Chapter 142 Karen Is Regretful

Author: Night Eleven
Jenna attempted to defuse the tension. "Look at the new fund I invested in. It hasn't been performing well at all. Didn't Grand Construction Corp. mention investing in pharmaceuticals? Why haven't they yet? Is Mr. Ingerton going back on his words?"

"You met Mr. Ingerton? Did he disclose anything to you?" Karen perked up, getting back to the main topic at hand.

Sophia laughed. "Do you think everyone has access to him? Even your husband might not get an opportunity."

Karen scoffed. "We are supposed to collaborate with Grand Construction Corp. Besides, Mr. Ingerton's secretary, Reagan, is good friends with my husband. Meeting him wouldn't be difficult!"

Sophia brushed off Karen's bragging, knowing she was merely trying to impress the others.

Karen was about to retort when she noticed Sophia's disbelief.

Suddenly, Jenna shouted after scrolling on her phone. "Heartbound Hall! Oh my! Mrs. Kent, look. Isn't this Heartbound Hall? It's located at Clearwater Alley, so it should be."

Despite not contributing financially, Karen decided she should take control of the stream. This newfound determination propelled her to stand up, abruptly ending her massage.Just then, Marshall called, urging her to return home immediately.Marshall, still in disbelief, recounted his day's events to Karen. Karen clenched her jaw, a surge of hatred bubbling within her. "When Aria left, I should have disfigured her face!"Marshall frowned. "I told you this to encourage you to mend fences with Georgina. A happy Georgina is more likely to speak favorably of us to Aria."Disgust contorted Karen's face. "She has no standards, does she? Seducing old men for gifts? No wonder she receives so much. It must all be from Mr. Ingerton." This explanation seemed more plausible to Karen. Otherwise, she might have been forced to acknowledge Aria's ability to win people over with her medical skills.Marshall got impatient. "Enough. Now's not the time to talk about this. Are you going to Georgin

"Of course, I didn't say a word! Didn't you instruct me not to divulge anything about you two when you left?" The middle-aged woman scanned the hillside cautiously.Lily narrowed her eyes. "What if they gave you money to tell them?""I'll take the money, but I'll feed them false information. There are folks who paid me to keep her from being found, after all." A sly grin spread across the woman's face.Lily breathed a sigh of relief. "That's right, Mom."The middle-aged woman was Olivia Phildez, who had mistakenly taken the wrong child years ago.Tears welled up in Olivia's eyes. It had been a while since she heard Lily call her "Mom.""Lily, your father and I have followed your instructions to the letter. You said admitting the truth would land us in jail. It's your quick thinking that's kept us safe."Having secured the information she needed, Lily felt a pang of impatience. "Good. Mom, we still need to be cautious. Once everything settles, I'll bring you and Dad to the city."

Marshall turned to look behind Aria instinctively. However, Harry wasn't there.Aria smiled nonchalantly. "Are you looking for someone?"Marshall plastered a smile on his face. "Aria, we have some misunderstanding between us."Aria grinned. "What misunderstanding? Are you talking about the time when you almost killed me or when you forced me back to the countryside?"Upon hearing that, a discussion sparked around them. "How could you do that as her parents? What kind of parents are they?"Karen couldn't tolerate the nosy neighbors and shouted, "She's not my daughter! What do you want us to do? Why should we tolerate her? She's like a piece of chewing gum; we can't get rid of her no matter what we do!"Marshall anticipated Karen's impending outburst and hastily pulled her back. "Stop talking!"With a silent gesture, he reminded her of their purpose for being there.Yet, Karen couldn't resist the intrusive thought. "Not only is she flunking her studies, but now she's even luring

Aria didn't hold back on Marshall. He crumpled to the ground, convulsing and spitting blood. Karen, her face drained of color, watched in mute terror.Rage contorted Aria's features as she yanked Marshall up. "I never wanted to resort to this in front of Grandma," she growled, her voice laced with venom. "But you truly had it coming."Marshall whimpered, his gaze darting to Georgina. "Mom, do something!""So now she's your mother? You didn't seem to care when you kicked her out!" Aria's voice crackled with rage as she forced Marshall to meet her gaze. With a swift kick, she sent him sprawling once more, the force of it leaving bystanders trembling in fear.Aria had long suppressed her true nature, playing the role of the obedient granddaughter beside Georgina. But now, her wrath was unleashed, revealing a darker side that sent shivers down spines.Meanwhile, Sam, who was following Harry downstairs in the commercial building, suddenly stopped. Before Harry could question him, Sam'

Karen had plenty of ways to ruin Aria's reputation online.Landon's gaze shifted deliberately toward Solo, signaling his intent. As an elite bodyguard, Solo grasped Landon's unspoken directive. He began to move in Karen's direction. However, Aria intercepted him with a smile. "Grandma said to let them go."Solo hesitated, his head tilting in question. "Follow what she said, then." Landon's voice was calm. It was as if he was talking about something normal.Barry watched in astonishment, perplexed by Landon's unexpected compliance. He couldn't help but wonder about Aria's true identity.Aria, nonchalantly chewing gum, spoke with casual confidence. "Everyone deserves a chance to start anew. I happen to be quite forgiving.""Really?" Landon raised his eyebrows, fiddling with his rosary bracelet. It was obvious he didn't believe her words.Of course, Aria wasn't being entirely truthful. If Solo were to tail Karen, her plans would be thwarted. She knew that for someone like Karen,

"Yes, I've agreed." Aria was calm, not thinking too much of his question.Landon's brow furrowed. She'd shut him down flat when he offered his own investment. Yet, Harry's proposal garnered immediate acceptance.Landon smiled and leaned closer to her. The crisp scent mingled with the smell of medicine wafted into her nostrils. Perhaps it was because the weather was starting to turn chilly; his body temperature seemed cold. "Why didn't you choose me?"Aria looked up at him. Although her gaze seemed confused, she gave a reasonable explanation. "Grand Construction Corp. happens to want to invest in the pharmaceutical industry for their next project. After discussing, everything aligns well. Besides, most of the Carver family's businesses are located overseas, so traditional medicine isn't their forte."Though her explanation sounded plausible, Landon's smile deepened. However, it was devoid of any warmth. He fiddled with his rosary bracelet, seemingly lost in thought. "You're right.

If Landon seemed indifferent before, he now had a hint of a smile on his face."Nope." The usual aloof-looking Landon didn't seem to look that intimidating now. "Barry, pay up."Barry nodded and quickly took out his credit card."Remember to pay more." Although Landon's voice was calm, it didn't mask the fact that he seemed to be the one in control.Aria glanced at him and back to the obedient Barry. "Are you two even friends?"Landon didn't hide it from her. "He's a colleague from another branch.""Yes. We're colleagues." Barry straightened his posture.Aria didn't think much of it. "I don't take credit cards, but you can pay to my account here."Barry glanced slightly to his right. "How much should I pay?""You're going to ask for your friend's opinion on how much you should pay?" Aria grinned teasingly.Barry immediately transferred 100,000 over. To him, this shouldn't be too much or too little. He had considered this amount carefully, ensuring it fell within the range of

The voice in Aria's ear was like fine wine sliding down Aria's throat, leaving her slightly intoxicated.Landon's touch was unlike anyone else, emanating a scorching heat.Aria couldn't see his face from her position. However, she could feel his breath on the nape of her neck, sending shivers down her spine. He didn't smoke, so there was no scent of tobacco on him. Perhaps it was due to his long-term medication use; the smell of sandalwood on him was oddly captivating.Though she was accustomed to the smell of medicine, she still considered his scent enticing. His hand was still clasped with hers. When he leaned down slightly, it was impossible to ignore his presence. After all, he was practically right in front of her. Aria's heart felt like it had been stung. She suddenly felt a pang of sensation that was both unfamiliar and familiar to her. It was difficult for her to put her finger on it.Aria raised her eyebrows and was about to push him away. However, he let go of her ha

Yet now, he was scrambling just to save himself. The Fitzroy family's underhanded tactics had been thoroughly exposed, with the internet tearing apart their every move. While the previous three generations of Fitzroys had been capable leaders, everything changed once Magdalene took over. Their successors had become mere opportunists, riding the coattails of others rather than proving their worth.Even within the company, employees had no idea what Dorian's actual skills were. Aside from exploiting his connections and bribing officials, he was utterly useless. Now, overwhelmed and powerless, he refused to even leave his office. When his secretary knocked, he stayed silent, praying for Magdalene to rescue him.Meanwhile, the prestigious families who had hoped to use the Fitzroys to el

"How did the video get leaked out? Did Eamon know about this beforehand and prepared for it? All you know is to cry! If I can't secure the Grisham family's shares, you'll soon be worthless!" Magdalene's voice was sharp, sending a chill down Laura's spine. The words cut deep, leaving her eyes brimming with resentment. But Magdalene had no patience for her daughter's emotions. "Who released this video? Why hold onto it for so many years? Did Eamon do this to take you down? Does he not care about Jett at all?"Laura didn't have the answers. All she felt was a deep, throbbing pain. Her phone buzzed nonstop—messages from high-society women, all pretending to be concerned but prying for gossip. Their insincere probing only intensified her hatred for whoever had exposed the truth."Mom, what's the point of yelling at me? I had no idea an old video like this would resurface. Before Jett was born, Eamon did..." She trailed off, her mind suddenly dragging her back to a buried memory. It was

Magdalene had never encountered such humiliation before. Gripping the chair for support, she trembled with fury, her face dark and rigid. The anger surged within her, rendering her speechless—only her heavy breaths betrayed the storm raging inside. People had always feared her. With her status, no one dared to raise their voice at her, much less hurl insults. In the past, when others struggled to survive, she stood above them, indifferent and untouchable.Raised in an elite family, Magdalene had long believed in class superiority. To her, the so-called common folk had no right to challenge her, let alone condemn her.Yet now, they all turned against her. Their scorn was relentless. They called her a vile, greedy old woman who leeched off her daughter's success. Some even accused her of being capable of far worse than drugging someone. Her expression darkened as she read their words. Taking a deep breath to suppress her growing panic, she swiftly contacted Neval."Board the plane

Laura's piercing scream echoed through the room, shattering any illusion of the gentle, refined woman from a prestigious family. She had been the picture of grace in the Grisham family—a well-mannered and elegant wife, admired by high society. Everyone envied her seemingly perfect marriage. But Laura had never stopped to consider that it was all because of Eamon. It was his status, his wealth, his name that allowed her to hold her head high among the elite. Now that everything was slipping from her grasp, she lost all composure. Gone was the elegant, dignified image—replaced by a woman consumed by rage and desperation. She grabbed whatever was within reach and smashed it to the floor. The housekeepers kept their distance, unwilling to risk stepping inside. The lawyer, however, had no such luxury. He sighed, maintaining his professional tone. "Ms. Fitzroy, obtaining shares is practically impossible at this point. Public sentiment is overwhelmingly against you. I strongly advise se

Laura went pale after hearing that. She shot up from the couch, unable to contain her anger. "Who's saying my marriage had ulterior motives? Who can prove it? If Eamon hadn't wanted to marry me, how could I have given birth to Jett?"The most disgraceful thing Laura had ever done was to use underhanded tactics to secure her marriage. She still remembered the cold indifference in Eamon's eyes when he woke up that morning. The way he had ordered her out of the room as if her presence alone disgusted him. It wasn't until Jett was born that his attitude started to change. But that didn't mean anything. She refused to believe his affection over the years had been fake. No one had proof, so why should the narrative suddenly change now?The lawyer looked at her solemnly. "Ms. Fitzroy, perhaps you should see the video circulating online. It's an old recording. The quality isn't great, but it clearly captures what happened back then.""Video? What kind of video?"Laura's hands were shakin

For some reason, they suddenly lost all interest in Lily. It wasn't as if they couldn't afford their meals, so there was no need to flatter her anymore. The group glanced at Atticus, whose mind was in turmoil. How he wished Lily was right—at least, he could justify his own judgment. But the truth was far from that. All he felt was mounting embarrassment. "I'm not going." Bastian was the first to speak, followed by several others. It was telling how unpopular Lily had become—so much so that even a free meal couldn't entice them. Lily had never experienced such disdain before. After all, she was used to being the center of attention, yet now, even these so-called village bumpkins were looking down on her!"I get it now. You all just flock to the rich and trample on the poor. Now that Aria is more capable, you want to butter her up—just like you did with me before," Lily sneered. But no one was willing to entertain her mockery. They were young men with their own pride.Bastian sc

One of the male students couldn't contain his curiosity, so he asked a bystander, "Why is everyone treating that woman with such respect?" "Don't you all recognize her?" The onlooker seemed shocked. "She now holds more liquid assets than anyone in Ludwiten. That land she acquired recently is valued in the billions—and that doesn't even account for her other ventures." Atticus felt his heart sink even further after hearing those words. The other male students all seemed dumbfounded and frustrated as well. Anyone watching could see the regret written all over their faces. But what could they do now? Being told off was embarrassing enough, so they definitely were not going to stick around. After walking a short distance, someone couldn't help muttering, "Do you think Aria really has that kind of money? They said she has billions of dollars." Nobody answered. They had all seen how people reacted, and making excuses now would just make them look dumb. "Lily, since you're in Ludw

Lily stood nearby, her body stiffening as she listened to what Aria had just said. She had seen similar headlines before but never paid them any mind. She thought that no matter how great the spending power of everyday shoppers could be, they could not possibly compete with corporate capital. After all, companies could drop tens of millions on stocks without blinking. She had never thought much about the power of ordinary shoppers. But now, she was being told she had lost because of them—the very people she had dismissed as insignificant! Lily couldn't accept it. She was a reborn, so technically speaking, she should have been blessed with great luck. But why did Aria keep winning against her? Her hatred burned as she glared at Aria, frustrated that no one would listen to her. This version of Aria was nothing like the one she remembered. Lily remembered how after being brought back to the Carver family, Aria had been treated worse than she ever was with the Kents. Everyone in

The students from Southbury had no clue what Jonah was talking about, but locals in Ludwiten knew. On that same day, gold prices had surged by nearly 40 points per share at the stock exchange. Gold stores across the city were hiking up prices too. Out of everyone at the stock exchange, Aria held the majority of the gold shares. It could only mean that she had made an unimaginable fortune. Not to mention, the land she owned had just been confirmed for development—soon to become the largest economic zone in years. Instantly, every member in the café wanted to approach and talk to her. Lily and the group of male students were then shoved aside. "Ms. Carver! What a surprise running into you here!" A well-dressed middle-aged man stepped out of a luxury car. His tailored suit showed how wealthy he was, yet here he was, fawning over Aria and being so friendly with her. Compared to Aria, Lily seemed like a total joke after being caught mooching off someone else's membership. Atticus
