***Two Weeks Ago***
Shit shit shit. I was going to be late. I had been searching for a book or really a journal from Alpha Killian, three Alpha King’s ago. I finally found it, but I had been so deep in my search, I didn’t realized it was ten minutes past the High Council meeting that was supposed to start. I raced through the long corridors the castle and up the stairs before turning into a door.
I fumbled with it before I finally got it open and closed it behind me quietly. The main floor of the High Council had their seats behind a long table. From what I understood, the old High Council used to have robes they wore but now it was just formal attire. There were seats surrounding the high chairs and table. Those were for any onlookers, people who had come with the parties requesting an audience, or people like me who worked with or for the High Council.
Rarely did I sit on the main floor. Usually, I sat in the balcony above. From below, you couldn’t see anyone sitting up in the balcony. Not unless you moved to stand at the railing. The balcony had two doors to get into it, but the three rows wrapped around three sides of the room, save for the main doors.
I sat behind the High Councils seats, in case I needed to step up and speak as Alpha King. It also allowed me to listen without people knowing I was listening.
Settling into a seat, I noticed that they were speaking to a vampire couple and I was glad I didn’t miss anything werewolf related. The couple were asking permission to start a new coven. Normally, that wouldn’t need the council’s approval but apparently the size of it, they wanted to make sure the High Council knew. Since the fiasco with the BloodHunter coven, large covens were typically looked at with a suspicious eye.
“You have worked out the land in which your coven will stay?”
“Yes, High Councilor Jessica. We have made the arrangements and have made sure that no one will be dealing with the human population in the city over.”
I smiled. If they were going to make the sale, High Councilor Jess was the person to start with. She took over one of the vampire seats when there was the shift in power. It happened before I came but Grandpa and Mom explained that the old High Council were out for themselves most of the time. They didn’t care who was hurt in the process. Mom, Grandpa, Dad and few other prominent people saw to the shift in power. Whether it was forcing an early retirement or death. Either way, the new council I respected and they handled things fairly. They would also be more apt to help when someone needed it.
The meeting continued and there were another four different requests. Apparently, there were six today in total. After the first one, I had opened my book and started to read. It didn’t seem like anything was going to be crazy today.
“The final one will be here in twenty minutes. We will take a break until then.” High Councilor Mark, a werewolf and a previous Alpha, declared.
I leaned back in my seat and buried my nose deeper into the journal. It was fascinating. Alpha King Killian took on the war with the Vampires. The BloodHunter coven wasn’t as well known or at least the name wasn’t well known, so it just felt more like it was a war against all vampires. It was him though that realized it was a select few. He actually helped in making peace with the unrelated vampires, one of them being Grandpa. His choice to not view everyone as one lump group saved not only his pack but also the werewolf race as a whole.
We nearly lost half of our kind during those beginning years of his reign. The history books were quick to list his achievements but I was more interested in his personal journals. I knew it couldn’t have been easy and I was right. His personal journal was riddled with the pain he felt for his kind. His subjects that were being killed when he felt powerless to stop it.
“Earth to Vale. Anyone home?”
I looked up and nearly jumped out of my seat. “Goddess, Jess. Don’t scare me like that.”
“You are the only werewolf I know who would be so into a book that you wouldn’t notice a vampire walking up to you.”
I rolled my eyes and set down my book. “Why am I being graced by your presence, High Councilor?”
Jess rolled her eyes. “You were late today.”
“Yeah? And? I didn’t miss anything important.”
She took the book out of my hand and I growled. “What’s so interesting about some stuffy old book? You know, we could make history, you and I.” She wiggled her eyebrows at me and I shook my head.
“No thanks. While I’m sure you could tell me about how you lived three hundred years ago, I’d rather you not talk with your mouth full.”
Her jaw dropped and she went bright red. “Vale Everfell! If your mother could hear you, I wonder what she would say!”
I laughed. “Nothing. She can’t talk, remember?"
Her face paled and her jaw dropped further. “Vale!"
Shaking my head, I tried to control my laugh. “Her joke, not mine. She’s more crass than I am. She used to derail my dad so bad when he would slip up.” I mimicked my dads voice. “‘Why can’t see what I’m trying to do?’ ‘Because I can’t see you, nitwit.’ His whole argument would go out the window.”
Jess laughed. “Christ. I don’t think I could have handled it.”
“Seriously though, what are you doing up here?” I looked at her seriously.
Jess was beautiful. Blonde hair, blue eyes, and if you ignored the face that she was over four hundred years old, she was a man’s dream. As a horny teenager stuck inside a castle full of mostly old men, Jess and I had fooled around more than once. But she wasn’t my mate. She was someone I considered a close friend, but never anything more. She never asked for more either.
One drunken night, she had confessed that she would never fall in love again. After watching so many people die over the hundreds of years, it finally scarred her enough that she refused to have any meaningful romantic partnerships. A friend and a fuck buddy was all she could handle. Something I was more than willing to provide.
She had met my mom a few times over the years and while I know my mom knew about us, she never said anything about it. Mom was particularly open when it came to relationships. My dad was very firm on the ‘don’t fuck with anyone outside of your mate’. He said it wasn’t worth it and may ruin your relationship with your mate in the future. Mom had little to say though. She would smile and just say the heart wants what the heart wants.
“I think the last group is a pack thing. I know it’s something the previous High Council handled that’s now biting them in the ass but it might be something you’ll need to take care of.”
I nodded and sighed. “I guess I’ll hold off on reading then.”
She sneered. “Sorry to interrupt your time, your majesty.”
Turing to leave, I leaned forward and pinched her ass. She squealed and I winked. “For the majesty comment.”
Jess huffed and slammed the door, making me chuckle. I leaned over the railing to watch her stomp her way back into the room and sit down, crossing her arms over her chest. Rolling my eyes, I leaned back in my chair and closed my eyes. There was still another couple of minutes before the last group came in but if I restarted my book, I’d get lost in it.
My phone buzzed in my pocket and I looked down at the text.
Grandpa: Reach out to your mom tonight.
Me: What’s up?
Grandpa: I can’t talk right now. In the middle of the meeting. Just do it.
Me: Alright. Alright.
The doors opened and two werewolves walked in. Naresh stepped up, making me sit up. I could feel him on edge, feel him start to pace and growl. There was an anxiousness and a nervousness that crept out of him and into me.
'What is is?'
'Something. I feel…something.'
My eyes narrowed, the floor below having my full attention now. High Councilor Mark was the one who spoke first.
“Alpha Ezekiel, Beta Leo, welcome to the High Council.”
My eyes roamed over the Beta first. He was taller and even built bigger than his Alpha. It was shocking actually. Rarely would an Alpha have a Beta bigger than him. I know my dad made an exception with Gamma Hector. He wasn’t taller but he was bigger and was the only one who could even last against my mom for more than five minutes.
The two were dark, tanned, with black hair. Beta Leo, though, was short buzzed hair. He looked like he had been in the human military. He wore slacks and a dark green button up shirt. There was a scowl on his face and it looked like he had a serious case of resting-bitch-face. His hands were clasped being him as they stopped in front of the Hough Council.
Next to him, his Alpha maybe topped out at 6ft. He wasn’t as built but he definitely was well defined. His hair was long, braided in the back and some of his hair was wrapped in thread, giving it shocks of color here and there. His eyes were dark. From this distance, I couldn’t tell the exact color but they were mesmerizing. He had a scowl on his face as well, brow furrowed. Even his hands were clenched. However, looking at his face, the scowl looked off. The lines on his face were someone who smiled often, not frowned.
He was wearing a white button up shirt, with turquoise jewelry around his neck. My guess was he was in his late twenties, maybe early thirties. He had scars that were barely visible but it looked like he at least knew his way around a fight. They were not the most dressed up group to come in, but they were eye catching.
“I would rather not be here, but it seems I was left with no other choice.”
My heart hammered in my chest. Naresh growled louder, his pacing picking up. The Alpha’s voice washed over us and I felt goosebumps cover my body.
'What is going on? Naresh?'
He just rumbled and continued to shift, not able to sit down.
“State your case, Alpha.” Jess nearly growled.
“About seventy years ago, an Alpha by the name of Christian Darkry was brought before the council with crimes against his race. What he did was awful and deserved far worse punishment than what he receive.”
I was enraptured by his voice. Sitting on the edge of my seat, I watched him. He was shifting where he stood, as though a nervousness had settled in. His voice didn’t waver as he continued.
“The High Council decided that he would be put to death and his pack would be stripped of their name, their territory, and their rights.”
Another werewolf on the High Council, Julian, cleared his throat. “We don’t need a history lesson, Alpha Ezekiel.”
I grabbed the armrest of the chair. It cracked under my strength as I kept down the growl that was directed toward Julian. My eyes widened as I realized what I was about to do.
'Naresh, the hell…?'
'Mate?'
'WHAT?' I choked out a cough.
Naresh seemed unsure of himself though. Our confusion was only interrupted when the Alpha continued.
“I only give the history lesson because no one here was on the council back then. For better or for worse.” This earned him a few growls. He continued though. “His grandson, Derrek Darkry has decided that his Grandfather was wronged. He’s built himself a pack out of rogues. Some are remnants of the old pack, others are ones that have joined him in his crusade. However, they have decided instead of requesting a territory for their new pack, they are planning on taking ours.”
This time, the Beta spoke up. “He has been a plague. Attacking our borders, stealing our she-wolves and sending them back, raped and with child. He’s given us an ultimatum that if we don’t hand our lands to him, he will kill everyone in our pack and take over by force.”
“We aren’t a big pack.” Alpha Ezekiel stepped up after his Beta was done. “But those lands have been passed down from generation to generation of my father’s. It is sacred land to us and it’s not a lot but I will not abandon it when this was never our fight to begin with.”
I was struggling. What the hell was happening? Naresh was inconsolable and just staring at the Alpha made my heart hammer on my chest. All I wanted to do was jump down from the balcony and walk up to him. Smell him. Take him in my arms and crash my lips into his. Fuck.
My eyes widened when I realized what I was thinking and shook my head. I wasn’t gay. At least, my only real sexual escapades was with Jess or another vampire named Emma. She was Jess’s friend and the two of them liked to gang up on me sometimes. Outside of that, there was nothing else, no one else. I didn’t even know if there could be gay mates. How would the moon goddess set up two men when neither of them could have kids? It didn’t make any sense.“Alpha King Vale, please step forward.”My heart fell. I didn’t want to step up. Naresh forced us to stand up. We stepped forward and I grabbed the railing until my knuckles where white. I looked down at the group, keeping my face blank, my lips in a thin line. I watched as the Alpha’s eyes raise to mine. We looked at each other and the room melted away. My heart hammered in my chest and I watched as his eyes grew to the size of saucers. For the first time, his scent filtered into my nose. It was pine. Pine and the scent of cracking openin
I closed the books and sighed. Looking at the genealogy book, I pulled it closer and opened it up. Flipping through some of the pages, I decided to go from the back and worked my way in. The last page that had any writing on it was my name, sitting at the top of the blank page. The next page was full of Dad. Logan Everfell and a fairly detailed recount of his time as Alpha King. It included the information that the High Council requested to collect him as a child. As a result, his entire pack was nearly wiped out. I could understand why my dad had no love for the High Council. It spoke of the war between his pack, the fake Alpha King, and the BloodHunter coven. It wasn’t unless you pulled my mom’s journals on the war that there was any detailed information of what happened. Though, all of it was missing the parts about her being the Alpha King. I flipped through the pages further in.Alpha King Reinard with his Luna Bethany.Alpha King Callus and his Luna Courtney.Alpha King Killian
Jess nestled her boobs against my neck and wrapped her arms around my shoulders. “It’s so cute the relationship you have with your mom. You guys are almost like siblings rather than mom and son.”I shook my head. “You don’t want to see how I am with Freya and Syf. They took it upon themselves to fuck with me at every opportunity.”“And your brother?”“In the beginning, he taught me what it meant to be a young wolf. How to be brave and strong. How to save the girls from the spider on the playground. He was there a lot until I was twelve. Then, my family just broke apart.”She rested her chin on my head. “Is the Alpha King gene that strong?”I nodded. “I was still learning to get a handle on it. My dad said he didn’t remember ever having an issue, which doesn’t help. But Mom said he rejected his blood from the beginning. He never really knew until he was in his mid to late twenties. But Mom taught me not only how to control it but to embrace it. It might make it stronger.”“You’ve never
'Vale Maximillion Everfell!'Before I realized it, I got a mouthful of pillow. Blinking, I looked over, my mom who was readying another pillow to hit me with.“Woah woah woah. What the hell was that…” I was still hit in the face by the second pillow. “…for?”'The first one was because you explicitly disobeyed my instructions on not to use your power unless it was an emergency. Not for fucking around because you wanted to impress your mate. Goddess, Vale, you could have hurt people.'“I know. I know. But I didn’t think it was…wait…you knew it would work on everyone?”A cheeky smile graced her face. 'Of course I did. Did you think that your grandpa gave you the last bite of cake for a year because he wanted to?'My eyes widened. “I was forcing Grandpa to give it to me?” She nodded and I threw up my hands. “No wonder he stopped eating cake around me. Mom, you should have told me!”Her eyes narrowed. 'What? That you are the most powerful Alpha King there has been and that you, as a fiftee
I jolted up in bed and shivered. Looking down, I saw I was covered in my own cum. Rubbing my eyes, I fell back on the bed. When was the last time I had such an intense dream that I literally came over myself?'You were fourteen. The 9th grade and the substitute teacher Miss Halloway.'I growled. 'That was a rhetorical question, Naresh. I didn’t actually need to remember.'He snickered. 'Good dream though. You think our mate felt it as well?'Rolling my eyes, I got up and headed into the bathroom, turning the shower on. 'Probably not. He was probably fucking his Luna at that exact moment.'Naresh whined and immediately regretted it. It was mean and uncalled for. 'I’m sorry, Naresh. I’m still angry about it apparently.'He didn’t say anything as he retreated into the back of my mind. Sighing, I stepped into the shower and washed my body off. When I turned the water off, I could hear movement in the kitchen below. My mom must have been up already.Pulling on some boxers, sweats, and a sh
She signed at the screen: “I’ll connect with you later.”“Alright! Have fun! Nice to see you, Vale!” Immediately, she cut off the call before I could even reply.“Mom?”'So the day after you called me, the High Council called and asked for me to do a mission. You didn’t tell me anything so how was I supposed to know?'“You can’t do that mission! That group is dangerous. It’s more than just one or two wolves. It’s a pack, able to give grief to an entire other pack. You think you can just waltz in there and fix everything?” My voice was serious but I was pissed that she agreed to the mission.'Sometimes I wonder if you know what I really do. I kill people, Vale. No matter the race, about 90% of my jobs are to kill people. I know what the mission was. I get briefed on it before I agree to it. Plus, I’m not going alone this time. I have a crew.'Shaking my head, I got up and started to pace. “Mom, you cannot be serious right now.”She sighed. Getting off the stool, Mom placed her mug in t
I looked around at the giggling werewolves I called my family. My eyes were wide as I looked at all of them. It was hard trying to keep a straight face as I pictured a chubby wolf bounding through the forest. Squeezing my eyes shut, I struggled and finally succumbed to the laughter. Naresh was already roaring in my head and I joined him.“How much weight have they all gained?”Hector cleared his throat. “Some…more than others.”“Alpha Týr is absolutely the worst. His beta is a close second.” Lucy’s nose wrinkled and I watched as Bryan put a protective arm around his daughter.“Then Logan is probably third with the rest following in varying degrees of severity.” Bryan added, smirking. “It helps he wasn’t at the pack house full time until the last few weeks.”Shaking my head, I gulped in some air. “But you can’t be putting that much in.”“Until you see the portions that they eat.” Hector giggled.'That was added in by your Grandpa. It hightens their appetite as well. So the normal werew
Hector drove through the city and dropped off Bryan, with Lucy, at a small home just on the outskirts of Kirk. He turned around and headed back into the city, south toward the pack house. I moved to the front seat as soon as Bryan had gotten out. It was a quiet ride until we got closer to the pack house.“Vale, you need to remember. You aren’t just your mother’s son. You are also the Alpha King and by extension, the High Council.”“Can’t I just be a son? Worried about what the hell is going on in my family?” I looked over at him but his face was hard.He shook his head. “No, you can’t. Not here. With your mom, with us, you can. But the moment you step outside of this car or her house, every action you take is as the Alpha King. More eyes are on you than you know.”“Hector, come on. I just want to talk to Dad and Týr.”We pulled up and Hector parked the Jeep. “Your Dad and Týr aren’t an exception. Speak to them as Alpha’s because that’s who they have decided to be.”“But I’m the Alpha
Hey everyone!! I wanted to go ahead and give an update here. We decided to move The Kings Alpha under the story Alpha's Blind Luna. The chapters have already been moved over there and that is where the new updates will be going to as well! I know! The first question is what about my coins and what I have already paid into this story! Don't worry! If you have already paid for up until Chapter 80, you are covered. You won't have to pay again until Chapter 81! I double checked with my editor because I was worried because I have stories I read on the site as well that shift and I wanted to make sure you guys were covered. :) I am trying to focus best I can on The King's Alpha moving forward and hoping to finish it as soon as possible! Im sorry for the major delay. I have a baby in the last few months and it has been an adjustment to having to kiddos and trying to juggle all the things that comes with that. Not to mention my little dude is the fussiest and doesn't like to be set down, wh
Hello everyone! I know it's been a minute since I've updated on the things going on. It's probably been a little frustrating and I know the writing process on my end for this story has been a little frustrating as well. I promise you I am still working on this one! I hit a bit of a wall and ended up throwing a number of chapters out the window. As I was going through that, I've been hit one after the other with health issues. The last of which I was out for two weeks with covid + pneumonia and landed myself in the ER. I was already in a compromised state but here we are. I'm slowly on the mend and even though I'm really not supposed to be working as much right now and just focusing on getting better, my love of writing and sharing with others has me continuing to work a little at a time. I've also been going through some of my older stories and working on editing them as well. Just because for a few days it was easier to read than to even must the brain power to dig in deep and to w
We all watched as Hector dished up some of the almost curry-like concoction. Jax put the bread in one of the breadbaskets we used. He took everything to the table but Hector held one bowl back. Opening up the fridge, he took out the container of sour cream. Putting a large dollop in the center, he smirked and held out the bowl to me. I took it and looked down at it. It smelled amazing even with the sour cream.“It softens the spice. You should be able to take it now.”I rolled my eyes but swung around and took my bowl to the table. Everyone was sitting down and it was so long since we had done this. Sadly, everyone was more serious.“Anyone have any news before I start? I’d like to eat a little before I talk my head off.”Hector grabbed a baguette slice and dipped it into his bowl. Everyone seemed to take that as a go ahead to eat. Lucy was the first to start.“Hospital is all set up. We also managed to snag two OBGYN doctors for the hospital. I had to bribe them quite a bit but we’ve
My eyes roamed up to the voice and the cigarette dropped out of my mouth between the rocks. Hector was standing before me. Cigarette between his fingers, brought up to his lips. He was thinner, gaunt. A look in his eyes that said he was far away, a pain I saw when I came back from the BloodHunter Coven but then so much more. His hair was cut short and he was completely clean shaven. Getting up, I threw my arms around him and hugged him. He chuckled awkwardly but did pat my back a couple times before letting go.“You’ve been missing for almost a year! What the hell happened?”He sighed, smoke coming out as he did. “It’s a long story. One probably best left for everyone to be present for.”I nodded, still taking in that he was here. “Are you hungry? We can get some food set up. Something to drink?” I glanced down at the duffle next to him. “You’re room is untouched. So you can drop your stuff off.”There was a moment of silence before his eyes finally met mine. “Right now, I’d like a ci
***Ezekiel’s POV***I sat across Vale at desk in the office. We are both immersed in different paperwork. I could feel his gaze fall to me sometimes but I didn’t look up, trying not to be distracted as much as I already was. This paperwork was important and it needed to be approved, signed, and submitted as soon as possible. Having my beautiful mate sitting across from me did not help. He had come home a couple weeks ago. It had been almost a month he was gone this time and I found that it never got easier to be away from him.Worse, the pack house was quiet without him. Auri was gone. It already been years and I think both Vale and I had started to accept that the strongest person in our lives was gone forever. Not to mention Hector. He was always gone from the pack house. Suddenly though, he started to not take any of our calls, even from Pipsqueak. We knew something bad happened but Vale said he was still connected to the pack. So there was some semblance of hope. Lucy had moved in
I sat in the back of a taxi headed back to the hotel. The last thing on my to-do list was adding another 5 days to our stay. I worried Hector’s heat may be worse than mine or even Ezekiel’s. It had been a struggle to keep my power reigned in. It felt unruly and wild. But I did itch to see how much more power I had compared to before. There wouldn’t really be time to test it now. For now, I just needed to focus on Hector and maybe getting reconnected to the world. The taxi stopped in front of the hotel. I grabbed my bags full of food, herbs, two laptops, and a few other necessities. Walking in, the receptionist was about to come around to grab the elevator when I stopped her. It was a quick an easy process to add another few days onto the stay and then she helped me into the elevator. As I was headed up, the door opened and the entire floor was dark. Setting the bags on the counter, I narrowed my eyes and looked around but I couldn’t see anything.Walking into the bedroom, I saw Hecto
“Goddess, I can’t remember the last time I had a shower.”I chuckled as Hector looked into the bathroom. “Imagine how I feel.”“Did you want to take one first?”Shaking my head, I was reading over the information the front desk provided. Apparently, there was a shopping district not too far from where we were. I looked at the little map printed on the page.“Auri?”“Oh! No no! Go take a shower. I’m going to head down and pick up a few things. At least some food for you. See if we can’t look semi-normal.”Hector walked into the kitchen where I had been leaning on the counter looking at the booklet. “Want me to go with you?”My eyes roamed over his naked figure. Sure, we had been naked for weeks but this was a completely different environment. It was hard keeping the smile off my face as I took him in.“No. I blend in a little more than you do.”“I can blend in.”This made me laugh. “Hector, you’re almost a foot taller than the average height here. Not to mention you absolutely are some
We ambled five minutes before we ran into anyone. Luckily, it was no one who knew us. They didn’t even stop as we swayed with the two bottles in our hand. I stopped at the power room. It was out of our way but I wasn’t about to leave this place running after everything I had gone through. Leaning Hector up against the wall, I unlocked the door with the keycard. It was too easy. No one was monitoring the room and it was as easy as pulling levels well past the red marker. It was sophisticated but at the same time, simple. I wondered where we were that would build a power system this easy to fuck up.Quickly, I closed the door and pulled Hector back over my shoulder and we ambled our way down the halls. Unfortunately, this route took us past the guard common room for the east side. Sure enough, three guards stood outside, chatting. They looked us up and down.“What the hell…”Flaring my nostrils, I pointed my pinky at them, while holding the beer bottle up. I did my utmost to slur my wor
It had been surprising quiet. I guessed three weeks had passed. Hector’s beard now being my indicator of time passing. At one point, he begged one of the lab coats to shave it off but they didn’t do anything. Once a week I got my injections and Hector received a meal that I was thankful I didn’t have to eat. Despite that, somehow, Hector looked bigger, gaining more muscle and height. I wondered if it was because of our bond or it was because the power I imparted into him. Either way, the guards gave him a more wary eye and it made me laugh. For the most part, they kept our chains slack, allowing us to be together. The only time was the meal time or if they were hauling me away for more additions. Yesterday had been one and I slept most of the rest of the day. After that, they had actually pulled the chains tight and we were stuck apart. It was wearing on Hector and I wondered how close we were to his heat. His replies were more growls than anything. The sound of scrapping reverberat
