Chapter 419

Author: Old Pumpkin
Edward took a deep breath and said, “We’ve been caught. What else can we do? Let’s just go in.”

Together, they turned around and entered the mansion.

When they arrived, they were confident they could finally take revenge on Ethan. They were sure they would have a chance to humiliate him this time, but now, neither of them could manage a smile.

They stiffly went up to Ethan and sat opposite him at the table, feeling uneasy as they adjusted their postures.

Ethan pushed some bread over to them. “Care for a bite?”

Edward did not touch the bread. “Is this going to be our last meal?”

Ethan chuckled. “It’s your honor to have me serve you your last meal.”

The two of them were silenced knowing it might really be their last meal on earth!

Ethan saw the looks on their faces and knew exactly what they were thinking.

“Don’t overthink it. I’m no longer in charge of Riveria. Now, I’m just a convict locked up in Drakthorn Ridge.”

Edward’s and Tyler’s heads shot up in disbelief.

“No. You guys are wasting your time trying to pull me into this. I could do what you’re asking on my own. Working with you will only result in a loss to me,” Ethan said. Edward was rendered speechless. Ethan’s words stung him. He had always considered himself a man with vision, someone strategic and wise, but there was Ethan, dismissing him so easily. Worse yet, he could not argue back because he knew Ethan was far more capable than himself. “Rather than wasting time on me, why don’t you figure out a way to deal with the South Regent? He has strengthened his foundation in two cities already.” Edward heaved a long sigh. “Sigh. You’re stirring the pot again.” He believed Ethan was subtly hinting at him to deal with the South Regent. However, if they did, both sides would only end up in a bitter struggle with no winners. Edward sighed because he knew he could not do anything to change the situation. They and the South Regent were destined to be enemies, unlikely to be allies,

Tyler said, “With our family’s wealth, we must start from Hill City to make a comeback.” Edward answered, “I know. I’ve been thinking about how we can get more benefits from Hill City.” He then texted Nolan, asking for a list of recent happenings in the city. When they returned to Breeze City, they got an update from Nolan, and Edward went through everything Stephen had done recently. “Subsidies were distributed in layers. By the time they reached the villagers, there wasn’t much left. We might be able to use this to our advantage. “He also subcontracted the mining rights of the quarry to the South Regent. We can’t let him get away with this too easily.” “Then, there’s the fundraiser. There’s a lot of room for us to work with.” In just a few minutes, Edward came up with a plan. “We’ll start with the South Regent first.”He planned to sabotage the quarry as it would not only hurt the South Regent’s profits but also create enough distraction for Edward to move in and imp

With a life lost, the situation had become far more complicated and serious. To make matters worse, most of the workers at the quarry were unhappy with their wages. Nolan seized the chance to tell Stephen that he should take back the mining rights if the South Regent’s company could not settle the problem and compensate the injured and deceased workers.Stephen agreed and immediately went to the quarry manager to deliver the message. The manager was displeased by the decision. The miners who survived wanted around 300 thousand dollars in compensation, and the family of the deceased demanded at least 800 thousand dollars. It was not that the company could not offer it, but it was not worth it. “I’ll have to check with my boss.” The manager then contacted the South Regent to get further instructions. The South Regent was made aware of the incident, and after a quick consideration, he said, “Pay them. Let’s keep things quiet for now. After that, launch an investigation to find ou

Stephen was at a loss for words. No matter what, he was the one who hurt Andy. It was his fault Andy was hunted beyond the borders and forced to witness the death of someone who had once saved his life. Stephen sighed helplessly. “How much?” “At least 20 million.” Stephen then thought of the 120 million in funds that he had just received. “Fine, but what are you going to do with the money?” “I want to change people’s lives for the better,” Andy said without a second thought, his tone firm. Stephen handed over 20 million, which left him with just 100 million. He believed it was enough if he could spend it wisely. After getting the money, Andy turned to leave. Stephen called out, “You’re leaving already? Do you want to have lunch?” “No. There’s nothing left for us to talk about,” Andy said without turning back. His words cut through Stephen like a knife, leaving him feeling as though his heart had been shredded to pieces. He never would have thought that the friend he g

In the end, Stephen had no choice but to hand all 70 million in donations to Nolan, trusting him to fix the places affected by the forest fire. Nolan smiled. “Don’t worry. I will do my best.” Now, he received a total of 120 million from Stephen through multiple parties. The Spencers were in desperate need of money, so there was no way he would spend all the money on helping people. He distributed 50 million worth of compensation and let his men pocket 20 million from it. Then, he took 70 million to help the places affected by the forest fire and skimmed another 30 million for his people. He then sent his men overseas to launder the money through the Spencers’ shady network, successfully transferring all the money to the family. After the transaction was complete, the men were taken out by the Spencers to ensure that they would never be seen again. With that, Nolan distanced himself completely from whatever shady transactions that happened. Even if something went wrong, no one

Nolan reacted immediately. With one swift motion, he flipped the table at the masked men and grabbed Stephen before jumping through the window. Luckily, they were on the second floor, which was not that high of a jump. Nolan had been through enough tough scrapes in the past—most of them thanks to Ethan—to know how to handle a jump like that, so he landed on his feet without a hitch. Stephen, on the other hand, was not so unlucky. When he hit the ground, he lost his balance and crashed down hard, tumbling over twice before coming to a stop. He was covered in dirt, and his arms and leg throbbed in pain, but he had no time to check his injuries. Nolan pulled him up. “Come on!” The two of them ran towards the crowd. By the time the hitmen got to the window, they were already shuttling among the crowd. “They’re quick.” The hitmen did not shoot due to the distance and the overwhelming crowd on the street. They were not confident enough to take the shot. More importantly, they wer

The fire in the underground parking attracted all the security, and many staff ran to watch the scene. At that moment, a few low-profiled hitmen dressed in ordinary clothes walked into the company. Ten minutes later, a blood-curdling scream rang out before the company’s CEO fell from the sky and smashed into the ground, dead on impact. The incident alarmed Nolan. He immediately ordered his men to investigate it, and the results came back quickly. It was those few hitmen who had failed to kill him! They purposely set a fire in the underground parking, using the opportunity where everyone’s attention was diverted to go upstairs and throw the CEO off the rooftop. When Stephen heard about that, his face darkened. How dare those people bear guns and murder in broad daylight and in such a brutal manner!“We must catch them!”Hill City was locked down. Every car leaving the city was thoroughly inspected to ensure the hitmen would not escape. Then, the authorities issued a high bounty

They shut down the South Regent’s business, and now the South Regent was willing to sacrifice a subordinate to drag the Spencers’ business down with them. The hitman was taken away, and he provided more incriminating information about the Spencers’ business. He even mentioned that Ethan had punished the Spencers in the past. Nolan realized things were getting out of hand, so he quickly called his father, Edward. Edward merely said, “Kill him.”What happened three years ago was a dark part of their history that must never be exposed, and Stephen could never know about it. As such, Nolan managed to get his hands on some poison and used it to kill the hitman. Stephen had wanted to interrogate the hitman further, but he soon heard about the hitman’s death. “How did he die? Poison? How could he be poisoned here?”The hitman revealed a lot of startling information, but Stephen had not verified it yet. Now, the sudden poisoning left him confused and in doubt. Was the information

“You deal the last card.”When Avery handed over the tea, Ethan grabbed her hand and used it to deal the fifth card.Everyone froze.Ethan glanced at the cards on the table and revealed his hand, saying, “Royal straight flush. I win this round.”“Damn!” Victor stood up, his eyes wide in disbelief. To the side, the South Regent and Jason were also dumbfounded, staring in shock. “Is this for real?”Snow snapped back to reality first and said in astonishment, “Avery, you really bring luck to your husband.”Avery was lucky, so her opening the final card increased the chances of drawing a good card, helping Ethan achieve a stunning comeback. Her face instantly turned red at Snow’s words.“Who would’ve thought this would happen?”Victor could not believe that he lost. At that moment, he became even more aware of the gap between Ethan and himself, or rather, the gap between everyone and Ethan.“There are many things you never thought of, but for now, pay up,” Ethan said casually.V

First, the people who had illegally crossed the border fled overnight, and the local forces quickly disappeared. Breeze City finally regained stability. The change was so rapid that many people online said it felt like a dream as if they had woken up and everything had changed.Afterward, Breeze City began to develop its agriculture. With its favorable climate and fertile land, the grain output was high, and people started to escape poverty and move toward wealth.“What exactly happened back then?“Do you think Stephen could have really accomplished this?”“No way!”At first, many people believed that Stephen was falsely accused. However, after uncovering the changes that had happened in Breeze City over the past seven years, even those who supported him began to have doubts.Breeze City used to be far more chaotic and unstable. If Stephen had been able to manage it well back then, there was no reason he should not be able to manage it now.Besides, was Stephen able to manage a

It was the Hugheses. They would unblock any accounts the Quinns wanted to block. The two families were just as influential, so using tactics such as blocking accounts, deleting posts, and paid posters to divert the attention would not work anymore! The staff quickly informed Simon, who woke up immediately after hearing the news. Still groggy, he quickly washed up and checked his phone. The entire Internet was discussing the matter, and the topic was trending. With the recent revelations at the event, Stephen had quickly become the center of public scrutiny online. After reading through the statement from Daniel and Caleb, Simon clenched his fists. He regretted inviting Leo. He had meticulously prepared for the event, aiming to boost his success and improve Breeze City’s economy. However, Leo took the opportunity to expose the truth instead. The better Simon prepared, the higher the buzz, and the more explosive the truth Leo exposed became. It was as if all of his efforts were t

Returning to his senses, Victor murmured, “By now, the mental pressure on them should be enough. We can act tomorrow.”Earlier, the South Regent had contacted Simon and told him their plan to apply enough pressure on Simon and Stephen. That would force the father and son to seek George for help, and that was when Victor would swoop in and win George over. Now, the pressure had done its job. George had decided to betray the Quinns, but Simon still had no idea about it and was probably still relaxing, thinking the worst was over. Thus, tomorrow was the perfect timing to kickstart their plan! They were not even afraid of Simon coming up with a solution despite telling him their plan in advance. Ethan had seen through them. Seeking George was a dead end, running was a dead end, and even destroying Breeze City was a dead end. The next day, Daniel and Caleb were the first to call in the media to make a public statement. “Hi, we are Daniel and Caleb. I trust you are all familiar with

At that moment, Ethan’s statement rendered everyone speechless. They were all shocked. With the plan, they would be killing two birds with one stone. George and the Quinns would be in a miserable situation while they would remain completely uninvolved. “Perfect! It’s perfect!” Even Victor could not help but marvel. “It’s so perfect that it fills me with despair. I couldn’t think of any way to solve this situation.”Without George, Stephen would fail to answer all the questions about what happened in Riveria over the past few years. However, if they used George, he would betray the Quinns and sabotage them from within, making it impossible for Stephen to answer the questions correctly. It was a deadlock! The South Regent gulped. “It is a ruthless plan. They’ll have no way to get past this. It’s a good thing I ran fast back then.”He thought the plan was devised to drive Stephen to his death. Tyler, Nolan, Daniel, and Caleb all nodded blankly. At that moment, they understood h

He could not let that happen. George was extremely useful at that moment. If George really were to return to prison, Stephen would be in trouble. “No.” Liam shook his head and glanced at George. “You’ve proved yourself recently, so you’re free to move around for the next month.”George’s eyes widened in shock. Did such luck befall him? He had never heard of such a thing before, but he soon realized he did not get a month of freedom because he had proven himself. It was the man who called him yesterday proving himself! Even with Simon’s status and position, the man could only grant him a month of freedom, and now, Liam had come with orders to grant him another month again. It only meant one thing—the man held as much status as the Quinns! If someone with as much status as the Quinns wanted to help him, he might have the chance to break free from the Quinns. At that thought, George could not contain his excitement. Simon, on the other hand, was still unaware of what had happene

George was stunned. He could not believe his ears. Freeing him from the Quinn family’s control? Did he really want to leave the Quinn family? If it were two days ago, he would never have entertained the thought, but now, the situation had changed. He was sent to prison because of Stephen, yet Stephen could not even be bothered to pay him a visit as they entered a new year. When Stephen finally came to see him, it was because he needed George’s help to solve his problems. Stephen showed no gratitude or respect whatsoever. As for Simon, that man once criticized Rachel right in front of him, showing no regard for him. Although he wanted to leverage the Quinn family’s influence, helping them by framing Ethan and letting them gain total control of Riveria greatly benefited them. After all he had sacrificed, could he not get a shred of respect from Simon for his daughter? George took a deep breath and suppressed the temptation. “I don’t know who you are. How can I trust you?”He genu

If he had not falsely accused Ethan, the Lowes would not be in its current state, and his daughter would not have to endure such lectures.George deeply regretted his actions. If he could turn back time and fix them, he would. Meanwhile, Stephen went upstairs to check on Rachel's room while she was washing up. After carefully checking and confirming that no man had been there, he sighed in relief. Although he did not love Rachel, she was still his rightful wife. He could not tolerate the idea that she did not care about him.A few minutes later, Rachel walked out."Come to the meeting," Simon said.He then explained the situation to George and Rachel.Rachel had never been interested in such matters and did not care much about it. Besides, she had no feelings for Stephen either, so she remained indifferent. On the other hand, George frowned. Sometimes, he admired and envied Stephen. Trouble always followed Stephen wherever he went, and each time, it was anything but simple.W

Stephen frowned. "What's going on?"Meanwhile, Rachel was woken up by the phone call. When she glanced at the screen and saw Stephen's name, she had no intention of answering. She simply put the phone on silent and pretended she had not seen it before going back to sleep.Only George and she had dinner together last night, and she was up late worrying about the future. In the airport, Simon asked, "What's wrong?"Confused, Stephen replied, "She didn't pick up. She's probably still asleep."Simon fell silent. He knew the problems between Stephen and Rachel could not be ignored. He rubbed his temples. He could not understand why relationship issues like that had to happen in the Quinn family, and they were happening to his son, the future head of the family!"Forget it," said Simon. "I'll have my assistant pick us up. We'll go straight to the prison.""Okay," Stephen replied. After landing, Simon and Stephen took a car to the prison and soon met George."What brings you here?"
