“What?” Claudia was taken aback. He barged into her room, and it was somehow her fault? How was being walked in on like that supposed to be a compliment? She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.”Mom….”

Isadora ignored her daughter as she turned back to Julian. “Anyway, it’s so nice to meet you,” she added with a smile.

Julian, however, couldn’t shake the feeling that it was all an act. And the fact that she so easily blamed her daughter, when it was clearly his fault for walking into a room without knocking, only made him more uneasy.

Julian wasn’t fooled. He already knew why Isadora’s attitude had flipped so quickly, his last name. People like her were always eager to befriend someone like him. After all, he was the richest young man now, even if most people didn’t know it yet. So, her sudden shift didn’t surprise him at all, she was trying to befriend him for the benefits.

“Nice to meet you too,” Julian replied casually, though his focus quickly shifted to Claudia, who was yelling

“Grandfather, you’re back so early,” Elysia said quickly, her voice carrying a hint of surprise as her gaze shifted to the figure who had just entered the room, along with two men, his security guard and a butler, flanking him.The man who had just arrived was none other than Adrian Vespera, the patriarch of the Vespera family, and Claudia and Elysia’s grandfather.Adrian's eyes were cold, as they swept over the scene, immediately landing on Marcus, whose fists were still clenched, and Julian, who stood unfazed but clearly prepared for whatever came next.Adrian’s expression darkened when he saw this: The soon-to-be son-in-law of the Vespera family was moments away from getting into a physical altercation, with some stranger, no less.Marcus was soon to be family, and as the patriarch, it was Adrian’s responsibility to protect the family’s honor. He could not and would not spare anyone who dared to disrespect his family, especially in his own home.“What’s going on here?” Adrian’s voic

Marcus continued, dismissive and too arrogant. “I think we shouldn’t waste another second entertaining this. Let my men handle him,” “Marcus, you idiot, keep your mouth shut for once if you know what's best for you and your family.” Isadora finally had it with Marcus and his reckless arrogance so she spoke up. Marcus was stunned after hearing the way she just spoke to him. Never in his wildest thoughts had he imagined that Isadora Vespera, his future mother-in-law, who had always treated him so kindly like a king, would snap at him like that. She didn't just snap at him, but she had also just called him an ‘idiot,’ all because of Julian, a man who was clearly not on his level. Marcus's face turned red with anger. “You’re seriously taking his side? Over me?” he demanded, glaring at Isadora in disbelief. “I might be your future son-in-law, but I will not tolerate such disrespect from you. I demand you apologize immediately, or I'll call off my engagement with Claudia.” Isadora di

Turning back to Marcus as he was being dragged outside, his voice icy and final, Adrian spoke. “Everything is called off. You can forget about marrying my granddaughter. You are no longer welcome in this house.”He was doing everything in his power to make sure Julian's anger eased on him and he wouldn't face any consequences for his earlier disrespect. After Marcus was kicked out of the house, Adrian turned to Julian, beads of sweat still on his forehead as he continued to ask for Julin to show some mercy..Isadora, Claudia, and Elysia watched nervously, unsure of how Julian would respond. The future of their family lay in his hands, and that terrified them when they thought about it.But in truth, Julian had already decided he wouldn’t do anything to harm the Vespera family. The other members of the family had been good to him ever since he arrived, so what kind of man would he be if he destroyed them over Adrian’s mistake? No, Julian wasn’t that kind of person.Besides, Julian nee

“I think it’s time you started explaining,” Julian said, his voice commanding and authoritative as he stepped closer. “What the hell is going on, Vera? And don’t tell me it’s complicated. I need answers.” he demanded.Vera gave a small nod, and said softly,“That’s exactly why I brought you here. There are things I know about your parents’ murder, things you need to hear.”Julian blinked, momentarily caught off guard by her sudden willingness to talk. “Okay, I'm all ears.” he said, waiting for her to start spilling everything she knew out.Just then, the old man beside Vera finally spoke, his tone serious. “But first, let’s make one thing clear, Master Julian.”Julian turned to him, his sharp gaze sizing up the stranger. Who was this man, really? He looked very familiar, especially now that Julian stood closer, but he still couldn’t quite place the face. He looked familiar, yet unfamiliar at the same time. There was something in the man’s looks that reminded him of Vera. For example t

“Why do you suspect that?” Julian asked.Jasper replied, "We suspect that, because how did they manage to get a hold of your old family home?" Jasper added, his voice filled with suspicion.“I thought the mansion was auctioned off by someone in the Blackwood consortium?” Julian asked. He’d always assumed that’s what had happened, but now that he said it out loud, it didn't sound so convincing, even to himself. Why would the Blackwood consortium ever sell his family home? What purpose could there be? It was not like they lacked funds.“No, it wasn’t auctioned off. They made your grandfather give up the home that night.” Jasper’s words dropped like a bomb making Julian even more shocked. “And it was later given to Gabriel by the people who murdered your family as a gift....I think, according to the information I have acquired.” Julian’s mind spinned. His family’s mansion… given as a gift? To some Gabriel, Isadora's husband?“Do you know who those people are?” Julian asked, his voice ti

Before he could speak, she stepped past him without hesitation, her heels clicking against the marble floor as if she owned the place. The two women she had with her followed suit, flanking her and with practiced steps.Julian blinked, caught off guard. His frown deepened as he watched them walk past him without a second glance. Who the hell did she think she was? Walking into his hotel just like that? Agitation creeped up his spine. He hadn’t even had the chance to ask her to stop or invite her in. What was her game? The audacity of it all rubbed him the wrong way. She was treating his space like it was hers, and that didn’t sit well with him."Excuse me?" Julian snapped, his voice cold as he turned to face her. "What the hell do you think you’re doing?"She didn’t stop. Instead, she walked further into the room, pausing only to glance around briefly before turning to meet his eyes.“Nice place,” she said casually, as though they’d known each other for years. “I hope you don’t mind.”

Sometime later, after freshening up and changing into a fresh set of clothes, Julian followed Athena in silence, his mind thinking about the consequences of agreeing to this unexpected meeting. Was he making a mistake in trusting her? He wasn’t sure if he trusted her or he should trust her at all, but the idea of an ally, someone who shared his enemy, was too tempting to pass up.After getting outside the hotel, a luxurious limousine accompanied by a few cars was parked outside waiting for Athena. Her driver, a burly man dressed in a suit , opened the door for her and she entered the vehicle along with her two bodyguards.Julian didn't hesitate, and followed her, having already made up his mind. The vehicle started moving. The drive was short. On the road, Athena had attempted to start some conversations, throwing out bits of small talk, but Julian wasn’t having any of it. He answered her first few questions with short, clipped responses before falling completely silent.Athena se

After leaving the chairman's office, Julian headed to the grand meeting room, with Nyx and Celeste by his side. He walked in with confidence and authority, his presence commanding attention. The meeting room was filled with the most influential figures in the consortium from board members to other key executives, including the President. Blackwood consortium's president was Damien Emerson, a man in his fifties, known for his strategic mind and loyalty to the company. Julian remembered him, because he used to work very close to Julian's family back then. All eyes turned to Julian as he walked around the table and took a seat reserved for the head of the consortium, making it clear who was in charge now. But, his action caught some in the room off guard. They didn't know who he was, so they exchanged puzzled glances, some whispering among themselves, questioning who he was and why he dared to sit in the seat meant for the most powerful person in the room. That seat was reserved for Da

Tate was very calculative, and Julian knew he had to be careful around him. Julian’s expression remained unreadable, but inside, his irritation sharpened. “Redistribute?” he asked, as if he didn't hear him the first time.Dave nodded, “A small adjustment. Nothing drastic. But by allowing select board members to increase their stakes, you’d be demonstrating your commitment to the stability.” His tone was smooth and practiced. “A show of trust, Julian.”A show of trust huh? Julian thought to himself. At this moment, he couldn't trust Dave Tate. A tense silence settled between them.Julian let the silence go on for a little bit longer, he studied Dave, trying to figure out what he was thinking. What was he planning?Well, he didn't need to think too much about it, he could already see the game Dave was playing, disguising a power grab as an act of goodwill. If Julian had to guess, Dave Tate was the one who wanted the shares for himself, so that he can have even more influence in the co

Only when Julian spoke did Dave Tate finally look up from his documents. He had heard Julian walk in, of course. But being the man that he was, he had deliberately chosen to ignore him and make him wait. It was a silent display of power from him, a reminder that when it came to the Blackwood consortium, time moved at his pace and not Julian’s. He might be the heir to the consortium, but that hardly mattered here, especially when he had been away for so long.Slowly moving his gaze away from the documents and looking at Julian, Dave Tate finally acknowledged him, setting the document aside. His expression was casual, unreadable, yet there was an undeniable weight behind his eyes, one that spoke of experience, calculation, and quiet authority."Mr. Blackwood," he said, his tone cool and controlled. "I was wondering when we'd finally meet.”Dave Tate leaned back in his chair, studying Julian for a moment before gesturing to the seat across from him. "Take a seat."Julian gave a little n

  • The Invisible Heir   Reentering his old life

Meanwhile, Julian arrived at the headquarters of the Blackwood Consortium. It was a luxurious skyscraper, towering over the city with its sleek glass exterior reflecting the afternoon sun. The structure had an impressive modern design, with its dark tinted windows. It was a very tall building. Julian took a moment to admire the view. A faint smile made its way to his lips, a part of him was glad he was back here again after being away for so long. The building was one of the tallest and most luxurious buildings, with more than 200 floors and a design that stood as a testament to the sheer power and influence of the Blackwood Consortium. From the moment he stepped foot here, Julian felt a strange sense of belonging, maybe it was because he was stepping back into a world that had always been his. But at the same time, there was also an unease at the pit of his stomach. It scared him, knowing that he wasn’t just returning as an heir. He was stepping into a battlefield. His enemies

Julian stood over the captive, his cold gaze locked onto him, as he was lying on his back, still tied to the chair. There wasn’t a trace of mercy in his expression, only a chilling look and unrelenting determination.Without needing a command, one of the guards stepped forward, gripping the chair and hauling both it and the captive upright. The man gasped, his breathing ragged, his earlier smugness shattered and nowhere to be seen. When the captive realized that his earlier answer didn’t satisfy Julian, he was even more afraid. “That’s all I know!” the captive blurted, shaking his head violently. “I swear! I never met the guy who paid me. Got the job through a middleman. No names, no details, just a target and a payout!” The same person who was acting all tough earlier and claiming he would never break, was now revealing every thing before Julian, hoping that by the end of this, he would he able to save his skin.Julian stood still, his gaze cold as he studied the captive. The shooter had a fearful look for half a second after he heard Julian’s words, but then he chuckled dryly, shaking his head. “Yeah? And what are you gonna do, tough guy? Older you lackeys to beat me until I pass out again?” He tilted his chin up, his smirk resembling that of someone filled with arrogance, despite the fact that he had no control here,“You’re wasting your time. I’m not saying a damn thing. So do what you gotta do.”Julian exhaled audibly, a hint of irritation flashing across his face. He was already getting fed up with this person. He was playing tough, but that wouldn’t last, not with what Julian had planned out for him. One way or another, Julian had to make him speak, and so he needed to shift tactics. Julian’s expression darkened as he shot a look at Nyx. No words were needed from Julian, Nyx already understood the assignment.Without hesitation, she stepped forward and grabbed the man’s hand, twisting it at an unnatural angle. He walked through the warehouse entrance with Nyx and a bunch of armed security personnel following behind him.He made his way into the holding area with Nyx, while the armed men remained outside, securing the perimeter for any danger. If the shooter’s associates, or anyone else, tried to interfere, they’d be ready. Inside there were about five guys dressed in tactical gear, watching over the shooter to make sure he didn't escape.Julian gave a small signal with his fingers, and one of the guards yanked the blindfold off the captives head. The man blinked rapidly, his eyes adjusting to the dim light, before they shifted slowly to stare at Julian and Nyx who stood before him. His eyebrows arched when it suddenly vibrated. Seeing that Scarlett was calling, he paused for a moment. He had forgotten that Scarlett was in the hotel ballroom during the shooting. He wondered if she had made it out safely amidst all the chaos and panic. He answered the call and pressed the phone to his ear.“Hey, Julian,” Scarlett’s voice came through, soft but concerned.“Are you okay?” she asked. “How are you feeling?”Julian couldn’t help but grin, leaning back on his bed. She asked how he was doing. Was she worried about him now? He didn’t expect that. Honestly, Scarlett had always been aloof and cold toward him at first. “Where is he?” the mayor demanded as Julian approached him and Helen. He rose from the stretcher, his face was a mask of anger and determination. “Where is the son of a bitch who dared to shoot me? Bring him to me.”Julian was taken aback by the mayors sudden behavior. All of a sudden he was acting like this? Julian expression remained calm, almost indifferent. “He’s in my custody,” he replied, his voice showing how much he couldn’t care less about the mayor's outburst, “I’ll interrogate him and let you know what I find out.”But Mayor Sullivan frowned after hearing Julian’s words. He glared deep into Julian’s eyes as if trying to scare him into giving up custody of the shooter. The mayor didn’t agree with Julian because he wanted to do the interrogation himself. Actually, he didn’t need to interrogate the shooter because he already knew who had sent him and why. But that wasn’t the point. He wanted to use the shooter to send a message to the organization, letting them know that the
