Marcel walked through the yard in the cold night air. He opened the cellar door and climbed down the stairs to enter the lab.
The lights were dimly lit when Marcel entered, the stale air piercing his nose and making him hold back the feeling of sneezing. Marcel wasn’t surprised that the air in the lab wasn’t very good, since no one had cleaned it since it had been abandoned for a while. The first thing Marcel did was to tidy up the lab, as there were a lot of abandoned tables and equipment, even some of the tubes of various sizes were broken due to not being used for a long time. “I’m not sure if I can do it,” Marcel grunted with a heavy sigh, he cast his eyes around and his mental state dropped even further as he found the deadlock attacking him in all directions. Who was he going to rebuild this lab with? He was a business graduate who had nothing to do with science. Marcel was pensive for a long time after disposing of the broken tubes. The night was so quiet that even the slightest sound would be heard by his ears. It was then that Marcel’s sense of hearing picked up the sound of paper being crumpled. “Who is it?” exclaimed Marcel, casting his eyes around. However, there was no answer. Instead, there was a sound like paper being shredded by rodents. “Who’s there?” asked Marcel as he walked over and switched on the lights in several corners of the lab room until it was brightly lit. “... wow, that’s who ...!” “Shhh, quiet, Dad!” Marcel sharpened his hearing after hearing someone else’s voice in the lab. “... the potion isn’t finished yet ....” “Dad, don’t talk yet ...!” “That formula, you don’t understand, my daughter!” Marcel glanced around to find the exact direction of the sound source. He was certain that an intruder had broken into his parents’ lab without permission. On a day-to-day basis, the lab was simply closed and had no security system since it stopped operating. “Who’s there?” exclaimed Marcel as he opened one by one the partitioned rooms in front of him, even the cabinets that had no idea what they contained were not spared from his investigation. “... I have to try again ....” “Dad, come back!” Marcel was knocked off his feet when someone suddenly appeared from one of the curtained rooms and hit him hard. “Dad!” Marcel looked up and saw a young woman with short, shoulder-length hair and a gaunt face looking at him in shock. “Who are you?” asked Marcel as he stood up. “What are you doing in this lab?” The woman made an apologetic gesture as she helped the man with the father label back to her side. “I asked who you are,” Marcel repeated his question. “My name is ... Ve-Venya,” the woman stammered. “And this is my father, sorry-we had to sneak in here because our house was blown away by the wind.” “What?” said Marcel with a furrowed brow. “What do you think your house is made of, that it could fly away in the wind?” Marcel remembered that it wasn’t particularly windy tonight, just a chill that sometimes chilled him to the bone. “Our house is made of woven bamboo, you wouldn’t understand or even imagine it.” Venya explained. “Alright, so you and your dad are staying here? Since when?” asked Marcel as he met Venya and her father for the first time that night. “Sometimes when our house is in ruins,” Venya answered honestly. “As far as I know, this warehouse seems to be neglected and not used anymore. That’s why I came in here to protect myself ... It also happens that my father doesn’t want to go anywhere else but here.” Marcel listened to Venya’s explanation without wanting to ask any more questions because the woman was quite talkative. “Now you know that this lab has an owner, right?” asked Marcel slowly. “Yes, we apologize.” Venya nodded. Marcel sighed, he realized too late that Venya was one of the legacies left by his parents. “I have to make another potion ....” “Not again, Dad!” Venya shook his head while looking at the man beside him. “Hold on!” said Marcel a few seconds later. “You said that your name is Venya, right?” “That’s right, Sir.” Venya nodded in surprise. “What’s wrong?” Marcel’s gaze fell on the man, who was still mumbling about the experiment. “Is your father named Meru?” Marcel asked to confirm. Venya nodded and said, “This is my father, Professor Meru. But unfortunately, he’s no longer a professor.” Marcel was pensive, he remembered the letter his parents had written about the scientist. Also, Herman’s remark that the scientist who had worked with Marcel’s parents had gone mad. “Then introduce me, my name is Marcel. I am the son of Lana and Fabi, who worked with your father.” Marcel explained. “Come with me for a moment, I’ll show you something!” Venya immediately pulled her father’s arm to follow Marcel. “I just found a letter from my parents,” Marcel said as he showed the dusty file. “So you’re really Mrs Lana and Mr Fabi’s son?” asked Venya to confirm. “Of course, please read this carefully.” Marcel nodded and held out the letter to Venya. “Where’s the secret formula I made back then?” Meru untangled himself from her daughter and began to wander around the lab. “Dad, I’m reading this!” Venya reminded. “Don’t run around ....” “Let me keep an eye on your father,” Marcel said firmly. “Okay!” Venya continued to read the entire letter left by Marcel’s parents carefully. “So, do you understand?” asked Marcel after Venya returned the letter to him. “What it means ... Your parents want their research to resume?” Venya asked back. “Or did I misinterpret the letter?” “I agree,” Marcel nodded as he approached Meru. “And it seems that your father is also very eager to continue the research.” Venya sighed. “But my father’s condition right now ...” she hesitated. “He’s not so good, you can see for yourself.” Marcel looked at Meru and thought that this plan was not an easy one and had many risks, as Herman had told him. “Besides, we also need a lot of funds,” Venya continued. “Do you have the funds to continue this research?” Marcel suddenly became silent. Never mind money, he didn’t even have a job. Whatever he did in the Delvino family was not valued at all and was considered an installment to pay his parents’ debts. “Maybe we can find a sponsor?” suggested Marcel, it was the only logical thought that came to mind at the moment. “Makes sense, but ....” Venya considered. “You haven’t forgotten about my father’s condition, have you? Many think he’s crazy, memory loss ....” “But he remembers the research,” Marcel interrupted with a frown. “How can a madman remember something he did when he was sane?” Venya was stunned and replied, “We can test it for a while!” “Hey, wait, what are you going to do?” Tp Be Continued—Marcel frowned as he watched Venya guide Meru towards a glass cabinet filled with small tubes.“What have you been doing here?” Venya asked in a soft tone as she looked at Meru. “Do you know what those tubes are for?”Marcel was silent as he observed Meru’s sudden silence and inactivity.“I ... my daughter used to accompany me!” said Meru while nodding.“I am your daughter,” Venya said patiently and compassionately. “We used to do research here together, there was Mr Fabi too ....”“No! My daughter is still young, she doesn’t understand anything yet!” Meru argued.Marcel continued to observe the interaction between Venya and Meru, after all, the two of them were his only hope of extricating himself from his current situation.“My father has been like this since Mr Fabi and Mrs Lana left,” Venya said slowly. “Maybe with us resuming this research, who knows, my father could recover?”Marcel was silent for a moment.“The problem is that we also need a lot of money to continue the researc
That morning, Marcel helped Nana prepare breakfast for the entire Delvino family. Sweat streamed down his forehead and down the back of his neck while Shirley and the others chatted and ate.“Mr Marcel, eat in our room first.” Nana whispered when she saw Marcel sitting miserably by the operating washing machine.“Later, Nana.” Marcel replied in a low voice, he glanced at Shirley who was busy eating the crispy chicken thighs that were served. Not to mention the greedy voice of Ciko, who was busy grinding black pepper beef, which made Herman admonish him to be more polite at the dinner table.Marcel held his stomach, which was sore because he had not been filled with anything, but had been forced to work hard to help with the household chores.“I’m so full!” exclaimed Ciko as she reached for a tissue to wipe her lips.“Eat more politely next time,” Herman said flatly. “After this, mum and dad will attend a meeting with a client from the company that produces the drill ....”“I remember
After Ciko was satisfied with humiliating him in front of Nana, Marcel went to the lab on an empty stomach because he didn’t want to eat anything the Delvino family gave him anymore.Venya had just finished cleaning Meru’s body when Marcel appeared.“How did you and your father eat?” Marcel asked curiously. “Do you feel comfortable living here? Do you need to clean the place first ....?”“No, it’s better like this so that none of the Delvino family members will be interested in entering this lab.” Venya shook his head disapprovingly. “The important thing is that there is a place for me and my father to sleep ....”Marcel shrugged and did not insist.“Speaking of eating, how was it?” Marcel repeated curiously.“Don’t worry, we have a formula that if taken can cause a sensation of fullness for the next two-three days.” Venya explained.“Are you serious?” Marcel was wide-eyed. “How is that possible?”Venya took a breath and replied, “It can’t be helped ... we had to live frugally after t
Marcel looked flatly at his brothers-in-law.“I don’t think this is a good time to torture our brother-in-law,” Ronnie commented. “Mum and Dad said that if Marcel doesn’t want to eat, we shouldn’t force him.”Ciko snorted.“Gosh, that’s what mum used to say to us.” She commented. “We don’t need to tell mum ....”“Huft, boring!” Alvon chided, he was Marcel’s brother-in-law who was neutral – never defending Marcel, but also never trying to prevent the abuse from happening in front of his eyes.“Ron, today, I’ll just tell Marcel to clean up all the leftovers.” Shirley intervened. “No more fuss, remember, he almost killed himself yesterday because of you.”Marcel wondered why Shirley was defending him this time, though of course that only sparked laughter from the mouths of Ronnie and Ciko.“That’s just because your husband is mentally weak!” scoffed Ciko. “A real man wouldn’t be as weak as him!”Marcel resisted the urge to answer his brother-in-law’s insults.“Even his life refuses to le
Alvon glanced at one of his brothers.“I’m not interested, except for their research on astronomy.” He emphasized.“Who invited you?” said Ciko, reaching for a tissue to wipe his lips. “How is it, brother?”He turned to Ronnie, who was still enjoying his cup of warm milk.“This late at night?” responded Ronnie thoughtfully.“It’s not night yet, after all, Marcel only has free time right now.” Ciko explained. “During the day, he has to be a maid.”Ronnie chuckled, while Shirley remained silent. She still held a grudge because Marcel had asked her to eat her siblings’ leftovers. In the lab, Marcel watched Venya work.“We have to clean up first,” Venya said as she checked the supply of vials in the cupboard. “We have to sort out which ones can still be used.”Marcel nodded and said, “Which part should I clean? There are still tubes that contain chemicals, and one of them I drank once ....”“What?” Venya looked at Marcel with a furrowed brow. “Which one did you drink?”Marcel was silent a
“Here’s to that sassy mouth of yours!” exclaimed Ronnie as he smashed Marcel’s jaw with his fist. “Argh, bastard!”He cursed as his hand hit something hard.“What’s wrong, brother?”“What’s wrong?”Coki and Alvon turned their attention towards Ronnie who was rubbing his knuckles.Marcel himself was confused when suddenly his brother-in-law shouted while he gave no resistance.“What did Marcel do to you?” asked Coki in a probing tone. “Why are you in so much pain?”Ronnie didn’t answer immediately, especially since he still didn’t know exactly what had caused his hand to hit a piece of iron.He was sure that he had hit Marcel’s jaw, but why was his brother-in-law standing still?“Answer me, brother! What did you do to Marcel?” asked Ciko urgently.“Never mind, let’s not talk about it!” replied Ronnie firmly. “Let’s leave this place, let them continue their failed research ... and we should prepare to celebrate their failure.”Ciko and Alvon looked at each other briefly at their eldest
“Can’t you tell me what the characteristics of the liquid you drank were?” asked Venya as she searched among the glass cabinets.“I don’t remember,” Marcel replied immediately. “I was in a frenzy, so I just grabbed the chemicals and downed them.”Venya then faced Marcel and looked at him seriously.“Do you still remember which tube you took?” She asked again.“No, I told you that I just grabbed it.” Marcel explained. “Is it important for us to know what liquid I drank? All that matters is that I’m okay in the end.”Venya sighed.“Of course it’s important, because to my knowledge, none of the formula stock here is safe for consumption.” She explained. “But never mind ... we’ll have a hard time finding a trace of it, since there are no remains of the liquid you drank.”Marcel nodded, he did not remember anything about what happened after he drank the liquid and fell into a coma.“Then what do we do now?” Marcel asked curiously. “I don’t understand at all, so I’ll just handle the funding
As soon as Shirley stepped away and was out of sight, Marcel took his wife’s dirty clothes to the laundry, putting almost everything in the washing machine except for two sheer, low-cut dresses to be washed separately. As a normal man, Marcel certainly had the desire to have intercourse with Shirley. However, that was before he was kicked out the night after they were officially married.“Get as far away from my room as you can! Don’t you ever sleep in the same room with me, look in the mirror first!”From that moment on, Marcel abandoned his male instincts and assumed that he was never married.“Mr Marcelino, breakfast!” Nana looked over to the laundry, where Marcel was sitting in front of a bucket and washing Shirley’s dress using both hands. “Where did I throw the leftovers ...?”Marcel turned to Nana and said, “I’ll take care of it, Nana. Don’t forget to tell your children to eat.”“Yes, Sir.” Nana nodded again and left Marcel to his work. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to help, bu
Moments before ….Diko, who was under pressure, was forced to step back for a moment.“Just give up, leave this lab before we destroy it!”“This lab will forever belong to the Delvino family.”Ivan and his partner moved closer to Diko’s right and left to protect each other.“Where’s Suni?” asked Diko quietly.“Still in the car,” answered Ivan.“He followed Mr Marcelino who saved Mrs Venya,” added another colleague, making Diko stunned.“Wretched!” he thought to himself. The situation in the new lab was starting to get more and more out of control. People fought each other using wood, stone and even iron.“Don’t use firearms!” Ronnie was busy screaming in the middle of the field, as if he were a warlord targeting his prey. “I don’t want any corpses! It could be a hassle with the government!”Aldi employees who didn’t know anything had been running for their lives earlier, helped by several team members who had started to arrive.“Boss, the situation is starting to corner us!” reported
Marcel was now riding in the car that would take him to where the Delvino family was, Aldi had warned him that caution was very important while dealing with the Delvino family.Unbeknownst to anyone, Aldi had apparently mobilized an additional special team to follow them because the Delvino family residence also had many trained bodyguards. And Aldi deliberately chose a route that no one else would have thought of.“We can’t say a word without being asked, understand?” Marcel asked his teammates sharply. “Instead of arguing, it’s better to prepare your energies to face the worst risks in case of a fistfight.”“We understand, Sir.” Diko nodded his head, while Ivan chose to remain silent.Their journey continued for half an hour until they finally entered a large and imposing gate with a gold gilded plaque that read Herman Corporation.“After this, the guard will be tighter,” Marcel murmured in a low whisper. “Make sure we watch what we say, because there’s a chance our conversations co
Marcel looked at the rest of his colleagues in turn after they had painstakingly managed to get permission from Aldi to go forward to look for Ronnie’s whereabouts.“We can’t take all the guys with us,” he told Ivan. “Some have to stay here to keep an eye on Ronnie’s men that we’re holding hostage.”Diko and Ivan listened to Marcel’s words with serious faces.“What kind of person is Ronnie, anyway?” asked Diko curiously. “Do we really have to bring in special guards?”“Ronnie is Herman Delvino’s son,” Marcel replied slowly. “Our initial goal is just to find out what the Delvino family wants. We also need to find Ronnie’s whereabouts to make him accountable to us.”Marcel deliberately tucked a small firearm into his waistband.“The wiretaps won’t work there,” Marcel said again. “We’ll be searched several times, even our mobile phones will be detained according to their security procedures.”Diko paused in thought.“What should we do, Sir?” asked Ivan. “I want to carry a weapon that is
“We’re already a team here,” Marcel said firmly. “What happens in the lab, it’s the same as disrupting this team.”Diko didn’t know what else to say.Several weeks passed ....The arrival of Ronnie’s men who had just returned from hospital was greeted with a tight escort from Aldi’s men.The boy himself has been prepared a special room with super tight supervision so that he cannot escape or establish communication with the people around him.“You have to stay conscious, Gio.” Aldi sat in front of Ronnie’s bed. “I’m sorry about what happened to you ...”“Thank you, but I don’t think that’s necessary!” said Gio while looking at Aldi with a hostile gaze. “My boss is going to get back at you for having the audacity to lock me up in this place ...”“I saved your life, don’t you remember?” asked Aldi flatly, looking at one of Ronnie’s men calculatingly.Gio didn’t answer and just looked away because he was locked up like a prisoner who had to submit at all times to the words of the warders
Furthermore, the man whose name Ronnie did not know was busy mixing something not far from where he was.“Patience, Delvino? I’m making a formula that can fully restore your stamina,” the man joked to himself.Somebody save me, Ronnie thought to himself.“I’ve always hated young men who like to ruin their own bodies, whether it’s smoking, taking certain drugs ...” The man vented his frustration while pouring something into a pipette. “Ah yes, you must not know who I am ... Just call me Professor Rudolf.”Of course, Ronnie did not welcome this extraordinary introduction.Marcel’s brother-in-law could only resign himself, he hoped that the old man would let him go after making the formula for his body’s recovery unconditionally.Although it seemed impossible, as Professor Rudolf seemed obsessed with Ronnie’s physique.“So that’s it,” muttered Professor Rudolf while facing Ronnie. “I’m sorry, but you’ll have to stay here for the time being until the formula is perfect.”Ronnie didn’t und
Aldi split the team into two parts after Marcel received a call from the lab.“Sir, I’ll just go to the family’s house.” Marcel volunteered as Aldi put him on the second team as the search team.“Hold on,” Aldi interrupted, looking at Marcel very sternly. “We don’t know if this is a trap from Delvino’s family or not, Mr Marcelino. So let me send someone to visit there.”Marcel didn’t have time to argue because at that moment Diko came into their midst.“Sir, all the teams are ready.” Diko reported.“We’re leaving now,” Aldi said, then turned to look at Venya. “You should stay in the lab ...”“But ... I owe you and Mr Marcelino a lot, I want to help too,” Venya insisted as she looked at Aldi, making it impossible for him to deny her request.“Let me drive,” Diko said as he grabbed Aldi’s car keys. “You still look sleepy, take a nap while I drive ...”“How can you?” said Aldi as he got into his own car and let Diko drive. “I’m not sure that Mr Herman Delvino would go out of his way, tha
“How is your husband’s divorce going?” Miko asked Shirley, who was sitting next to her.The two of them were in the car and occasionally made out without regard to place and status.“I don’t know, he said he wants to keep divorcing me.” Shirley replied lightly. “Who cares, Marcel never existed-except with my housemaid.”Miko chuckled.“How could you want to marry a man who doesn’t have a good job,” she commented mockingly. “Marry a well-established man, at least one who can satisfy you in every way ....”Shirley tingled when the tip of Miko’s nose touched her ear.“It’s just a debt-redemption marriage,” Shirley argued as Miko moved away. “We’ll see, I’m not sure if Marcel has enough money to organize our divorce ... He thinks divorce doesn’t cost money?”Miko grasped Shirley’s hand as she said, “Until now, he hasn’t moved forward because of what? Because there’s no money!”“Indeed,” Shirley nodded in agreement.“Well, let your husband do what he wants.” Miko said. “With or without him
“You ...” A guard observed Marcel’s face that was slightly hidden behind his messy jet-black hair. “Like the one over there ....”Before the guard could recognize him, Marcel turned around and immediately pulled Venya to run back. He bumped into one or two people who were intent on blocking his way.“Venya, I need your help!” Marcel exclaimed loudly.“Are you sure, Marcel?” Venya called back. “I can’t fight, Marcel!”“You just need to listen to my instructions!” Marcel said. “And do it without asking too many questions!”Venya couldn’t help but nod her head.“The important thing is that I can go home and see my father!” Venya exclaimed almost desperately. “I came here to continue my research, but why is it like this!”Marcel nodded his head, he stopped his running and lifted Venya up by her waist until both of her long legs were lifted off the ground.“Oh my, Marcel!” Venya exclaimed in surprise.“I’m sorry if I’m being rude! But please raise your legs high, I’ll use them to immobiliz
A few days in the new lab ....“You can’t do that, Sir.” Diko argued. “My boss has taken over ownership of this land ....”“Where are the papers then?” asked Ronnie in a debt-collector-like tone.“The letters, that’s my boss’s business.” Diko stood his ground.“If you can’t show us the papers, we’ll take over the land!” threatened Ronnie as he tugged on Diko’s shirt collar. “Do you know who I am? I’m Herman Delvino’s son, you should know that name!”Diko staggered backwards as Ronnie pushed him hard.“Then can you show me the ownership letter from the Delvino family, sir?” said Diko while smoothing the front of his shirt.“What?”“Didn’t you say that if there’s no letter, it means the ownership can be in anyone’s name?” replied Diko cleverly.Ronnie’s face turned bright red when he heard Diko’s words. He then turned to his men who were still standing at attention and shouted, “Level this place with the ground, now!”Diko turned around and was about to mobilise his men in anticipation
