The rain pelted me. It was different for Craig. When the downpour ended, he was dry. I couldn't help but be in awe at how he was able to control the rain. It had probably fallen due to my sudden change in emotion. Still, I had no idea how to control it as he did. His clothes were waterless even though he was sitting beside me. I would say that was an achievement that made me somewhat jealous. I always knew Craig was powerful. He was the only merfolk no one could tell was not human.
Even now, he had no aura that radiated out of the ordinary. It was like he was not even one of us. It had to take a vast amount of control to be able to manipulate one's aura as he did. Craig could do cool tricks that not even Mom could not. When my powers were sealed away, he used to send jolts of energy to me to help me to duplicate his acts. Like in the winter, he would turn the mist at dawn into the snow. Once, he scanned through my memories and displayed them before my closed lids like onCraig left to go back home to where ever that was for him. He had to be there for something. He never stated what and I never questioned. I trusted him. He had his secrets and me asking questions would only root up the past he tried hard to bury. I couldn't do that to him. We had just gotten back on good terms. I didn't want to mess that up.Mitch followed suit. How Aqualia got him to leave was still a mystery. He was not pleased with the arrangement but made no complaints. It was weird. Once again, I said nothing. It was none of my business. I was just happy things were working out for them."Marvelon?"I glanced in the direction of the ajar door. Aqualia entered the room and closed the door behind her. For some odd reason, I kind of expected this. It was a little shocking when she had Mia clean up Alex and Sophie's room to sleep in it. I chalked it up as the deal with Mitch for him to allow her to stay here. However, Aqualia had been sleeping in my
The house became much quieter with Aqualia gone. It was hard seeing her off but we all had things to do. She was a Queen. It made no sense in hiding here with me. She had her people to think about as much as me. She was not making much fuss about her coronation which figured she was still on mental defense with the Antarcticans. I did hope everything worked out the way she wanted it.Craig was not back as yet. I have been spending more time training with my guards but it was not enough. They kept holding back. No one wanted to harm the King. I was getting nowhere with any of them. The only person that fought with me and didn't care was Martin. I figure he was upset with me but chose not to speak his mind. Again, it was because I was the King. It was an annoying title, but I had to live with it, if not for myself, for my people. It would have been nice if Mitch was here. I could have done a one-on-one battle. He seemed pretty tough. It would have been a blast an
This sucked!I couldn't put in a hit in a battle against Aquant. He just stood in the same place, toying with me. Not one hit. No matter how hard I tried, it was useless. Even when I used the wind to predict his movement, he ended up doing it faster and I kept landing on my ass. Pushing me to the ground could be considered laughable. However, one time, two times, for the entire morning was irritating. Aquant kept evading my moves. Every single one.If this was a real fight, I would have been dead already. I just didn't understand. With the old man, things were different. Yeah, so I always ran away but my skills should be better than this. One hit. That was all I needed.I pushed off the ground. This was it, Marvelon. I could do this. Gramps was far more experienced and vicious. If this was his show, I would have gotten beaten into a pulp right now. And, I spent the majority of my teenage years with that guy. I could hit Aquant. I just had
Things hadn't gotten easier with my training. The pep talk from Mia and Martin helped a little. But, just a little. The training with Torus was even more intense. I stayed on my feet for much longer with each battle. Trust me, it was not an accomplishment to be happy about.Torus's tactics were different from Aquant's. He didn't have the speed but he had so much more. He had the strength and powers to back him up. Thank God for Alex. If it was not for his training with me using those same powers, fighting with Torus would have been with me being a fish exploring land for the first time.Regardless of my efforts to fight back, I was beaten time and time again. Unlike Aquant's thrusts to the ground, Torus's attacks were much harsher. He fed me with kicks, slaps, punches, energy blasts, and my least favorite, time-outs. What were those? Well, it was when my body was held to the ground while a series of pain circulated my system. It was as painful as it sounded.
I went back to my room and thought about the conversation between Aquant and Torus. The actions in my past have scarred my reputation. Those males would never see me as their leader unless I made them. I had to do something. Our next training session had to go differently.I laid in bed, mewling over my next course of action. I could practice by myself and try to do something. It would be better than doing nothing. Still, I couldn't go outside to do it. It could not happen in here either.I stared at the ceiling, trying to come up with something. I had it! I could go to the ancestral world. It would be hard since no one was going to summon me, but I still had a few details on how that worked. If it was one thing the old man made me learn, it was how to travel there by will. I thought they would ban me after failing to be the King they wanted. I hoped they didn't. I needed that place right now.Okay, Marvelon, you got this.I relaxed in bed
Mia and I entered the kitchen to Craig sharing breakfast with Aquant, Torus, and Martin helping him. Without looking over his shoulder, Craig spoke. "Mia, come and help your brother distribute these breakfasts to the guards."Without complaining, Mia shifted right into the action. "Yes, sir."I didn't stop at the kitchen but passed everyone and headed for my room."Aren't you going to eat breakfast?" Craig called out after me."I'm taking a shower first?" I tossed over my shoulder without stopping. It was probably stupid to take a shower before we got into our training session but it would make me more comfortable and relaxed. I had to have a level head when facing those two mermen. I had a feeling things were going to be much harder than before. Craig did shoot an arrow at me when I was not looking. If it was not for that Queen mermaid, I would be a goner.I should be upset that he did such a thing. He was supposed t
"Today's training is going to be different," Craig announced when we were on the beach. "For us to move on, Marvelon needs to know what a true battle looks like. So, for our first session, we will show him what a true royalty defense looks like. I'm not a King but my powers are close. Aquant and Torus will attack me. I will defend myself."Torus and Aquant shared a glance. I was a bit surprised, Craig would get involved. It was strange that he would ask them both to spar with him. Everyone bragged about both mermen. He couldn't be serious about wanting to battle the two men.Craig laughed at the worried look on the men's faces. "Don't worry, I won't release all my powers. After all, this is just a practice match. Besides, you two should be able to take me."Torus scoffed. "We both know you are more powerful than a regular King." He grumbled something else under his breath.Craig lifted a brow. "Don't tell me you are scared."Aqu
Craig excluded me from training for the rest of the day. I was left to be the spectator for the matchup between Aquant and Torus. If they had a problem with the new arrangement, none said anything. They did whatever they were told.Even Craig showed a few of his skills when attacking the two. He claimed he was not giving his hundred percent yet he was able to take down both men with a few counterattacks. His level to theirs was far apart. Still, Torus and Aquant held their own for much longer than most people would have. The trick was they never struck an attack until they were certain it would hit. Before that, they evaded Craig. Even so, he managed to calculate their movement and struck accordingly. In the end, the two men lost. It was a beautiful sight. Craig mentioned I would be stronger than him once I got my true powers. I doubt that. He was too good. Half his powers brought destruction on two of the most powerful men in the ocean. I couldn't imagine what
