to do now is get you patched up and good to go. Do you have any place to co after here?" Mercedes went quiet. She didn't want to tell Crystal that she did not have anything or anywhere to go. Crystal looked at her expectantly to tell her something and she decided to lie.

" Yes. I am going to... my aunt's house upstate. She is expecting me in a few days. " Crystal saw through Mercedes's lie but she did not say anything just so she would not make her more uncomfortable than she already was. " Okay then. I'll prescribe you some painkillers for the pain you are feeling. And if you want to you can continue taking rest. I have to go make some rounds but I will send someone with food for you.

Mercedes nodded her head in appreciation and laid back comfortably on the bed. She closed her eyes with a small smile on her face. Whatever comes from now on, she would deal with it later. For now, she would just enjoy the small peaceful time in her life before it becomes all chaotic.

And if no one stood against those rogues, the werewolf's existence would be under threat. Felix was in his study managing paperwork for his pack's affairs. He was the Alpha of the White Claw Pack and he was responsible for everything that concerned his pack. And now his main aim was to protect all his pack members from the feral rogues. The rogues have attacked many surrounding packs but he managed to save many of them and claim their lands to expand his pack. If the Alphas were not dead, he offered them to remain in their position but he had the ultimate control. Last night an incident happened by the park borders. A human girl was about to be atta

It felt so surreal. Mercedes felt at peace and relaxed for the first time. She was not scared or anxious that anything bad would happen and it was a strange feeling considering how people are at the hospital because of something bad. It had just been 5 days and she was already getting used to the hospital room she was in. Everyone she met treated her well and catered to her everyone's needs no matter how small it seemed. Although she had a feeling that it had something to do with her good and first friend ever, Crystal. Crystal had been a Godsend to her. She came more than necessary to check on her. But she was not complaining. It was like she understood her. She didn't want to be all alone and feel that eerie loneliness again. When Crystal came over she would talk all about her life and how an amazing family she has. Her husband loved her to bits. She even told her she was pregnant with her first child. In all that time she felt like she got to know her completely and tha

Crystal brought Mercedes fresh clothes since her's were torn. They were both silent, trying not to make the situation even worse. Crystal briefed Mercedes on what she had to know because she asked. She was said that her friend was going to leave and never remember. It was probably not a good idea to form an attachment with her. She couldn't help herself. Mercedes was just shy and sweet. Unlike like the females in her pack. Crystal was only treated well by the rest of them because she was mated to a Beta. If it wasn't for that, she wouldn't even be here. Every privilege she gets is because of her mate's status in the pack. Although she is grateful, it is not enough. She wanted people to like her for who she is not who she is with. She doesn't want fake respect or concern like that. With Mercedes, it was different. She didn't know anything about her and she liked her for her personality and character. In that short time, they established a solid bond that would soon break.

Alexa was in a daze not knowing how Mercedes could intercept her magic. After all, she was just a human so how was she doing that. Felix, Jake, and Crystal, we're confused and waiting for Alexa to tell them what happened. Mercedes was as confused as the rest of them. She was just starting at Alexa weirdly. " What is it, Alexa. What happened?" Felix asked approaching her. Alexa shook her head and placed her fingers on Mercedes again. This time she used maximum power to see if she would be able to block that too. Mercedes gasped and started convulsing and elevated. Her eyes were wide and her mouth agape as Alexa's magic navigated her mind. Alexa was once again unable to penetrate her mind enough to erase her memories. She retracted her power and Mercedes slowly calmed down and fell on the floor. Crystal panicked and ran to her and kneeled in front of her. She gently placed her head on her lap and caressed her hair and face. " Mercedes wake up!" she exclaimed tapping li

Felix had summoned all his pack members to the training grounds to address th if the new situation. Everyone was murmuring amongst themselves about what they thought their Alpha called them for. Some of them knew it was about the mysterious human girl they have seen around. They even heard she was rescued in the woods from a feral rogue. Now it would finally make sense. They would know about her and not just speculate of might be going on. Felix stood tall and serious in front of his subjects. All of their murmurs hushed in recognition of his presence. He beckoned a scared Mercedes to come out from behind him. She was not used to so many eyes on her much less Werewolf eyes. She wished that the earth could open up and swallow her whole. Mercedes felt so embarrassed and inferior to their supernatural superiority. She was at their mercy. She imagined all of them turning off her and attacking her and having a feast. A horrific thing to imagine. She shook her head to get it str

The following couple of days, Felix tried as hard as he could to avoid Mercedes. To be honest, it was not so hard because she spent so much time helping out at the clinic but he couldn't take any chances. With the hope of finding his mate looming, he didn't think it wise to develop feelings for someone other than a mate. It would not end well for anyone involved. But he was still concerned by the mysterious pull he felt for her. Her green eyes held more than meets the eye and he felt it in his bones. It was not accounted for and he never thought it would happen. It was like someone possessed him to feel that way about her. Mercedes was diligently helping out Crystal as much as she could. There were not a lot of patients because one of the perks of being supernatural is that you don't get sick regularly like human beings. She envied that amongst other things but thinking about it, she never got sick too much. In fact, she couldn't remember the last time she fell sick. The

The packhouse was bustling with cheer spirit. Everyone was preparing for the upcoming celebrations. The full moon ceremony was underway and it was a joyous time for all werewolves. Felix stood on the terrace of the house looking outside. It was yet another ceremony he would have to go through without his mate. Every year he would be eager to get involved and celebrate in hopes that it would appease the Goddess and he would finally meet his mate but it never happened. He stopped feeling excited about it altogether. It was just another day of constant anguish and disappointment. What surprised him was seeing Mercedes helping out the others with setting things up. Of course, she was with Crystal but the smile plastered on her face while she was busy. A ray of sunshine that lit up any gloomy day. Of course, he would not admit it to anyone but he kinda likes her. He kept an eye on her but not in a creepy way just in an "I hope you don't do something stupid" way. When he first m

Today was the day of the Full Moon Ceremony. Preparations were made and it was all set. Children were running around, playing and the adults were chatting and having a good time. It was still daytime and everyone was anxiously awaiting the night. Mercedes and Crystal took the day off from all their activities to enjoy the day with the rest of the other people. Crystal was offering some of her unused dresses for Mercedes to don in the evening. She had many of them because Jake was such a big spender on her. She took out a medium puff short sleeves, low plunge neck, and medium length. It was flower-patterned and a perfect fit. Her hair was in a French braid decorated with some flowers to add to look. She put on a simple crescent moon pendant and mid-calf gladiator sandals. She was done getting dressed and she twirled in front of the mirror to inspect the outcome. It was a simple but radiant look and for the first time in her life, Mercedes felt l

Alexa looked at her in confusion. " What do you want to do?" " I want to go out and help heal all the injured pack members. It's the least I can do for them," she replied with her voice full of sorrow. Felix grabbed her hand and squeezed it. " It's not your fault my love. It's so thoughtful of you to want to heal them

She winced feeling pain. The pain quickly subsided. Her blood oozed out and she closed her hand and let the blood drip on Felix's lips. The blood seeped into his mouth. With just that, all of them couldn't determine if the blood was working. The was pin drop silence as all watched to see if Felix would show any reaction to her blood. A few minutes had passed without anything happening. Mercedes was on the verge of losing hope. She looked down and dejected. But then suddenly, Felix bolted up and gasping for air. Everyone gasped in shock seeing this. It was like Felix had been revived from the dead. Jake and Crystal came for

It was not at all my intention." " Alright. Don't mind me and my friend here. Move along." Mercedes just stood there not understanding the hostility between them. Alexa turned to her and grabbed her hand attempting to get away from Isadora before her mood got spoiled. " Stop being childish Alexa. It's beneath you. Mercedes went over to the window of the classroom to get a closer look. Everyone in the class didn't take notice of her standing there. She watched as the girls paid attention to their teacher in front of them. The woman looked not much older than the girls. She was fair skinned, had unique violet eyes, and a long black hair that cascaded behind her like a waterfall. She was simply beautiful. Mercedes couldn't help but be in awe of her. She felt insecure just to be in her presence. The woman uttered words incoherent to Mercedes to perform a spell. Suddenly a flame formed out of her palm. The girls were awed and equally astonished as Mercedes was. She had not seen anything like that. While glued to the window of the classroom someone tapped her shoulder from behind. Mercedes looked behind her to see Alexa standing before her. " Alexa!" she exclaimed. A sense of relief washed over her. She was frantically looking for Alexa all this while but she got distracted by the class. " Where

It would have been bad if something happened to her. " Mercedes, you are awake!" she exclaimed placing a tray of food in her hands on the table and going to sit next to her on the bed. Mercedes looked at her in confusion and asked, " What happened? I-I don't remember what happened after we got to Alvira. Everything is hazy and my head hurts so bad." Alexia placed her hand on her back and stroked her lightly. " It's okay. Take it slowly. There is no need to push yourself. Relax," Akexa coerced sweetly. " Long time it is," she responded with a small smile as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear shyly looking everywhere but at him. He grabbed her chin roughly but not enough to hurt her, compelling her to look him in the eye. " I am dying to ravage you all night long until you are satiated and spent. I want to sink my teeth into your sweet slender neck to mark you as my own.
