"Where do we go now?"

"East."

They reached an open area where the bushes were completely out of sight; Sunshine slowed down and finally stopped in front of an ancient oak tree.

"Why?" Joy asked, as both of them leaned on the tree trunk and gasped for air.

"Because one of the grains will be there."

It is recorded in the book-Wilderness that there are five kinds of mythical creatures in ancient times when it is a multi-deity society , represent the directions of East; West, South, North and Middle .Their existence is to guard the five directions and protect the peace of the space. In fact, their role is not that simple, but has a more far-reaching significance, that is, they represent the five fundamental elements of gold, wood, water, fire and earth, which contain all the things in nature and human society in the universe.

Azure Dragon lives in the east and is the head of all mythical beasts. It is said that his body looks like a snake; his head is similar as a unicorn’s and his tail is like a cyprinoids’ tail. He has long whiskers on its face, deer-horns, and five claws. White tiger lives in the west, Rosefinch lives in the south, Black Tortoise lives in the north, and Yellow Dragon lives in the middle. They are all gone after the fall of the deities because of their loyalty. The forest is created as an independently space benefits from the protection of the five mythical creatures, they left a piece of their body part with A Deity’s blessing to built the void as a better environment out of the planet for their descendants.

As they were heading straight to East, Sunshine was telling Joy the story of five mythical creatures. Joy noticed that her hair disheveled like wind-blown withered grass, stringing over her forehead. It seemed Sunshine couldn’t care less, as long as she could catch sight of the path. Joy stepped by next to her to fix her messy hair tenderly, while two red spots burned in Sunshine cheeks and her eyes shone.

"What’s wrong?" Joy did not pause.

"Nothing, this is the first time someone has brushed my hair. It is exhilarating."

"How come? Your mother has never fixed your hair for you?  "

"My mother is not the kind of mother who normally combs her daughter’s hair, and she hoped that her daughter should not be the kind of daughter who would like sit there, waiting for her to do it."

Joy slowed down, the hair got full of static when Joy brushed it. She had to stop to fetch out a soft nylon baby brush which was her favorite brush from her bag, and restarted to comb the hair and made it into a pony.

"Why East?" Joy changed the subject, to assuage Sunshine’s grief.

"I guess the grains were celebrated to worship the five Deities. Besides we are close to East."

"How would you think of that? My first thought is that some birds may have them as their food."

"To tell you the truth, I asked Master Lin for the clue, guess what?  He showed me the word ritual." She quoted the word with her fingers.

"It was not hard to guess it is related to the mythical creatures. They are Deities of the forest."

"I see."

Baby was leading the way ahead of them; Joy noticed that Baby was so quiet since they met Sunshine and Happy. She moved faster than usual to catch up.

"Baby, are you ok?"

"What is your deal?"Baby flied up to her head.

"You are so quiet. I thought something went wrong."

"I am just wondering if Happy is single? She is so cute. "

Joy was laughing so hard until she needs to gasp for breath. She walked with Sunshine side by side and told her what Baby was worrying.

"Is it allowed a dog and a cat to mate in the forest?"

"Only if our king gives us his blessing, but it is impossible for the king to approve."

"I read it in the books that creatures are allowed to mix with each other at the beginning in the ancient times."

"What happened?" Joy was interrupting.

"The hybrids’ are completely out of control because of their lust for blood and killing are unappeasable. At last each leader of their packs has to sacrifice them to ensure the survival of the others. Since then they were forbidden to copulate with different spices, much less having children. "

"Hypothetically a vampire and a werewolf were falling in love, and they were born with a child, what would it be like?"

"Actually it is a great analogy."

The Time went by quickly during their pleasant talks; they were marching ahead with cheerful laughter until they were facing the miasma woods which were full of endless poisonous miasma. Unlike the forest they were standing right now, the odor of pines and camphor-trees pervades in the air.

Baby stopped and turned around.

"The miasma is not harmful for us, but for you humans, it is deadly."

From a distance, Joy was observing inside at the entrance of the woods covered with black thick fog; she could not see through it so she came up with one word-depressing. There were several vegetation growing well near the miasma woods, she pulled them up and put a piece of leaf into her mouth. It was known that an antidote must be near the poison according to the concept of mutual generation and restriction.

"Do you want one? It will help." She handled the vegetation to dare Sunshine.

"You know herbs very well." Sunshine took over it and put one piece into her mouth too.

Joy did not response to sunshine’s comments; she was pulling out a mask from her bag and wearing it. While she was going to ask if Sunshine want one, only to find out that Sunshine was already wearing a mask.

"Be careful." They were holding hands and stepped into the woods carefully.

Although covering their mouths and noses can stop some of the miasma, it was not a long term solution. They must get out of the miasma woods as soon as possible, otherwise the longer they stay, the more dangerous it would be. Penetrating the smoke would not be easy, which made them unable to see clearly. Baby was showing the way as Joy was holding sunshine’s hand tightly in case they were separated. When they were far into the woods, they heard the sound of ghost crying and wolf howling, which was extremely terrifying.

"Keep walking, it was all a ploy to distract attention."

Finally they reached out the side of the woods; Joy started to run like a child as if seeing the most exciting landscape. There was a huge stone blocking the road, Baby stopped in front of the stone.

"We are here."

Joy approached to the stone close enough to see that it was carved with a significant totem of an image of the Azure Dragon. She was staring at Baby with questionable looks while Sunshine was coming up.

"As long as there is a totem, we can go directly to the mansion by using power."

"That is so cool, how do we do?"

Sunshine put her bag with Happy inside on top of the stone. She was whispering about something to Happy, and then she began to practice her power, one moment later, an entrance revealed inside between the stone, she went straight through the entrance with Happy, disappeared; Joy followed her footstep, carrying Baby in her arms.

At that instant it was plunged into total darkness, Joy heard a snap and suddenly the place was lit up. There were no splendor palaces or huge pyramid temples, not even a tall building. What they can see was another green forest. There was a very old wooden door with a simple sign, which read "Welcome to the Array Labyrinth".

Suddenly she heard the cry of Baby, he must have bumped into the wooden sign and was lying on the ground curled up into a ball. She ran over to his side to check up on him only to discover a map displaying in the sky where Baby was hitting.

The array labyrinth is a tour puzzle made of wall-trees in the form of a complex branching passage through which the participants must find the right route. It is divided into several small mazes by tree walls of different heights. The map showed that the labyrinth was circular; consisting of complex, changeable plants and movable partition walls. In fact, the linear distance from the entrance to the center point was about ten meters. Nevertheless, the maze was usually simple to enter but difficult to exit. A careless move may well trigger a wrong step caused walking into a dead end. But if you get hang of the access into and out, there was always light at the end of the tunnel. It seemed to be a fascinating sort of play. Both of them were gazing at the map while Baby and Happy were lying together near the wooden door. Joy fantasized that Sunshine's brain must be working like a supercomputer, so she dared not to disturb her. While she was letting her imagination

It was a lovely spring morning, there was a chilly drizzle of rain, the sky appeared a heavy shade of mottled gray, the sparrows chirp and chorus, and the air was muggy and oppressive. Joy was waking up in her soft single-bed; she turned off the alarm and sprang out bed. As she walked through the hall, she saw her father was making breakfast for her in the kitchen. She was suddenly awakening from her sweet dream with a start when Baby was playing with her right feet with his hind paw. It took her a few minutes to recover consciousness. She saw Sunshine was lying near her feet with Happy in her arms. She sneaked up so that she wouldn’t wake up Sunshine. It was a medial size cave, the scenery was so fantastic that Joy felt she was in an Alice-in-Wonderland world. Outside the cave month the blackness of night was like a curtain, but inside the cave was bright as daylight, the light was coming from everywhere or nowhere. A sound of water dropping broke in, she tried to spot where the wa

"It is a game played by four people; all four have to be standing on the huge disc at the same time. The disc pivoted in the middle so that, as one side goes up, the opposite side goes down. If one person accidentally falls down, the rest will follow down automatically, unless you are at the same page again. While you are dancing on the disc, please spot the difference. Each of your guides is different but which part? It is your job to find the odd one out. If you have the wrong answer, you will be severely punished. Please note that their position will change from time to time. A fair Warning: you cannot practice your power when you are playing."Sunshine finished reading through it, and then Benson pulled himself slowly to his feet while a huge stone plate was coming out of nowhere above the grassland in the middle of the cave. It was slowly rising up and stopped until it reached about one meter high. The disc was about two meters in diameter with a frame’s columns, h

"Come and find me, kid, I'm waiting for you..." Joy and Baby heard the sound, it appeared to come from somewhere beyond the distant stars, and brought the chill of the interstellar spaces with it. The intermittent echo reminded you of the wake-up of your midnight dream, and then it gradually went away until it completely disappeared, leaving only the aftertaste. "Baby, have you heard it? Can you tell whose voice it is?” "I can't tell. I only know it's from a very old cat." "Do you feel funny?" Joy and Baby were floating inside a boat on the middle of the lake what Joy visualized as a gigantic transparent bubble, which is like an independent sealed cabin, allowing them to breathe freely in it. There was another bubble-boat nearby with a good-looking guy inside who was watching her in wonder on the boundless lake. Just for a moment, her dark eyes caught his while a feeling of shame came over her. She glanced shyly at him out of the corners of her eyes. "Hello!" he was smiling and w

Sunshine had woken from the dream with a start, and found herself suspended in mid-air. Fear gripped her, turning her bowels to ice; but she did not panic nor cried out for help. She tried to move forward until she realized that she was in the condition of weightlessness. "Happy, are you there?" sunshine shouted. "I felt like I am in another world, amid convulsions, as if my soul had left my body." To her surprise she didn’t feel too weak, light-headed certainly, and with a sense of unreality, but was able to move freedom. "Calm down. I am here." Happy’s voice ran behind her. "I have heard the elders mentioned this place before, it's really incredible that a plce like this could exist." It took her a while to get used to the "zero-gravity" state; she took a deep breath to calm herself down, gave it a little thought and drifted slowly with great effort. "Where are Joy and Baby?" "They are not here, we are alone." It was cool and

The charm of life was gone, there was nothing but dreariness and endless darkness left.Joy and Sunshine were jumping into seeming nothingness, rarely mentioned for more than several centuries. The thought of vanishing completely from the world, of being engulfed in ineradicable darkness, would seize upon them and crush with it the very existence of the world. Joy and Sunshine were still holding hands tightly with fear."Hello, Joy, Sunshine."Something about the voice was vaguely charming, soft and cajoling, accompanied by a faint light crossed the darkened space. They saw a lady’s shadow walking towards them in the darkness, she moved with feline grace. Wearing a light blue long sleeved dress with belt at the waist which was fitted to give her a flattering silhouette, standing barefoot in the air and her long hair fell to her waist."Who are you? Joy felt that Baby’s effusive welcome was not sincere, and suddenly her attention was drawn by a black cat squatting next to him. On the other side, Happy ran towards Sunshine with hearty welcome by circling around her foot jumping and dancing. "Baby, why don’t you introduce your friend to us?" "This is Mr. Black, the King of cats." "Nice to meet you, Your Majesty." Joy smiled and bowed obsequiously to Mr. Black. Hearing the words, Sunshine whirled around and surveyed what miracle had happened to Joy. "Where is Wu Xi? she was supposed to be here with you." The nine-storey pagoda represented the nine tribes in the Habitat, each corresponding to a particular grade, such as the first-storey was designed to be used for grade 1 students. Until you became a grade 2 student, you could not go to the second storey, but the higher grade students could come downstairs. Wu Xi was situated on the top storey and Mr. black was the only creature who could live in the Nine-Tower."Mr. Black, that was quick, did you get the message from Baby?" Joy was surprised and squatted down unconsciously."I do not see Baby; I come for anything else. You need to tell me everything during your last meeting with Wu Xi, every little thing counts." Mr. Black was as sharp as ever."So the principal was missing, you can’t reach her, right?" Joy said, it was significantly louder this time. She was grateful that the place was empty."She is in a safe place, but she was off. So I need to know what had happened to her.""Sunshine, Mr. Black has found the principal, but he wan

Dylan's questions put the girls on the defensive, Joy traded meaningful gazes with Sunshine, a game started between them, both comic and dramatic. Several boys were finishing eating and they tried to place all the dishes in the same way as they were at the start of the meal, they wolf-whistled at Sunshine while passing by. Joy studied Dylan's face and kept telling herself that it was a good opportunity to know more about the matter, she pretended to be calm and asked."Dylan, we like hanging out, observing the whole campus.""What do you know?" Sunshine interrupted."Ladies, I asked you first.""Let's make a deal, we can share a great deal of information on a quid pro quo basis.""Deal."They finished their dinner in a short time and then went back to their dorm, on their way back Sunshine and Dylan were watching the road ahead of them and Joy and Benson were in the back started goofing off and roughhousing like they were small. To her surprise the door was unlocked, it was a communal dorm with many beds, closets, tables and bookshelves. Her bed was lying among dozens of other beds that it looked exactly the same as the one at home, Joy walked straight towards it. There was a note flying to her before Joy could complain about the overcrowding, words in bold-red-larger font letters stick out among other normal black fonts as Dormitory Regulations. "If you would like some personal space, please mark your blood at your territory. With the spell it will present a barrier that defend your place against any intruders. Nobody could go inside without your permission." "Sunshine, have you seen it? It will be like a compartment where you could relax in your private suites." Sunshine's bed was near hers, Joy flung off her bag and collapsed on her bed, Sunshine was standing at her bedside, the frown on her face told Joy that the situation would be especially difficult for her and that she might have words to tell. When they had landed down on the ground in front of the tower without any disturbance, they waved goodbye and thanked the Kunpeng for the lift. The Tower was a few yards from them but it felt the distance was very far away. There was a significant array stood in the way, which was concealed deep in the shadow so it couldn't be seen from above. Baby beat the rest of them, jumped straight into it and followed by Happy and Sky."Baby, what are you doing?" Joy yelled."To do his job, the array which we call "the Ever-Changing Array". It's a simple performing which is like a mirage, depends on your wise and benevolence, the views on this array vary from person to person. But it doesn’t work on animals, so he is still your guide." Suddenly the sky was changing because the sun was beginning to fall behind hills, sending deep gold-colored rays slanting under the trees. The elderly were gravitating in the market, shuffling in cheerful pairs along the streets or jogging in slow motion past the shops, all quickened their pace in panic. Joy was attracted by a bunch of herbs; she was chatting with a vendor who was trading herbs. "For every disease, there are some herbs to cure it. This cinnamon-like medicinal herb is hard to come by, it can wrench people back from the fog of unconsciousness." The keeper said. "It’s getting dark, the market will be closed soon, we need to go out now." Hayden strode towards her. Hearing that, Joy rose to say goodbye while the keeper secretly put the herb into her packsack without anyone else noticing. Sunshine bustled through the street to meet Joy. In following hours, Joy and Sunshine were going to tour the streets and also stroll the open-air market. The streets were crowded with old people and the shops were full of wonderful magic things. One of Joy’s favorite pastimes was going to fairs and markets, but it was Sunshine’s first time visiting the market. It was much different from the markets Joy had been to in the human world as the facts that the basic needs of life were available with minimum effort for Shamans. There was a proliferation of stores, where are trading Dan medicines, traditional herbal medicines, swords, books, charms and spells and so on. When people met on the streets, they would come to a halt and talk or go to the teahouse to have some tea. In the roadside teashops, men sat on low stools and talked over sweet tea. Sunshine and Joy stopped at a teahouse with the traditional wood carvings, artwork, lighting and flooring. "Do you want some tea?" "Sure, Tea houses are a carrier of peo
