Chapter 5

She had been on his mind all day. now, in his study, she was still on his mind almost taking over his thoughts. alpha venkat could not get his pretty mate out of his head.

"apikai, find out about an omega called ro. i want to know everything she's done in the last twenty-four hours."

"is that your mate?" apikai asked. "yes, now get to work," he nodded then left.

"shouldn't you just tell her the truth?" leke voiced out.  "she's going to be heartbroken. besides, she'll never be free with me again if she knows i'm her alpha. our love is forbidden," venkat disagreed.

"you mean bond, not love," apikai distressed. "no, i mean love," venkat stood up.

"then tell mara."

"tell mara what?"

"that you have a mate so you can't be with her," leke aided with an answer. "i can't do that."

"why not?" his friends were genuinely confused. "you know how she is. she will go to the ends of the earth to find out who my mate is and i don't want to put ro in danger," venkat explained.

"how long are you going to do this?" leke sighed.

"can we not go there?" venkat was not in the mood to prove who was right or wrong right now.

"really venkat? how long are you going to avoid the subject? if you're not careful, you'll end up hurting both of them," leke chastised. "i'd rather die than hurt ro," venkat shook his head.

"at least we know you're dying soon," eun-jae said. leke snorted and venkat rolled his eyes.

"venny!"

a constipated look came across leke's face and eun-jae rubbed his temples. amara came into the room and before she could run into venkat's arms, the alpha hugged some large books to his chest. "venny, what are you doing?"

"oh just scaling through these books."

"put them down."

"oh you can sit on the chair, i just really need to know how much i have to read." amara huffed and sat down, giving venkat some papers.

"i had no idea we had so many omegas," she said. venkat quickly went through the papers looking for ro's name with the books still on his chest.

venkat was still thinking to himself and blocking out mara's voice when apikai came inside. "alpha, i have the report".

the delta handed him a paper. after reading the contents of the paper, venkat stood up abruptly in anger making all the books fall to the ground. "he's gonna pop a vein," eun-jae said.

"Venny?".

"Apikai, find that family. Fire the wife from the school and place the husband under six months suspension. Tell them you give them that as a warning and punishment, they will be kicked out of the pack the next time they raise their hands on her."

"Yes Alpha." Apikai left again after replying through the mindlink.

"Venny, let me see,” Amara stretched out her hand as Venkat sat down. He tore the paper instead and threw it in the waste bin.

"Leke, follow me to my room."

The top epsilon stood up and walked out with Leke trailing behind Venkat. From the corner of the Alpha's eyes, he could see Eun-Jae tailing them too. Mara also stood up and followed them. Venkat just knew she was going to be savaged but he kept shut. He and Leke then entered his room. Eun-Jae also stepped in and he slammed the door in Mara's face.

"Hey!" she yelled from the other side of the door.

Venkat dug into his drawers and brought out a small glass bottle, giving it to Leke. "I want you to give this to Ro," he whispered.

"Isn't that ointment one of a kind?" Eun-Jae whispered back. See, when Venkat was little, he got into a fight with some rogues. He was slashed across the face down to his jaw. His face was going to be permanently disfigured but Maame Efua applied the ointment on his face till there was no longer a scar. The old lady had told him the ointment was one of a kind and was given to her by a powerful witch on her death bed. "I know but i want Ro to have it. I want you to also share balms to the other lower omegas."

"When are you going to see her again?" Eun-Jae asked. "In four days. I miss her already."

"The bond is growing stronger," Leke gave a backhanded comment.

"You can go now. The earlier, the better. Don't let anybody know the gifts are from me", Venkat said in reply and the top epsilon nodded before hiding the bottle in his pocket and walking to the door. 

Eun-Jae followed him and waited for him to walk out. "What were you guys whispering about?" Mara asked when the door opened. As an answer, Eun-Jae slammed the door shut again.

"Hey!"

"Sorry Mara, i need to help Venkat shave!" he yelled back.

Venkat half glared and half frowned with an expression that said, Excuse me?.

"Ew, what?" Mara sounded disgusted. "Yeah, he's nursing a forest in his forest region."

Venkat slapped his forehead in annoyance and disappointment. "That's gross," Mara criticized.

"Yeah, It's very gross, he's got vines travelling up his–."

"Shut the fuck up," Venkat groaned.

"Oh hi, Ae-Chae", Mara greeted the petite girl that was now a second presence outside the door. "Hi Mella," Ae-Chae replied.

"It's Mara and i wouldn't advise you to go in there, they're–," just then, the door opened and the sixteen year old girl walked inside.

"Chief!" she screamed and jumped into Venkat's arms, the Alpha returning the hug with a smile.

"I don't know if she's my sister or yours," Eun-Jae said with a roll of eyes.

"Eun-Jae," she smiled at him.

Then she turned to Venkat and spoke, "I saw Bubba downstairs, where's Kuya?"

Ae-Chae had basically been adopted by her older brother's friends. Whilst she called her brother by his own name, she called Venkat the chief, Leke, her Bubba and Apikai, her Kuya. "Hey, you can't hug him like that," Mara said coming into the room.

"Why not?" Ae-Chae looked at her. "He's my mate," Amara retorted.

"No, he's mine," Eun-Jae snickered and Venkat just sighed. This petty fight had been going on ever since Ae-Chae was thirteen. She used to have a crush on Venkat but when she eventually got over it, she said she wouldn't let Chief fall into Mara's claws. The teenager took it upon her to try and protect Venkat until he found his mate. Ae-Chae had refused to talk to him for a week when she first found out he had slept with Mara.

The bittersweet enemity between the teen and the betrothed provided good comedic relief to Venkat. "Venny, talk to her," Mara whined.

Venkat turned to Ae-Chae and she stared at him, daring him to scold her in Mara's presence. He rolled his eyes. Teenagers were anything but respectful but blame Venkat for spoiling her. "You wanna go get ice-cream?" he asked.

"Sure."

"Yes."

The two females turned to glare at each other. "He was talking to me," they said simultaneously.

"Luna, someone needs your help," a guard who had been afraid of getting in between the fight suddenly spoke.

Oh, perfect timing, Venkat couldn't be more happier.

"Get someone else to do it," she answered back, not taking her eyes off him.

"You're the Luna, do your job. Chief, let's go," with that, Ae-Chae dragged Venkat away, leaving an annoyed Mara behind. Venkat gleamed.
