Chapter 22 - Darren

He put me in charge. Yeah, real subtle, André. Remind me to thank him after this is over. I’m getting dirty looks from his pack, and while I’m not fluent in Italian, I know enough.

Azriel loves learning the swear words for countries we would get stations. So yes, I know precisely what a succhiacazzi is.

Cardinal wanted to be unleashed to teach them manners, but I wouldn’t let him. They think I was put in charge because they assume their Alpha heir has a thing for me. There is no point in getting into a fight with them right now.

‘Well, they aren’t wrong. I mean, I don’t think André put us in charge because we’re his mate. But he certainly does have a thing for us.’ Cardinal snickered.

That’s beside the point. My point is these aren’t the first wolves to assume I’m some kiss ass or something for moving up in the ranks.

When we quickly went from navy recruits to SEALs, my brothers and I were looked down on. No one thought a tri

Everything made a lot of sense when Darren explained his actions. It wasn’t him being disobedient. He felt something was off and investigated. And as a result, we caught three Madonie warriors who probably had nefarious intentions by sneaking past innocent civilian wolves as cover. I’m still not sure about the rogue. I’m not going to discredit what Darren said about seeing him tapping his paw like a code. But I also think the boy was telling the truth, that he was pressed into working for Icky Iggy. We’ll get to the bottom of it either way. For all his words made his concern sound platonic at best and indifferent at worst, I saw past it. I saw the cracks in that facade of his. He was worried about me. Not because I’m an Alpha heir or what getting hurt might mean to my family. Nope, he was worried about me because he didn’t want to lose me. He was worried about me as his mate. And I can’t even tell you how happy that made me. It’s little things lik

Fucking mate bond. It’s got me so confused. Spend twenty-five years with one mindset of who I am. Then I meet André and everything changes. I know Cardinal thinks I’m focusing on the wrong thing. And that’s easy for him to say. I’m just still confused. And the more I’m around André, the closer literally and metaphorically I get to him, the more confused I get. Part of me is drawn closer, the bond pulling me to him like a magnet. But there’s still part of me that can’t fully accept this sudden change. I think space is probably the best thing. Then maybe I can reflect and really think this through. I’m an analytical person. I need to think things through. To analyze all the pros and cons. ‘Fuck pros and cons. I have your list. Pro of being with André, he’s our mate, and we get to be complete. Con of being with André, NONE. Pro of not being with André, NONE. Con of not being with André, we die slowly from heartache.’ Cardinal rolled his eyes.

I folded my arms, standing at the end of Ivan’s bed glaring at the behemoth. “How did you get here? I mean, I know how they brought you. But what caused the need for you to be there? And why didn’t anyone tell me before they dared move you?” I growled my questions aloud. I didn’t like this. I didn’t like any of this, damn it. My head turned as the door opened, and my Zio and Alexander stepped inside. “Is someone watching Silvano? What was he doing at the patrol office this morning? What was he doing alone in this room when I arrived?” I questioned. Zio held both hands up. I guess my words and posture came off more aggressive than I meant. “Sorry, Zio. I’m not angry with you. I just don’t like this whole situation.” I apologized, frowning. “It’s alright. Your papa would be just as in my face if not worse, and I’ve been his best friend my whole life.” Zio assured me with a smile. I suppose that did offer me some relie

If you want a Delaney with a short temper and who will mouth off to an authority figure, you call Azriel. That’s never been me. I was never the one with a discipline problem. Cardinal and I have always been on the same page about that. We take things in stride and don’t lose our cool. I got pulled into this room just to have accusations thrown at me. Doubt cast upon not just me but my pack’s alliance with Incubi. Insinuations that I would leverage André’s attraction to me to betray him and his pack. To say I was pissed was probably an understatement. But what really riled me was Damon calling André’s judgment into question. To have Damon stand here talking about André as if he’s some child rather than the acting Alpha of this pack. ‘How fucking dare he disrespect our mate. Put him in his place!’ Cardinal was snarling in my mind. He wanted to take control, and for a brief moment, I let him, partially, when André gave me the approval

“Today proved that we need to improve our nonverbal communication with Incubi to succeed in this war. Tomorrow morning at sunrise, we will all report for training with the Incubi warriors. Training will be led by Alpha André, Beta Alexander, and Miss Zoe. I expect everyone to be on time and to behave themselves.” My eyes landed on Clement, narrowing. “If you step out of line, if you disrespect our hosts, you will be punished. You represent Bloodmoon. You represent our Alpha. So when considering an action, first ask yourself, would Alpha Logan kick my ass if I say/do this? If the answer is yes, don’t say it and don’t do it.” I warned. There were a few snickers, some nudging Clement, who grumbled. “You are all dismissed for the evening.” I have questions, and Collin’s going to answer them. “Collin, I want to speak with you privately.” I dismissed the warriors gesturing for Collin to follow me. Collin smiled and followed me without a word. Though tha

Darren standing up to Zio Damon and Alexander yesterday was hot. It took a lot of self-control to not go to Darren’s room and have my way with him. I honestly should be rewarded for my self-control. I’m serious. I don’t want some cookies. I want him, naked in my bed. But I managed to hold out, excited to see him for morning training. My mind was already set. He was going to be my sparring partner. I am all for getting to touch him, and Duilio is eager to get a better and more personal look at Darren’s wolf. Maybe a proper introduction to his mate. My eyes went to the doors as the Bloodmoon pack warriors walked in. They were in two straight militant lines. I should expect no less with my mate in charge of them. I smiled when I saw the ever adorable Isis walk in, positioned in line behind Darren and in front of Kurt. Lucky girl. Not a bad sandwich to be in the middle of. Not that I’m saying I want Kurt. He’s all hers. And he

It took him a moment, but he got to his feet, coughing up blood. I didn’t give him time to catch his breath. As soon as he seemed steady enough on his feet, I landed a roundhouse kick to his face sending him back down. This time he didn’t try to move. “Alexander, check him.” I nodded to the limp boy. Alexander hurried forward and checked for a pulse. “He’s unconscious but alive. He should be taken to the hospital. I think you broke some ribs with your first kick.” Alexander explained. Alexander motioned for two medical staff we always have on hand for training to come over and take Clement away. Once he was taken away, I relaxed my posture and smiled at the crowd. “Now then. As you can see, running your mouth gets you nowhere but the hospital. So moving f

I usually have better control than this. Since I was seventeen, I haven’t lost control over Cardinal, and he didn’t like the way Beta Wade, now Sub-Beta Wade, talked to a newly shifted she-wolf. If my brothers hadn’t been there to pull me, or rather Cardinal back, I’d have gotten a worse punishment. I got off light with a night in silver for disrespecting a Beta. I know Knox would have given me something worse if I’d actually fought Wade. André stopping Cardinal only saved Clement from dying at my hands. It actually put Clement in a worse fate as he was hauled off to fight André. Unlike back then, it wasn’t me who was being saved from a worse fate by someone else stopping Cardinal. ‘Little fucker is lucky he’s only going to the hospital and not the afterlife. How dare he speak that way about our mate.’ Cardinal was still grumbling as I watched Clement get carted away. My attention was quickly taken by André as he conf

Éowyn POVI spent today with Grandma. It was fun. She let me try some of the treats she was eating. I can say that I liked the bacio, chocolate and hazelnut for you Americans, gelato. It reminded me of the before times. The before times were before my siblings and I were taken from the womb. Other than tasty treats, Grandma bought me a little moon plushie toy that caught my eye. It’s officially my favorite thing. I don’t know what the moon has to do with what we are celebrating, but I do know that the moon is important to our people. And well, I love the moon. It’s so pretty to look at in the night sky. When we got home, we all got a bath, yuck. I wouldn’t say I like baths. Amaryllis loves baths so much she plays around in the water. I prefer to get it over with and get out of the water. Who wants to sit in their filth? But whatever. After bath time, we were put in special pajamas for the holiday. They were comfier than those fancy clothes we had to wear for the festival. “Azriel,

Lando POVAs expected after the incident, the presence of on-duty warriors around the Christmas festival became more apparent. Dad and Papa were taking no chances that another attempt would happen. To help ensure the safety of the heirs, they were moved from their strollers to the chest baby carriers. I wasn’t surprised that Papa took Caspian. They never play favorites, but someone just tried to kidnap Cas, so it’s natural to be more protective of him today. I was pleasantly surprised that I was entrusted with Aragon. I would have thought the babies would be with adults, specifically those with wolves, to protect them better. It felt good that I was trusted to protect my baby brother. I won’t have my wolf for another two years, but wolf or not, I would fight to my last breath to protect any of my siblings. We stuck together as we moved around the festival. I stopped at one of the game booths when Aragon showed interest in one of the toys on display. What kind of big brother would I

Darren POVI have not been this terrified since Delilah had that placenta issue in April. I had hoped I would never be that afraid again. Yet when that fucking photographer took Caspian from me, I felt it in my gut something was wrong. It didn’t settle my nerves that he also had Amaryllis move from André to Dad. The more times I saw the babies rearranged, the angrier I became. It was like those con artists with the pebble under the cup. Keeping track of where all four babies went was their plan. They thought they could hand Caspian to someone who wasn’t part of the family and get away with it. They thought wrong. I noticed the switch, and Caspian was not the baby that would go quietly. My boy has his Papa’s sass when a situation isn’t to his liking. I had passed Amaryllis to Sadria and shouted for my brothers to get the photographer as I ran toward Caspian’s cries. André had been right on my heels when he handed Aragon to Alison. André had shifted mid-chase and used his speed to g

André POV Everyone knows that I live for celebrations. I go all out for holidays, especially Christmas. This year and probably every Christmas till my babies are grown enough to say, ‘Papa, stop,’ I am going to go all out. This will be my babies’ 1st Christmas, and I want it to be spectacular. I know they are only five months old and won’t remember it, but there will be pictures and videos that we can show them as they grow up. All Madonie wanted to celebrate and make this Christmas special for their new princes and princesses. We’ve been often asked which heirs were mine, but we never tell. Sure, we gave Caspian and Aragon my surname, while our girls Amaryllis and Éowyn have Darren’s. But that’s not common knowledge. And I don’t know if I’ll keep it that way. I’ve considered updating their official birth certificates to Delaney-D’Amore for all four. As far as the pack knows, their surnames are all D’Amore. It might be wrong, but I want to keep it that way. I won’t have them tre

One of my favorite holidays is tomorrow! And for the first time, I have someone to celebrate with. I can’t wait to spend the day with Darren. Oh, the plans I have for that man. I know my mate inside and out. And you can take that any way you want. Innuendo or otherwise, it’s true. Darren hides his emotions well behind that handsome mask. “So you got big plans for tomorrow?” Colby’s question had me confused. I furrowed my brow watching as my identical brother’s expression went from neutral to concerned to now he’s laughing. The fucker calls me on video chat while I’m busy with pack business and laughs at me. “What? Why are you laughing?” I sighed. My brother makes no sense sometimes. I honestly think he’s just trying to mess with me. “You… oh Goddess. You forgot what tomorrow is!” Colby’s words were coming out in huffs of laughter. He was so loud Alison waddled into the frame. She didn’t look pleased with the disturbance. “What are you so loud about? I was enjoying an excellent book

  • The Hybrid Alpha    Epilogue - André

I’ve heard the saying that time flies when you’re having fun. And I have to say it’s true. Five years ago, I was an Alpha heir who was single and happily mingling. Today I’m the Alpha of Madonie celebrating my fifth anniversary with my mate and will be throwing a birthday bash for our son’s thirteenth birthday in a few weeks. How can we have a thirteen year old when we’ve only been together for five years? Duh, the same way two males could have a kid. Adoption. Adding Lando to our family was like the cherry on top. He just made it all come together. Love that kid. This is why today’s meeting is kind of annoying me. I’m sitting in one of the meeting rooms at the Incubi town hall. Why am I in Incubi? Beyond coming to spoil my little sisters? Trust me, those girls want for nothing. They’ve got us all wrapped around their tiny toddler pinkies. Lando is in love with his aunties. I digress. I’m here having a tri-pack meeting with Papa and Tiberius. Our mates and Betas are of cours

  • The Hybrid Alpha    Epilogue - Darren

The last few months have been a whirlwind in Madonie. Our villa’s construction is moving along very fast. A lot faster than I thought it would. But I suppose when everything is being handled within the pack, things get done quicker. Before we boarded our flight to Bloodmoon, our contractor told us we should be able to move in not long after we return. That, of course, made André and Lando happy. While neither has any dislike for the pack villa, André has talked about having our own family home enough that Lando is excited to have a home again that will be just for his family. I think part of Lando’s reasoning is that we’ve adopted him, so he’d like to not live in the pack villa with the other orphans still waiting to either be claimed by family or adopted by new families. And I can’t fault him for that. The kids started treating him differently after we officially adopted him. He went from being what they called the favored to now the Pr
