Max then waited for the DA to come out, and he chuckled as he looked at the younger man. “You seem like you have been waiting for this, son.”

“I have waited for this moment since the beginning of the case,” Max said. “But I always do. I look forward to knowing I began this with one thing, and I helped speak for the dead as well. I just want the case closed like I do for every one of them.”

“No personal issues?” The DA asked as he looked at Max. “I just have to make sure.”

“In the beginning, there was maybe,” Max said as he thought back to the beginning of the case. “I then began to focus on the facts, and I was able to let go of the past that I held on to. I feel sorry for the victim. I had a small interaction with all these people, but she had to live her entire life with all thi

Max sat in front of his computer the next two days, debating on how much he wanted to put into the next school year. He looked around the office that he had for the past four years. It was still full of his stacks of paper. He didn’t know what to do with them. He didn’t even know how he was going to keep up with the changes in the way they did things and how to teach them with the restrictions of his classes. He got up and knew that he had to go to the staff meeting where he was meeting with the dean’s afterward to go over the changes in a lot of the classes. He walked into the room, and all the other professors were there already. He looked around and found an empty seat. He went to it and sat down. “That case you worked on over the summer.” Someone said, “It was so interesting.” “I can’t talk about an ongoing case,” Max said with a s

“Well, Anderson, your course is safe for the moment, but we did have to allocate most of the funds to the harder sciences.” The Dean of the department said as she looked at Max. “I figured,” Max said with a chuckle. “So, I can continue with the course as it is designed?” “Of course.” The two men said at the same time. “However, I do have to suggest that you open your office hours a few more days a week, and also if a student comes to you for help that you offer it.” The dean of the department said. Max knew that was him telling Max he needed to make sure that he made the department look really good. He was again just a pawn for another man’s career. In this case, he didn’t mind too much though he didn’t think that any student would ever come to him unless it was a last-ditch effort. He smiled at the two men. “Of course, I will do whatever is

“Good morning, class,” Max said as he stood in front of his new class. “This year, we will be learning the ways of how to use your deduction skill as a detective and all touch on all the things that the average person in the field has to do and know.” “Professor Anderson, you’re the one involved in that huge case in midlands, aren’t you?” A girl asked from the front row of the class. “I am involved with that case,” Max said. “You will find that I do not talk about cases specifically in this class. Though I may use past cases as examples sometimes. But speaking of that case. There will come a time that I will have to be out of the classroom and office hours for a little bit of time. The case will become my priority when it goes to trial. A successful trial will mean I did my job well.” “Is that what you want to do for t

The next month went by as he noticed that he had not heard anything but the normal files coming from the station house. He had not heard about the case at all. He wondered if something happened that bombed the entire case. Though he wasn’t brave enough to call and ask. He just turned in his paperwork every weekend when he went into his office to check on things. At school, he was well known as the person who the students never went to for extra help unless they really needed it. He actually didn’t mind that. He was pretty happy except for the case continuing to be hung over him. He went to all of his classes and fended off a few overzealous females a few times. He began to wonder if he would ever really be free. He knew that he had to finally break down and ask ab

After another few weeks, he got the call he had been waiting for. He knew it was coming. “We have the date.” The DA said into the phone, and Max felt a rush of everything going through him again. He knew he had to push that all aside. “Okay,” Max said. “When?” “In three weeks. The two are scheduled back to back. The father goes first. Then the mother. We will go over some of the changes in the cases and the charges before. We will need you in for prepping and debriefing a few days before.” The DA said. “I am a hundred percent confident in our case now. We found even more evidence of the guilt in both parties.” “Good,” Max said as he began to mentally plan for everything with the class. He had so much time to get ready for this, but he didn’t want to really. He had been waiting for the final words so he could begin to get ready. Now he was faced with the idea he was going o be in co

He had everything for the classes he was gone for set up. All that had to be done was the students had to watch the video he posted to YouTube. Then they had their assignments to be written and emailed to him. This was the best way to handle everything. The kids seemed to enjoy the fact they would not have him in class for a few weeks. He went over to Mack and Henni’s house the night before they began heavily prepping for the trial. He needed one night without thinking about anything but the future. He smiled as he got there because it was one of the little monsters birthday’s the entire group was going to be there. He smiled as he got there, and Mack clapped him on the back. “Almost ready for this?” Mack asked. “The party or the trial,” Max asked as he looked at the other man. “Right now, the party,” Mack said. “The trial can wait. But there is a surprise that you will find out about.”

When Max walked into the room, he knew he was in for it. The mock courtroom was in front of him. The evidence, including his boards, was in there. It was almost a welcome sight for him. He hadn’t been on the stand in a while, and he was feeling it. “Ready, Detective?” the DA asked as he saw Max enter. “Yes,” Max said as he went to his seat and waited as they started to go over the way the case changed a bit. They had a folder for him as they went over everything. They were going to go over every single piece of evidence that Max had uncovered, and then he would be questioned a few different times to make sure he was ready. The trial was in less than a week. He was ready to get this over. At least the first one would be. That wasn’t all that hard for him to think about. The trials were going o be back to back, so everyt

Three weeks passed, and he had been in the courthouse twice. Both times he had given his testimony, and on cross-examination, he had been hammered on the stand. It was just like he thought it would be. They tried like hell to tear his character and his professionalism apart. Neither time was successful, though. Max did not do what they had expected him to do and lose his cool on the stand. He had not shown an ounce of emotion. Instead, he responded with more professionalism than the lawyers for the defense had. It was remarked on many times. The first trial had only been a week long. Philip had tried to testify on his own behalf, and that was his major downfall. The things that the defense had got excluded from the trial were able to be brought up because of the man’s own hubris. He boasted about things on the stand that people had to wonder if he was healthy mentally or not. The jury had only been out for a day when they came back and r

The next few days Max was completely engrossed in going over the course from the beginning to the end. He had already rewritten at once and now he was going to make it more specific period he was already looking up case files and everything else that he could possibly do to get everything completely set. Though the paperwork Adam actually come in yet he was betting that it would any day now. He was OK with the fact that it wasn't totally official because he had the men’s word and his own captain's word working for him. He knew that they just had to make it more transferable on paper. He would leave that to them knowing that that was what it was going to be.the next few days he was also dealing with Deanna who is still in the middle of her grief. Though it seemed to hit her at random times it was still hitting her out of the blue. She was dealing with everything as she always did with her head held high even if she had tears in her eyes. She was really try

Max stop Deanna and the kids off at the university and then he went to the Academy. He knew that it wasn't going to take very long for him to go over everything. When he did get there he was ushered into their conference room and he passed out the folders to the three Deans of the different academies. He knew that that was going to be the number one thing that he had to do was make sure that he sold the program. He was good at selling himself as well. He had been doing it for years since he left the military. One of the things that he had to learn that in the civilian world it was his reputation that was going to get him very far. The fact that he had been in the military and woon did in battle wear something that people wanted to know about. So he had found a way to tell them without actually telling them anything. He had a normal way with words that was able to make the most complicated thing seem uncomplicated. That was also one of the reasons w

Max had been surprised the entire night. Everybody had been on their best behavior when they actually saw Deanna standing next to him. And then of course the two kids. Henny was smiling like there was no tomorrow because she knew that he had finally gotten what he always wanted. Mac kept smiling too but it was for a different reason and Max knew that as well. This was definitely going to be one of those things that they were going to have to do frequently enough that Deanna needed to feel comfortable around them. He didn't actually believe that couples should have too many friends that were not other couples. He was kind of old fashioned in the way that he thought. She could have as many friends as she wanted that was perfectly fine but they would probably spend more time with other couples. It just seemed not to cause as many problems in any relationship. At least that was his view of it and like he knew he could learn something else.Mac was more

Max knew that he had to explain a few things on the way over to the other couples house. So he began to give them a rundown of everybody that was there including the kids. He also explained how him an Mac were friends to the point that it was like Max was one of their kids as well even though he was pretty much the same ages them. it was one of those interesting relationships that Max had filled his life with before he was able to deal with anything really personal. He also then began to explain slightly how they knew about her well before they had become a couple. “so just so you understand that they're going to probably be teasing me a lot and giving me a lot of crap. It's going to be because of you but that's OK.”“what do you mean it's because of me?” Deanna asked if she looked at him she was slightly surprised after being very amused with the way that he was explaining his friends to her. It wasn't like she had a

He meant what he said when he said he wanted to out and celebrate. It wasn't very often that he had the opportunity to spoil the woman that he loved and take his kids out at the same time period though he wasn't exactly short how that was going to work. So he decided that he was going to take them out for a nice meal when his phone began to ring. Halo down and saw that it was a person that he was actually just thinking about Mac Paulin who is another detective in one of the sister police precinct. They had worked a few cases together and they had also worked on a case that had basically changed Mac and his wife henni’s life for a little bit.Mac was one of maxs friends. He didn't really consider many people to be his actual friend but they had actually become rather good friends over the past few years. He grabbed his folders and put them in his briefcase and then gave Henry his bag. Henry just looked at him like he had completely lost his mind. “When it's time to go home I'm gonna give you this bag. And we're going to pack up the things that you want to take home with you. We can't come back to the university at night so we're going to make sure that we take everything that we want. Remember you have lots of toys at home as well so you can leave some things here. but I know that you wanna take bear and blankie with you.” Mac said as he looked at him and then he began to help Henry pick up the things that were the most important. “We're going to leave your bed in your sisters bed here so it's easier for mommy and me.”“DD is mommy?

He was more than happy to sit back and wait for the repercussions to actually happen. None of that actually mattered to Max right now. The way that he had thought of it was it was going to be something that they were going to have to deal with anyway period now the fact that he possibly had another job waiting for him that was going to be better would be the absolute feather in his cap right now.that happened to be the moment that his phone rang right before Deanna could actually say something to him about what had just happened. “hello this is detective Anderson.” Max stated into the phone as he had an idea of what the number actually was. After about 10 minutes of trying to get around exactly what the man was saying Max had enough. He was absolutely just thoroughly enjoying the fact that the man was so flustered that Max kept coming back with something else. It was like none of the other professors actually never questioned him. Or the fact that he normally had a few students going into his office for a few hours every day period of course those particular students were young females who had no business going into the Dean of students for the department’s office period of course Max wasn't actually going to bring that up but he was alluding to it. The only female that he wanted in his office. Was the one who was sitting in the corner.he looked over to Indiana who was watching the whole thing trying not to laugh as she was continuing to fake read whatever she was reading.
