Three days back in the office and he had not heard anything about the case. He expected the verdict any minute now. Though he knew that it would be a few after it was read. An hour after he finished his class, he was back in the office, going over the papers in front of him. He had stacks of them everywhere. They were the first assignment for the different classes he had. He still thought he would be able to read them at some point, but he was never all that surprised that he couldn’t. It was really only two weeks into the semester, and he already could see the headaches happening.

That was when his cell phone went off. He looked at the number, and he knew.

“Anderson.” He answered it. There was a pause.

“It came back guilty on all counts.” The DA stated, and then Max could feel like he was light as air. He knew that it was finally over. “It is done.”

“How can I help you, Miss Watson?” he asked. “Well, sir, I have a problem. I have been here for five years for my major, and the school has constantly changed my requirements. One was added before the semester, and I was not informed of this until today.” Deanna said as she was about to go on. “Miss Watson, I am sorry I have about a million papers to grade, and I have had quite a few people dropping by. Can you please get to the point?” he asked as he sighed. He didn’t know why he was acting like this. It was his goal. He was slightly confused as to the way that life worked out so well. He was still trying to figure out the fact he was free, and then she was right there in front of him. “I need to act as a TA for a professor for a semester to be able to graduate. You are the only one lef

As he told her what he wanted her to do, she went to work on the other side of his desk from where he was sitting. She was looking at the papers, and one by one, she was reading through them and then placed a post-it note on each with her notes, which, when she passed the papers over to him, he looked over and glanced at the documents and then graded each. As he entered the grades into the computer that was on his desk and waited for the next paper she handed him, he was finding that this system was better for him. They might finish the major stack of documents in a matter of hours instead of his three to four days. As he looked at her now, he was impressed with the four years worth of change in her. Coming to him could not have been easy to do. He had garnered a reputation of being difficult, and he didn’t mind that. He knew that they still had to go over a few things. If he was as

“Well, Profes… Max,” she said as she saw his eyes flash, “I can do this anytime, but I will have to read over my notes for each assignment for the stuff later on in your class if it hasn’t changed too much.” “I rewrote the course two years ago, so I will have you sit in on the class lectures so you can help with the assignments. When I did, I, unfortunately, wasn’t thinking about the amount of paperwork the more homework and papers I would be assigning. I have to wait to redo the course again if I am picked up for next year.” Max said as he sat back in his chair again. “Why wouldn’t you be picked up?” Deanna asked. “Well, teaching was something I never planned on doing. I was asked to help develop a new course for those going into the crime scene fields. I thought it would be a good idea because what they had been teaching wasn't relevant to what we actually did when going over a scene. I watched too many people burn out because they didn’t kno

Max walked out to the parking lot after locking up the office for the night. He knew that it had to be hard for her to come to him, remembering how tongue-tied she was that one time. Though she had actually talked to him afterward, it was nothing but working together either as a student or she had been nice enough to make a little small talk. She had been clear on the things that she wanted in her life, and that was to finish school. He had been the same way. He had to know the feeling of wanting something again to change the world for those trying to get into the field was something he couldn’t pass up. Though he had fought with the administration for the classes to be added and the new degree to be added to the course selection, it was always passed up. Max was beyond frustrated w

Max was surprised with himself. This was not like him. As she didn’t struggle against him, he deepened the kiss slowly. It was like time was standing still. He knew it had been way too long since he had a woman in his life. As his lips moved to cover hers gently and with a need he didn’t quite understand, his brain was screaming at him that she was a student, she was younger than him, she was out of his league, anything, and everything to try to pry himself off of her. However, the rest of him wasn’t listening to his brain, one iota. This had to be a dream. It had to be. He was going to enjoy it, though. His hand at her back was holding her close and off the car door. He could feel the hard metal against the back of his hand. Though he wasn’t pushing her into the car, he knew he was close to it. Though he wanted to keep this going since it could not be real. He had not ever thought to do something like this ever with anyone. He felt like he was

“Is this a professor hang out?” Deanna asked as she looked around. “It looks like it, but I wouldn’t have a clue,” Max replied. “I know some people from the force have told me this place was good.” “How does that work?” Deanna asked as she turned around to face him. He was glad she had dropped the subject and was talking about another. “How does what work?” he asked back. “You and the police force?” Deanna asked as she met his eyes as his name was called to be seated. He guided her back to the table and waited until she sat before he took the seat opposite of her. Somehow he was able to keep his mind clear of everything but what they were talking about. That was enough of an issue for him to stop and think what she was saying. He could barely hear his brain over the hard thudding in his chest. Though fate might have brought her to him right when he was able to really deal and comprehend what was going on and that this was a prize he won

Max let the silence fall between them as he let the question hang in the air. He didn’t even understand it himself. He was so driven before that he didn’t understand the growing need. He had to see her more. She was a former student and now someone he had chosen to be his assistant. He couldn’t help but be drawn to her like he was four years prior, except this time, he wouldn’t have that conflict because of everything was different now. She was older. Deanna really looked confused about the conversation. “Come, princess, I think we have a few things to talk about,” Max said as he picked up the receipt for the meal. He stood up and then went over to Deanna and helped her out of her chair. A hand at her back as they walked out to see the sunset playout in the sky. He looked down at the tiny woman by his side. As he saw people looking at the two of them and smiled at the pair, he thought that it was

“What?” she asked. “Come back to my house.” He pleaded with her. He felt he was on fire. Desire was leaching into his blood. “Not to have sex. But to take this a little bit further. Something we can’t do here.” “Are you sure?” Deanna asked as she looked into his eyes. They were burning in a way she had never seen before. “Yes.” He said as he stood and when he tried to move quickly. “Deanna, we do need to talk, but I can’t think here,” Max said. He smiled at her as she placed her hand in his. He wanted to throw her over his shoulder and run back to his house and throw her in his bed. He knew he had to take a step back and give her time. This was not like him. He needed an ice bath. There was something about her that made his blood boil in the best of ways. This was years of pent-up wanting and then his own needs coming through. The car ride to his house was short. It was only a few streets over. As soon as the garage door shut, he

The next few days Max was completely engrossed in going over the course from the beginning to the end. He had already rewritten at once and now he was going to make it more specific period he was already looking up case files and everything else that he could possibly do to get everything completely set. Though the paperwork Adam actually come in yet he was betting that it would any day now. He was OK with the fact that it wasn't totally official because he had the men’s word and his own captain's word working for him. He knew that they just had to make it more transferable on paper. He would leave that to them knowing that that was what it was going to be.the next few days he was also dealing with Deanna who is still in the middle of her grief. Though it seemed to hit her at random times it was still hitting her out of the blue. She was dealing with everything as she always did with her head held high even if she had tears in her eyes. Max stop Deanna and the kids off at the university and then he went to the Academy. He knew that it wasn't going to take very long for him to go over everything. When he did get there he was ushered into their conference room and he passed out the folders to the three Deans of the different academies. He knew that that was going to be the number one thing that he had to do was make sure that he sold the program. He was good at selling himself as well. He had been doing it for years since he left the military. One of the things that he had to learn that in the civilian world it was his reputation that was going to get him very far. The fact that he had been in the military and woon did in battle wear something that people wanted to know about. So he had found a way to tell them without actually telling them anything. He had a normal way with words that was able to make the most complicated thing seem uncomplicated. That was also one of the reasons w

Max had been surprised the entire night. Everybody had been on their best behavior when they actually saw Deanna standing next to him. And then of course the two kids. Henny was smiling like there was no tomorrow because she knew that he had finally gotten what he always wanted. Mac kept smiling too but it was for a different reason and Max knew that as well. This was definitely going to be one of those things that they were going to have to do frequently enough that Deanna needed to feel comfortable around them. He didn't actually believe that couples should have too many friends that were not other couples. He was kind of old fashioned in the way that he thought. She could have as many friends as she wanted that was perfectly fine but they would probably spend more time with other couples. It just seemed not to cause as many problems in any relationship. At least that was his view of it and like he knew he could learn something else.Mac was more

Max knew that he had to explain a few things on the way over to the other couples house. So he began to give them a rundown of everybody that was there including the kids. He also explained how him an Mac were friends to the point that it was like Max was one of their kids as well even though he was pretty much the same ages them. it was one of those interesting relationships that Max had filled his life with before he was able to deal with anything really personal. He also then began to explain slightly how they knew about her well before they had become a couple. “so just so you understand that they're going to probably be teasing me a lot and giving me a lot of crap. It's going to be because of you but that's OK.”“what do you mean it's because of me?” Deanna asked if she looked at him she was slightly surprised after being very amused with the way that he was explaining his friends to her. He meant what he said when he said he wanted to out and celebrate. It wasn't very often that he had the opportunity to spoil the woman that he loved and take his kids out at the same time period though he wasn't exactly short how that was going to work. So he decided that he was going to take them out for a nice meal when his phone began to ring. Halo down and saw that it was a person that he was actually just thinking about Mac Paulin who is another detective in one of the sister police precinct. They had worked a few cases together and they had also worked on a case that had basically changed Mac and his wife henni’s life for a little bit.Mac was one of maxs friends. He didn't really consider many people to be his actual friend but they had actually become rather good friends over the past few years. Packing everybody up with a little bit easier and he knew that this would become a routine eventually. He knew that he was going to have them there for as long as he worked in the building. He grabbed his folders and put them in his briefcase and then gave Henry his bag. Henry just looked at him like he had completely lost his mind. “When it's time to go home I'm gonna give you this bag. And we're going to pack up the things that you want to take home with you. We can't come back to the university at night so we're going to make sure that we take everything that we want. Remember you have lots of toys at home as well so you can leave some things here. but I know that you wanna take bear and blankie with you.” Mac said as he looked at him and then he began to help Henry pick up the things that were the most important. “We're going to leave your bed in your sisters bed here so it's easier for mommy and me.”“DD is mommy?

He was more than happy to sit back and wait for the repercussions to actually happen. None of that actually mattered to Max right now. After about 10 minutes of trying to get around exactly what the man was saying Max had enough. He was absolutely just thoroughly enjoying the fact that the man was so flustered that Max kept coming back with something else. It was like none of the other professors actually never questioned him. Or the fact that he normally had a few students going into his office for a few hours every day period of course those particular students were young females who had no business going into the Dean of students for the department’s office period of course Max wasn't actually going to bring that up but he was alluding to it. The only female that he wanted in his office.
