I call the little drone back to me with the handheld base, grinning as it lands in my hand like a bird and reattaching it to my belt. “Thank you!” I murmur to it. “I’m asking for one of you for my birthday.”

It really was incredibly useful to be able to send the little drone out ahead of me to scope

Nah. She’s got something up her sleeve. She read the Cadet Handbook the night before. I don’t think she’s being a spoiled rich kid at all…and no way are they throwing her out. She’s too damn smart and talented.

Didn’t see that coming! Honestly, this book (and its Surrogate predecessor) put the vast majority of the books on this site to shame. This is a phenomenal read!
