Chapter 3

Ethan did not bother looking at them again and pulled out his phone instead. “Whether you call him or not makes no difference to me, but… whether I’m the one who calls him or you would make a significant difference for you.”

The two officers gasped in shock. Just the comment he made carried more weight than the chef chewing them out for three hours straight!

Seeing that Ethan was about to dial the chief’s number, they shouted in unison, “We’ll call him right away!”

They then turned and bolted to find the chief, not daring to waste any time.

A minute later, the police chief, Liam Yates, came rushing over. He felt a chill run down his spine when he saw Ethan sitting in the lobby.

“Why is he here? He’s usually holed up in that villa. The last time he went out, he went to Crestwood alone and came out unharmed a few hours later. The entire town saw him off! Since then, Crestwood has been quiet and engaging in legitimate business!”

The people in Crestwood were notorious for being tough. Even the kids there, as young as seven or eight, knew how to build firearms. They were hostile toward all outsiders, keeping a close watch on those we entered.

At least seven or eight undercover agents had disappeared in there, yet Ethan walked in alone. Not only did he leave unscathed, but the town’s mayor even saw him off with the townspeople. The most astonishing part was that Ethan managed to rescue three undercover agents who had been captured and tortured.

The governor was left dumbfounded, unable to comprehend how Ethan managed it. It could only be described as divine intervention!

Upon recalling those events, Liam walked over to Ethan and asked respectfully, “What brings you here?”

The surrounding personnel were all stunned. Liam was in his forties and held a high-ranking position, yet he treated Ethan, who was just in his twenties, with such respect!

The two officers who had called for him suddenly felt as if the world was turned upside down, but they were wildly relieved that they had gone to get the chief. If Ethan had made the call instead, they would have been finished!

Ethan replied calmly, “Someone has reported me for embezzlement and bribery, so I’ve been brought in.”

“What?” Liam almost jumped. “You were accused of embezzlement and bribery? How could that be? Over the past three years, you’ve built schools, funded road constructions, and even reduced medical costs…”

He could not believe Ethan was engaged in embezzlement or bribery. As far as he knew, Ethan’s character was beyond reproach.

He was not the only one who admired Ethan. Even the residents of Crestwood held him in high regard, and the mayor there spoke to him with the utmost respect.

The two officers stood there, speechless.

“He’s that impressive? Built schools so everyone could get an education, funded road constructions so people could travel and trade, and reduced medical costs so everyone could afford healthcare… T-That’s…

“All of these are tremendous contributions on their own, but he did that all alone? Holy crap. Did we arrest the wrong guy?”

They started to question everything they knew. Why would such an amazing person need to embezzle or accept bribes?

The officers paled and broke out in cold sweat.

“Let’s not discuss that any further. It’s all in the past.” Ethan interrupted Liam. “I didn’t call you here to hear you say these things. I just wanted to let you know that I’m going to Sky Peak.”

“Sky Peak?”

Liam was stunned. Sky Peak was Riveria’s tallest and most famous mountain, known for its towering peak and year-round snow.
