As a child, I was trouble. But the kind of trouble no one knew about until it was too late.

Jace was three years younger than me and Kyle was two years younger than me. When Jace was little, he was a sweet boy who never cried. He was always smiling. He would follow me around everywhere and ask me about everything.

When he grew up a bit, he and I were separated for many reasons. He had to focus on combat and other lessons, while I left for the academy. Still, whenever I came back, we used to spend time together.

On my wedding day, Jace and I sat the garden. I remembered the day as if it was just yesterday.

“You look beautiful, Sully,” Jace told me.

“Thank you,” I said.

“You are not happy, are you?” Jace was always very observant.

“I am,” I lied.

“Sully, I won’t tell Father about our conversation. I never do,” he said.

“I have to do it, even if I don’t like it,” I told him.

“I know. But… if you truly don’t want to, I can find a way to help you.”

Thinking about Jace was hard. Whenever I closed my eyes, I saw him in that dungeon, his wrists in manacles above his head and a chain around his neck.Demian lay beside me, holding me tightly, as if he feared I would fly away like a bird. His presence was a comfort, yet an obstruction as well.I wanted to hate him, but he was way too nice to me. He did not hurt me. In fact, it seemed he protected me from his father and his family. He stopped his father from punishing me. He painted my body instead of beating me. Why was he doing this? Was he truly different from his father?Could I trust him? Just a little bit?Demian’s breath was warm on my neck. His breath was even. I counted them for a while. At first, it was 18 times per minute. Then, it decreased and became 12 times per minute.I wondered how different my life would be if I listened to Jace that day. If I said yes, would I even be here, fearing for my life every moment? Ruben looked just like Rose. Just a male version of her.I did not want to meet him, but as usual, I forced myself to do it. I did not want to annoy any of the Silverclaws. Ruben wanted to seem me, so here I was, in his bed chamber. For some reason, I imagined Ruben had a missing limb. It was a childish thought, but that was the first thing that came to my mind when I heard Ruben could not leave his room.Ruben stared at me for a while, then gave me a smile. He had a warm smile. He looked like an angel.“I heard a lot about you from Rose. My mother was a Star too, so I was curious to see if you two looked alike,” Ruben said. Even his voice was soothing to the ear.“I look like my mother,” I said. “My sister Selina looks like my father and your mother.”“You are still very pretty. You have beautiful eyes,” he said. “I have never seen red eyes before.”“It is very rare, after all. All my siblings have blue eyes except for me. My mother and I have the same eyes,” I said.“Your mother als

Sometimes, I wondered if she was just pretending to be scared.I never thought Damien would end up marrying that woman. It was a sudden decision on his part and he never did something of that kind usually. Damien was a calculated person. Marrying someone suddenly, who was also someone he had never seen before, was truly strange for him to do.Damien surely did not regret his decision. Demian told me I should join the dinner since I did not join breakfast and lunch. When I went to meet Ruben, I pretended to be in pain without even thinking. Acting a part came naturally to me. At some point, I did forget that I was supposed to act beaten up and in pain. But Ruben probably did not notice. Now, I had to be extra cautious since Alexander would see me too. If I closed my eyes, probably the whipping would not hurt as much as before. But I did not. As he stepped in front of me, I glared at him defiantly.I hated him. I hated his family. I hated his name. I hated everything about him.“Why so angry, darling? I am your husband. You should show some love for me,” he said, a crooked smile playing at the side of his lips. Through the gap between his lips, I could see his sharp fangs, ready to sink into soft flesh.“Fuck you!” I yelled.“Tsk, darling. You are a noble born lady. Why be so vulgar?” He crouched down in front of me. His fingers trailed my face to my neck. I sucked in a breath. “Be sweet. Like you are rai
