"I had this conversation with my mom and we got to talk about Julian. I don't know how long we can keep up with whatever life that Carlos is providing us with. My mom is excited that I am turning eighteen very soon. How do I tell her that I have transformed since I was fourteen? There is nothing to transforming. How do I tell my own mother that I have control over how and when I transform? How do I tell her that I am different?" He asked his friend.
"You don't. Transform when you turn eighteen. Transform at the first full moon and no, do not jump into your wolf form they way you do when we are about to race. That would give her questions. Transform the regular way. Act like you are in pain until you are a full wolf. I still think that there is something that your parents are not telling you. I don't think it is safe or wise even to keep any of this to yourself any longer. You have to talk to your mom about it at some point" Bennie said to him.
"How do you want me to tell her that my friend and I were messing with dark magic and I was affected by it?" Alexander asked him.
"I don't think it is black magic. If you were affected, why wasn't I affected too? I was doing some reading and..."
"And here you go again. What crazy theory did you come up with this time?" Alexander asked him.
"It is not crazy and maybe if you just listened, you might actually get to find out what the hell is wrong with you!" Bennie said to him
"Alright. You have fifteen minutes before coach gets here. Enlighten me on what is wrong with me" he said with a smile.
"As I was saying, I did some reading and I came across something called the burning flame pack in one of the books in the library. I decided to read some more on that and I abandoned the moon curse for..."
"You abandoned our group project that is due in three days?" Alexander said with surprise.
"Hold on, scold me later. This is more important than whatever school presentation we can possibly have. The burning flame pack are the rarest and strongest set of wolves to ever walk the surface of the earth. They were unique. The bright red eyes, the early transformation, the super speed. They are all qualities of a burning wolf. The only thing is you have not majestically walked out of a burning flame after transformation" Bennie said to him.
"And that is because I am not one of them. I don't even have super speed. Yes, I am fast but I don't have super speed and everybody knows that the Burning flame wolf is a myth. They might have existed before but not anymore. I think the black magic might have affected you in a different way" Alexander said to him.
"What way?" Bennie asked him.
"You are crazy. I mean, you are going bonkers. The magic made you lose your sanity and the moon knows what else you lost that day" Alexander said, giggling.
"I am serious. What the hell is wrong with you?" Bennie asked him.
"I know that you are looking out for me but I don't believe in fairy tales. I just want to get this over with and move on from it. No more fairy tale talk. We have a presentation that is due in a couple of days and I really need you to focus on that and let me handle this myself" Alexander said to him.
Bennie sighed because he knew that Alexander wasn't listening to him. Their coach came and they got down to practice. After the practice, Alex headed home immediately. He didn't want his mom to worry about him and he had a presentation to prepare for. He got in, had a quick shower and got down to his books. When he was done reading, he decided to take a nap. A nap was something he wouldn't take because of the visions that came with it. He closed his eyes and he was in another world entirely. He stood outside and in front of him stood a house that kept burning. He could hear screams from inside of the house but he was glued to where he was standing. He wanted to help but he couldn't. He tried to scream for help but he was on a lonely road and from what he could tell, there was nobody on the road. He looked around and saw a woman waking down the road. She stopped when she got to him.
"There are people in the house. Help them" Alexander said to her.
All the woman did was stare at him. He wondered if she was deaf because she showed no sign to respond to what he was saying. He looked at her and repeated what he said earlier but she still stared at him. Alexander looked at her in the eyes and saw that her eyes held no life but for some reasons, he felt like he knew her. She turned around to continue her journey when Alexander held her hand in anger.
"I said that there is somebody in that house that is on fire and I can't move so you either help me move so I can help them out or you help them out yourself" Alexander said to her.
She looked at him and her eyes were bright red. He let her go immediately but she didn't move an inch from where she was. For some reasons, he felt connected to her. A strong wind blew past and Alexander closed his eyes to protect them from the sand that blew with the wind. When it stopped, the woman was gone and the house had stopped burning. All that was left of the house was were just ashes. His feet moved and he walked towards the house. He found a small hole in the flooring of the house. The house was burned to ashes but the floor was made of wood. Why wasn't it consumed by the fire? He touched the hole and the floor creaked. He knew that it wasn't just a normal floor. He opened it and saw a basket there. He could hear the heartbeat of a baby. He was going to open the basket when he heard footsteps. He jumped into his wolf form and ran off. he kept running until he got lost and that was when he woke up. He found himself naked with pieces of shredded clothes littered all over his bed. A knock came on the door.
"Don't come in!" he screamed.
"Okay. Mom asked me to call you down for dinner" she said.
He sighed. That was his sister, Arielle.
"I would be down in five minutes, thanks" he said as he rubbed his forehead.
He looked at his clothes, what was left of it. His dreams were starting to affect him in the physical world. That means he must have transformed in the physical world when he transformed in his dreams. He pulled out his phone from his bag and dropped a text for Bennie.
"We need to talk. How soon can you get here?" He texted.
"It is almost time for bed. I don't even think you should be on your phone right now" Bennie replied immediately.
"It is important and you don't even sleep until midnight so what the hell are you talking about?" Alexander texted back.
"I can't see you tonight but I will, tomorrow or Monday. Whatever it is, I am sure that it can wait" Bennie texted back.
"Alexander!!!" he heard his mom call from the living room.
"I would see you on Monday" Alexander said out of frustration.
He got up from his bed and got dressed before heading down to the dining room. He got there and he saw the frown on his mom's face. He apologized and sat down. Dinner was unusually silent and he didn't know why. He looked at his mom from time to time and he could tell that she had a lot on her mind. If Bennie was right then he would have lost of questions. He looked at her again and she looked at him. If he was a burning flame wolf then she was obviously not his biological mother. He had seen her in her wolf form thousands of times and she was an ordinary wolf, so was his father. If they were not his parents, who were his biological parents? Something was not adding up. He sighed and he rubbed his forehead.
"Are you okay?" his mom asked him.
"Yeah, I am. I just have a lot on my mind. I have a presentation on Tuesday and I am not ready for it. I would probably have to stay up all night to read for it but it is nothing I can't handle" he said to his mom.
"Are you sure?" she asked him.
"Yeah, totally" he said to her.
He hated lying to his mom but how was he going to tell her that he had listened to Bennie and he thinks that he is from the burning flame pack? They weren't even a pack. They were a family of wolves that were supposed to be a myth so why was he one of them? If he was from that family, who were these people that he stayed with? Who were his real family? Who was his mom? All these questions ran through his mind but he had one question that stood out in his head. Who was the woman in his dream? Why was she walking past that lonely road? why did he feel like he knew her from somewhere? Why did he feel a connection to her? Why did her eyes glow like his did when he was upset? Alexander could tell that he had made her upset and that was why she had reacted that way. That was why she had stared at him with her eyes glowing.
"Alex?" his sister called.
“Yeah?” he said as she looked at him.
“Mom has been talking to you” she said to him.
He looked at his mom and she looked back at him. He could see the fear and worry in her eyes. Why was she so scared? Did she know about it? Was she aware that he wasn’t her child? He didn’t know what to say to her. He knew that his mom wasn’t going to lie to him, not now, not ever. He sighed and he looked at her.
“I am sorry, mom. I just have a lot on my mind. I would be fine after the presentation is over. What were you saying?” he asked her.
“I was saying that your father wouldn’t be home until next week. He would be back before your birthday, hopefully. He called to apologize this evening after you left for training. Are you sure that you are good? You keep zoning out on me” she said to him.
“I am fine, mom! I just need need some time to process things. I would give dad a call before I sleep or tomorrow morning” he said to his mom.
“Alright, if you say so. You know that you can talk to me if anything is bothering you, right?” she said to him
“I know mom and I would let you know if anything becomes to heavy for me to handle but I think you should focus on Arielle for now. She is just eleven and she has access to the internet. You should really monitor what she watches because she already started cussing and she is just eleven! I don’t even think she should have a phone” Alexander said as he turned to look at his sister who already has a frown on her face.
“What do you mean by I shouldn’t have access to the internet? This conversation is not even about me to start with. It is about you! So don’t try to make it about me” Arielle said to him.His mom watched them argue and she smiled at them. There was no way that they would ever grow apart. She looked at them as they kept arguing. She stopped them later and then when they were done with dinner, she decided to let Alexander go and she did the dishes instead. The next day unfolded quickly as she headed up to wake up her kids. She went to Alex’s door first and realized that his door was locked which was something that he would rarely do. She tried the handle before she knocked. “Alex? Are you okay?” she asked him.“Mom?” she heard.*****After dinner, he headed to bed. He tried to keep his eyes open because he wasn’t mentally prepared for another nightmare or vision but as soon as he got on his bed, his eyes started to close. He closed his eyes and he found himself on the lonely road agai
He touched it and looked at his sister. He started to give it some thoughts. He looked back at the drawings as he flipped the pages of the book. He rubbed his forehead and he looked at her.“Let me guess, you don’t remember drawing it” she said to him.“No, I don’t. It is almost like I didn’t do it. I remember seeing it in my book. I just don’t remember drawing it” he said to his sister.“I know. It is pretty obvious from the way you look at it. We have to go. Mom would be here soon and she would want to know what kept you up here with me. I don’t want you to have to tell another lie” Arielle said to him.Alexander nodded at his sister and he headed down to the dining table with his sister. After breakfast, he headed to his room because he needed some alone time. He decided not to lock the door anymore. It was easier if his mom walked in on him in his wolf form than for him to tell her that he was already a wolf and there was no big deal to it. His sister said that he was going to tra
Bennie took the drawing pad from him and he flipped it open. He didn’t see anything out of the ordinary in it but his mind told him to go on. He did and he got to the part where the drawings of the burning flame wolves were. He was shocked to his bones because the drawings were too accurate, too detailed and it shouldn’t be possible because the last of the pack was dead before Alexander was born.“That was the same reaction I had when I saw those drawings in my book, signed with my name. I don’t remember drawing it and before you ask, no. I couldn’t have possibly drawn it in my sleep because I don’t sleep with my drawing pad on my bed. I always clear them out because I am always scared that I would probably tear them while I am asleep but they are there, signed with my name, in my handwriting, I drew it. I just don’t remember drawing it. Arielle found it and kept it which was a good thing because if she didn’t take it, my mom would have taken it. So maybe, I am one of them. I just don
She looked at the sweater as she said some words. She looked up at Alex and she shook her head.“What is that supposed to mean?” Alex asked her.“The person you are looking for doesn’t exist. I could use a blood spell to find her if you want. It would be stronger than a tracking spell” she said to him.Alexander was about to agree to it but a thought crossed his mind. What if he wasn’t her blood brother? What if they had different blood running through their veins? Was he ready to find out the truth? He shook his head.“Try again, you must have missed something” Alexander said to her.“I am sure that I did not miss anything. I think it would be faster if you just give me your blood” she said to him.“No! Try again. Something is wrong, just please, try again” he said to her.“Alexander, are you okay?” Bennie asked him.“I am, I just don’t think she should be doing blood magic” Alexander said to him.“i could try again and then if I still can’t find her then we might have to consider bl
Alexander looked at Carson and he felt Bennie touch his shoulder. He was just seconds away from going all full wolf on all of them. He looked at Bennie and Bennie could see the struggle. He shookhisheadandBennienoddedathim. Alexander sighed before carrying his sister and heading out of the palace. He felt his phone vibrate in his pocket and he pulled it out. It was his mom. He totally forgot to call her back. She must have been so worried. He sighed and he picked up her call.“Hey, mom” he said, trying to sound as calm as possible.“Alex, where have you been and why aren't you home with your sister? I called the school already and they said that you already left with your sister. Where the hell are you?” she asked him.Alex could tell that his mom was furious and the last thing he wanted was to tell her what was going on with him. He knew that his mom was going to take it up and then there would be a bigger fight. She would cause trouble and it would land them in a mess that they migh
“You told me to look out for her but how am I supposed to do that? I don’t know how to. How do I look out for someone that doesn’t want to see the truth? She believes that he didn’t kill you, that you were murdered and you didn’t make it. That wasn’t what happened but she doesn’t want to believe that your husband took your life and left me alone in this world without you. If I can find that diary, maybe I can prove to her that our father is not the saint she thinks he is. Our father has gone after someone that would not let it go. His name is Alexander Mayson. I don’t know what it is but there is something about him. Alexander is different and I know it. There is something about him, about his aura that is just different. Plus, he is mated to Cathy and I am very sure that he hates her and anything that has to do with our family. Dad went after his sister and he buried her alive in our garden. I don’t know what she did or why he did it but she is just eleven, mom. She is a child and he
Cathy was frozen to the spot she was in. She couldn’t believe all she was hearing. She couldn’t believe that her brother was right. She had thought that Carson hated her father because he was always so hard on him but Cathy was shocked. Her father had been so hard on him because Carson knew the truth. She knew that she had to get out of here before anything else. She needed to reach her brother. She needed help.“The house is awfully quiet. Where are he kids?” Matilda asked.“I have no idea. I have to go out now. I still have some official matters to take care of. Do you want to come with?” Carlos asked his sister.“I would love to. Besides, there is nothing for me to do here” Matilda said to him as she grabbed her purse.Cathy waited until she could no longer hear their footsteps anymore. She dropped her phone on the floor. She had recorded everything that she had heard for evidence but how was she going to go about it? Her father was the judge, the jury and the executioner. How was
“Punish? Alex, I know that you are trying to defend her but she didn’t even let us explain. Did you notice that we didn’t get a chance to explain why we were not home on time? She just concluded that we were up to no good and she grounds us for two months! How does that work exactly?” Arielle said to him.“She would let us off the hook before the next two months. All you have to do is stay on your best behavior. We would be fine, really. At least she is still letting us go to school. C’mon. Let it be. We would be fine in the end. We should really get down for dinner so that we don’t get into any other trouble” Alex said to her.She rolled her eyes and walked out of the door. All Alexander could do was sigh. Suddenly, there was this responsibility of protecting everybody around him. At first it was his sister, then it was his mom. Either ways, the more he tried to protect someone, the more somebody kept getting hurt. He didn’t know if what he was doing was right anymore. He pulled out
“You look like you had fun” Lois said, turning to look at them.“We took a while, I’m sorry. We just got really distracted with the shopping and time flew past. You already got dinner” Alexander said as he entered with their dinner packs and dropped it on the center table.“Well, at least we have something for the road now” Arielle said as she headed up the stairs.“Someone set your parents house on fire” Bennie said to him immediately he heard the door close.“I guess news do travel fast in the valley” Alexander said to him.“You know already?” Lois asked him.“Yes, Arielle and I started the fire. We did it” Alexander said, dropping on the sofa and taking a slice of the pizza in front of him.“I thought we were supposed to be keeping a low profile! How is that a low profile in any way?” Bennie asked him.“Arielle needed to do it and she did it. Also, according to what you just said, nobody knows who did it. That is the point. We would be out of here in less than ten hours. What do we
Alexander waited until she was in the house before he drove off. He and Arielle headed for their house first. When they got there, he noticed that she sat still, not making any attempt to leave the car. He touched her hand and she looked at him. She had tears in her eyes and Alexander sighed. He didn’t know what to tell her to make her feel better. How could she feel better? The last time that she was in the house was when her mom was being killed. He nodded at her and cleared his throat.“You really don’t have to do this. We can’ always do this another day” Alexander said to her.“There is no other day. We have to do this now. I need to see the condition of the place. I need to know how much damage the did to the memories left in the house. I need to see if mom and dad still have anything in the house, something can take along with me to remind me of their sacrifice” she said to him.“I don’t think you would ever forget it but there are a lot of things in the house. I am sure that yo
That was one of the few times that Cathy had ever spoken up to her father. Carlos had always seen her as the quiet one in the bunch. He never imagined that she was capable of the things that she spoke off and even now, Carlos still found it unbelievable. She walked into her brother’s room and sat on his bed. She wanted to tell him about her endeavors with their father but she changed her mind. Sometimes, the best way to protect somebody was to keep them in the dark. She knew that her father was going to come for her when the time was right and she wanted her brother as far away from her father as possible. Carson might hate his father but one thing was sure. He had his father anger and his father’s determination. The only difference was that Carson had his mom to build his foundation so he had the opportunity to learn how to channel is anger to the right things. Carson stood for what was right and he fought for what he believed in. She looked at him one more time. She was determined t
“What do you want me to do?” Cathy asked him. “Delay her. Just give Alexander a couple of minutes” Carson said to her. “No! I already did what I needed to do. Meet me by midnight and we can talk about what happens from there. Deny that I was ever here to your aunt and your father. I have to go” Alexander said as he closed his eyes. Carson was blind but he could tell that Alexander had left. He felt another magic and he knew that it was his aunt. The front door opened and he could sense the disappointment in the room as she walked in and walked towards the window, looking out of the window. “Did you not learn the courtesy of knocking before you enter a room that doesn’t belong to you?” Carson asked her rudely. “Who was here?” she asked him. “My sister. I don’t think she is that small. You can’t miss her. Besides, she is still here. What do you mean by who was here?” Carson asked her. “Someone else was here. There is the lingering energy of a different presence. My magic is pickin
She nodded at him and took a deep breath. She might not have been in her house but she knew that she was the same person, no matter the location and if anybody came for her or her brother, she was going to do what was necessary for the both of them. She wasn’t sure if she was supposed to be watching over Bennie though. Bennie was old enough to take care of himself and she would rather be out in the middle of the night with her brother than here, playing baby sitter but Alexander called the shots and she was not going to argue with that. She turned away and headed back to the room.“When do you want us to make contact with Carson and his brother?” Lois asked him.“Can we do it now? I want to make sure that they have enough time to do whatever it is that they need to do. Carson is blind and there might be some sort of delay with his own movement. This would put most of the work load on Cathy. If we can give them an early notice, that woile be helpful” Alexander said to her.“I would get
“I don’t think it would kill me to test that theory” he said to her. “No, it wouldn’t but we would not be testing that theory without magic for back up. So, until we can get Lois on board with this new agenda of yours, nobody is stabbing anybody in the chest just to prove a theory” Bennie said, his eyes still closed and his back turned to them. “Sorry” Arielle said with a laugh. “Whatever” he said back. “So how is your real mom like?” Arielle asked her brother. “Dead. She is cold. She definitely doesn’t give me the information that I need. She tells me what she thinks I need to know and leaves me to find out the rest for myself. Sometimes it is a good thing, sometimes it is a bad thing. I just go with whatever flow is there and get the job done. I know she wants me to do something but I don’t know what it is. When the time is right, I would probably find out too” he said to her. “Does she know where mom is?” Arielle asked her. “I don’t know. I didn’t ask her. I have never asked
He dropped on the bed where his sister slept. He touched her hair softly and she curled to his touch. He could tell that she felt safe, something that none of them had felt in a very long time. He didn’t know if that was a good thing or a bad thing. They had arrived at the Southern Crest Valley around six in the morning and now, they were comfortably tucked in Bennie’s house. Everybody was sound asleep, everybody but him. He couldn’t bring himself to sleep. This was the fifth day and he still had two days left before he went for Carson and Cathy but he knew that two days was a lot of time. They could be ready to move tonight but he didn’t want them doing that. He wondered what his grandfather’s reaction would be when he walked into the house with everybody else. The surprise on his face, the questions in his eyes. Well, they had nowhere else to go and it was his fault that they were in this mess so it was only reasonable that he took up the responsibility to keep them safe. He stood u
“Do you think that we would be making a mistake if we go with him?” Cathy asked her brother. “We have always wanted to leave here. Don’t grow cold feet now. We had plans to run away even before Alexander showed up. If we don’t leave now, we would never get the chance to do so again. We need to move as fast as possible now that we have someone that is willing to help us move” Carson said to her. “What if father comes after us? What if he catches up with us and he kills us off the same way he did with mom? We may not be living our best lives here but at least we are alive. Isn’t that what is important? I know that we had plans, too many of them but right now, this looks like a dangerous gamble. Dad is a monster. Who knows what he would do when he finds out that we are missing? Maybe this is where we ought to be” Cathy said to her brother. “Here? What the hell do you mean by that? If you want to stay here with your father then be my guest! I wouldn’t be doing that with you. I am leavi
“Alexander? Did you hear me? Matilda is closing in on us. We don’t know if she has alerted Carlos and they could be on their way here now. We need to get out of here. I would do a cleansing spell so that she wouldn’t be able to find traces of clues that we were even here. The last thing we want is Carlos knowing that you are back in town” Lois went on and on, telling him how it was important that they made plans to leave but Alexander wasn’t listening to her. His mind was far away from her. All he could do was stare at the person that stood in front of him. He hadn’t seen her in years and now she was here. Something was wrong. His mind went to his grandfather but there was no way in the world that anybody could find his grandfather. He had stayed hidden for years and away from everybody else, only seeing whoever he wanted to see. There was no way that he could be in danger now. There was no danger to be in! Alexander screamed at himself. Maybe she was just here because she needed to
