Kieran's POV

The red beam of light shot through the sky like a warning. My heart pounded as I ran back toward the safe house, leaving the ritual site behind. The twins had somehow started the gate opening process without me. Without Sienna.

My wolf growled inside me, demanding I turn back to find her. But Elena and the pack needed me first.

I broke through the tree line at full speed, skidding to a stop at the sight before me. Wolves scattered in fear. Children crying. The smell of fear so thick I could taste it.

"Alpha!" Morgan spotted me first, running over with blood smeared across her face. "Thank the moon you're here."

"What happened?" I asked, grabbing her shoulders. "Where's Elena?"

Morgan pointed toward the main house. "She's hurt. Badly."

Ice filled my veins as I sprinted toward the cabin, pushing aside anyone in my path. Inside, I found Elena lying on a homemade bed, her neck and shoulder torn open. The smell of silver poison filled my nose.

"Who did this?" I growled, droppi

My blood was already mixed into the ritual, taken while I was unconscious."Stop fighting, little Ruby," the Queen said, circling me like a hungry animal. "Your mate is coming. Soon, we'll have all three sacrifices."My heart raced at the mention of Kieran. "He won't fall for your trap."The Queen smiled, her beautiful face twisted with evil. "He already has. Love makes fools of even the strongest Alphas."I looked around desperately. The clearing was filled with Syndicate followers, their silver marks glowing in the moonlight. Zeke stood nearby, his face blank as he watched me struggle."Zeke," I called to my brother. "Please. This isn't right."His eyes flickered with somethingdoubt, maybe. But he turned away.A commotion at the edge of the area caught everyone's attention. Guards pulled in a battered figure, thro

The darkness flowing from her twisted body was unlike anything I'd ever seen.We raced through the bush, Kieran supporting Sienna as her legs threatened to give out. The Queen's terrible voice echoed behind us, shaking the trees."What just happened back there?" I panted as we ducked behind a fallen log. "Zekehe sacrificed himself."Sienna's eyes were red from crying. "He saved us all. My brother..." She hid her face in Kieran's chest. The sound of snapping trees made us freeze. Syndicate guards were spreading through the woods, hunting us."We need to split up," I said, making a quick plan. "Kieran, get Sienna to the safe house. I'll lead them away."Kieran's eyes narrowed. "Why should I trust you, Phantom?""Because right now you don't have a choice," I snapped. "I know these woods better than you."Sienna looked between us, her fire-r

The Blood Moon's red glow still lingered in the night sky, even days after the rite.Something had changed in the world. I could feel it in my old blood."Prince Caius," my advisor Elara said, entering my room with a bow. "The scouts have returned."I turned, keeping my face calm despite my desire. "And?""The Ruby Wolf lives. She escaped with the Cursed Alpha before the First Wolf fully emerged." Elara paused. "They've gone to ground in the old territories."Relief washed through me, though I was careful not to show it. Sienna was living. My plans could still unfold."And what of the Phantom Wolf?" I asked."Fighting his way back to them, my lord. He's... changed. The witnesses say his powers are returning."Interesting. Very interesting.I set down my glass. "Prepare the Council Chamber. It's time to make our move.""The Council won't like meeting with wolves," Elara warned.I smiled,

The Midnight Queen's POVI was no longer just the Queen. I felt him inside me, the First Wolf, his ancient power stretching through my blood like black ice. My followers knelt before me in the ruins of the rite site, their eyes wide with fear and wonder."Rise," I ordered, my voice now a strange blend of my own and something deeper, older. My fingers flexed, getting used to the new power flowing through me. The failed ritual hadn't been a total disaster after all. Though Sienna and her protectors had fled, the gate had opened just enough to let part of the god through.Into me."My Queen," Isolde, my faithful witch, approached carefully. "What are your orders?"I smiled, feeling my face crack slightly at the edges. The magic was still settling, changing me."The Ruby Wolf thinks she's safe," I said, walking toward the center of the area where Zeke had disappeared. "She thinks her brother's sacrifice stopped us."I laughed, the sound echoing strangely through the trees. Several of my f

Zeke's POVI floated in darkness, neither dead nor alive. The silver knife that pierced my chest had torn me from my body, but something else had happened too. Instead of dying, I became something new, a guardian of the gate."Sienna," I whispered into the void. My sister's name rang around me.The gate pulsed behind me, a crack of red light barely contained. I could feel the First Wolf pushing against it, trying to find any crack. My sacrifice had stopped the ritual, but not totally. Part of the old god had escapedinto the Midnight Queen.I reached out with my mind, looking for Sienna. We were twins, linked by blood even before birth. That bond stayed, maybe even stronger now that I existed between worlds. There! A spark of warmth in the endless cold. I followed it like a light.Sienna is sleeping, I realized as I slipped into her dreams. She lay in an unfamiliar bed, in what looked like a vampire palace. Kieran watched over her, his face tight with worry. Nearby, the vampire prince

Darius's POVMy wrists burned against the silver chains. Each breath pulled the metal tighter, reminding me of my failure.I'd been caught. The dungeon beneath Kieran's house reeked of fear and old blood. Other prisoners had died here, their terror still sticking to the stone walls. Soon, I might join them."Comfortable?" Ronan's cold voice came from the shadows. The Phantom Wolf stepped into view, a small bottle in his hand. The green liquid inside glowed softly. My stomach twisted. Truth potion. Brewed from moonflower and silver dust – painful for werewolves, and impossible to resist."The Alpha will be here soon," Ronan said, setting the bottle on a small table. "Enjoy your last moments of keeping secrets."I spat on the floor. "I have nothing to hide."Ronan laughed. "We caught you sending messages to the Midnight Syndicate. Your scent was all over the dead messenger wolf we found at the border."I said nothing. That had been sloppy, but not my biggest mistake. My real mistake had

Isolde's POVMy fingers trembled as I put the final crystal in the circle. The tracking spell was nearly complete. All I needed was one drop of my blood to trigger it.The small cabin the Queen had given me sat at the edge of the Syndicate's land. Far enough from prying eyes, close enough to keep my cover. Moonlight streamed through the windows, casting long shadows across my desk.I pricked my finger with a silver needle and watched as a perfect crimson drop fell onto the center crystal. It glowed bright purple, then faded to a quivering blue. The other crystals lit up in sequence, making a map of energy in the air.There. Three bright spots of light – Kieran, Ronan, and Caius. All still at the Shadowfang house. And between them, the brilliant red glow that was Sienna.I smiled. The Queen would be pleased with my report.A floorboard creaked behind me.I spun around, magic crackling at my fingers, ready to strike.Elena, the pack's doctor and witch, stood in my doorway. My body felt wrong caught between human and wolf, the silver poison still burning in my blood despite Sienna's healing. "Run," Sienna whispered again. But I wasn't going anywhere. Not this time. The Queen raised her hands to her mask, fingers wrapping around its sides. The forest seemed to hold its breath. Then a howl cut through the night my Beta, Rafe, calling the pack to war. The Queen's hands froze. Her head tilted, listening. "Your wolves come, Alpha," she said, voice like ice sliding over stone. "But they won't save you." With a wave of her hand, darkness overtook the clearing. I felt something sharp slice across my chest claws or a blade, I couldn't tell. Sienna cried out somewhere to my left. Ronan shouted. Then the darkness lifted, and the Queen was gone. "Is everyone alive?" I asked, putting my hand to the fresh cut on my chest. Sienna appeared at my side, her

Ronan's POV I ran through the forest, following Sienna as she chased after Kieran's howl. My side still burned where her fire had healed my wound not with pain, but with a strange warmth that spread through my blood like liquid gold. "Slow down," I called. "We need a plan." She glanced back at me, her red hair a flame in the moonlight. "There's no time." But I saw the fear in her eyes. Fear not for herself, but for Kieran. Something twisted in my chest. Jealousy? I pushed it away. I had no right to feel jealous not when I'd been sent to kill her. Not when I'd betrayed her once already, even if I couldn't remember doing it. Zeke caught up to us, feeling the spot on his head where he'd been struck. "Sienna, Ronan's right. Darius is setting a trap." She stopped suddenly, turning to face us. "I know. But I can't leave Kieran to die just because it might be dangerous." "Why?" I asked, the word leaving before I could stop it. "Why risk your life for him?" Her eyes met mine, and for

Sienna's POV I woke with a gasp, dirt and pine needles sticking to my cheek. Stars glittered overhead through a cover of trees. My body ached as if I'd been thrown from a great height, and maybe I had been. The cave was gone. The trial was over. But the face I'd seen the true enemy behind the Queen's mask burned in my mind like a brand. "Impossible," I whispered, pushing myself to my knees. My head spun with the movement, and I clutched at a nearby tree root to balance myself. It couldn't be true. And yet, deep down, I knew it was. The person behind everything, the hunts, the lies, the manipulation was someone I trusted. Someone who had led me. Isolde. My boss. The Black Moon Witch herself. A sharp pain shot through my wrist. I looked down to see a new mark forming on my skin a perfect crescent moon wrapped around a ruby-colored flame. The mark of the Second Trial. "I passed," I whispered, tracing the symbol with my thumb. "But at what cost?" Memories flashed through my mind

Sienna's POVI awoke to darkness and the smell of pine. My head throbbed as I sat up, trying to remember what had happened after...After seeing a face that shouldn't exist."Hello?" I called out, my voice echoing in the stillness. No answer.I pushed myself to my feet, wincing at the ache in my muscles. The last thing I remembered was running north with Ronan, then the attack. Queen's killers everywhere. And thena cloaked person.A small flame sparked to life in my palm, throwing eerie shadows on stone walls. I was in some kind of cave, but not one I recognized."The Ruby Wolf awakens."I spun around, flame burning brighter as I faced the speaker. A tall woman with silver hair and black eyes stood at the opening to a tunnel I hadn't noticed before."Who are you?" I asked. "Where's Ronan?"The woman smiled, showing pointed teeth. "I am Nyx, guardian of the Second Trial. Your companions are not here. In the Heart's Trial, you walk alone."My stomach dropped. "The Second Celestial Trial

Kieran's POVPain shot through my side as I tried to sit up. The wound from Darius's deception was healing, but too slowly. Three days, and I still couldn't shift without reopening it."Stay down," Elena directed, pushing me back onto the furs. "Your stubbornness won't make you heal faster."I growled but didn't fight her. My Beta was right, as usual. Our temporary camp buzzed with activity outside my tent. Guards shouted directions, preparing for another attack. Darius's warning had saved lives, but I still couldn't bring myself to visit him in the medics' tent. Some betrayals cut too deep."You have a visitor," Elena said quietly. "Should I send him away?""Who?" I asked, wincing as I changed position."Your uncle."I closed my eyes briefly. Alaric was the last person I wanted to see, but he was also the only one who might have answers."Let him in."Elena nodded and stepped outside. Moments later, my father's brother entered the tent. His silver hair was wild, his eyes haunted. He

Isolde's POVThe mirror in my hands showed me nothing but darkness. For three days, I'd tried to find Sienna through my scrying glass, but she stayed hidden even from my magic.Smart girl.I set down the mirror and looked around my small tent. Herbs hung from the roof, their scents mixing with the smoke from my protection candles. After fleeing the temple, I'd created this small space on the outskirts of Kieran's new camp, though I wasn't exactly welcome. No one trusted a witch who had once served the Midnight Queen.A sudden wind extinguished my lights, plunging the tent into blackness. The air grew thick with power that wasn't mine."Show yourselves," I ordered, calling a small flame to my palm.Three hooded figures emerged from the shadows, materializing like smoke. My sister witches from the Black Moon Coven.Lyra, tall and stern. Mara, round-faced and seemingly gentle. Thea, silent and dangerous."Sisters," I greeted carefully. Darius's POVCold stone pressed against my back as I stared at the ceiling of my jail cell. Three days since they'd thrown me in here. Three days since everything fell apart. The pack jail smelled like mold and old blood. My blood. The silver-laced bars had burned my hands when I'd tested them the first day.No one came except to slide boring food through the slot. No visitors. No trial. Just silence.I'd wronged Kieran, and now both sides had abandoned me.My ribs ached where Elena had kicked me after they'd caught me trying to signal the Syndicate during the escape from the temple. The memory of Kieran's facethe hurt that flashed before the ragewas worse than any physical pain."You were like a brother to me," he'd growled before turning away forever.A sound outside my cell made me sit up. Footsteps. Too light to be a guard."Who's there?" My voice cracked from disuse.A shadow moved beyond the bars, then a face appeared. Tomas. Another Beta from Kieran's inner circleand apparently

I had waited ages for this moment. The temple floor cracked wider beneath my feet as I drew more power. Puppet wolves fought the Alpha, the Phantom Wolf, and my grandson around me.
