Chapter 64

“I can take her to the pack infirmary.” Someone argues in hushed whispers as strong arms scoop me into their embrace.

“You’re still a Rogue. It’s easier for me to take her in.” Another voice, the one the arms belongs to, retorts with a snort. It is clear to me that my deep sleep is now over as I open my eyes to find Quincy holding me and Rune glaring at him.

“How about I just walk in there myself.” I state, watching both me jump in surprise. I cling to Quincy for a moment, scared he will drop me and glare at my friend as he apologetically sets me on my feet. Looking between both men, I can see that there is a spark of rivalry brewing between them and I take a deep breath before I yell at the two idiot males that seem to be contending for my attention. Something inside me tells me that my some-what quiet life is going to become hectic now that Rune is in the picture again.

“Are you going to be joining Crescent Phoenix?” I turn to look at Rune, asking the one question I am pr

Chapter 65Watching Brynlee walk into the pack infirmary is harder than I thought it would be after having her in my arms for a week. I should be in there, holding her and helping her through the what ever exams the Doctors have that will bring up the trauma she has gone through thanks to that vile Viren.“She seems mad with us.” Quincy states as soon as the door closes and Brynlee can no longer hear us.“Most likely mad at me and annoyed with you.” I add, getting a glare from the red headed wolf.“I won’t ask what happened but I have an inkling of it considering you both carried each other’s scents when I picked you both up.” Quincy sighs out, his gaze returning to the doors Brynlee disappeared behind.“For now, we should give her some space.” I growl at Quincy’s words but he is right. Brynlee went through a lot and judging from what my Aunt told us before we attacked Onix Moon, Brynlee will need some time to deal with the aftermath of being kidnapped. Quincy suggests taking me to wh

Chapter 66Knocking on my door has me glaring at the wooden barrier in annoyance. I had just finished my shower ten minutes ago, learning that my whole body has been surviving on nothing but adrenaline for the last few weeks. Crumbling into the soft bed had been the best decision I made and the ten minutes of silence was bliss – that is until the person on the other side decided to knock and continued to knock when I try to ignore them in hopes the person visiting me would go away. Unfortunately for me, it seems my unwanted house guest is just as stubborn as I am and refuse to leave. With a sigh, I make my way to my door and open it to find Jett standing on the other side, a brown paper bag that carries the scent of burgers cradled in the crook of his left arm.“Heard through the grapevine that you returned to Crescent Phoenix and thought you would be hungry.” He says before I can greet him. I want to tell him that I am fine, but my stomach decides to growl loudly, clearly proving to

Chapter 67Little giggles bring me out of my sleep and I smile as I listen to Lunette and Henry giggle by the bedroom door. I can smell the scent of raspberry jam on toast and have a feeling the two pups brought me breakfast.“Be quiet you two. You’re going to wake her.” Chase chimes in quietly, most likely trying to get his siblings under control.“I am already awake.” I call out, shuffling in bed to sit up. Henry and Lunette look at me with slight pouts and I spread my arms open wide as I give them a smile. The two pups rushing to the bed, climbing in quickly to hug me with one on either side. Chase shakes his head, coming forward with the tray filled with breakfast. He seems calmer, like the power in his blood is considerably under control from the last time I saw him.“How did you sleep?” He asks, motioning for his siblings to give me some space as he sets the tray across my lap.“Better than I thought I would.” I admit, taking the mug of tea and sipping on the hot liquid. Chapter 68The urge to kick down the door is strong as I had scented Brynlee just inside. I knew she was watching me talking to Chase. Knew she knew I was here to check on her, but she still allowed that little shit of a cousin I have to slam the door in my face. I know I deserve it, deserve the cold shoulder from Chase and his siblings, but it still stings when they are my only family here. Letting out a sigh, I rub my hand across my face while reluctantly leaving the porch.Quincy had sent me a text last night telling me to be at the pack house by ten in the morning to meet the Warrior I will be shadowing. I thought this would be a good opportunity to see Brynlee and ask how she is doing so I woke up earlier than I needed to and made my way down to my Aunt’s house. I was not prepared for my cousin to stop me as soon as I opened the front door. Never would have expected the fifteen-year-old to have so much power pre-shift. I could try to barge inside, demand to see Brynlee, but that

Chapter 69Watching the pack gather around the pack house, I can’t help but be impressed by how well the bonfire turned out. Gale and Jett had done a good job organizing it while Asteria was away at Onix Moon and I was indisposed. Since the small party started, I have been approached by many pack mates welcoming me back home, telling me to take it easy and just focus on healing. Thankfully, no one has asked what I have been through, deciding that it is a taboo subject. For that, I am grateful. I don’t think I can handle recounting my abduction and the final moment with Alpha Valor before I was rescued.“He keeps staring at you.” Quincy mutters under his breath as a she-wolf named Clair explains that they have started building our own decoy town just outside the pack borders. I turn to where the heated gaze I have felt for a while is and find Rune staring at me. I try to focus on Clair as she goes on and on about a fashion boutique she plans to open but have a hard time when his eyes f

Chapter 70Standing with Ricky and his friends at the bonfire close to the pack house, my eyes continue to scan the clearing while keeping an eye on Brynlee. So many times I have had to fight my instinct of marching up to her and holding her in my arms. The only thing stopping me was knowing that Brynlee needed her pack after what she went through. Right now, she is lounging by one of the four bonfires, a stick in hand as she roasts marshmallows.“Why don’t you go see her?” Ricky asks, playfully bumping my shoulder with his.“Because she needs space.” I answer. Then it happens. Brynlee turns towards me, her gaze meeting mine. She smiles at me, the same smile she used to give me that would always draw me in mysteriously when we pups.I can’t help but look away, feeling my face heat up as I try not to think of how that smile makes me want to capture my Mate and repeat the night of her eighteenth birthday – this time ending it with me marking her. Chapter 71“What do you mean it wasn’t a spur of the moment thing?” I demand, feeling fear creep in. I find myself clinging closer to Rune and thankfully, he doesn’t push me away. Instead, he pulls me closer, his hand leaving my hair and rubbing my back in soothing circles.“What Asteria means is that her and Tristan found emails between Valor and Viren.” Gale answers, giving me a sad smile. It takes a moment for his words to register but when they do, I realize that Valor planed a scheme against me once again.“Valor knew that Viren was looking for a Luna, be that his Goddess given Mate or someone he chose. He used this as an advantage and told Viren about you. How he had Rune reject you and that you needed a Mate.” Asteria takes over explaining, her eyes growing hard as hatred seeps from her.“He already knew about you before coming to Crescent Phoenix. He was just shocked that you were the Beta of the pack as he thought he would have to find you.” She continues, growling at the end

Chapter 72Sitting in my office, I go over the emails that I asked Asteria to forward to me. After the meeting learning about the real reason behind my parents’ deaths and how ruthless Valor is, I pulled away from Rune, needing some quiet time. The bonfire is still going strong, but I no longer feel like celebrating. It was just over a year ago now that I became an orphan. I thought my parents were doing their job protecting Valor and Rune – their Alpha and Alpha Heir. Now knowing that it was a scheme created by Valor to get me out of the way caused me to wonder just what else did I miss seeing growing up in Pine Moon.Luna Clairice was an amazing Luna, always striving for the good of the pack and I always wanted to be just like her. She was close to my mother and Asteria but never joined us for vacations. Now knowing that Valor kept her under lock and key makes me wonder if this was the fate Rune would have had if he hadn’t left.“Brynlee?” My office door opens and Quincy pokes his h

“That fucking bastard!” I snarl out, throwing my phone against the wall. Anger fills me as I think about how Devlyn, a trusted Warrior, betrayed me because the blood pact that I forced upon him was fulfilled. That snake used this opportunity to escape Pine Moon right from under my nose and I gave him the fucking opportunity to be able to do so.“Darling?” The door to my office opens and Tanya comes rushing inside, her concern for me clear for all to see. Her appearance settles me slightly as I look at the slight bump growing on her stomach and I know that I cannot let my rage take over and accidentally hurt her and the heir growing in her womb in the process. As angry as I am with that snake Devlyn, I cannot take my anger out on my pregnant-soon-to-be-mate.“I heard you snarling, are you okay?” She asks, coming to my side and pressing her hand to my cheek. I reach out, wrapping an arm around her waist, and pull Tanya towards me. I take a deep breath, breathing in Tanya’s scent, and fo

Watching as Gale, Jett, and Rune leave the guest house, I wonder just how in the world did I get lucky enough to find all of the people Alpha Valor is hunting for in one Pack. As far as we knew, Rune and Brynlee had been spotted leaving Onix Moon, now named Shadow Rose, after Alpha Viren was killed by the now Alpha Titus. From there, our men informed us that Brynlee and Rune took refuge in Crescent Phoenix as it is closest Pack to Shadow Rose.Imagine my shock when I climbed off the bus to find Asteria, Gale, Jett, Brynlee, Rune, and Caspian standing in the crowd of wolves as they welcomed the Rogues sent by the Council and the Crescent Phoenix Council Representative Alastor and his men to the Pack while we were shown to the guest house to get settled in by a few Warriors and Omegas. It wasn’t till the welcome dinner that I was told that Asteria is the mysterious Alpha Rose and her Beta – Beta Lilac – is Brynlee herself. It seems that there is more to why these two ladies kept their i

The guest house Dining Hall fills within five minutes of announcing our arrival and I am happy the guest house has air conditioning or else the room would have become stuffy with thirty-three wolves inside. Carolyn had only gathered the Rogues the Council brought as the Willow Bark wolves already had accommodations ready and waiting for them for after their initiation which will be taking place soon and Jett will be joining the Crescent Pheonix with the Willow Bark wolves and becoming the Pack’s Theta, the Third in command who will be working under Uncle Gale and me.I take a deep breath, trying to see if the familiar scent that has been bothering me since stepping into the guest house and smirk. It seems this wolf really is part of the group scent by the Council as their scent is stronger here. I know that they are in the room with us now but I cannot find them with so many scents from the other wolves mixing together that their scent blends in. It seems this mysterious wolf’s locati

Following Jett and Uncle Gale outside the Pack House – albeit against my will – I try my best to hold back the excitement inside me. Brynlee had called me her Mate and this means she is starting to trust me more and more each day. That the pain of the rejection is slowly fading from her heart and that means I am slowly winning her love once again. Being trained as a Beta is just a bonus to me as being with Brynlee has been my goal since I decided to leave Pine Moon.“So what are we doing first?” I ask as Gale leads Jett and me away from the Pack House and down a familiar path.“We are going to check in with our soon-to-be Pack Mates. Some have found their Mates within the Crescent Phoenix and we would like to see if they would like to move in with one another while we also plan where to put some of the single wolves.” Gale answers, looking back at me over his shoulder. My footsteps falter for a moment and I nearly trip over my own feet. This is something a Luna would do while -- figu

Watching the Hummer with the Council Logo drive off, I let out a sigh of relief. The interviews with all of the wolves who had experienced Valor’s and Jonnah’s destructive behavior had gone well albeit a few breakdowns and tears that caused us to pause the interviews for everyone to take a few deep breaths and compose themselves. Many wolves originally from Pine Moon and Willow Bark stepped forward, giving Alastor new insight into what life was like in both Packs and how they were terrified to even breathe the wrong way because of Viren.I was surprised to see three of Crescent Phoenix wolves come forward near the end, these wolves explaining that they had met both Valor and Jonnah on separate occasions and told their own experiences. With all that was gathered over the last six days, it is guaranteed that Jonnah, Valor, and Tanya will be facing their upcoming execution as soon as possible.“When will we get the news that they are dead?” Quincy asks as he stands beside me, his anger a

Sitting in my office, I watch from the side as our Council Representative – Alastor Levines – speaks with Milan Berhardt. Quincy is there, holding her hand as he silently supports her while Milan tells her side of events when Valor attacked Willow Bark. Her voice cracks with emotions and she has to take a moment to compose herself as Alastor passes a box of tissues to the she-wolf. This has been a trend with many of the wolves sine the interviews started two days ago.Four days ago, Alastor came with a few other council members, the group bringing along thirty new wolves who would be joining Crescent Phoenix next week. As usual, we had welcomed everyone to the Pack with a bonfire, the Crescent Phoenix wolves excited to welcome in these new members as it means we are growing stronger. We partied the night away and showed the guests to their rooms, deciding to put the six Council Wolves in the Pack House and the soon-to-be new members in the guest house where Milan and Quincy could keep

Watching the wolves line up in front of the Council Headquarters, I try my best to plug my nose. Everyone here is a Rogue waiting to board and take a seat on the buses the Council provided for us. We will all be leaving to join either Shadow Rose or Crescent Phoenix within the hour and part of me is excited for this change.I had been turned Rogue involuntarily three weeks ago from Pine Moon. Alpha Valor had needed someone who could infiltrate Crescent Phoenix when news of his son being part of this pack reached him. At first, I had thought of refusing this job, but the prospect of leaving Pine Moon for a bit and possibly finding my Mate won and I agreed to become a spy for my Alpha.I was forced to make a blood pact as soon as I turned Rogue so that Alpha Valor could continue to control me while I went to infiltrate Crescent Phoenix and report to Alpha Valor who the Alpha and Beta are as well as confirm if his son Rune is there. Once I have done that, the blood pact would dissolve an

Watching Brynlee in the corner of the training room talking with Odette as the two she-wolves work out, I find myself smiling and thinking about how this is how life should be. I spent years under my father’s grasp scared for the destruction of my Pack if I went against his wishes and nearly lost the best damn thing ever placed into my life because of this.“Need a sparing partner?” Jumping, I whirl around intending to punch the person that snuck up on me only to stop my fist from colliding with Quincy’s nose. The Head Warrior smiles at me sheepishly, neither flinching nor retaliating from my sudden attack.“Sorry, Quincy. I didn’t hit you, did I?” I mutter out awkwardly, lowering my fist as Milan slinks around me, amusement in her eyes while she walks towards my Mate and her friend.“It’s fine man. Besides, I think I deserve the beating with how I have treated you these last few weeks.” Quincy replies, shrugging as he leans against the wall beside us. We stand there awkwardly for a m

Stretching out under the willow tree with the wind flowing through my fur, I enjoy watching my Pack Mates coming and going from the Pack House while I wait for Rune. My work had only taken me about an hour and a half to complete and I decided to wait outside for my Mate after having lunch.“I thought you would wait for me in your office.” Lifting my head off my paws, I look to find Rune coming under the willow tree, looking at me in amusement. My tail slumps slowly on the grassy ground and I let out a yawn.[I ended up being done early and decided to enjoy the nice weather in my fur form.] I answer through the link, getting an eye roll from Rune.“I see. Let me go shift and I will be right back.” He sighs out, running a hand through his black hair. I nod, resting my head on my paws and closing my eyes. I have been tired lately, the tiredness being a mix of running around preparing to welcome new wolves with Asteria as well as worrying about my pregnancy, and relaxing under the leaves
