Chapter 33

Alina's POV

Pain.

It pulsed through my body like a living thing, coiling around my limbs, sinking deep into my bones. I was aware of movement—of strong arms carrying me, of the rush of wind against my skin—but everything else was a blur.

I tried to open my eyes, but they felt too heavy. My body was drained, exhausted in a way that went beyond physical fatigue.

Something was wrong.

I could feel it in the pit of my stomach, a gnawing emptiness that hadn't been there before. My power—it wasn’t just weak. It was slipping away.

A voice, deep and steady, rumbled nearby. Damien.

“Stay with me, Alina.”

I wanted to tell him I was trying, that I wasn’t giving up, but my lips wouldn’t move. My mind kept pulling me downward, dragging me into darkness.

Then, another voice. Cold. Familiar.

Viktor.

My pulse spiked, a flicker of adrenaline cutting through the haze. I forced myself to listen, to focus.

“She doesn’t have much time,” Viktor was saying. His tone was fru

Chapter 34Damien's POV The silence was suffocating. Alina’s body lay still, her breathing shallow, her skin unnaturally pale. I gritted my teeth, forcing down the panic clawing at my chest. I had seen warriors fall in battle, had witnessed death countless times. But this—this was different. She couldn’t die. Not now. Not after everything. I turned to Viktor, who stood beside me, watching with that same unreadable expression he always wore. My hands clenched into fists. “Do something,” I growled. Viktor sighed, rubbing his temples as if my demand was an inconvenience. “I already told you. She has to let go of the power.” “She can’t.” “She won’t,” he corrected, his cold gaze settling on Alina’s unconscious form. “There’s a difference.” I was losing patience. “Then how do we make her?” Viktor’s lips pressed together before he finally said, “Someone has to go in.” I frowned. “Go in?” “Her mind,” Viktor clarified. “Right now, she’s trapped between holding on and

My fight with Lucas had left a permanent shift in my body, something I couldn’t yet explain. The energy inside me felt different—stronger, but unpredictable. Damien had been watching me more closely than ever, and I could tell he wasn’t just worried about me. He was wary. The courtyard was nearly empty, except for the distant figures of the night patrols. I took a deep breath, trying to ground myself, but the unease in my chest wouldn’t fade. A movement to my right caught my attention. Viktor. He emerged from the shadows, his eyes gleaming under the moonlight. “You shouldn’t be out here alone.” I crossed my arms. “I can handle myself.” “Maybe,” he said, stepping closer. “But after what happened in the challenge, the pack is watching you. Some see you as a rising force. Others see you as a threat.”

The pack was restless; I could feel it in the way they moved, the way they whispered among themselves when they thought I wasn’t looking. Ever since I defeated Lucas, their perception of me had shifted—but whether it was out of respect or fear, I wasn’t entirely sure yet.I barely had time to catch my breath before Damien stepped in front of me. His sharp gaze traveled over me like he was assessing every wound, every bruise I carried.“You’re late,” he said, his voice holding an edge of disapproval.I crossed my arms. “By how many minutes?”“Three.”I rolled my eyes. “You’re really counting?”He stepped closer, his towering frame forcing me to tilt my chin up to meet his eyes. “Every second counts in a fight, Alina. Every misstep can cost you your life.”I held his gaze, refusing to back down. “Then let’s stop wasting time and

Or did you think I’d let Lucas and the others walk all over me?”His jaw tightened. “You don’t need to prove anything to them. You’re my Luna.”I scoffed, crossing my arms. “And what does that mean if your pack doesn’t accept me? I need to stand on my own, Damien. I can’t just hide behind you forever.”He exhaled sharply, dragging a hand through his hair. “You’re reckless.”“I’m surviving.”His eyes softened just a fraction, but he didn’t argue. Instead, he turned his gaze toward the warriors who were still gathered, watching us with a mixture of curiosity and wariness. Lucas was gone,

I couldn't afford to let exhaustion take over. Not now. A soft knock on my door made me stop mid-step. "Come in," I called, straightening my posture. Damien stepped inside, his piercing gaze locking onto me immediately. He looked calm, too calm, but I knew him well enough by now to sense the underlying tension in his stance. "You’re overthinking," he said. I let out a sharp breath. "No, I’m preparing." He closed the distance between us in a few strides, stopping just a breath away. "You've done enough. Chapter 45 Alina's POV My heart slammed against my ribs like a drum. Lucas—gone. The words rang louder than any warning howl. I didn’t wait for anyone. I sprinted past Damien, past Fiona, down the gravel path leading toward the western watchtower. My injured leg screamed, but I pushed it down. I didn’t feel the pain. I couldn’t afford to. They took him. They took Lucas. The thought repeated over and over again in my mind, creating a noise I couldn’t shut off. Behind me, I heard Damien cursing and shouting orders to the warriors. The scent of blood and pine filled my nostrils, and even though my body was burning with exhaustion from the rogue fight, I didn’t slow. I reached the base of the watchtower and took the stairs two at a time. Talon met me halfway, his face pale. “Where is he?” I demanded. “He was guarding the western perimeter two hours ago,” Talon replied, stepping aside as Damien and Fiona caught up. “We had a rotation change. When the new guards arrived, Luc

Chapter 44Damien's POVThey came like shadows with teeth—at least fifteen rogues, maybe more, surrounding Alina and me from every side. Their movements were practiced, swift, and vicious. We were trapped. And Marlowe’s betrayal rang louder in my head than the howls that summoned this ambush.Alina was already moving, blades drawn, crouched low in a stance that told me she wasn’t going down without a fight. She looked like a ghost risen from war, ready to drag these bastards down with her.“I counted seventeen,” she said, voice low.“Eighteen. Two behind the birch tree,” I corrected, sword raised. “We go back to back. Do not separate.”“Wouldn’t dream of it.”The first rogue lunged without warning, claws slashing down toward Alina. She ducked, twisted, and drove her dagger into his thigh before slashing across his chest with her second blade. He screamed, stumbled, and was kicked away just in time for me to slash open the side of another rogue who thought he could sneak up behind her.

My entire body buzzed with an unfamiliar mix of dread and anticipation, like I was waiting for something big to crash through the door and change everything. But maybe that’s because something had already changed.Everything had shifted the moment Damien kissed me last night. It had started as a warning, a statement, a response to Lucas’s defiance in front of the council. But the second his lips touched mine, it turned into something else. Something raw. Fierce. Dangerous. And I didn’t know how to walk away from it.I clenched my fists. This wasn’t the time to let emotions blur my mission. I had revenge to take. I had names to burn from my past. His gaze held none of the soft amusement or subtle admiration it sometimes did. Today, he was all Alpha. Cold. Calculating. Pushing me to my absolute limits.“Again,” he barked.I lunged forward without hesitation, striking out with my left fist. He sidestepped with ease, catching my wrist and twisting until I dropped to one knee.“You’re still telegraphing your moves,” he said. “If I were anyone else, you’d be dead by now.”“Good thing you’re not,” I muttered, jerking out of his grip and forcing myself to stand. His eyes narrowed,
