"I cannot believe you were eavesdropping on our conversation," Emma said with an annoyed shake of her head. Her fingers tightened around the phone in her hand, knuckles whitening as she fought to control her irritation.

"I mean well, Emma," Steve replied as he returned her phone, his hand lingering near hers for a moment too long. "Seriously, I do not want your human friend getting hurt or worse." His voice dropped to a lower register, carrying the weight of experiences Emma could only imagine.

Emma sighed and ran a hand through her hair, the copper strands catching the library's warm lighting. It was a nervous gesture, her body betraying her discomfort at being in such close proximity to Steve. He looked relaxed and a bit healthier after his shower, the borrowed clothes fitting his frame as if they had been tailored specifically for him. The scent of her soap clung to his skin, mingling with his own unique aroma—a combination that

Steve's expression suddenly turned troubled, his brow furrowing as his eyes darted to the windows. Emma noticed the change immediately, her own senses heightening in response."What is it?" she asked, her body tensing as she prepared for another threat."I am just a bit surprised that you have the mind to sleep after what we have been through," Steve replied, his voice low and serious. He moved closer to the window, peering out into the darkening forest beyond."You do not believe that we are safe here," Emma stated. It wasn't a question."Are we?" Steve asked skeptically, his shoulders tense as he scanned the treeline.Emma gave him an assured smile, though it didn't quite reach her eyes. "Nobody can find us here," she told him with more confidence than she felt. "Take my word for it." With that said, she left him alone in the big library, feeling his eyes on her back as she walked away. She was shaking with a nervous tension as she exited

There were many good books in this library and Steve was enjoying himself as he read through some of them. His favourite was Werewolves: Origins. It intrigued him because the author was unknown which gave the book more mystery. He also noticed some books and was certain Emma had read them. Healing with Magic. The Cure is Everywhere. Steve also noticed that the authors were anonymous. It was as if the library only kept books of mysterious authors. It piqued his interest and made him wonder how Emma’s father had gotten his hands on these books. Steve thought about how invaluable Emma could have been if they had been together. He was not going to lie, he doubted her profession as a healer the first time he saw her but now with a deadly virus inside him and most of his pack, he had seen first hand how quick thinking and resourceful she was. He was taking a leisure stroll through the library when his eyes caught something. It was a book with leather cover and had ADAMS written in a b

Emma could not believe that she was going to the home of the Alpha who once rejected her. Her hands trembled slightly as she folded another shirt and placed it into her suitcase. The bitter memories flooded back—the humiliation, the pain, the sleepless nights that followed. Yet here she was, preparing to return to the very place she had sworn never to set foot in again. It was the sensible thing to do, but coming to that decision had not been an easy one. Her mind had waged war with itself all night, leaving her exhausted and irritable.Truthfully, Emma had no desire to see Steve's territory, but it was where the virus had been unleashed first. The thought of her research—her life's work—being corrupted and weaponized against her own kind made her stomach churn with rage and guilt. It was something that she could never forgive, not in herself, not in whoever was responsible. She paused, gripping the edge of her dresser until her knuckles turned white. "I am going to get to the bottom

Emma stopped beside her old jeep wrangler, a vehicle as sturdy and reliable as she herself was. It was grey in color and meticulously maintained, much like everything else in Emma's life."Emma, I have a better solution instead," Steve ventured as he appraised the vehicle with a critical eye."Let me guess, you want to drive instead," Emma said, rolling her eyes in anticipation of his alpha male tendencies."No, I am thinking we should fly there instead," Steve replied, a hint of satisfaction in his voice at surprising her. "I have a private jet waiting. It will save us four hours drive.""Show off," Emma muttered, but the prospect of saving precious time was too tempting to ignore.Steve's lips curved into a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "However, we still need to take your car, and I am going to drive instead. You do not know where the airport is," he added, reaching for the keys."Anything to drive the car, huh?" Emma asked sarc

Emma dreamed in the air.The nightmarish vision crashed over her like a wave, identical to what had haunted her back in Seattle. Mountains of bloodied werewolf skulls rose before her, their empty eye sockets seeming to follow her movements. Blood-streaked grass squelched beneath her feet as heavy rain washed crimson rivulets across the landscape. And that voice—that haunting yet eerily familiar voice—echoed in her mind once more."Stop the impending deaths of thousands of werewolves, Emma. Only you can save them. Time is running out."She jerked awake with a gasp, her knuckles white where they gripped the armrests of her seat. Disoriented, her eyes darted wildly around the cabin before recognition dawned. The soft hum of engines. The gentle vibration beneath her feet. She was still on the plane.Steve watched her from across the aisle, concern etched into the hard lines of his face. His usual mask

Steve turned to her, his expression grim. "Some members of my pack believe that I am no longer fit to lead, so there is a call to challenge me," he explained, his voice a controlled rumble of frustration.Emma's mind whirled with the implications. A pack in chaos, divided leadership, all while facing a deadly virus. "So, who is the challenger?" she asked, curiosity getting the better of her.She knew that Steve was a formidable fighter. The memory of him in Seattle flashed unbidden through her mind—his powerful form shifting with lethal grace as he ripped a werewolf's spine from his back. What had shocked her most was that he had done it while heavily infected, when most would have been incapacitated by pain. The recollection sent an involuntary shiver down her spine, a complex mixture of fear, awe, and something else she didn't want to name."It does not matter, Ms. Adams," Marcus interjected before Steve could answer. His knuckles whitened on the steerin

Emma's heart pounded against her ribs as she hastily fastened her seat belt. The car swerved violently left then right, the centrifugal force pressing her against the door before throwing her back across the seat. Outside the windows, nightmarish figures hurled themselves at the vehicle—massive werewolves with matted fur and eyes devoid of intelligence, strings of thick saliva hanging from their elongated jaws as they lunged with primal ferocity."Hang on," Marcus said, his voice eerily calm as his hands manipulated the steering wheel with surgical precision. His movements were fluid, almost beautiful in their efficiency—a stark contrast to the chaos surrounding them. Emma couldn't help but notice the thin sheen of sweat on his forehead, the only visible sign that this impeccably dressed Beta was driving under excruciating pain. The car jolted as they hit something. Emma's gaze darted to Steve sitting beside her, expecting to see fear mirroring her own. Ins

Determination hardened in Emma's chest. "Take me to where you keep the infected," she demanded, her professional instincts taking over."Ms. Emma, perhaps a few hours of rest..." Marcus began, concern evident in his voice."Thank you, Marcus, but I've had enough rest on the flight," Emma cut him off, anxiety feeding her impatience. "I need to see just how bad it is."Marcus sought confirmation from Steve through the rearview mirror. The Alpha nodded solemnly, and his Beta changed direction, taking them toward the outskirts of the community. They pulled up to a massive warehouse, its utilitarian façade belying the horror within. Even before the car fully stopped, Emma was unclicking her seatbelt, her hand fumbling for the door handle in her haste. She burst from the vehicle and ran toward the entrance, her medical bag clutched tightly in her hand. The doors swung open before her, revealing a scene that stole her breath.Stretchers line

  • The Healer's Bond    94. THE OTHER SIDE OF THE HEALER.

Steve was wrong. He had thought he would be able to predict how good Emma would be with those needles but he had been thrown off track by how deadly this petite healer was. She had taken down two big men that towered over her and she did not even need to transform into a werewolf to do so.In fact, the Alpha realized that Emma was deadlier as a healer than a werewolf. She was a living weapon. It made him feel even more stupid that he had rejected her for Sophia. He had been led to believe that her skills as a healer were useless but she had proved him wrong time and time again. She was the reason his pack was covered in pure moon radiation that not only healed him of his wounds but also eradicated the virus that affected him. As of this moment, Steve knew that Emma was the most valuable thing to him and nothing was going to change that. However, the Alpha knew that Emma had not forgiven him yet. Though her body responded well to his touch but her heart was anoth

The big werewolf was momentarily surprised by the healer’s response. Emma had already sized him up. He was a big hunk of muscles and she knew how werewolf muscles worked. The big guy unfortunately did not know that. They all thought she was a just a doctor. The second huge werewolf smiled deeply. There was a sick glint in his eyes as he spoke. “We were really hoping you would give us a hard time, after seating in that cramped vehicle, you owe us some form of entertainment.”Sadists. Emma knew in that instant that she was not going to hold back because these werewolves were not going to do that either. They planned on inflicting pain.“I just have one question,” Steve said. “Sophia sent you?”“You are not in any position to ask anything of us, Steve Kane, no answer is going to save you from the pain you are about to experience,” The first one replied.“And what do you know of pain?

“I would like to have a word with my daughter before you put her in danger, Alpha Kane,” Priscillia’s voice interrupted their conversation. Steve was a bit concerned and wary all of a sudden. He did not hear the Luna come in and that bothered him.“You will get used to it,” Emma whispered with a smile as she saw Steve’s surprised face. Her mother was very stealthy and it took most werewolves by surprise when she appeared without warning.Steve nodded and left both mother and daughter to talk.Luna Priscillia sat down on the bed and looked at the open chest. “I see that you have made your choice,” She said.“You were right,” Emma replied. “I have to be what the situation requires me to be.”Her mother sighed. “Emma, you are more than just a healer or a werewolf, at such a young age you saved my life, and for that I will forever be grateful.” Luna Priscillia said. &ld

Emma felt at ease just being so close to Steven. His body felt like an emotional shield that was protecting her from all the troubles her life was bringing. She felt needed, safe and of she even dared to think, loved.Emma was strengthened by his assuring words but she was still in a dilemma on whether she should do what she really came here to do.“Can I tell you something about me?” Steve whispered as he gently broke the embrace. Emma frowned curiously at him and nodded. She had no idea what the Alpha wanted to say but she paid close attention because he was a mystery to her. “The tradition of attaining the role of Alpha in my pack is through combat and whoever loses the combat forfeits his life,” Steve stated, his voice hoarse with pain. “There is no other way.”“Do you know who I had to fight to the death before I became the Alpha?” Steve asked. Emma shook her head but deep down, she knew that she was not going to like the answer.“My father,” Steve replied. Emma raised her eye

“You are not going through any identity crisis, Emma,” Priscillia told her daughter. “You know exactly who you are meant to be, what you are going through is nothing but denial.”Steve had no idea what Emma’s mother is talking about. But he knew that the discussion was a sensitive topic. One that affected Emma in a way he had never imagined.“I do not take lives,” Emma said in a hard tone. “That is not who I am.”“You are whatever the situation requires you to be, Emma,” Priscillia said.Emma sighed in tired manner. “I am no longer interested in this discussion,” She replied and stood up to leave the office.Steve and Marcus were confused by the abrupt exit of Emma.“Come,” Priscillia said and stood up. “Let me show you to your rooms.” Steve and Marcus followed the Luna of Moon Valley to a small but very clean room.“You must be very confused by what is going on between my daughter and I,” Priscillia said.Steve said nothing as he entered the room. It looked like a student room.“Hone

Steve was shocked by what was playing out in front of him. “Your mother is the Luna?” he asked aghast.“And you are the Alpha that rejected my daughter’s bond,” Emma’s mother stated coldly.“Ma’am,” Marcus said, followed by an embarrassed bow.“Can we come in or am I still banished?” Emma asked in the same cold tone her mother had used. However, there was a bit of impatience in it also.“You may come in, daughter and you were never banished,” Emma’s mother crisply replied and turned toward the open doors. Emma rolled her eyes and followed her mother.Steve and Marcus followed Emma into the grand entrance of Chiron Healing School. The Alpha realized that there was so much he did not know about Emma as he walked beside her into the school. The hallway was pillared and spacious. There were students coming and going as the trio followed the Luna of Moon Valley further inside the building.“Why did you not tell me your mother is the Luna?” Steve whispered as they walked.“There will be no

“We are being followed,” Marcus announced as he drove his Alpha and Emma down to Sarah’s place.“They have been trailing us from the hotel,” Steve said. “Courtesy of Sophia.”“Take us to moon valley instead,” Emma said after a while.“Why?” Steve asked.“We cannot lead then to Sarah, they might hurt her,” Emma replied. “Or worse.”“Or I can lose them,” Marcus suggested.“It will not matter, they will not stop coming after us,” Emma said.“But Moon Valley is very far away, it almost two hours ride from here,” Steve said.“Yeah, I know, but it is the next place to be at the moment,” Emma replied. “Plus, Marcus just tried to send a train filled with experimented monster wolves over there, I need to know what is going on,” the healer added.Steve nodded. “Moon Valley it is,” he said. The Alpha did not want to go back to Moon Valley because it brought about an unwanted memory. It was where he had coldly and cruelly rejected Emma. The car that was following their SUV was a black BMW with bl

Emma bolted down the stairs leaving Sophia on her own. She did not need to imagine what was going on downstairs for her to know that it was a chaotic bloodbath on the ground floor of the house of Laurent. Screams of horror and agony filled the air as the sound of flesh tearing under the pressure of fangs assailed Emma’s ears. She gagged as she ran for her life. She saw severed limbs of the guests and bodies separated from their legs and heads. The ground was thick with blood and the monsters were everywhere, tearing, shredding, and killing anything that crossed their paths. “Emma!” Steve’s voice travelled across the room and Emma turned and saw a large hole broken through the house with the vehicle that Marcus drove in through it. Emma summoned her werewolf speed and raced with all her might towards the vehicle. A monster wolf saw the healer running and gave chase, snarling as it got close to Emma. It lunged into the air but it was stopped midair by a loud hail of bullets. It cra

Emma began to understand why Steve and Sophia did not work out. “What if I die before I find a cure?” she asked Sophia. “What if the virus acts very fast and kills me on the spot?”Sophia did not reply. She looked stumped. “I did not think of that?”“I don’t think thinking is your strongest suit if I am being honest with you,” Emma mused as she looked around the room. She should be worried but she wasn’t.“You don’t seem afraid, doctor with the way you run your mouth, this is the end of the line for you, this is where your story ends.” Sophia said in hardened voice.“Is that how it works for you?” Emma asked. She took a seat on a soft cushion directly in front of Sophia, mirroring her seating posture. “Using fear as a means to get what you want.”“Fear is useful in most cases,” Sophia replied with a cold shrug.“And you think it is useful now,” Emma stated.Sophia did not reply. Again, she was stomped. For the first time, she had to really look at the healer sitting across from her. T
