Chapter 17:
Sanaya’s P.O.V
There was an air of authority around the woman. It was in the way that she walked, the way every head in the party turned to her, and the cunning tilt of her lips as she deliberately ignored the gasps and woos.
Her dress was sleeveless, exposing delicate shoulders. The sweetheart neckline was just decent enough to entice, to seduce. The gown hugged her narrow waist before flaring into a floor length skirt that flirted with her ankles while having a slit long enough that exposed one slender leg that stretched for miles. Her gown was all black with tiny crystals glittering all over the material. Her midnight black hair was pinned to one side and the delicate curls hung loose to her lower black. Her smoky eyes were a gorgeous emerald, like two gemstones glowing from within and her lips were painted an exquisite bright red. Anyone could’ve mistaken her for a goddess; her beauty was just as pote
Chapter 18:Lancelin’s P.O.VWe arrived at ReefWood HQ in less than fifteen minutes thanks to Martins driving. Amber Rose had wanted to come with us but as it was her party, she couldn’t leave her guests unattended. So we had told her to stay behind and enjoy her party and we had promised that we would inform her if she was needed. Tanya motioned toward my office with dreary eyes as soon as I entered with Acelin and Sanaya on my heels. Looks like my mother was not in a good mood and it turned out to be a big understatement when we reached my office. At five feet two, my mother was on the shorter spectrum but her personality more than made up for her short stature. She had her clan’s signature red hair only hers was a bright apple red that reached her waist. Today she had it in a tight braid down her spine and she wore a black form fitting dress that was full sleeved and reached her knees, making her hair stand
Chapter 19:Sanaya’s P.O.VIt was past one o’ clock in the morning when Mrs. Eustein finally left the building with both his sons following her out. Both Acelin and Lancelin’s expressions were grim and I had a feeling that whatever they talked about was not a normal mother and son conversation. I would know; my mom always gets pissy when something really serious is going on.I felt a bit stupid for waiting for so long to speak to Lancelin. Just one kiss and I’d started acting like a love-sick puppy that cared too much about her boyfriend. In fact, Lancelin and I were very unsure at where we stood in our relationship, or at least I was. Amber was sure that Lancelin liked me, but when it came to an Incubus, I was a bit unsure as to which spectrum the ‘like’ category fell into. Did it mean that he like liked me or thought of me as his next prospective meal? Acelin had written in his file that Lan
Chapter 20:Sanaya’s P.O.VNervously, I looked at the clock once more as I typed my final report for the day and shut down my computer. Unlike Acelin’s cabin which had a transparent glass divider that allowed me to look inside his office, Lancelin’s cabin was surrounded by a black stained glass walls, making visibility impossible. Which was an unfair advantage because Lancelin could see everything that went on outside his office. It was past seven in the evening and the humongous lobby in front of me was completely empty, with no clients, no more paperwork and none of Lancelin’s odd jobs left for me to do. Even the plants and artificial flowers lining the glass windows were spotless, which gave me absolutely nothing to do except fidget over what Lance might want to do next.It had been a month after the events at Amber’s party and Lance had been pretty silent about the whole deal as had Aceli
Chapter 21:Sanaya’s P.O.VI was dressed in a Ralph Lauren original gown in bright red with a flaring skirt that had an ombre effect as the colour got darker as the gown touched the floor. The bottom of the gown turned to a dark red that almost looked black. I had been given matching red stilettos and red diamond drop earrings. My hair was in loose waves around my face and the stylist had kept it simple with providing more focus to the dress itself. The dress had thin straps with a V-neck and a bejeweled pendent at tip of the V. the ruby was a bright red and if my guess was right, it was either a real ruby or a very expensive substitute stone of some kind.“Is this really okay?” I asked Lance as Martin drove us to our destination. “I mean, the dress and everything e-”“You should be more confident about yourself, Sanaya.” Lancelin sighed. “What happened to the woman I met th
Chapter 22:Sanaya’s P.O.V“Sana?”I froze.A chill ran down my spine and I just froze on the spot. My mind went completely blank for a few seconds as the sound of his voice reverberated inside my head.Keith. Keith Salustri.I could never forget his voice. The voice of the man that I had loved for eight years. The man who I thought would stay with me forever. The man who I dreamed to get old with. And…the man who left me without a second thought, not even bothering to break up with me in person.“Sana.” Keith’s face lit up with a smile.I’d played out this scenario inside my head a million times, in a thousand different ways. I thought I knew what would happen when I met him once again. I thought I knew what he’d say and how I’d react to them. But nothing in my life could’ve actually prepared me for this day.He looked e
Chapter 23:Lancelin’s P.O.VI watched her eyes roll back into her head and immediately wrapped my arms around her to break her fall.“Sanaya?” I shook her slightly but she was out cold.Resting her head on my shoulder, I hoisted her up in my arms and headed straight for door. People moved out of the way instantly as they saw me coming and thankfully Martin was already standing outside with the car ready to go.“Sana!”“Lancelin!”Two voices sounded from behind me. One belonging to Asmara and the second to the unknown male I was soon going to know everything about. Ignoring them both, I placed Sanaya inside the car carefully as Martin held the door open for us and then strapped her in and moved to the other side so I could get in.“Put the AC on full power.” I ordered Martin as soon as he got inside. “And head straight to the hospital.
Chapter 24:Sanaya’s P.O.V“I’m right here…”“Lance?” I asked groggily as the fog slowly cleared from my mind.Everything that had happened flashed before my eyes as the fog cleared and I pressed my fingers to my temples to stop the sudden throbbing, only to notice wires hooked to my arm.Keith.He was back.I remember seeing him at the charity dinner…and then…“Did I faint?” I asked hoarsely.“No. You had a stress attack.” Lancelin told me, squeezing my arm lightly. His hand was warm, comforting. I didn’t feel as stressed when he was around. It felt like I could take on the world. Slowly, I tightened my fingers around his a fraction, a bit hesitant at first, but when Lance put another hand on top of mine, I released the breath I had been holding.“You’re not going to ask me a
Chapter 25:Sanaya’s P.O.VI’ll be right here beside you…till the very end.Lance’s words stayed with me for the entire night as did Lance. He sat beside my bed with my hand held in his as I slept peacefully. No nightmares haunted me, no flashbacks played through my mind. I felt relieved…like sharing the most painful incident of my past with Lance had liberated my mind of all the hurt.Yes, I still miss my child dearly, so much so that I sometimes blame myself for not being capable enough to have given birth to my son. But as Acelin had pointed out several times before, it had never been my fault. Only now did I truly understand the implications of his words and how heartfelt they had been. He had never blamed Dilayla for not being able to give birth to his child and from the way he loved me, I could tell that he could’ve been…no, he was an amazing father. He had been
The Accidental DateAcelin’s P.O.VMy mother always told me I was never meant for politics. I was too much my father’s son; an artist, a dreamer and a creator. But not a very good politician.Queen Valleria Eustein had tried her best to groom me in her ways, so I could be ready to take the throne in case my younger half-brother, Lancelin Eustein, turned out to be too much like his father. But it was soon realized that it wasn’t necessary. Even though both of Queen Valleria’s sons looked just like our fathers, everything else came from our mother. And we wouldn’t have it any other way.But now, looking at the man sitting opposite to me, I was beginning to feel at a loss for not having my mother’s keen outlook, her sly way of reading people just by looking at their eyes.“So?” He raised a perfectly groomed eyebrow at me, his dark, dark lips tilting up in
Winter SolsticeSanaya’s P.O.V:“There are way too many guests today…” I told Amber, clutching her hand in mine as we peaked from behind the corridors, at a safe distance from the crowd and hidden in the shadows.Lancelin had decided to throw a sort of ‘after-party’ to celebrate his coronation properly, since his actual coronation ended up in a disaster. Also, since Queen mother Valleria had rushed to get the crown on Lance’s head, the coronation had been super rushed, which meant that a lot of people, including several members of the Dark Council, hadn’t been able to attend. Hence the after-party.“Don’t be a sissy!” Amber scolded. “You’re a vampire now, a part of the immortal world itself and Lancelin’s fiancé. Hold your head high and rock the shit out of this party.”I looked at Amber wide eyed. Why
PermissionLancelin’s P.O.V:“How do I look?” I asked Acelin as he raised an eyebrow at me.“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the clothes or your hairstyle.” Acelin shrugged, looking me up and down. This was probably the first time in my life that I had asked my older half-brother for his opinions on my clothes and he was quiet enjoying my dilemma. It may not look like it but I’d put a lot of effort into today’s clothes and my appearance. I had dumped my usual dark suits for a steel grey suit jacket and trousers, paired with a sky colored shirt. I had also combed my hair back and skipped the gel. Light colors are supposed to make you more attractive and charming, right?I had also chosen the flowers carefully as well as the gifts and I had made sure that the dinner reservations were up to the mark. Everything had to be perfect
Epilogue:The Dark Council Vault“Thank you for gathering here,” Miaka spoke to the general audience, her brothers and sister, gathered around a round table. The vault was mental and every member was here through their sub-consciousness; but every decision made here was very much conscious. She had been able to create these mental vaults since she was a child and they became very useful as she grew up when she could arrange emergency Dark Council meetings without everyone having to be physically present. She had been influenced by the legend of King Arthur and his round table for his knights while designing the outline for this mental room, in which all the Knights bore equal power. Similarly, all Kings and Queen here were equal, even though they considered her their leader. Each King/Queen was also given a throne to sit on.“We are here today to discuss a pressing issue at our hands.” Miaka looked
Chapter 61:Sanaya’s P.O.VThe entire terrace was lit up like a Christmas tree. Fairy lights hung from the railing of the terrace and the roses were bordered with red fairy lights to bring them to life. Even the gazebo was lit up and there were red velvet drapes all around them to give us privacy. But the biggest surprise was the table set in the middle of the terrace, right in front of the lotus shaped fountain. It has several food items, wine and even champagne and what appeared to be a red velvet cake, all surrounded by fresh plucked roses.“Happy Birthday.” Lance whispered into my ears as he wrapped his arms around me from behind.“Oh my God…” I whispered in surprise. “It’s November 3rd already? How could I have forgotten my own birthday?”“I don’t blame you.” Lance said, still whispering so as not to ruin the serenity of
Chapter 60:Sanaya’s P.O.VEvery Incubus in the Kingdom mourned the loss of the former King. They were spared the gory details about his advent into darkness and how he wanted to manipulate Mages and other creatures of Shadowland to gain control over other dimensions. It was a unanimous decision by the Queen mother, Lance and Acelin. The people will remember Nathaniel Eustein as a just King who died to save his son from a corrupt mage. He would become a hero and Lancelin could rule proudly as a martyr’s son rather than the son of a traitor. Everything had been calculated carefully to secure Lancelin’s rule and I was in agreement with it no matter how much it hurt to stand in the front line of the grand funeral service that had been arranged for the King.“Sometimes, it’s the best option to grin and bear than to face a revolt. I’d survived the loss of my mate…I cannot bear to surv
Chapter 59:Sanaya’s P.O.V“Martin?” The King asked with a frown, his hands still holding me down on the bed.“I’m trying but nothing seems to work on her.” Martin looked at me confused before chanting another spell…but once again, nothing happened.“What the hell are you doing, you useless bruja!” Nathaniel yelled at Martin and the next instant, he was being slammed against the wall beside the bed, allowing me to untangle myself from the bed sheets and scurry away. When I noticed that Martin and Nathaniel were focused on each other, I got off the bed and rolled under it, away from their sight. I needed to plan my escape but I had to get away from their line of vision first.“Martin!” Nathaniel spoke a warning, but Martin didn’t loosen his hold. I didn’t know what happened next but very calmly, Nathaniel told Martin to loosen hi
Chapter 58:Lancelin’s P.O.V“Mauve?” Miaka asked surprised as we all rushed out of the dungeons. “But she’s dead.”“Yes and she’s left behind a disciple.” I spoke through gritted teeth as betrayal made my blood boil. “Martin.”“How’s that possible? Martin is without any magean powers.” Acelin said as he rushed to keep up with my strides. “He’s no better than a human.”“Have you heard of dark mages?” I asked them both, pausing for just an instant so I could look at their faces and instantly, Miaka’s eyes widened. “You have, haven’t you? Tell me everything you know.”Miaka might only be sixteen in human years but she had the mind of a genius. She was also very curious and was always looking for clues and details of every race, every species that existed on Earth and learnin
Chapter 57:Sanaya’s P.O.V“Your Highness,” I sat up in bed after much difficulty.“Ah, it’s alright, my child.” King Nathaniel spoke cheerfully. “Stay in bed, you’re injured.”I listened to him and leaned back against the headboard, my strength wasn’t back to full potential yet and my body was aching, but I felt a lot better than I did a few moments ago. The only problem remained the thirst. I knew I had to drink blood but I was trying to avoid the deed for as long as I could.“I’m sorry for not being more presentable, Your Highness.” I told him sincerely. “I wish we could meet under favorable circumstances.”“Oh, what nonsense!” The king waved it off and sat on the edge of my bed. “I should be the one saying sorry for not visiting you earlier. How are you feeling?”“I’m good,
