Chapter 19: A Stalker

Lavinia was dragged to a blind spot where the light was scarce. The man let her go abruptly, but she held onto the wall, her nails leaving red marks in the paint. The air was damp and heavy, carrying a metallic smell that made her shiver.

"How long are you going to keep bothering me?" he asked, his voice low and hoarse echoing in the hallway.

"Until you understand that I won’t give in!" she asserted, her voice firm despite the fear consuming her. She pushed him with all her strength, but he grabbed her by the neck, pressing his forehead aggressively against hers. His eyes, dark and piercing, stared at her with a hatred that seemed to grow every day, as if she were the cause of all his problems.

"Have you forgotten our last fight? You don’t have the upper hand," he commented, his voice threatening.

"I might not have the physical advantage, but you can be sure that as long as you keep intimidating me, I won’t let you get anywhere!" she shouted, her voice faltering.

Chapter 20: Updated LieLavínia stared at Zara alertly as she became frantic, her eyes darting around the room."Well... I’m leaving," Zara mumbled. "Feel free to talk, I hope this issue gets resolved, and you can get back to work." She said, grabbing Samuel's arm and dragging him away from the chaos."Why do they think he’s the father of the child she lost?" Samuel asked."Her parents saw him with Lavínia twice," Zara informed him as she continued to drag Samuel.Zen, for his part, was still standing near the door, watching Lavínia’s parents who were now sizing him up as if they were preparing to evaluate him. All he could do was stare at Lavínia with questions in his eyes but without the chance to ask them."How did you two meet?" Lavínia’s mother started the conversation, but Zen looked at Lavínia, waiting for her to say something."So, you’re together, right?" her father asked next, stepping closer to Zen. "Hello, young man, my name is Fausto, I’m Lavínia’s father and also a lawye

Chapter 21: Zen Quits the JobLavínia stared at him, intrigued. The dim light of the library highlighted the shadows on his face as she tried to decipher the young man's intentions."Do you think Mrs. Bayer is disturbed, by any chance?" he asked, his voice laden with indignation, leaving her unsettled."Everyone here worships her, but since yesterday, when I came in and saw these letters, horrific and macabre gifts—among them even locks of hair and things that really shouldn't be kept—it made me think about what this woman must be going through," his voice echoed in the silence of the warehouse as his eyes scanned the shelves filled with boxes and objects."She’s not that bad; she has everything," Lavínia commented, forcing a smile."No, someone who receives so many hate letters and malicious gifts will never be truly okay. Plus, now she hides. Otherwise, I would have seen her by now. Mrs. Bayer is certainly someone I could get to know and try to understand," he said, moving closer, h

My parents were causing problems, but you didn't leave the company, so you need to go back to your position so you won't be fired for cause.""Go back?" He smiled, bewildered. "I don’t even fit in there, I shouldn’t be there, and I don’t even know how I ended up there.""But you are. If you want this opportunity, it's still yours. Otherwise, just give up. I'm telling you so you can choose your destiny." She said, turning her back to him but then suddenly stopping and looking him up and down. "Still... I believe you need this job. I don’t know why anyone would be picking up old stuff from the trash like this," she finished, shrugging and walking away."Just what I needed." He murmured under his breath, until

Cap. 23: Signs of UnbalanceHe couldn’t hear everything, and ran to his room, feeling an aggressive wave of nausea that made him vomit, while a growing hatred filled his chest. His parents heard a loud scream and something breaking, but didn’t go in to check on him. At that moment, not only was he shaken, but also his mother and father, as they knew how much Zen had protected that girl.“He’s having an outburst again, let him be,” Zen’s father said, holding his wife’s arm when she tried to go to the room.“I know how hard this must be for him, after everything he’s been through... and not even remembering any of it, but I believe he could use some support in these moments,” she said, anxiously.“The girl he was protecting was killed after being abused. What do you think about that? There are no words for that,” she said, still listening to the noise.Zen kept pounding on the mirror, grunting in pain, but he seemed to find some satisfaction as his fingers were torn apart. Cap. 24: Friend? The "Jaguar" Friend. The elevator door opened, revealing the waiting room. Bayer, elegant and impassive, observed the scene. Samuel and Zara, leaning against the wall, exchanged a knowing look, a malicious smile curving their lips. Zen, with firm steps, crossed the room, his shoulders tense."Hello, madam..." Cintia, the psychologist, tried to greet Lavínia as Bayer, but was interrupted by Zara, who, with a quick motion, pulled her into a tight and desperate hug.Cintia was surprised by the show of affection, as it was unusual, given that they didn't get along well. Her eyes, behind the lenses of her glasses, revealed a certain unease. Zara, taking advantage of the proximity, whispered something in Cintia's ear, a shared secret that made the psychologist smile as she looked at Lavínia. Zen, feeling more and more uncomfortable, shoved his hands into the pockets of his suit, keeping his eyes distant from Lavínia, who was staring at him with concern, but he hadn’t notice

Hiding behind the two interns as if they were shields, she continued, "As your superior, I order you to wash the floor of the courtyard and remove all the moss. And as you know, I am your superior. But if you want to leave it as it is and give up, you'll be fired before you’re even officially hired. You have the freedom to choose."Lavínia laughed, a short and bitter laugh."Freedom," she thought sarcastically. "What kind of freedom is that?""I know what freedom I’d want right now, but I'm sure the law forbids it." She approached Zara, her eyes fixed on hers. Her friend took a step back, surprised by Lavínia’s audacity. With a wicked smile on her lips, Lavínia turned and walked out, leaving Zara and her shields stunned."Zara doesn’t know the mess she’s getting into with her behavior!" Laví

Cap. 26: Always the HelperHer eyes widened in horror. Without hesitation, Zen lunged forward, pushing her along with his body, and she fell onto him, away from the area. The pot shattered into a thousand pieces, the wet soil spreading across the floor. Lavínia, still dazed, looked into his eyes, not realizing what had just happened."Are you crazy?" she asked, still lying on Zen's body, slapping her palm against his chest. Her wide eyes followed his gaze, finding the broken clay pot on the floor. A tremor ran through her body. "Was that about to fall on me?""Not with me here," he whispered, relieved, but with a lump in his throat. The adrenaline still kept him on edge.Lavínia stood up, still tense and unmoving. The shock had left her speechless."It could have been an accident," she murmured, more to herself than to him."Could be," he confirmed, not believing his own words. He knew it hadn’t been an accident. Someone had thrown the pot with intention."It seems like I owe you a fa

Cap. 27: Bayer's Assistant?Lavínia had no choice. Even though she wanted to distance herself from Zen, it was as if he had glued himself to her like a shadow.“You don’t need to hold me so tight, okay?” she grumbled, trying to break free, but he kept her firmly against him. Finally, they managed to get into the elevator booth, and she pushed him hard, creating some space between them.“It’s not my fault you spent the whole afternoon attacking the floor with a broom because of your friend. I’m just helping you,” he replied indifferently, his voice full of irony. Her heels clicked loudly against the floor of the elevator, echoing in the confined space.“Why are you so annoying?” she asked, challenging him. But Zen simply looked at her with an ironic smile, pressing his lips together. The door opened, and they stepped out.Lavínia stormed out, throwing her heels to the ground. Zen picked them up with an exaggerated sigh.“You’re making yourself look like a child,” he commented, his voic

Mr. Romanov never told his son who Lavínia Bayer really is. He literally still has no idea who you are. It’s like he did this on purpose,” Samuel observed, intrigued.“What could be going on? I think, as a precaution, you should tell him the truth,” Zara suggested, worried about the situation.“That guy… Zen or Cedrick, whatever his name is, has nothing to do with me anymore, and we have no reason to speak to each other,” she said sharply, making it clear she didn’t want to discuss the matter any further.“Okay…” Samuel sighed, thoughtful as he glanced around the mansion. “We need to keep this completely secret for now. No one can know you’re living here,” he warned, as if an important thought had just crossed his mind.Meanwhile, Valmont was on h

Why are they doing everything so fast?" Zara asked, surprised.Samuel approached and sat down next to them, curious. "Are you planning to attend this event?" he asked, looking at Lavínia."Where has he been? Has he returned to Alpha Corp?" Lavínia inquired, referring to Romanov."From what I've heard, he's been going in as if nothing happened," Samuel informed."That's strange. I thought he would never set foot in Alpha Corp again," Zara commented."So did I. When he returns, are you going to fire him?" Samuel asked Lavínia."He doesn’t know that I’m Mrs. Bayer. If he wants to leave, he can do it on his own. But if he stays, he’ll have plenty of reasons to walk out. I don’t care what he does anymore. I n

Chapter 100 – A Hidden Truth"When were you planning to tell me what’s going on?" Samuel asked, his voice filled with reproach as he opened the envelope containing their medical exams."I wasn’t hiding anything, I was going to tell you..." Zara muttered, her head lowered, drawing a worried look from Lavínia."What’s happening with Zara? And why did you decide to return to the city so quickly?" Lavínia questioned, her voice edged with surprise and anger."Because this is the best place for both of you. In our old town, there aren’t doctors equipped to handle your delicate conditions. When I took Zara to the doctor, I found out that she’s been treating a brain tumor for a year. It doesn’t seem to be progressing, but she still needs treatment to prevent it from turning malignant. But she’s been hiding it and hasn’t been undergoing treatment for an entire year. What do you think is going to happen?" Samuel directed the question at Zara, who looked away, unable to hold back her tears."Zar

Chapter 99: The Unspoken TruthZara stumbled backward, startled, and the jar shattered on the floor, its sharp sound echoing through the kitchen. The light flickered on, revealing a chaotic scene: glass shards scattered everywhere and Zara, pale. Samuel rushed toward her, concern etched on his face.“Don’t move,” he ordered, his voice firm, cutting through the silence. His eyes scanned the floor, assessing the extent of the disaster. The shards of glass sparkled under the light, like tiny malevolent stars. With careful movements, Samuel approached Zara, avoiding the glass fragments.“What are you doing?” she asked, her voice trembling. His proximity made her nervous, yet comforted her at the same time.He carefully picked her up, feeling the lightness of her body. The sensation of holding her in his arms was strangely familiar. He placed her gently on the cold marble table.“How can you be so careless?” he scolded, his voice softer than the tone he’d used before. His eyes shifted to t

Chapter 98 - The Secrets We Hide“We need to go back now!” Zara hurriedly warned. Lavínia, calm, continued getting ready as if nothing important was happening.“Go back? Being here feels so good,” she sighed, indifferent, her eyes focused on the mirror.“God… I can’t believe we did this!” Zara threw herself onto the bed, covering her face with her hands. The guilt and shame consumed her.“What are you talking about?” Lavínia asked, not understanding her friend's reaction.“Didn’t you realize what we were doing?” Zara asked, incredulous. Lavínia’s expression, however, was one of genuine confusion. “Samuel, we didn’t even care that he was a man. How many times has he seen you without clothes?”“Oh… many times, I think,” Lavínia sighed, as if recalling a distant memory. “He’s like my bodyguard. Although at first, I did it on purpose, it was a test to see if he was really focused on his work and took it seriously. And he managed to earn his place and rise in his career, becoming one of t

I didn’t see anyone.” Zara stopped, incredulous.“Are you sure?” he asked, a tone of irony in his voice, fixing his gaze on her as he stood in front of her with his arms crossed, his muscles accentuated by his short-sleeve cotton shirt with a small opening at the collar.“Yes, normally you always disappear when there’s a woman around, but I haven’t seen anyone these days.”“Oh... you haven’t seen any women?” he asked with sarcasm.“No!”“It could be, maybe I’m walking around with an angel. She’s as beautiful as one.” he sighed, while Zara kept her attention on his subtle smile, not realizing who he was referring to. Zara crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing in suspicion.“Who?” she sighed, placing a hand on her chest as if feeling her heartbeat quicken.“You’re so slow, I haven’t been seeing other women because I’ve been seeing one already, and she tends to put her foot in my face.” Samuel averted his gaze as though hiding something.

Cintia said enthusiastically, guiding him into the room."Is this where I'll stay?" he asked, his voice laced with a mix of surprise and distrust. After all, why such a big and well-equipped room for him, all of a sudden? The room was spacious, with modern furniture and a stunning view of the city."Considering your specialization, you should've taken over this room a long time ago. We have a list of staff to attend to during your off hours as well. I'll warn you, the employees who work directly with Bayer are the most demanding. They become machines, I believe there's not one who doesn’t cause problems that could lead to stress or even a heart attack.""This woman seems really troublesome," he commented indifferently, though a strange sense of unease stirred inside him."You don’t know her?" she asked, eyeing him curiously."Not really," he replied, his gaze distant."Bayer really chose to hide well,

We were super uncomfortable, no bed, and she gave us a mattress to sleep on the floor. He didn't deny it, just smiled. His mom is so sweet, she treated me so well." Zara sighed, filled with nostalgia."That's good. I never met his mother, actually, I never even knew anything about his family in the years we've worked together. But I know he has a lot of emotional baggage; a lot happened to him while he was working for the state as a soldier." Lavinia said with anticipation."Ah... I know, he's always out having fun and dating different women, but what's funny is that it seems like he's trying to suppress something inside him." Zara observed, thoughtful. That vulnerable side of Samuel intrigued her."Maybe..." Lavinia commented, deep in thought. "You can use this time at his mother's boarding house to learn more about hi
