Max sat in front of his computer the next two days, debating on how much he wanted to put into the next school year. He looked around the office that he had for the past four years. The next month went by as he noticed that he had not heard anything but the normal files coming from the station house. He had not heard about the case at all. He had everything for the classes he was gone for set up. All that had to be done was the students had to watch the video he posted to YouTube. Then they had their assignments to be written and emailed to him. This was the best way to handle everything. The kids seemed to enjoy the fact they would not have him in class for a few weeks. He went over to Mack and Henni’s house the night before they began heavily prepping for the trial. He needed one night without thinking about anything but the future. When Max walked into the room, he knew he was in for it. The mock courtroom was in front of him. The evidence, including his boards, was in there. It was almost a welcome sight for him. He hadn’t been on the stand in a while, and he was feeling it. “Ready, Detective?” the DA asked as he saw Max enter. “Yes,” Max said as he went to his seat and waited as they started to go over the way the case changed a bit. Three weeks passed, and he had been in the courthouse twice. Both times he had given his testimony, and on cross-examination, he had been hammered on the stand. It was just like he thought it would be. They tried like hell to tear his character and his professionalism apart. Neither time was successful, though. Max did not do what they had expected him to do and lose his cool on the stand. He had not shown an ounce of emotion. Instead, he responded with more professionalism than the lawyers for the defense had. It was remarked on many times. The first trial had only been a week long.
