6. Be My Bodyguard

"Who is Cayden?" The handsome guy raised an eyebrow.

Emily spontaneously released her grip. Disappointment appeared on her face.

"So you're not Cayden?" she asked faintly.

The man frowned. He looked uncomfortable with Emily's gaze. After a blink, he held out his left hand.

"Prince. Prince Evans. I think this is a more appropriate way to get acquainted."

Emily didn't shake his hand. She lowered her gaze, sighing heavily. One of her hands rose to clutch her head.

"What did I expect? How could this guy be Cayden?" she laughed bitterly.

Before Emily had time to deal with her feelings, Prince snatched the phone from her grasp.

"Hey!" Emily pulled on his leather jacket. She tried to get her phone back. Unfortunately, Prince already raised his arm.

"What's your brother's name? Louis?"

"What do you want? Don't mess around!" Emily jumped, but not high enough.

"I want to call him. He should pick you up immediately," Prince said as he looked up at the screen.

"But I don't want to go home yet!"

"Then let him send a bodyguard for you."

Emily grimaced in annoyance. "I don't need bodyguards! They will only thwart my mission, and they will always report to Louis."

Suddenly, Prince straightened his head. His eyes narrowed at Emily.

"Then what do you want? Let the criminal harm you? Aren't you afraid that your body come home without a soul?"

Emily stopped jumping. Still panting for breath, she met Prince's sharp gaze.

"You're not Louis' bodyguard or Cayden. You don't even know me. But why do you like to interfere in my business so much?"

"That's because I care about you," Prince said firmly. Emily blinked at the depth of his voice.

"You think I don't know how scared you were when the stalker chased you? You looked so desperate, running in the rain. You couldn't even speak when I stopped you," Prince whispered with a sad look.

While Emily closed her mouth, he stepped forward. His speech continued.

"Then this morning, when the attacker drew his knife, you thought I didn't get to see your face? You were scared! What mission were you working on that made you dare take such a big risk?"

Emily remained still. She was glued to the brown eyes in front of her. She could see the anger and sincerity there.

"If you're afraid of me getting hurt, why don't you just be my bodyguard?"

Prince blinked. He didn't expect that question to come. "What did you say?"

"You're worried about my safety if I travel alone without any protection. Then, why don't you be the one to look after me?"

Prince blinked stiffly. "I'm not a bodyguard."

"But you are capable of being a bodyguard. You have saved me twice. Your abilities can not be doubted. You also care about me."

Prince snorted faintly. Before he could speak, Emily interrupted, "I can pay you anything."

"You said you didn't want to trust anyone. You even ran away from me. Now you're asking me to be your bodyguard?"

Emily shrugged. "I have no other choice. I still have to continue my journey, and I don't want Louis' bodyguards following me. You are the only choice. So, what will you say?"

Prince lowered his hand. Standing up straight, he looked at Emily with deep consideration.

"I can pay you anything," Emily whispered, reassuringly.

"It's not about money, Miss."

"You don't want me to pay with money?" Emily stared wide eyed. Confusion was clearly engraved on her beautiful face.

"Then what do you want me to pay with?" Her tone was now a little suspicious.

"I don't know. I haven't even agreed yet. Why are you already talking about payment?"

Emily was stunned to see his casual attitude. "You have been forcing me to go home or contact my brother since earlier. You sound very worried about my safety. Now, I offer you the honor of being my bodyguard. On what basis do you dare to refuse? Do you have the heart to let me travel alone?"

Prince fell silent for a moment. "You're forcing me to be your bodyguard?"

"You're my only option. Otherwise," Emily snatched her phone back, "don't make a fuss because I chose to travel alone."

"Then, let me keep a few portraits of you. That's all the payment I need," Prince said unexpectedly.

Emily was stunned to hear that. "What did you say? You want to keep my photograph? For what?" Her eyebrows knitted together.

"I'm a photographer. During my time as a bodyguard, I'll lost a lot of time taking photos. If you want to be the object of my photo, I won't refuse your offer."

Emily's eyes narrowed. "The photo you mean is a photo of me during the journey, right?"

Prince nodded. "What other photos could I take?"

Emily quickly pushed the dirty thoughts out of her brain. "Okay, that's not a problem. If your work is good, you will also get a bonus. But before that, there is one condition you have to agree to from me."

Prince's head was pushed back. "You were the one who proposed to me. I should have been the one who put forward the conditions, but why did you do it instead?"

"This is not just any condition. I made it for our mutual comfort."

Prince pondered for a moment. "What is the condition?"

"You can't fall in love with me," Emily said firmly.

Prince's eyes suddenly widened, his breath hitched.

"Wait a minute. Did I hear you right? You're forbidding me from falling in love with you? What kind of rule is that?"

Emily flipped the hair that fell over her shoulders. "Do you know how many men are crazy about me out there? I don't want you to end up miserable like them. I already have someone in my heart. I can't accept you. So, instead of having your heart broken, wouldn't it be better if we took preventive action? I want you to remain professional."

"You're very confident, apparently? What if it turns out you're the one who falls in love with me?"

Emily snorted slightly. "That's impossible. As I said, I already have someone in my heart and his position is irreplaceable. You can never replace him."

The corner of Prince's lips lifted higher. "Is that so? Who is that person? Is it Brandon? But you just rejected his proposal. Then, is it Cayden?"

Hearing that guess, Emily froze. She wasn't sure about the right expression to show. However, seeing Prince waiting for her response, she quickly raised an eyebrow. "How do you know?"

"Your eyes lit up when you said his name." Prince shrugged his shoulders. "So, what kind of person is he? Is his charm more enchanting than mine?"

Emily widened her eyes to the maximum. She never thought that she would met a man who had the same level of confidence as Louis. Unfortunately, she couldn't argue. She herself didn't know what Cayden looked like.

"Miss Harper?" Prince waved his bandaged hand.

Emily blinked. "Of course he is much more charming than you," she said firmly.

Prince smiled wryly. "Really? How did you know? You two must have never met. You even thought I was him. Now I'm getting more curious. Who is Cayden Evans? I've never heard or read his name in any media. Is he also a businessman?"

Emily's breath rumbled with mixed feelings in her heart. "Don't ask too many questions. It has nothing to do with you. Now back to the topic. Do you agree to that condition or not?"

Prince hissed while tilting his head. "I will agree, as long as ...."

"As long as what? You also want to put forward conditions?"

Prince smiled mysteriously.
