Chapter 613 Something Seems Off

Author: Night Eleven
No, this man was probably Landon's previous incarnation.

He raised a brow, a knowing smirk playing on his lips. "Are you Mr. Carver Senior's granddaughter who has been studying overseas?"

Aria didn't give anything away. "Yes. I've heard of you."

The man's smile widened, his voice as smooth as the rustling forest winds. "This is our first meeting. When did you hear of me?"

"You're famous out there." Aria scanned the face of his partner. She adjusted her posture and added quietly, "I prefer the reincarnated version of you."

He'd tarnished himself now, something that Aria minded.

Suddenly, the chill, oppressive air dissipated considerably. Sonia realized the invisible weight crushing her chest had vanished, and she could finally breathe with ease. Though still weak, the suffocating pressure that had nearly taken her life was gone."I've driven the dark energy out of your body," Aria said. "But it's been lurking within you for half a year. It'll take time to eliminate its lingering traces."She removed the silver needles from Sonia's body, then picked up a bowl of herbal tonic. "I made you some rejuvenating tonic. It might smell strong, but it isn't bitter. It'll restore your inner energy and purge the remaining dark energy."Although the worst of the evil energy was gone, it had been inside Sonia for too long. Completely eradicating it would be impossible.Sonia slowly sat upright. Her body felt lighter, and there was life in her eyes again. Her voice was thick with emotion as she expressed her gratitude. "Ms. Carver, no words can express how grateful I a

A trace of panic flashed in Hedeon's eyes, but it was quickly replaced by anger. "Sonia, how could you believe a stranger's nonsense? I sacrificed so much for you just so you could rest and focus on your recovery. Do you know how hard I worked to keep the company afloat?"I cooked for you, stayed by your side every day. Is everything I've done worth less than a stranger's words?"His voice carried grievance and pain, as if he had truly been betrayed by the person closest to him.Hedeon continued, "When you founded Yost Group, who worked overtime with you? Who sourced clients for you? Who did all of that because you said growing Yost Group was your dream?"When your health deteriorated, I turned down all non-essential business meetings and stayed home to make soup and care for you. And this is what I get in return?"His barrage of questions only confused Sonia further. She saw the "pain" in his eyes, yet she couldn't forget the fragmented memories Aria had helped her uncover. It was a call from an unknown Janovin number. Aria frowned. Only a handful of people had her phone number.Still, she answered. "Hello?"Sonia's voice came through the speaker."Hello," she said softly, sounding lost. "May I know who's speaking? I found a business card and called the number because it felt familiar."Aria's frown deepened at both the voice and the words. "It's Aria Carver. Ms. Yost, don't you remember me?""Aria Carver?" Sonia murmured, stunned. "You know me? I… I don't remember who you are."Sonia's health had rapidly declined over the past few days. She suffered increasingly frequent spells of dizziness and ringing in her ears, but the most terrifying part was her fading memory.Sometimes she forgot what she was doing a second ago. Sometimes she even called Hedeon by the wrong name. What frightened her most was the coughing fits—so violent at times that she coughed up blood.Whenever she mentioned it, Hedeon would brush it off as nothing serious, buy her som

"She's the leader of the Special Missions Unit?" Abner asked, his fingers trembling. "That's impossible! You can't be part of the Special Missions Unit! That's a top-level organization. Why would you be here at the City Planning Department?"Aria grinned, her tone calm and relaxed. "Honestly, I wouldn't have paid any attention to your department if not for the demolition and relocation project at Clearwater Alley."Lucas' gaze darkened. Pulling out his phone, he immediately dialed the Department of Justice."Hello? It's me, Lucas Murray. Abner Worsley and Juan Hackworth from the City Planning Department are suspected of serious misconduct, and we have evidence to support it. Please send someone over to handle this."The conference room fell silent. Juan slumped into his chair, his face drained of color. Abner clutched his head, his body trembling as he murmured to himself, consumed by regret and despair. Aria remained where she stood. Both men held powerful positions in the City

Lucas' voice was low and deep. "Let's take this upstairs, then.""This way, please," Abner said.He stepped aside and motioned for Lucas, Aria, and Landon to head upstairs. Then, he signaled to Francisco to help Juan to his feet and bring him up as well. After all, this matter would affect not only the City Planning Department's reputation but also the credibility of government officials. If things escalated, no one would trust the government anymore. Before Lucas came here, Aria had already filled him in on most of what had happened. He understood the severity of the situation. If the entire City Planning Department were corrupt, he would have to remove everyone involved and issue an official statement to inform the public. He couldn't let people lose faith.Abner cast a hurried look at the staff behind him. "What are you waiting for? Get some tea for Mr. Murray and his friends."The group walked through the lobby and entered the elevator. The air inside was thick with tension

Landon smiled calmly. "Great. I can taste your cooking again."Moments later, everyone dispersed, leaving only Aria, Landon, and Georgina in the yard."Grandma, let's head inside," Aria said, helping Georgina to her feet. "I'll prepare a meal for you."Aria helped Georgina to her seat before looking at Landon. "Keep Grandma company. I'm gonna head to the kitchen now."He looked up at her. "Do you need my help?""No, I can handle it," Aria responded. She grabbed an apron, picked some vegetables, and headed into the kitchen. Landon watched her every movement, a hint of amusement flashing in his eyes."Don," Georgina called quietly."Yes, Georgina," Landon answered, completely at ease as he gave her a sidelong glance.Georgina looked up at him. "I know you and Aria love each other, and I'm very happy for you both. I know Aria well enough. Although she has a rebellious spirit, she has a kind heart. It makes me feel at ease that you're always with her."Landon responded calmly, "G
