Chapter 50:
Sanaya’s P.O.V
“Sanaya!”
Lancelin was suddenly by my side, covering me as shards of glass flew everywhere along with sparks of fire. Although Lance’s much larger form was covering me, I felt a sting on my arm as a piece of glass embedded itself on my arm.
The entire throne room erupted into commotion as people started running around trying to dodge the glass and fire. Some of the sparks landed on the huge silk curtains and they instantly caught on fire, causing even more fear and panic.
I clutched on to the lapels of Lancelin’s jacket as he wound his arms around me tightly and moved back so we don’t get trampled by the people trying to escape the room. He moved us to the safety of the pedestal where the thrones were and then began barking orders at the guards to get everyone to safety.
“Lance, Sana!” I turned to find Acelin running towards us along
Chapter 51: Lancelin’s P.O.V:“Is everyone out?” I called out to Acelin when the throne room seemed relatively empty aside from my family and a few other trusted soldiers.“Yes,” Acelin confirmed as he came to stand next to me. “The guards are all taking the guests to safety and everyone has cleared the castle.”“Now we find out who’s responsible.” I looked around the room with narrowed eyes. “Has anyone seen Nathaniel?”We looked around the room which was now in chaos. Two huge chandeliers were on the floor with glass shards scattered everywhere. The flower vases had been overturned when people were trying to escape and they too had been shattered into pieces, the flowers trampled to a paste under heavy boots. The fire from the candles in the chandelier had caught onto the heavy silk curtains and were now consuming them with phenomenal speed,
Chapter 52: Lancelin’s P.O.V:“Miaka.” I called out to her and a fraction of a second later; I was free from my binds, my body slowly regaining balance and stability as I rose up from the floor. The door to the throne room burst open and several of my guards entered then, armed and ready to take down the intruders.“Mauve Balfour, Chrone to the Amenite Coven,” Miaka turned to her all the mages cowered away in fear. “Tell me, what has my brother done so wrong that you decided to take matters in your own hand?”While Miaka was speaking, I motioned for Acelin, Erick and my guards to get a hold of the five mages that were now trying to disappear into the shadows. Their bravery only lasted so long as Mauve was the strongest person in the room. The others nodded and using their superhuman speed, caught up with the traitor in no time, holding their hands back and pinning them to
Chapter 53: Sanaya’s P.O.V:Black.That was all I saw no matter where I turned; no matter how many times I blinked my eyes. It was as if I had been shoved into a room that had all the lights switched off. Except, this wasn’t a closed room. It was open space, open enough that I could feel an icy wind blowing against my skin. It’s said that when you lose one of your senses, all the others become heightened, but they couldn’t be more wrong.Other than the chill in the air, all I could feel was panic. Where was I? Why couldn’t I see? Was this really Shadowland? What was Shadowland? The great thing about Shadowland is that no one, mortal or immortal, has ever come out of it, alive or dead.Asmara’s voice rang in my ears and with it came a sense of hopelessness like I’ve never felt before. I felt tears stream down my cheeks as I swung my hands around wil
Chapter 54:Sanaya’s P.O.V:Just when the red orbs had moved dangerously close to me, blocking my exit from all directions, something fell in front of me that had the ground rumble so hard that it knocked me off my feet. I fell to the ground, thankful for the material of the gown that took most of the hit, but my hands came in contact with the rocks and they instantly sliced through my skin, drawing blood. I bit my tongue to keep from crying out loud. It didn’t matter how much pain I was in, I couldn’t give away my location to the newest member who was far too close for comfort. But before I could back away from my attacker, something grabbed a hold of my hand and hauled me to my feet. Strangely, they felt like hands; normal human hands that didn’t burn my skin on contact or draw blood.I looked up at the figure in front of me; and for a second I was struck by the beauty of the eyes that stared back at me
Chapter 55:Sanaya’s P.O.VI woke up with a start; gasping in huge gulps of air like I’d been starving for days.“Hey, it okay! Sanaya.” Lancelin’s voice came from somewhere next to me and I reached my hands out towards him instinctively.A pair of strong arms wrapped around my body, pulling me taunt against a hard muscular chest. “Shhh…it’s okay. You’re safe now. You’re home.”I hadn’t realized I was struggling against him until Lance had to hold me to him even harder, trying to calm me down.“It’s alright. I’m here now. I’ll never leave you again, I promise.” Lance pressed me to his chest even harder and I began to calm down slowly. It took a while for my eyes to the room and I realized that this was no longer the lightless world of Shadowland but Lancelin’s room in Castle Estella. Lance was
Chapter 56:Lancelin’s P.O.VThe tunnels under Castel Estella seemed to last forever. The deeper we went the colder it got. It was a good thing immortals didn’t feel cold or heat the same as humans did. Sanaya would no longer be the same either. She was one of us now. Those icy fingers gripped my chest again as I thought of Sanaya. She still couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that she was no longer a human; that she would now have to watch her loved ones die before her own eyes as she stayed ageless. A sculpture set in stone. Sanaya hadn’t taken the news lightly. But I couldn’t come to regret my decision. Everything I did was to save her. And I would do it a thousand times over if it meant that she would remain by my side for the rest of eternity. I could only hope that by turning her, I didn’t poison her heart against me forever. I couldn’t see a future without Sanaya.
Chapter 57:Sanaya’s P.O.V“Your Highness,” I sat up in bed after much difficulty.“Ah, it’s alright, my child.” King Nathaniel spoke cheerfully. “Stay in bed, you’re injured.”I listened to him and leaned back against the headboard, my strength wasn’t back to full potential yet and my body was aching, but I felt a lot better than I did a few moments ago. The only problem remained the thirst. I knew I had to drink blood but I was trying to avoid the deed for as long as I could.“I’m sorry for not being more presentable, Your Highness.” I told him sincerely. “I wish we could meet under favorable circumstances.”“Oh, what nonsense!” The king waved it off and sat on the edge of my bed. “I should be the one saying sorry for not visiting you earlier. How are you feeling?”“I’m good,
Chapter 58:Lancelin’s P.O.V“Mauve?” Miaka asked surprised as we all rushed out of the dungeons. “But she’s dead.”“Yes and she’s left behind a disciple.” I spoke through gritted teeth as betrayal made my blood boil. “Martin.”“How’s that possible? Martin is without any magean powers.” Acelin said as he rushed to keep up with my strides. “He’s no better than a human.”“Have you heard of dark mages?” I asked them both, pausing for just an instant so I could look at their faces and instantly, Miaka’s eyes widened. “You have, haven’t you? Tell me everything you know.”Miaka might only be sixteen in human years but she had the mind of a genius. She was also very curious and was always looking for clues and details of every race, every species that existed on Earth and learnin
The Accidental DateAcelin’s P.O.VMy mother always told me I was never meant for politics. I was too much my father’s son; an artist, a dreamer and a creator. But not a very good politician.Queen Valleria Eustein had tried her best to groom me in her ways, so I could be ready to take the throne in case my younger half-brother, Lancelin Eustein, turned out to be too much like his father. But it was soon realized that it wasn’t necessary. Even though both of Queen Valleria’s sons looked just like our fathers, everything else came from our mother. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.But now, looking at the man sitting opposite to me, I was beginning to feel at a loss for not having my mother’s keen outlook, her sly way of reading people just by looking at their eyes.“So?” He raised a perfectly groomed eyebrow at me, his dark, dark lips tilting up in
Winter SolsticeSanaya’s P.O.V:“There are way too many guests today…” I told Amber, clutching her hand in mine as we peaked from behind the corridors, at a safe distance from the crowd and hidden in the shadows.Lancelin had decided to throw a sort of ‘after-party’ to celebrate his coronation properly, since his actual coronation ended up in a disaster. Also, since Queen mother Valleria had rushed to get the crown on Lance’s head, the coronation had been super rushed, which meant that a lot of people, including several members of the Dark Council, hadn’t been able to attend. Hence the after-party.“Don’t be a sissy!” Amber scolded. “You’re a vampire now, a part of the immortal world itself and Lancelin’s fiancé. Hold your head high and rock the shit out of this party.”I looked at Amber wide eyed. Why
PermissionLancelin’s P.O.V:“How do I look?” I asked Acelin as he raised an eyebrow at me.“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the clothes or your hairstyle.” Acelin shrugged, looking me up and down. This was probably the first time in my life that I had asked my older half-brother for his opinions on my clothes and he was quiet enjoying my dilemma. It may not look like it but I’d put a lot of effort into today’s clothes and my appearance. I had dumped my usual dark suits for a steel grey suit jacket and trousers, paired with a sky colored shirt. I had also combed my hair back and skipped the gel. Light colors are supposed to make you more attractive and charming, right?I had also chosen the flowers carefully as well as the gifts and I had made sure that the dinner reservations were up to the mark. Everything had to be perfect
Epilogue:The Dark Council Vault“Thank you for gathering here,” Miaka spoke to the general audience, her brothers and sister, gathered around a round table. The vault was mental and every member was here through their sub-consciousness; but every decision made here was very much conscious. She had been able to create these mental vaults since she was a child and they became very useful as she grew up when she could arrange emergency Dark Council meetings without everyone having to be physically present. She had been influenced by the legend of King Arthur and his round table for his knights while designing the outline for this mental room, in which all the Knights bore equal power. Similarly, all Kings and Queen here were equal, even though they considered her their leader. Each King/Queen was also given a throne to sit on.“We are here today to discuss a pressing issue at our hands.” Miaka looked
Chapter 61:Sanaya’s P.O.VThe entire terrace was lit up like a Christmas tree. Fairy lights hung from the railing of the terrace and the roses were bordered with red fairy lights to bring them to life. Even the gazebo was lit up and there were red velvet drapes all around them to give us privacy. But the biggest surprise was the table set in the middle of the terrace, right in front of the lotus shaped fountain. It has several food items, wine and even champagne and what appeared to be a red velvet cake, all surrounded by fresh plucked roses.“Happy Birthday.” Lance whispered into my ears as he wrapped his arms around me from behind.“Oh my God…” I whispered in surprise. “It’s November 3rd already? How could I have forgotten my own birthday?”“I don’t blame you.” Lance said, still whispering so as not to ruin the serenity of
Chapter 60:Sanaya’s P.O.VEvery Incubus in the Kingdom mourned the loss of the former King. They were spared the gory details about his advent into darkness and how he wanted to manipulate Mages and other creatures of Shadowland to gain control over other dimensions. It was a unanimous decision by the Queen mother, Lance and Acelin. The people will remember Nathaniel Eustein as a just King who died to save his son from a corrupt mage. He would become a hero and Lancelin could rule proudly as a martyr’s son rather than the son of a traitor. Everything had been calculated carefully to secure Lancelin’s rule and I was in agreement with it no matter how much it hurt to stand in the front line of the grand funeral service that had been arranged for the King.“Sometimes, it’s the best option to grin and bear than to face a revolt. I’d survived the loss of my mate…I cannot bear to surv
Chapter 59:Sanaya’s P.O.V“Martin?” The King asked with a frown, his hands still holding me down on the bed.“I’m trying but nothing seems to work on her.” Martin looked at me confused before chanting another spell…but once again, nothing happened.“What the hell are you doing, you useless bruja!” Nathaniel yelled at Martin and the next instant, he was being slammed against the wall beside the bed, allowing me to untangle myself from the bed sheets and scurry away. When I noticed that Martin and Nathaniel were focused on each other, I got off the bed and rolled under it, away from their sight. I needed to plan my escape but I had to get away from their line of vision first.“Martin!” Nathaniel spoke a warning, but Martin didn’t loosen his hold. I didn’t know what happened next but very calmly, Nathaniel told Martin to loosen hi
