The two continued to eye each other with a tense stance. My mom rolled her shoulders back, standing up straighter, and had no fear in her eyes. She knew she could win, she was the toughest warrior in the South after all. The other people in the hospital ward watched as Rebecca grabbed at her now broken arm in pain but it looked like she was putting on a show. Nobody had expected my mother to break her arm, not even me. Alpha Bernard looked like he wanted to punch her. His arm started to raise in a fist, it shook in the air, and then he returned it to his side with a frustrated sigh. My mom gave him a triumphant look. We all knew he wouldn’t hit back. Only a fool would start a fight with my mother, she hadn’t lost a battle in over ten years. Not a single Alpha could defeat her, and they wouldn’t try anymore. On top of that, he would know my father’s wrath and didn’t dare inspire it. “You should leave punishing my daughter to me,” Alpha Bernard said, and my mother scoffed before turn
Arthur stalked over to Judy and me with a sinister grin. His lanky figure towered above us as he stopped in front of the two of us. When I looked at Judy’s expression she looked more worried than interested when she said, “My mate.” “Hello, my mate,” Arthur said and went to pull Judy into his arms. I felt sick to my stomach at the idea of such a nice girl being with a guy like Arthur. To my relief, Judy looked just as sick at the thought, not entirely looking comfortable in his arms. Arthur ignored her expression and embraced her with a handsome but evil smile, long arms wrapping around her petite figure. “Look at how beautiful you look today,” Arthur said and pulled at her blonde locks a bit, watching the way the curls bounced. “You look like the prettiest doll on the shelf, my mate.” He felt along the curves of her body and that seemed to be the last straw. Judy pushed him away from her and rolled her eyes, stepping back and closer to me. I wrapped my arm around her gently, to
*Atlas* As soon as I was back I knew something had happened. It didn’t take me long to figure out that Rebecca had attempted to kill Aria, almost succeeding. I had never wanted to kill a woman before, and never this badly. And I would succeed where she failed… Fury and rage coursed through my veins. I couldn’t help but blame myself. The feeling was hot in my body. I should have seen this coming and stayed around Aria so I could project her as much as I possibly could. I knew that Rebecca had it out for my mate; I should have put a stop to this long ago. I should have put a stop to this in the first battle class when the two girls were fighting. It was obvious even then that Rebecca was out for blood. Valeria had mentioned this and I cursed myself for not listening. Knowing that Aria was wolfless, she was worried that she would be a target. Even Valeria admitted she was a great warrior, but that didn’t make up for the fact that she was wolfless. Beyond that, Veleria understood tha
*Aria* Scott and his gang approached us, their eyes filled with a sinister glint. Judy clung to me, seeking refuge behind my protective shoulder. The two members of Scott’s gang eyed her specifically and smiled creepily. “Was it you?” he spat, his face contorted with anger. I met his gaze with a defiant stare, my lip curling in a sneer. His rage only made him look more ridiculous, like an overripe tomato. I didn’t know what he meant. The fact that he was so angry about something I had completely forgotten was funny. “Um, what are you talking about?” I asked, cursing this waste of time. There was a trial to focus on. A trail to win! We could worry about academy gossip later. “Our little conversation the other day, did you tell everyone about it?” Scott demanded to know and I shook my head. It wasn’t important who had broken up with who in that relationship. It had obviously been fake the whole time, in hindsight. What would I gain from that? I had a new man in my life, one tha
*Aria*“Are you there?” I asked my wolf. “Yes, Aria. What’s wrong?” She asked and I felt nervous about asking her what I wanted to ask next. I squared my shoulders and let out a shaky breath. “Would I… Would I be able to shift today?” I asked and my wolf let out a laugh. “Yes, you would. Let’s do this.” She answered and I felt a new sensation fill my body. It was like my soul was trying to escape my body. My body started to shift and grow, it was much easier than I thought it would ever be. I was grateful to the goddess for blessing me with such a strong wolf.Judy watched me as I shifted and it felt kind of embarrassing until I saw she was doing the same. Her wolf was a light blonde, just like her hair, and lithe. She looked almost acrobatic and very stunning. Her eyes were icy blue just like Atlas’s. Once I had fully shifted I wondered what I looked like and made my way over to the river by the field. Judy joined me at my side and I gazed at my reflection. My wolf was whi
Rebecca gave us a dirty look as we walked up to the center area. Her groupies were behind her, looking more worried by our sudden presence than she did. They were in front of the entrance, not letting people enter. The elites protested at this as Judy and I watched. Comparing how many people entered the forest for the initial ceremony to how many were left now, a good chunk of the freshmen had been eliminated already. The center arena was bigger than I expected and totally enclosed, what was inside a secret other than the door leading in. Looking in I couldn’t make out what was inside other than the dirt floor. The door itself had two large mental portions that looked like they were swinging shut once the finale of the trial began - keeping us in until a victor emerged. I eyed the crowd to see who my competition would be…. It seemed like it wouldn’t be too hard. The entrance to the center arena was large but not large enough to get around the four girls who stood as a united front.
“You can’t go in there,” Debby said quietly and started wring her hands together. Judy gave her a nasty look and pulled her hand off me, standing between her and me. I chuckled, it was nice but unnecessary. I put my hand on Judy’s shoulder and moved to stand next to her, crossing my arms and standing up straighter. “And why is that? Trying to protect your precious queen bitch.” Judy asked in a sarcastic tone and the girl blushed, shaking her head no very quickly. She bounced on her feet nervously and looked around as she spoke. The rest of the crowd was gone at this point, either confident enough to follow Rebecca or too scared to stay. I saw the students who didn’t want to follow Rebecca taking out their phones to dial in for elimination. I groaned in frustration. Judy and I were some of the fastest competitors, but this was a waste of time. “No, no,” Debby started meekly. “It’s not that, it’s just that, um, we’re currently at the edge of the central area. Inside, there is this hu
Rebecca looked shocked, her red-haired wolf took a few steps back as I shifted. As I did, the all-encompassing and powerful feeling overtook me. Arna awoke within me and then overtook me. The people watching us let out gasps as my wolf appeared. My white fur shifted in the breeze as I bared my teeth at Rebecca. Her wolf was smaller than mine and more lithe, but I knew I was more acrobatic and skilled than her. Now that I could shift, this fight seemed easier than ever. I had already defeated her wolf-less. Rebecca’s followers looked scared and moved out of the way, and Judy started cheering me on. I lunged out at Rebecca with all the fury and anger I had been holding in these last few weeks. My experience at the academy had been hard and almost deadly, because of her. I didn’t understand why she couldn’t just let things be. Why did we have to start this feud up again at the academy? It was supposed to be a fresh start. She had gone out of her way to humiliate me and thought she was
