436 – Just a boy

Haku took a rag and wiped the dishes that he had just cleaned. Hanabi came into the backroom with more dirty dishes and put them in the sink in front of him.

“Haku. Why are you still here?” Hanabi asked.

“I havent’ dried the dishes…” Haku said, putting the dried plate beside the rack and taking another wet plate.

“Oh it’s fine. Let them dry by their own. Isn’t Jai waiting for you at the inn?” She asked while moving around to prepare new orders.

Haku put the plate on top of the first one. “He said to meet at 3PM.”

At that, both Hanabi and Haku looked at the cuckoo clock above the door. It was fifteen minutes to 3PM.

“I have a few minutes.” He smiled at his grandmother.

“Oh well… They didn’t come over for lunch. Have they had lunch, I wonder? Should I prepare lunch for them?” Hanabi asked, pausing her chopping to ask her grandso
