“LOVE, where are you?” Jarred asked through the phone call as Celene walked toward the jet bridge with her luggage in tow.
“I’m about to board the plane. My flight will be nine hours and I have a meeting scheduled as soon as I land. It might be best for me to stay at the hotel later and return home tomorrow.”
She wearily explained, exhausted from her hectic schedule. The never-ending meetings on this business trip left her with little time to rest and recharge, but at least she could catch up on some much-needed rest during the trip.
“You sound exhausted, are you okay? Should I pick you up at the airport?” Celene’s heart warmed at the sound of her husband’s sweet and gentle voice. It was a reassuring reminder that their relationship was back to normal and continuously improving.
“No, it’s alright. I’ll just catch a cab. I don’t want to interrupt your busy schedule trying to make up for the deal that fell through because of me.” she said, knowing how hard Jarred was working to land another international project, especially after their previous attempt with Nakamura Group failed.
“Don’t worry about it, it wasn’t because of you. Let’s move past it, okay? Anyway, just let me know when you’re about to land and I’ll come get you.” He insisted which caused Celene’s heart to flutter.
“Okay, I love you.” She smiled.
“Yeah, I love you, too,” He ended the call and Celene boarded the plane. Jarred then placed his phone on the table before turning to see Agnes who had just stood up from her seat on the couch and make her way towards his desk.
“Really? You love her?” She perched on the edge of the table, her tone dripping with jealousy as she crossed her legs in front of him. “Honestly, you’re a bad guy. You claim to love your wife but you continuously have sex with me behind her back.”
He chuckled at her remark.
“You’re just as bad as I am, and I already explained to you that I need to woo Celene because I need her help with the deal I was gearing up.” He loosened his necktie and leaned back on his swivel chair.
As he had promised Celene, he kicked Agnes out of their house and kept his distance from her at work. He even went above and beyond to regain his wife’s trust, and it was surprisingly effortless as expected. A small amount of affection and reassurance from him had made her forget all the hurtful words and actions he had done since Agnes came into the picture.
When Celene was away on a business trip to Dubai last week, he took the opportunity to continue his affair with Agnes. For the entire week that his wife was gone, he spent all of his free time with his mistress and felt no sense of guilt about it.
“You should leave now before someone tells Celene that you’ve been in my office for too long when you were only delivering a document,” he said as he ran his hand on her thigh and squeezed it. “We can’t let out our affair to the public now, can we?”
“All right, I guessed we won’t be able to spend time with each other again now that your wife’s coming back.” Agnes gave a bitter smile and stepped off the table to kiss him on the lips. “Just contact me when you need me to satisfy you, I’ll miss you.”
A seductive smirk danced across her lips as she walked out of the office, leaving Jarred unable to resist biting his lip while watching her sexy back. He was pleased with how Agnes was vying for his attention, and he knew that all he needed now was to secure a deal with the Laruente and he could finally leave Celene and marry his mistress.
“UGH!” Celene groaned as she patted her back, feeling every inch of her back was burning. In the end, Jarred had messaged her apologizing that he wouldn’t be able to pick her up due to an emergency at work. He had to pull an overtime shift, and she simply responded with understanding and let him know she was heading to the hotel where her business meeting was being held.
After arriving, she went to the reception desk to check in and changed her clothes in the room before heading to the rooftop where the luxurious restaurant was located. As soon as she walked in, her eyes landed on the general manager of the hotel, whom she was scheduled to meet with regarding their upcoming advertising campaign set to launch tomorrow.
The meeting dragged on, and even after it was over, she lingered at the restaurant while the hotel’s general manager had already left. She took a sip of her coffee and gazed at the beautiful view of the city at night, but her peaceful moment was cut short when she heard someone calling her name. Looking in front of her, her mouth parted in shock when she saw Noah, pulling the chair.
“W-what the hell? Why are you here?” she stammered, caught off guard when he showed up once again. It was not only the fourth time, but it was also quite late at night, making it hard to believe it was just a mere coincidence. “Are you a stalker or something?”
“A CEO of a big company like me couldn’t possibly be a stalker, could I?” he quipped in amusement. “Besides, where can you find a handsome stalker?”
“Well, there’s one in front of me.” Celene raised an eyebrow, prompting Noah to lean in closer and rest his arms on the table.
“Oh, so you found me handsome, huh?” He said with a self-satisfied air, causing Celene to stare at him in disbelief. She couldn’t believe how friendly he was being now, compared to his previously cold and guarded demeanor.
“Stop acting like a kid, why are you here?” She crossed her arms over her chest as she did not wish to waste any more time talking to him.
“I was staying at this hotel and caught sight of you while heading to the bar for a drink.” He explained as he recalled the report, he had received only an hour ago about Agnes visiting their house. His finger then drummed a rhythmic beat on the table as he hummed in thought. “How about you? It’s late, why aren’t you home?”
“I just had a meeting and I’m going to stay here for tonight,” Celene replied as she set the cup of coffee down on the table. “By the way, have you heard anything about my parents? How are they doing these days?”
She wasn’t supposed to be asking these questions, but when she realized that her father’s 60th birthday was getting closer, she couldn’t help but remember and missed them.
“You try to appear strong, but deep down you still care about them huh?” Noah’s smirk grew, pleased that she showed some longing emotion when it came to her parents instead of being completely indifferent.
“Obviously, since I was their only daughter.” She pursed her lips, still feeling the guilt of cutting ties with her family. It was a difficult decision, and there were times when she missed them terribly. But she knew that reaching out to them was not an option, no matter how strong the temptation. She couldn’t bear to face their disappointment and anger over her selfish actions, which had caused them to cut off contact with her for years.
“Forget it, I’m going back to my room. I’m too exhausted to continue this conversation.” She pushed her chair back and was about to leave but she felt a shiver down her spine when Noah’s large hand held her hand to stop her. The mere contact made her feel like there was an electricity running through her body, causing her to pull her hand back. “W-what?”
Noah looked down at his hand and felt a twinge of pain as he witnessed how repulsed Celene was by his touch. He closed his fist and met her gaze, determined to find a way to send her home so she could catch her husband in the act of cheating. After all, he had already discovered the immoral behavior of her husband for several days now by having someone follow him and his mistress around.
Yet rather than revealing this information, he decided to let her uncover it herself to avoid suspicion on how he knew about it.
“I heard your husband got into an accident on the way home,” he said, which caused Celene’s eyes to widen.
“What?”
“I don’t know the details, but I think he made it home, luckily.” Celene immediately panicked and didn’t even question the validity of his statement or how he knew about it. Her only concern was checking on Jarred, so she swiftly turned around and hurried back home.
Noah sighed, doubting his chances of winning Celene’s heart when she was clearly devoted to her shitty husband to the point where she never questioned anything and just rushed home to check on him.
As Celene sat in the cab, she tried to call Jarred multiple times but couldn’t get through. She immediately assumed that the reason he couldn’t pick her up at the airport earlier was not because of work but because he got into an accident. She was so worried that when she arrived home, she quickly dashed up the stairs. But when she saw a familiar suitcase outside their room, her heart started racing and her adrenaline spiked, sending nerves coursing through her body.
It didn’t take her long to figure out who it belonged to, especially after she heard Agnes’ moans of pleasure coming from their room.
“NNGHH~ Jarred, do me harder!”Celene’s entire body shook uncontrollably as she listened to the sound of those moans. Slowly, tears blurred her vision, and she struggled to remain standing, her heart breaking into a million tiny fragments with each passing moment. She was hurting, but above all, she was furious with herself for believing Jarred’s false claims of loyalty and faithfulness. The urge to rush inside and slap them, or better strangle them both to death overwhelmed her, but she took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down. She then wiped away the tears that threatened to fall and clenched her trembling hands together, wanting them to stop shaking. With a slow turn, she made her way out of the house, determined to leave the situation behind her. After enduring one too many acts of disrespect, she had finally reached her limit. She refused to allow herself to be treated poorly any longer and decided it was time to stop always trying to please others and being blinded by
“YOU MISSED ME?” Celene asked, her voice dead pan, completely ignoring the fact that he was holding her tight in his arms. She used to find his touch warm and comforting, but now it only brought disgust, since this was the same arm that held Agnes last night... on their bed.“Yeah, it’s been a whole week since we last saw each other after all,” he replied as he pulled back and cupped her cheeks. Celene forced a smile in return, not wanting to show her true emotions. “I’ve been calling you, but you weren’t answering.”“My phone was about to die from low battery. I forgot to charge since I feel asleep last night after the meeting.” she lied, struggling to keep her voice steady. She wanted to confront him about Agnes, to question his actions, but she knew from experience that he would become defensive and manipulate the situation like he always did when they argued. She was aware of his red flags, but her love for him clouded her judgment and turned a blind eye to them. However, she has
THE BATHROOM was filled with the sound of the shower running as Celene stood under the warm water. She couldn’t believe she was taking a bath in the house of the man who had rejected her, the same man she was supposed to marry before meeting Jarred. She closed her eyes and ran her fingers through her long brown hair, letting out a disbelief chuckle before turning off the water. She then grabbed the new towel and set of clothes Noah had given her earlier before she entered the bathroom. After drying herself off, she put on his undershirt, t-shirt, boxers, and pants, even though they were much too large for her due to their contrasting body types. Fortunately, the pants came with a string attached to the waistband that allowed her to adjust them to fit properly.Once she had put on the rest of the clothing, she stepped out of the bathroom and flinched when she heard Noah snorted. She furrowed her brow, studying him with narrowed eyes as he made his way downstairs after just finishing hi
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” Celene asked, her brows knitted together. Even though she was already aware of their affair, seeing it with her own eyes only fueled her anger even more. She imagined grabbing the vase nearby and smashing it against their faces, but she quickly dismissed the thought. She wouldn’t stoop to such violent measures, especially inside the company.“Before you jump to conclusions, let me explain first. She was merely trying to help me by blowing gently into my eye because something had stung it, and I couldn’t see clearly.” he quickly responded, his hands firmly holding onto her waist as he pulled her closer. Then, he turned to look at Agnes with a serious expression, “You’ve already delivered the report, you can go,”“Yes sir,” she replied, striding past them with a sneer on her face as she made eye contact with Celene.“You don’t suspect me of cheating, do you? I swear she was just—”“I know, you don’t have to be so defensive.” Celene smiled, but there was a hint of sa
“I MISSED AGNES,” Martha said out loud, causing Celene to suddenly stop eating the breakfast prepared by their maid. With a heavy sigh, she placed her fork down and slid her chair back before standing up, feeling completely fed up as she could never seem to catch a break.“I lost my appetite,” she said, glancing down at her mother-in-law who raised an eyebrow at her. Martha had noticed the significant shift in Celene’s behavior since she returned from her business trip, and she didn’t like it. It was especially frustrating when she didn’t cook breakfast for them like she used to do.“Sit down, don’t be disrespectful,” Martha warned as she motioned to her daughter-in-law with her hand. Celene snorted in response, causing her eyes to widen in shock and disbelief.“Did you just scof—”“You have no right calling me disrespectful when you disrespected me first. This wasn’t the first time it had happened, and I refused to allow you to continue mistreating me.” Celene spoke her mind without
“REALLY? Thank God! I was planning to hand in my resignation later today anyway.” Celene clapped once, her face brimming with excitement instead of looking depressed. Jarred and Agnes both furrowed their brows as they watched her strange behavior. After all, she was about to lose her job, yet she seemed strangely content about it.“I was going to be professional and make sure all of my work was organized before I left the company, but since you’ve already fired me, I’ll leave that task up to you and your mistress, okay?” Celene grabbed her bag and playfully tapped Jarred’s shoulder with a mocking smile on her lips, “Well then, good luck with running this company. Let’s see how long it can last.”She had been ready to walk away, but he grabbed her wrist and turned her to face him. She raised an eyebrow, not caring at all because she had made a promise to herself not to act desperate anymore. The woman she was now was the real Celene after all.“Stop touching me with your filthy hands,”
“WHAT in the world are you saying?” Celene blinked, trying to process what she had just heard. Surely, she must have misheard Noah’s words. There was no way he could have just asked her to marry him, not in this location and definitely not with everything going on in her life right now.“I asked you to marry me, but of course not immediately since you’re still legally tied to that scumbag,” His tone was matter of fact, earning another dumbfounded reaction from Celene.“Honestly, I have no idea what was going through your mind, but can you at least give me a break before dropping another bomb that would make my brain explode?” She groaned, running a hand through her messy curls, her heart beating faster for some reason. She then averted her gaze from him and instead focused on the window, “Where are you going to take me anyway?”“To your family’s home,” His response caused Celene to quickly turn her head towards him, her face displaying complete surprise. She had just asked for a break
THE WARM RAYS of sunlight streaming through the window stirred Celene from her sleep. She rubbed her eyes and sat up, slowly remembering that she had spent the night in the guest room of Noah’s penthouse. She had initially planned to stay at a hotel because she needed more time before facing her family again, but he insisted that she stay over at his place. At first, she declined the offer, but when he mentioned that he would go back to the company and wouldn’t return until much later, she changed her mind and accepted. Soon after dinner, she went to bed and couldn’t shake the thought of whether or not she had made the right decision by saying yes to Noah’s proposal. Her competitive nature had driven her to accept his offer, even though deep down she knew she might come to regret it in the future. But the thought of revenge consumed her mind, pushing all other thoughts aside. She was determined to make Jarred, Martha, and Agnes beg for her forgiveness, although she had no intention of
“Caius, come here.” Celene said, her voice a little wary as she looked at Jarred. His appearance might have changed since he grew a beard but she knew very well, it was her ex-husband.Celene’s heart was racing as she watched Jarred approaching her with Caius by his side. She couldn’t believe that after all these years, fate had brought them together again.“Give me my son, Jarred.” She frowned, fearing that he might do something to her son. However, to her surprise, Jarred urged Caius to come closer to his mother.“Mama!” He hugged her and Celene felt a sense of relief now that her son was in her arms.“Why did you leave the school?” she asked, brushing his hair away from his forehead. He didn’t seem to be hurt and that alone was enough to calm her racing heart.“I’m sorry, Mama. I saw a cotton candy outside and I wanted some. So, I followed it and…” Caius trailed off as he stared down at the ground, knowing what he did was wrong.“He almost got hit by a motorcycle..” Jarred’s interr
5 YEARS LATER...“Mhhhn, what are you doing?” Celene murmured, her eyes still shut as she felt Noah's lips making a trail of kisses down her shoulder. Gradually, she opened her eyes and turned towards him to see his face sporting a playful expression in the early morning light, “Why are you acting like this?”“I want to have a second baby,” he said as he kissed her neck, but then, their door suddenly burst open, causing him to quickly sit up with an innocent smile as their son Caius entered the room, as he did every morning.“Good morning, Mama and Papa!”With a cheerful grin on his face, he skipped over to the bed clutching his beloved dinosaur stuffed animal. He then happily crawled in between his parents and snuggled up close, giggling with joy.“Good morning, silly boy. We told you to knock before opening the door.” Celene playfully wiggled her nose, causing their four-year-old son to burst into a fit of giggles. Meanwhile, Noah’s face fell into a pout as he once again failed to b
“MOM, DAD.” Celene's eyes brightened when her parents visited her in the hospital, “Is it fine for you to be here? You should be resting.”“I already told him that, but he refused to listen to me.” Isabelle shook her head, determined to stay strong. But as she looked into her daughter’s eyes, tears began welling up her eyes. Seeing her in person after watching the news last night gave her a sense of relief that she was still alive.“I’m sorry for worrying you.” Celene’s lips tightened as she regretted putting her parents through unnecessary worry. She could only imagine how they must have felt when they saw the news.According to Noah, there was a frenzy of media attention outside the hospital last night. Thankfully, her cousin Ash was able to handle the situation and released a brief statement confirming that Salvatore’s CEO and Noah De Laruente’s wife were safe and in recovery.“What are you saying? Don’t apologize.” With a sniffle, Isabelle reached out and carefully embraced her da
SHOUTS AND GUNSHOTS echoed through the abandoned building, causing confusion and panic among Agnes and her ex-husband’s men. Celene’s heart started pounding harder, wondering if this was finally the police coming to save her. However, the noises were quickly followed by a loud explosion that shook the entire building. Dust and debris rained down on them as Celene felt herself being pulled away by one of the men.“Time to leave,” Agnes’ ex-husband shouted over the chaos, causing the gunmen to cut the rope on Celene’s feet and drag her along with him as they made their way out of the room.“No!” She yelled, her adrenaline making her struggle despite the weakness in her body. But her cries were drowned out by the chaos around her.As they emerged from the building, Celene saw that it was surrounded by a group of heavily armed police officers, there were also people from the media. She couldn’t believe her luck—she had finally been rescued. But her relief was short-lived as Agnes’ ex-husb
THE NOISE and pounding headache woke Celene up; she winced, trying to open her eyes, only to find that she was held captive; she was sitting on a wooden chair, her feet and wrists were tightly bound with ropes, digging into her skin and making it difficult for her to move.As her vision slowly cleared, she took in her surroundings and realized she was inside a large, abandoned construction building. There were a few gunmen around, some of them were playing cards, and some were talking while smoking.None of them had realized that she was already awake, and she couldn’t help but look at her belly, scared that she might miscarry if these men were to harm her. But what worried her the most was Noah; he was bleeding heavily after their car was hit earlier. Not only that but Martin was shot too before she lost consciousness earlier. The thought that something might happen to her added to her concern. However, her mind was immediately snapped back to the present when one of the gunmen appro
“W-WHAT?” Celene stumbled over her words, her eyes widening in shock as she struggled to comprehend what her mother had just said. She then gazed down at her belly, the idea of a tiny human growing inside her filling her with overwhelming joy and anticipation.“Did the scent of food make you feel sick? It was just like that for me when I was pregnant with you. Even though my favorite dish was right in front of me, I couldn’t stomach the smell.” Isabelle explained, “But just to make sure, you and Noah should visit the hospital.”“Hospital? Why?” Noah asked when he suddenly appeared as the two women exited the bathroom. His face was filled with concern as he looked at Celene, who seemed lost in thought. “Are you not feeling well? Last night you felt dizzy and now...”Noah’s sentence was cut short as he noticed the signs his wife was displaying and remembered his mother-in-law’s question about Celene’s possible pregnancy. As everything clicked into place, his heart began to race with rea
“WHAT TO DO? Our enemy’s bigger than we thought.” Celene couldn’t help but let out a sigh, finding it hard to believe that Agnes’ ex-husband was involved with the syndicate. The thought alone brought on more stress for her.“The police can handle it; I’m sure they’ll be able to find that woman regardless of who’s behind her,” Noah tried to reassure her, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that even the police wouldn’t be able to find her. It had been weeks, and yet, there was still no trace of her.“Should we just trick her to show up? I have a feeling she’s been watching my every moveShe’s just waiting to strike since I always have Martin on my side.” Celene suggested, “What if I make myself a bait so we can—”“No,” Noah frowned as he closed the book he was reading and placed it on the nightstand, his eyes focused on Celene who was leaning against the headboard of their bed with a look of concern on her face. “Let the police handle her, let’s just give them more time.”“It’s been wee
“IT’S REALLY HER,” Celene’s eyes were fixed on the screen of Noah’s laptop, her attention fully captured. Despite Agnes wearing the cafe’s uniform and a cap, her face was still easily identifiable. The security camera footage captured her adding a few drops of liquid from a small vial into the coffee while the barista was distracted, talking to the manager. As soon as she finished, the barista returned his attention to his task and placed the lid on the cup, completely unaware that Agnes had tampered with it.“That fucking bitch.” Celene clenched her jaw in frustration. She couldn’t believe how effortlessly Agnes could do such wicked deeds as if it was child’s play. She let out a deep sigh and took her phone, trying to call someone. “I’m just going to make the call.”Noah gave a small nod and followed her with his eyes as she made her way to the balcony. His hands then clenched into fists when he kept his focus on the CCTV footage again. It was baffling how that woman knew about his r
CELENE put the finishing touches on the table, making sure everything was perfect for their date at home. Snacks, drinks, and a movie were all carefully arranged. All that was left was for Noah to come down after showering. After ensuring that everything was in order, she settled onto the couch. But before she could get comfortable, the doorbell rang, causing Celene to stand and make her way to the door. She then looked at the intercom screen and noticed it was Noah’s secretary requesting entry. With a quick hum, she opened the door to let him in.“Good afternoon, Ma’am Celene.” He greeted her, and she responded warmly before inviting him into the house.“Are you here to bring Noah’s phone?” she asked.“Yes, Ma’am... Also to give him the copy of the CCTV footage at the cafe yesterday.” Celene’s finger twitched a little, and the frustration she had felt yesterday came back to her.“I see, have a seat first. Would you like a drink? Perhaps some snacks?” she asked, but the secretary poli
