Ellie

The ceremony was a blur.

Ellie had never imagined she'd get married in the first place so she'd never given much thought to what it would be like to stand up there in front of everyone and say those intimate words to a man, especially one she hadn't truly gotten to know yet.

But as she stood there, staring into River's eyes, repeating the words that the priest told her to say, she could've been rattling off a recipe or listing the names of the plants that grew in the woods around them. She wasn't paying any attention to what she was saying, not even a little bit.

It wasn't that she didn't mean them; she absolutely did. She was promising that she'd give this man everything she had for the rest of her life. That wasn't something she took lightly. It was just… everything around her seemed to get lost in the whirlwind while she and River were lost in one another. They may as well have been getting married in the eye of a hurricane.

The only part of the short ceremony she was certai

EllieIt was no secret to her that River was fond of the mountains. She hadn't realized, though, that he actually had a small retreat nestled in the woods near his favorite overlook. When he'd suggested they spend their wedding night there, Ellie had thought that would be perfect. She definitely didn't want them to spend their first night together in the same house with her father or his mother, and while Michael had provided some alternatives, like that he could spend the night in one of the cabins, this was better. They arrived at the cabin late that evening after several hours of dancing, dining, and visiting with their friends. Ellie's feet were sore from her heels, and her back was tired from standing so much, but she had a feeling that once they got inside, she wouldn't be so tired anymore. They wouldn't be staying there long--only that night and the next--then, they'd have to go home. They had a lot of work ahead of them, uniting their two packs and determining how they would g

RiverEllie had fallen asleep pretty quickly after they made love, but River lay awake, staring at her, thinking about everything that had happened. And one thing that had not. They were meant to mark one another that night, the very first time they made love to one another, but… she had looked so peaceful, enjoying it so much, He didn't want to bite her--even though every instinct in his body was telling him it was time. The thought of sinking his teeth into the soft flesh of her neck and shoulder seemed brutal, despite the fact that he'd been assured by nearly every single one of his married friends that it didn't hurt--much.Ellie had fallen asleep so quickly, River had to wonder if she even realized they hadn't done that important part of the mate bond. Would she wake up in the morning and remember, thinking that the reason she hadn't marked him was because he didn't love her--or didn't want to be with her?Of course he did want to be with her, in every way imaginable. Hopefully,

  • The Last Luna   Chapter 105: Surprise

EllieThe honeymoon ended far too soon. Not that she wasn't happy to be back in her pack, but that morning when River had loaded their bags into the car and drove them back to her village, Ellie couldn't help but think it had all ended too soon.He pulled into the driveway outside of her house. She fully expected Shelby and who knows who else to come running over, bombarding her with questions, wanting to look at the bite mark on her neck, but no one was there. A few people had waved at them as they'd driven in. But that was it.As soon as Ellie walked into her house, she knew that something was different. It was quiet--too quiet. There was an emptiness about it that she couldn't quite put her finger on. River walked in as Ellie was wandering from the living room into the dining room, trying to figure out what was different. "Is everything okay?" He set her bag down by the door, but she noticed he hadn't brought his in. Maybe he was going to go back to his pack for a while? To see hi

RiverSettling into his new role as Alpha of Swift Wolf, and having a new Luna to help him with his responsibilities for his own pack, Howling Moon, was an adjustment, but it wasn't something that River minded. After all, he got to spend almost every hour of every day with his beautiful wife, and that made the changes well worthwhile.Ellie seemed to be having more difficulties than he did. She was so used to handling all of the leadership duties for her pack that whenever someone came with an issue that was traditionally something the Alpha would handle, she'd forget that he was around and try to solve it herself--even when they were in his pack. Eventually, she'd remember that he also had a job and step back, but it always made River smile. She definitely knew what she was doing, though. In fact, he liked to watch how she handled certain situations. He learned a thing or two, especially when it came to listening to people explain the situation from their perspective. He tended to as

EllieLance's pack members were a lot rowdier than Ellie's. He'd called for everyone to meet them in the common meeting room, which was also their gymnasium where their training sessions took place. When they came in, many of them were loudly talking to one another, calling across the room, laughing like hyenas. Ellie exchanged a look with River, who shrugged and shook his head slowly. It was no wonder Lance was having trouble."All right, listen up!" Lance shouted. The room did not quiet. "Hey! Hey guys! Listen!" The talking continued. "Come on, guys! Be quiet!"Ellie stuck both of her pinky fingers into her mouth and whistled loudly. That got everyone's attention. River put a hand over his ear closest to her. "A little warning next time, please, babe?""Sorry," Ellie said, laughing at his reaction."Okay, listen!" Lance said again. "We know that there have been some problems with some of the new people getting along with those of you who have been here for a while. So I've asked the

RiverAfter a long day of hearing Lance's citizens vocalize their problems with their neighbors, River was glad to be back home with Ellie. One of their homes, anyway. They were keeping a house in each of their packs. He thought there might be a way to unite the packs and build a house in the middle, but there were several miles between their two villages, even though their packlands were near one another with no other packs in between. If they tried to move their home to a more central location, they might end up not being effective in either pack, and that simply wouldn't do.His mother had moved out, just like Michael had. It was strange, pulling into the driveway of the house that he'd shared with his mom for his entire life, knowing that she wasn't there. Granted, she was only a few houses down and a mind-link message away if he needed her, but it wasn't the same as actually having her down the hallway. But it did give River and Ellie a lot more privacy."I'm so tired," Ellie sai

  • The Last Luna   Chapter 109: An Unexpected Visitor

EllieWaking up in River's arms was something Ellie was finally starting to get used to. By the end of their first month as a married couple, they were finally starting to get into a routine. The nights they spent at her home in her pack territories and the nights they spent in his home in his pack territories were becoming predictable, which was a good thing. Their pack members needed to know when they would be there and be available to meet to discuss any problems, and it was particularly important for their Betas because then they knew when they would be in charge of the pack and when they could relax a little bit.As the sunlight filtered in through Ellie's bedroom window, she stretched and checked to see if River was awake yet. His eyes opened, and he smiled at her. "Good morning, baby.""Good morning," Ellie said. "Sorry if I woke you up.""It's okay. Waking up to see your beautiful blue eyes sparkling always makes it worth it." He leaned over and brushed a lock of her blonde ha

EllieThe words coming from the other woman's mouth were in English, so Ellie should've had absolutely no trouble understanding them, but even a few seconds after they'd rolled off of Sylvia's tongue, Ellie was having trouble processing them.Thinking she must've heard something wrong, she said, "I'm sorry. You're a what?"Sylvia laughed. It sounded like the tinkle of soft bells. "A Luna, dear. Just like you."Ellie found herself nodding, but she still didn't know how to respond--with words."I know you thought you were the only one, but I assure you, up north, there are more Lunas. Just not many. My father is an Alpha, you see. Which means, I am fit to be a Luna. I will marry and my husband will become an Alpha. It's just… I am not sure where to begin. You see, my father is ruling our pack, and I simply haven't had the opportunity to learn how to be a proper Luna. I was hoping that you could teach me, and that, perhaps, you could introduce me to some of the Alphas that took part in y

  • The Last Luna   Chapter 150: The Moon Goddess Ball

EllieThe string quartet was playing a soft, slow song that seemed to make the silver stars above them twinkle even more somehow as Ellie stood admiring the scene. She'd been right. Everything had come together perfectly, and all across the dance floor, couple after couple had paired off. Her students were finding their fated mates. Alphas and Betas from packs far and wide were coming together with women that had trained in her school."Well, what do you think, beautiful?" River asked, stepping over from where he'd been speaking to another Alpha who'd come with his wife and son, who was their age and looking for a wife so he could take over the pack. "I would say this is a huge success.""Definitely," Ellie agreed. "I see so many people dancing together and falling in love.""I know," River said. "Look at Sarah and Alpha Rob over there. And Nelly and Alpha Lance."Ellie had noticed both of those couples. Sarah looked so lovely in her red dress, and Nelly in her blue one, gazing into L

  • The Last Luna   Chapter 149: Finishing Touches

EllieThe final touches for the Moon Goddess Ball were falling into place, and Ellie couldn't believe how beautiful the event center looked. As she looked around at all of the decorations, her heart fluttered in her chest. She could only imagine how many couples might fall in love in there tonight. It hadn't been easy, getting everything ready for the event, but along with Michael, River, Shelby, and several other volunteers, Ellie had gotten it done. Not only had they put together a beautiful event center, but they'd also managed to get several Alphas and Betas from packs far and wide to commit to attending, and for the past several days, they'd been arriving. Many of them were staying in the cabins in the pack village, the same ones that the Alphas who had competed in her contest had stayed in.Ellie pushed those thoughts out of her mind. It all seemed like ancient history now. The bachelors remaining from that contest would be back that night, still looking for love, though there w

  • The Last Luna   Chapter 148: Plans

EllieThe idea of having a Moon Goddess Ball with the women she'd been training to become Lunas was ultimately the idea behind the training to begin with, so when River came in and suggested that they have the grand opening of the new event center be just that, a Moon Goddess Ball for the women in her class, Ellie couldn't believe her ears."Do you think that's a good idea?" River asked her."No, I don't think that's a good idea," Ellie told him, watching his face fall."You don't?" River blinked a few times. It was clear he was searching for something to say that wouldn't offend her."No. I think… it's a great idea," she said, winking at him.A smile broke across his face, wide enough to match her own. "Oh, he said. Good. I was afraid you were going to tell me that it was a bad idea.""No, I definitely think we should do that," she said. "In fact, I think we should start planning it right now. When is the full moon?"River pulled his phone out of his pocket and checked the calendar.

  • The Last Luna   Chapter 147: The Event Center

River Rebuilding after the fire wasn't easy, but it was something that brought the entire pack together. In a way, River was slightly glad, though he'd never say it out loud. Supervising the project while Michael recovered from his injuries was interesting. River invited some of the members of his own pack to come over and help. At first, it seemed like there was a bit of a divide between the two groups, but once the "outsiders" proved their value, everyone began to work smoothly together. It took quite a while to clear away the debris from the old event center. After that, they planned a new one. This one was better. It was bigger with more rooms for different events. River had the pack architect draw it out with input from several of the pack elders and other important members of the pack, including Michael, who was out of the hospital by then and staying with Ellie and River so that the pack Luna could spend as much time as possible with her dad. River knew it had really shaken El

  • The Last Luna   Chapter 146: Michael's Love

EllieIt took a few days before Michael was able to come out of the coma, but part of that was because the healers thought it would help him heal if they kept him in a medically induced coma, so by the time he finally opened his eyes three days after the attack, Ellie was thrilled. She was also exhausted, but seeing her father's eyes register on her own made all of that fade away momentarily. "Dad?" she said, looking at his familiar face. "How are you feeling?""Ellie?" he said, his voice weak. He still had an oxygen mask over his face, but all of the tubes and other wires had been removed, other than the monitor hooked up to his finger and the IV he had in his arm in case he needed more medicine. "Where's Michaela?""She's at home with River," Ellie said, giving him a reassuring smile. She wasn't sure how much of the battle he would remember. "She's perfectly fine."Her father's head rolled to the side a bit as he released a sigh of relief. "Oh, thank the Moon Goddess," he said. "I w

  • The Last Luna   Chapter 145: A Night in the Healing Center

Ellie Watching the healers work to bring her father back from the dead was like watching a dream for Ellie. She stood there with Michaela in her arms, River's hand on her shoulder, thinking none of this could be happening, that it had to be a dream. But it wasn't. It was real. Her daughter had really been ripped from her bed, and now, the same people who were responsible for taking her child from her may have succeeded in taking her dad.Ellie couldn't imagine what her life would be like without her father in it. For as long as she could remember, he'd been there for her. Like a rock, like the brick wall she needed to hold her up anytime she felt like she couldn't stand on her own, he was always there. Even though she had River now, it wasn't the same. No matter how old a person got, they always needed a parent. But if Michael died, she wouldn't have any parents at all. She'd be an orphan. While she could imagine that her father would be happy to finally be reunited with her mother,

  • The Last Luna   Chapter 144: Alpha Emergency

RiverSeeing Ellie fighting all of those rogues by herself was enough to make River kick himself into a gear he didn't even know that he had. But when he saw his wife carrying his daughter away to safety, he knew that everything was going to be all right, especially since the rogues were grossly outnumbered. There was just the matter of making them pay for the horrendous atrocities they had committed. Not only had they set the village event center on fire, which may have already spread to other buildings, but they'd also violated his home, stolen his daughter, and taken her off in the middle of the night.None of these wolves were walking away from this fight. Not even the huge male that was bearing down on him now.River didn't care that the male seemed to be twice his size. With the anger boiling inside of him from everything he'd seen, River lowered himself to the ground and waited for the wolf to come at him. When the large wolf's teeth snapped at him, River dodged to the side and

  • The Last Luna   Chapter 143: Saving Michaela

EllieThe fact that she'd jumped right over the Omega's head would buy her some time, but only a matter of seconds. He would turn around and be right after her. So… Ellie had to make those moments count. She needed to head right for the female holding her baby and attack before she had the chance to register what was happening.Ellie landed hard on the ground from her leap and ignored the searing pain that shot up her right front paw. She continued to run, registering the look of fear in the female's eyes. It was only there for a split second, but it was there long enough for Ellie to know that she had the upper hand. She aimed low, darting around for the back of the female, away from her baby. She managed to sink her teeth into the female's leg, causing her to yelp. When she did so, she had to let go of the baby blanket. Michaela tumbled to the ground, but it wasn't much of a drop. Still, the baby screamed in fear and possibly a bit of pain. Ellie considered her chances of grabbing h

  • The Last Luna   Chapter 142: Closing In

RiverLeaving the fire to run out into the night, searching for his daughter was enough to make River's heart catch in his throat. How was it possible that someone had taken his baby from her warm bed in the middle of the night? As he tore through the forest, running in the direction his wife told him she was tracking the culprits in, he tried not to think about the fact that he'd been suspecting something like this in the back of his mind for some time. Ever since the rogues started getting close to the village, he'd been wondering if they'd try a stunt like this. If he'd been able to put the pieces of the puzzle together, if he'd thought it was truly possible that they'd try to take his daughter, he would've been more vigilant. Now, he was running as fast as he could, praying that Ellie or someone else saw them soon.If they found them, they would stop them. They just had to find them."River! I see them!"Ellie's voice in his head gave him hope. River's breath stuttered. "Where?" h
