~Avery~
”I don’t get it. So whoever this person is, has hands-on experience with vampires. But she or he could see their end? How can anyone for-see the future?” I asked in shock as I read over the words one more time.
Lydia was weirdly quiet, she looked to be thinking about something, trying to make sense of this but there was more behind her eyes. She was shaking her head and her lips were moving silently.
”Lydia?”
”I have no idea, let’s continue reading,” she said and flipped the page.
This one had the crown symbol on the bottom left corner.
”The embodiment of regal poise. The queen to rule over endless pain who shall meet her faith in the hands of trust. For no one creature is truly immortal, a balance must be made, a life
~Amber~ ”A girl who will protect her family, and those she loves, from harm. She will reach her full potential, she will fight, and she will win,” she said with a sad smile. ”Avery…” I said quietly. I wanted her to stop talking. I didn't like where this was going. ”A girl whose mate was never meant for her. Their forever had already been decided to not last very long. A love that been bound and sealed, a love that will fade with time unless they pay what they owe.” ”Your marriage…” I breathed out. ”A girl who will win a war, beloved by her family and her mate,” ”Please stop,” I said. ”About a girl who is not meant to survive the war she wins. For she must fall for the others to live,” Avery whispered. ”Why?” I asked her. I felt how angry I was getting and I needed to control myself. ”I was never meant to live a long life, Amber. I was born with a purpose, I was born to kill the queen and give my life to make sure that those I love are safe. I am meant to kill Raven,” she
~Avery~ ”It’s in my blood. My great-grandmother could foresee the future and different events that would occur, my mother could too. This ability goes back centuries and generations. My grandmother would tell me stories about our family, many of the women were burned or tossed in the lake with bound hands and legs because they were thought to be witches. One of my relatives, she had foreseen an attack on the village where she lived and she tried to tell the elders, those who were in charge but they saw her premonition as nothing but witchcraft and sentenced her to death.” I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Could Jasper's ancestors have been the ones who wrote the book? ”How do your family know all of this?” I asked him. ”A lot of them wrote things down in books so that their premonitions would live on even after they were dead. It was almost compulsive, whatever they saw or heard they had to write down so the information wouldn't get lost. And the woman who tried to save her
~Avery~ Jasper had gone off to practice. I was still in the library, I was stroking my arm with my hand as I replayed our conversation in my head. The women in Jasper's family had all been given the gift of premonitions. Both a gift and a curse I guess you could say. His mother had died, but maybe his sister could help me. I and Jasper had planned to meet up, after his practice, out by the garden. There was a gazebo out by the lake where we could sit in private without prying eyes and ears. He asked me if the Alpha wouldn't mind us being alone together and I told him that he had nothing to worry about because he didn’t. James had no right to be possessive anymore, he had given up that right many choices ago. I knew that the risks were there, but I wouldn't let James hurt him, I finally felt like I had a chance to get a hang of everything. There was a way for me to be with James, feel the mate bond, and live a life that didn't have to end at the hands of this war and Raven got
~Avery~ James turned around and in an instant, he was in front of me, his hands cupped my face and he slammed his lips down on mine. The passion, the strength, the dominance, it was all clear in that one kiss. He pulled back slightly and rested his forehead against mine. ”Things are changing, everything is different, I know you feel it too. I will fix this, Avery, you have my word. It will be you and I, whatever I have to do to make it so, I will,” He said in a beautiful promise and placed a kiss on my forehead before he left. Alex stayed behind, he raised his head slightly and looked at me. There was something he wanted to say, be it an apology or something else, I didn't feel like hearing it. We were all dealing with our own problems, in our own ways. The problem was that all our problems included each other but we closed off and I didn't think it was going to change anytime soon. James thought he could find the truth in that book but he couldn’t, I knew he couldn’t. But t
~Avery~ We sat there and talked and laughed for about an hour. Jasper had a great sense of humor, it was mixed with modesty and sarcasm that was right at home for me. We understood each other. ”You need to stop acting like your life depends on you sticking around here,” I said and bit down on an apple slice. ”Whatever you say, Luna, oh wait-” He said and look incredulously up at the roof. I turned my head and scowled at him. ”Ha-ha, very funny,” ”It wouldn't be if it wasn't true,” He said and leaned back against the couch with a cocky grin on his face. ”You’re comfortable, might need to change that,” I said with a scowl. Jasper laughed, it was a carefree laugh, one that made your heart flutter in happiness. I couldn't help the smile that twitched on my face, my lips were tugging up and Jaspers company was one I didn't know I needed. He was easy, carefree, funny, and had no drama. It was refreshing. The smile quickly vanished when a pain in my abdomen struck me hard and th
~Avery~ I saw something twitch in his eyes, something he wanted to cover up but couldn’t. ”Answer me!” I screamed again and pounded at his chest but James just stood there, giving me no reaction, as stable as a mountain wall. ”Avery,” Alex's voice sounded behind me but it was like he was further away. His voice was canceled out but I still heard the softness. ”No!” I screamed and shot my hand out to silence him. ”Avery?” I heard other voices now but I couldn't place them, they were there, someone else was there but I didn't take my eyes off James to see who it was. ”You were supposed to love me,” I said through gritted teeth and tears. ”You were supposed to be my equal, the man who was created for me. You were supposed to care for me and I for you. We were supposed to go through hardships together and solve all our problems together but you chose to shun me instead. Now you’re here, threatening my friend who has done nothing but shown you respect, and for what?” I asked, the w
The sun was setting, the darkness loomed behind the clouds and an ominous feeling swept in over the town. The wind blew in through the trees, it grew stronger with every passing moment and slammed against the windows, carrying debris that people were shielding themselves from as they ran to their homes. A few raindrops fell from the sky, followed by the loud sound of thunder and then the sky lit up like a light show from the lightning. More and more raindrops fell and then the sky opened up and It started pouring. We were all in my room, sitting on opposite sides, no one was speaking to the other. Me, Alex, James, Jasper, Lisa, Jackson, and Lukas- the goofy vampire boy. The only sounds that were made were from the rain pouring against the windows, the wind slamming against any surface in its way, and the thunder that rumbled outside. Nobody was out, everyone had gone home and were safely tucked under blankets with something warm in their hands. The little ones were probably l
~Avery~ My eyes never left his. I couldn't lift my hand, I couldn't tell if it was fear or pain, or maybe the pain medication that made me immobile. Chase took a step forward and I pushed myself down onto the mattress. Warning clocks rang in my head and my breathing picked up speed rapidly. ”Calm down,” He said softly and reached out with one hand while the other was held up in the air. He grabbed the glass and slowly brought I to me, the straw touched against my lips and his other hand came around my head as he lifted it up so that I could drink. I took small sips, every gulp of water hurt more than the other but I felt how it eased my dry throat. He removed his hand and my head fell down on the mattress slowly. Why was he so caring? ”Are you here to kill me?” I asked him quietly. I should've screamed, I should've woken up Alex and James but I couldn’t, I didn’t. I wanted answers. He was, after all, my brother. ”Do you really think I would kill my own sister?” He as
When Amber and James returned, we met them downstairs. Amber looked in awe as Malia walked toward her. Alex and his mate came down the stairs, he was holding Isabella and all three of them looked amazing.Alex had taken his role of uncle as an absolute. There wasn't a day that had gone by without him holding her or making sure that she was alright. No one else had been able to hold her, nobody outside the family, he and James were very alike in that aspect. Very protective.”You look beautiful,” Amber said breathlessly as she wrapped her arms around Malia.I bit my bottom lip and hooked my arm with James’s.We walked to the clearing where Lisa, Jackson, Trisha, Raven, Lucas Lydia, and Micheal were waiting. Amber wiped away a tear as she saw what we had done.”Oh wow,” Amber said.”It looks amazing,” James whispered in my ear. Malia guided Amber onto the cliff and grabbed her hands. ”There is nothing I can say that will ever measure up to how I feel about you, but I promise to show
1 week later. A week had gone by since the war, Amber had adjusted quite well to the life of a vampire. The one thing that had been the hardest and continued to be was the fact that Stella was gone. Amber told me how she sometimes tries to communicate with her wolf but then remembers that she’s alone, there's no one in her mind anymore. I know the feeling, I had only had Xena for a few months and had gotten so used to having her there, the biggest difference was however the fact that I got my wolf back, Amber wasn't going to get Stella back. She had nailed almost every vampire ’super power’ there was, including speed, coercion, healing, and strength. Amber was now the one teaching Lucas, who wasn't as thrilled that the student had become the teacher but he seemed happy nevertheless with the bond he had created with Amber. Damien, my brother, had grown close to Alex, the two were running together, playing pool, and whatnot. Alex and his mate seemed inseparable and the big red bit
”I killed my mother, not because of what she had done to me but because I knew what she would do to you. You’re my family, this, these people, you’re all my family. When he hurt you on the field, he sentenced you to death and I couldn’t…I couldn't let you die, so instead, you were turned. We can't be without you, Amber, nobody here can. Your brothers,” She said and Amber's eyes shakily found her brothers. ”They need you, you three are what’s left of your family and they wouldn't survive without you. Nobody would. Maybe turning you was selfish, because we wanted you to live, but letting you die wasn't an option.” Malia said sternly and let go of Amber's hand. ”So, this will take time and it will be painful and hard but we will get through this. We will help you, Raven will help you adjust to this new life but in the meantime, nobody is going anywhere. We are all here with you,” Raven cleared her throat. ”I actually have to go back, I do have my own responsibilities in my clan,” sh
Raven squatted down next to Amber and cleared away her hair from her neck. She lowered her head, her fangs extended, and just as she was about to bite into Amber's neck, her eyes rose and she looked up at James through her lashes. She then punctured Amber's skin, sinking her fangs into her flesh and releasing the poison. When Raven pulled back, we were all standing and watching them. ”Now what?” I asked when she stood again. ”Now we wait for her to die.” Raven said and wiped her mouth with her thumb then sucked the blood off it. I winced and Lydia hulked. ”What? I'm a vampire, remember,” she said and rolled her eyes. Raven didn't feed on humans, only blood bags so this must’ve been euphoric for her. I walked to the pool table and placed my hands on the surface, leaning back against it. I wasn't going anywhere, not until we found out how Amber would be. She'd wake up, but as a vampire, everything would be different. Werewolves are taught to hate vampires. Always have been,
Natasha came running into the pack house, William was close behind her but he walked as though we had all the time in the world. Lydia came as well and seeing her was such a relief but we didn't have the time to relish in it for too long. William nodded his head towards me. ”Her.” He said and all eyes turned on me. ”Her what?” I asked him. ”You can help her.” ”Help Amber? How? I don't even know what’s wrong with her,” I felt helpless, I had become dependent on my magic but I didn't have that anymore. What did I have to could help Amber? ’Me’ Xena ’You have me, Avery. I'm back now and we will learn to work together again’ I’m sorry… I forgot ’It’s alright, I've been gone for a while’ the sadness clenched my heart. I had forgotten that she was back but to be fair, she had been gone for a long time. ’Not on purpose’ Xena growled. I keep forgetting that you can hear my thoughts. It’s creepy ’Just place your hands on either side of her head’ Xena said as she rolled her
We were heading home to the pack house, I was holding our child and James was walking beside me. It didn't feel real, I didn't know when reality would hit and this would feel normal, perhaps it never would but nevertheless, we had created a life. As we walked into the house it was quiet except for some hushed whispers. We walked into the common area and saw everyone in our family sitting around, waiting. Amber was the first one to come up, she covered her mouth with her hands and looked down on the baby. ”Oh my goddess, you made this,” She said in awe. I laughed and James smiled. Amber held her in her arms and Alex came up to meet his niece. ”What’s her name?” He asked. I looked at James. ”Isabella-” I said. ”Isabella Lilly Knight.” Alex and Amber both looked at us. Amber gazed at her brother, wiping away a tear. ”Your sister and our mother.” She said and nodded her head before watching Isabella again. ”It’s perfect,” she said. ”We never truly met, I'm Chelsea,” I
I didn’t look at James, I already knew the death glare he was throwing Williams way and I didn't want him to see the fear in my eyes. I kept my gaze locked on William, he wasn't bothered by James in the slightest. Both me and James knew that this had to be done, there was no other way and if going through this pain was what I had to do to save my baby girl, then I would and I knew that deep down James did too. I heard a low growl, one that turned all heads to the Alpha. ”It’s okay, James, you know it is,” I said quietly and looked at him. His jaw was clenched and his eyes were hooded but a slight nod, one so small that I would've missed it if I hadn't looked carefully, said everything I needed to know. ”Let’s do this,” I said and looked at William. His gruff expression didn't change, his head was still lowered, his eyes looking up at me through his lashes and his long hair fluttered in the breeze. William closed his eyes, he inhaled, his chest rising and his head lifted. He
I felt the power surge through me, having to push away the thought of what the magic was feeding off. ”I’m so sorry,” I whispered to my baby. I felt my hands heating up, reaching my fingertips and I placed them over his heart. The darkness was consuming, it embodied me and I allowed it, allowed it to take whatever it wanted as long as it brought me back my brother. ”Look,” Amber whispered through her tears to Raven. My eyes were closed but I felt it, I felt his pain, his life, his threads of existence and I healed it. I heard a breath and felt his heart beginning to beat slowly, his blood circling, and then I opened my eyes. Alex was watching me with hooded eyes, his shaking hand came up and his fingers wrapped around my hands, squeezing them tightly. I cried even harder. ”You promised you wouldn't leave me again,” I cried and saw how the tears fell from his eyes. Alex's lip tugged upwards but he didn't have the energy to fully smile. I saw in his eyes how happy he was
I drew the fire and had it circling us all, the flames were cutting into thin air and moving vigorously around the enemies. With one hand I raised a shield over Amber and Malia and urged Alex to get himself and his mate behind it. But he was hurt, Alex was still bleeding and his face had turned pale and his lips were blue. Raven saw what I tried to do and with her speed, she grabbed Alex and placed him by his sister and then his mate. I held up the shield but Nicholas looked awfully cocky. Something I didn't like. ”You think you’re the only witch around here?” He asked and brought forward a man, long white hair, obsidian eyes, and an altogether dark expression. He raised his hands, circling them before pushing them up against the sky. The flames were uncontrolled, they were slashing at everything, including my own people. One of the flames cut through the shield and I heard Alex scream. It had hit his mate, her face was burnt. I circled my hands again, regaining control but o
